Marlene s domination of the Discus and Shotput in girls track helped Woodbridge to a resurgence during the early 1980s. Marlene s strength was a major contribution in Woodbridge s Indoor track season. In the Commonwealth District Championship meet, Marlene helped Woodbridge earn a third place Commonwealth District finish and later that winter she aided Woodbridge to a Northwest Regional Championship in 1983 under the guidance of head coach Ron Helmer and throwing coach Gene Harris. That season, Marlene set a school record in the indoor shot-put with a distance of over thirty-two feet. In Marlene s athletic career at Woodbridge she helped the Vikings to their very first ever Girl s Indoor District title, in 1984, and Regional title, in In Girl s Outdoor Track Marlene helped pace Woodbridge in winning two District titles and two Regional titles including the first-ever girls outdoor district title in 1984 and Regional title, also in In Marlene s junior season, she moved into second place all-time in Woodbridge girl s outdoor shot-put with a throw of 35 feet, 9 inches. That throw still ranks in the Woodbridge all-time top five throws over thirty years later. During the Indoor season in , Marlene established a school indoor record for the shot-put of 35 feet, 5 inches, which would not be topped for twenty years. Marlene still holds second all-time record in the girls indoor shot-put thirty years later. It was in the discus where Marlene really excelled. During her senior year in 1984 Marlene threw for 109 feet, 6 inches in the Commonwealth District track meet establishing a new Viking record. A week later, she topped that with another school record of 113 feet, 11 inches in the Northwest Region Tack meet which sent her and Woodbridge off to the Virginia State meet. Her discus toss in the Northwest Region meet of over 113 feet held as the school record for twenty-two years and like the girls record for the indoor shot-put, Marlene s discus toss still maintains second place all-time in Viking history.

After finishing up his eligibility Daryk served as an assistant coach for the University Tennessee Chattanooga, for the season. He currently enters his 14th season as a Head Wrestling Coach, his 9th at Alexander High School. He has compiled 196 dual victories, coached 95 State Qualifiers, 32 State Placers, 11 State Champions and 21 USA / NHSCA / Wrestling USA Magazine All-Americans. Daryk Cochran has also been selected the 2010, 2012, & 2013 Co-Head Coach of the Year and has served as GA National Team Coach since Karen Oliver was a talented gymnast during the early years of the gymnastics program at Woodbridge. Karen was a pleasant surprise for the Woodbridge Gymnastics team while she was a freshman during the season. Over the next three years, Karen helped Woodbridge become a serious contender in gymnastics in the region. While a sophomore, Karen s progress led to success at the Commonwealth District meet by earning a 1st place in the Beam and a 3rd place in the Floor Exercise allowing her to advance to the Northwest Regionals. Woodbridge had a very successful year by finishing second in Prince William County and Districts to archrival Gar-Field. By the time Karen was a junior she was often taking first place in vault in area meets. At season s end she earned a 2nd place in the Vault at districts and later 4th Place in the Vault in regionals qualifying her for the Virginia State Gymnastic meet. During her senior season, Karen continued to excel in the Vault. Early in the season, Karen earned a first place in the Vault scoring a high of 13.85, a combination of 6.90 in the Compulsory and a 6.95 in the Optional competitions easily outdistancing the second and third place gymnast from Stafford. Later that season she placed fourth at regionals in the Vault, again qualifying her for States. Karen s gymnastic skills allowed her to become one of Woodbridge s top cheerleaders for the Vikings. She was a 4-year letter winner in Cheerleading and Gymnastics. After graduating from Woodbridge, her combination of gymnastics and cheerleading skills eventually landed her at the University of Tennessee where she competed in Gymnastics. While at Tennessee Karen earned 2nd place in the Vault at the Tennessee College Women s Sports Federation, and later 3rd Place on the Beam in the Tennessee State Championships. After graduating with honors at Tennessee, Karen returned to teach and she became the assistant coach for Gymnastics (under head coach Sue Bona) and Track. The following year she became the head gymnastics coach at Stonewall Jackson High School where she eventually won five district, three regional, and the Virginia state championship in 2005.

4 Meshailay (Robinson) Thomas Track Michael Mike Schooff Baseball Meshailay Robinson was one of the fastest female track sprinters ever at Woodbridge. Between 1990 and 1994 she used her speed to help compete for Commonwealth District championships, and during Meshailay s senior campaign she helped the Vikings earn a Commonwealth District championship in outdoor track. Along the way, she made the all-district team, all-state team, all-met honorable mention and first team all-area teams. She earned several district and regional titles in various events and placed 6th in the Virginia State meet in the 55 meter dash. During her Senior Year, she made All- Met Honorable Mention Indoor Track as a Sprinter and then also made All-Met Honorable Mention in Outdoor as a senior. She currently ranks 3rd All-Time as WSHS Outdoor in the 100 meter, 5th All-Time in the 200 meter, and she ranks 3rd All-Time in the Indoor 55 meter dash. After graduating from Woodbridge in 1994, she attended Christopher Newport University where she became a nine-time Mason-Dixon Conference Champion, eight-time NCAA All-American and a three time NCAA National Champion. Meshailay earned a NCAA title twice in the 55-meter dash while setting various stadium records and once in the 4X100 meter dash, in which the team set a new NCAA record that year. While at Christopher Newport, she won the NCAA Division III Title in the 55 meter Indoor National Championship as a sophomore in 1997 and as a junior in During the Outdoor Season she qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships in the 200 meter and 4X100 relay her sophomore and junior seasons and the 4X100 m team won the National Championship in NCAA Div. III when she was a junior. An infection her senior year limited her athletically. In 2005 she was inducted into Christopher Newport University Athletic Hall of Fame. After graduating she began coaching at Rippon Middle school where several of her athletes earned regional titles and Woodbridge Senior high as a sprint coach taking her boys 4X100 meter dash team to the state meet. She now teaches and is the head coach for Freedom Senior High track team. Michael Mike Schooff was one of the gifted athletes who arrived at Woodbridge as a sophomore when the doors opened at the school in the fall of Mike batted and threw left-handed, which for that era was a rarity. He aided the Vikings under head coach Frank Parker to five wins in their inaugural season during the spring of As a junior Mike began to show off his power, both at the plate and on the mound, as he helped lead Woodbridge, under new head coach Paul Stafford, to eight wins and the program s first winning season and the programs first County Championship. As a senior Mike just dominated. At the plate, he continually rallied the team with key hits throughout the season while averaging a team high.346 batting average. However, it was on the pitching mound where Mike was most feared. Mike became the top pitching star at Woodbridge and in all of Prince William County capping his senior year with a 7-0 record while giving up only 1 earned run in 55 innings of pitching. Mike won seven of the nine games that Woodbridge won and six of the seven Battlefield District games as they finished overall with a 9-5 record. Mike was dominating with both his fastball and changeup while averaging 13 strikeouts per game. Mike s sensational career at Woodbridge, and especially his dominate senior season, caught the eye of major league baseball scouts. Mike was drafted as the sixth round (104th overall) pick by the Washington Senators in the 1967 spring amateur draft in June 1967 making him the first baseball player from Prince William County Schools to be drafted. In 1968 Mike pitched in the Single A Geneva Senators in the New York Pennsylvania League before moving south to the Salisbury Senators in North Carolina where he pitched in the Western Carolinas League. During the following year, Mike pitched for the Wytheville (VA) Senators in the Appalachian League and later pitched for the Shelby (NC) Senators, back in the Western Carolinas League. The stress of pitching at that level ended Mike s professional career after two years. Mike continued to follow and support baseball throughout his life.

5 Worthington Winky White Football, Wrestling, Track De Antwan Williams Football Worthington Winky White was a dominating athlete in the middle years of the 1970s decade at Woodbridge. Probably, best known for being a key contributor of the Woodbridge football team, White was part of the turn-around for the football program under head coach Ravis Red Stickney, between 1973 and During 1973 the team went 6-4 under first-year head coach Stickney. In 1974 the team went 12-1, winning the Commonwealth District Championship and earned it first football Northwest Regional Championship. Woodbridge suffered its only loss in the AAA State Championship game to Bethel. White was a key contributor on that state championship contending team, which is recognized as the best football team in the 50 year annals at Woodbridge. As a lineman, White earned All-County and All-District football honors in both the fall of 1973 and Additional, as a senior in 1974, Winky made the All-Region, All-Met, and All-State football teams. In the winter months, White excelled at wrestling for Woodbridge. As a sophomore he helped lead the Vikings to a winning season for the first time in Woodbridge wrestling history and helped the Vikings to a 4th place Commonwealth District wrestling tournament placing. As a junior in the unlimited weight category White became the only Woodbridge district and regional winner. He advanced to the state tournament and later earned WSHS wrestler of the year trophy. As a senior, White went the furthest at that time for any Viking wrestler, again taking the district and regional championship, and advancing to the state semi-finals before and injury halted him. White became the first Viking wrestler to win two regional championships as he also earned the WSHS Wrestler of the Year award in the spring for the second time. In the spring, White could be found throwing weights around for the Woodbridge track and field team. Like in football and wrestling, White was a key performer for the track team in the shot-put and discus events. During his senior season, he became one of the state leaders in both shot and discus. When Winky graduated, he was second place all-time for the discus and forty year later, he still is in 4th place all-time in school history. De Antwan Williams was one of the greatest football players in the history of Woodbridge as a four-year starter and letter winner at running back for head coach Keith King. He exploded on the scene as a freshman rushing for over 1000 yards in helping to lead Woodbridge to an 8-3 record. At the end of the season, De Antwan was rewarded for his efforts in earning a First Team All-Cardinal District Running selection. The following year, De Antwan again rushed for over 1000 yards while leading Woodbridge to an 8-4 record while earning First Team All-Cardinal District, All-Northwest Region, and Honorable Mention All-Met. During his junior campaign De Antwan led Woodbridge to a 9-5 record while rushing for 2,247 yards and 28 touchdowns. He led Woodbridge to the Northwest Region title, and all the way to the state championship game. Against Heritage in the state playoffs, De Antwan rushed his way into the state playoff record books by carrying 35 times for 249 yards and scored five touchdowns, all top six performances all-time in carries, yards, and touchdowns. At the end of his junior year De Antwan earned All-District, All-Region, All-Met by the Washington Post, and All-State accolades. As a senior De Antwan rushed for 1,950 yards and scored 32 touchdowns in leading the Vikings to an unbeaten regular season and the Virginia AAA Cardinal District championship. De Antwan again earned 2008 All-Met selection by the Washington Post while also earning the Cardinal District Offensive Player of the Year, the Northwest Region Offensive Player of the Year, and First Team VHSCA All-State from his running back position. In his four year career at Woodbridge, De Antwan rushed for 6,909 career yards and 83 touchdowns, placing him sixth all-time in Virginia high school history and third alltime rusher in Class AAA in the state of Virginia. A top ten recruit, he played for Rutgers and later transferred to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he rushed for over 2,650 yards and scored 18 touchdowns in two seasons including a school record 315 yards in his final game.

6 Sue Bona-Bonacquisti Gymnastics/Track Coach Dave Gus Swaggard Wrestling Coach Sue Bona began teaching at Woodbridge Senior High School in September 1978 after graduating from Longwood University earlier that spring. It did not take Sue long to start coaching career as she began her coaching with the Track and Field program that year. It was in Gymnastics that Sue began a twenty-eight year coaching career spanning parts of four decades. New Head Coach Sue Bona led the Gymnastic team with top gymnast, junior Val Pennington who performed in the all-around category. During the school year, Sue coached Woodbridge to the school s first Commonwealth District Championship in Gymnastics. Woodbridge continued to dominate later that season as Woodbridge captured its first Northwest Regional Championship in gymnastics and then went on to perform admirably at the state competition. After strong performances and a steady run of successes during the rest of the 1980s, Sue s best run as gymnastics coach came in the late 1990s and the early 2000s. During the season, Woodbridge senior All-Around Champion Tish Decoud and freshman Rebecca Ruppert, performing in the vault, helped the Vikings to take home the Cardinal District Championship. The following year aided by Ruppert and a supporting cast of gymnast sophomore Jane Hester, juniors Lauren Andress and Krista Graham, helped Woodbridge as they again won the Cardinal District Championship, were runner-up in the Northwest Region, and finished in eighth place at the Virginia State Championships. In 2001 Woodbridge won their third straight Cardinal District Championship. In 2002, Coach Bona-Bonacquisti coached Rebecca Ruppert to the allaround championship at both the Cardinal District and Northwest Region, and later a third place medal at the Virginia State finals. Sue retired from coaching in 2006, but her 28-year reign as coach places her as the longest continuous head coaching run ever at Woodbridge which include four district championships and one regional title. After her coaching retirement, Sue stepped in as an important member on the WSHS Athletic Hall of Fame committee. Sue retired from teaching at Woodbridge this past spring Dave Gus Swaggard coached the Woodbridge Wrestling team for six years, , while also serving as a teacher at Woodbridge. Dave led Woodbridge s wrestling program to respectability among the Commonwealth District and Northwest Region in his six seasons as wrestling coach. During the season he helped lead the way for the Vikings first winning season in program history. The wrestling team also recorded Woodbridge wrestling s first ever dual shutout win of (47-0) under Swaggard s guidance. That season Woodbridge qualified 9 wrestlers for the Northwest Regional Tournament. During the season the Viking s Worthington Winky White advanced the furthest for any Viking wrestler in history by taking the District and Regional Championship and advancing to the State Semi-finals before and injury halted him. Woodbridge won their first wrestling Northwest Regional Championship during the school year as Swaggard continued to lead an improved Woodbridge team and followed that up the following year be defeating perennial wrestling champion Gar-Field for the first time ever in a dual meet. The following year, Swaggard helped to develop Richard Coates as he advanced to the 1977 Commonwealth and Northwest Regional Championship before falling in the state finals. In 1978 Coates again captured both the District and Regional Championship en route to the State finals which he won with a fall, again another first for Woodbridge wrestling. Also during the 1978 season Swaggard s Viking team qualifying eleven wrestlers to the Northwest Region Tournament and finishing 3rd as a team in the Northwest Region. Swaggard stepped down after six seasons as head coach, but his time was most productive as he produced Woodbridge s first winning season, first team District Championship and first Northwest Regional Championship, while also giving the Viking program it first Individual State Champion (Richard Coates) while overall compiling a record in duals over his six seasons. This was quite remarkable considering Woodbridge had never witnessed even a winning season before Swaggard took over the program. Before Swaggard arrived to Woodbridge, the wrestling program had produced only two Regional winners and in the six seasons that Swaggard coached, he produced 12 Regional Champions.
