1 THINGS TO WATCH... TORONTO RAPTORS 2009 SUMMER LEAGUE GAME NOTES GAME #5 TORONTO (2-2) vs. Milwaukee (4-0) COX PAVILLION - LAS VEGAS JULY 16, P.M. PLAYER UPDATES: Ekene Ibekwe was hurt on the final play yesterday after getting tangled up and tumbling face-first while making a game-saving block. Ibekwe was taken to hospital with all x-rays coming back negative. Ibekwe sprained both wrists and required six stitches in his chin. Roko Ukic has returned to Europe to join the Croatian National Team and will not dress. QUINCY DOUBY: Leads the team in scoring with 18.3 points through the first four games and currently ranks 20th in summer league scoring. Douby has shot 25-for-51 (.490) from the field and scored at least 16 points in all four contests. FEARSOME FOURSOME: Toronto s summer league roster includes four players (Quincy Douby, DeMar DeRozan, Patrick O Bryant and Roko Ukic) that are under contract for the season. Together the foursome continue to occupy the top-four spots in team scoring, combining for 230 of Toronto s 337 points scored during summer league. They are also shooting a combined 90-for-184 (.489) from the field, 12-for-30 (.400) from three-point range and 38-for-57 (.666) from the free throw line. DeRozan was 19 years, nine months and 19 days old when he was drafted on June 26, making him the fourth youngest player taken during the first round in franchise history. In 86 days since the season ended the Raptors have acquired five new players (Reggie Evans, Hedo Turkoglu, DeMar DeRozan, Devean George and Antoine Wright), promoted Jay Triano to head coach and added three additions to the coaching staff. Joining Triano s staff are former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Marc Iavaroni, former Raptor Alvin Williams and Francesco Cuzzolin from Italy. In the past week, forwardcentre Andrea Bargnani accepted a multi-year contract extension. Bargnani was selected as the first overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft and averaged a career-high 15.4 points last season. The following day, Toronto announced the completion of a four-team trade that brought Turkoglu to the Raptors in a sign-and-trade from Orlando, while George and Wright were acquired from Dallas. DeRozan completed the week by signing a rookie scale contract. Lakes defeated Toronto With the scored tied at 81, McCauley hit a fade-away jumper to give the Lakers the lead with 14 seconds left. Quincy Douby and Roko Ukic lead the team with 16 points each. Lakers Toronto GAME 3 - JULY 13, 2009 TORONTO 92, PORTLAND 87 Quincy Douby scored a game-high 21 points for Toronto in a loss to the Detroit Pistons in Summer League action. Douby shot 8- for-13 from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers for the Raptors. DeMar DeRozan doubled his production with 20 points on 9-for-20 shooting against the Pistons. Patrick O Bryant collected the team s first double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Toronto tired the game twice late in the fourth but could not overcome 19-point performances by Austin Daye and DeJuan Summers Total Toronto Detroit GAME 4 - JULY 15, 2009 TORONTO 74, PHOENIX 73 Quincy Douby came off the bench to score 20 points as the Toronto Raptors defeated the Portland Trail Blazers With the game tied and 9:38 remaining, Douby hit a three-pointer to put the Raptors up for good. DeMar DeRozan chipped in with 15 points and six rebounds. Jarreyd Bayless led the Trail Blazers with 22 points and seven assists, Dante Cunningham followed closely with 21 points. The game featured 22 lead changes and 12 ties. Portland Total 87 Toronto Toronto rallied from nine points down in the fourth to claim a victory over Phoenix. DeMar DeRozan hit the game-winning basket and led Toronto offensively with 20 points. Ekene Ibekwe blocked a last second shot to preserve the Raptor win. Earl Clark shined for the Suns with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Quincy Douby came off the bench to score 16 points for the Raptors, including 10 in the fourth quarter. Phoenix Total 73 Toronto

3 TEAM NOTES RETURNING TO LAS VEGAS: Several players on this year s summer league squad have played in Las Vegas before. Quincy Douby is making his fourth visit to Las Vegas. Douby first played in 2006 with the Sacramento Kings and was limited to two games because of a sore lower back. In 2008 he was third in scoring, averaging 22.3 points. Patrick O Bryant makes his third trip to summer league, after two stints with the Golden State Warriors. O Bryant averaged 9.6 points and 4.2 rebound as a rookie in 2006, and followed up the next year by averaging 5.6 points and 5.8 rebounds with the Warriors in Ekene Ibekwe and Brent Petway are the other returning players from the 2008 Las Vegas Summer League. Andrea Bargnani was the latest in 2006 when he averaged 13.2 points and 3.8 rebounds during five games in Las Vegas. Joey Graham and Charlie Villanueva both participated in the Minnesota Pro Summer League in Graham averaged 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in four games, while Villanueva averaged 17.3 points and 5.6 rebounds in three games. In 2004 Rafael Arujo averaged 8.0 points and a team-high 8.2 rebounds during five games at the Minnesota Pro Summer League. 5 SEASON REVIEW Jose Calderon led the team with a career-high 8.9 assists during 68 games. The Toronto Raptors finished with a record, missing the postseason for the first time since the season. The Raptors were at home and on the road. Toronto set a franchise record with an.824 free throw percentage (1534-for-1861, first in the NBA). The.824 mark is the third-best team free throw percentage in NBA history. Toronto finished fifth in the NBA in averaging 23.0 assists. Toronto s NBA record consecutive game streak with at least one three-point field goal made continued and is now at 860. Toronto acquired forward Jermaine O Neal and the draft rights to centre Nathan Jawai in exchange for guard T.J. Ford, forward Rasho Nesterovic, forward Maceo Baston and the draft rights to centre Roy Hibbert on July 9. Chris Bosh received his fifth NBA Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 28 Nov. 2. Bosh scored 40 points and grabbed 18 rebounds November 18 at Orlando. Chris Bosh was one of three players in the NBA to average 20 points and 10 rebounds or assists (Dwight Howard, Chris Paul) in scoring a career-high 22.7 points (first on the team, ninth in the NBA) and averaging 10.0 rebounds (sixth in the NBA). Bosh also topped his personal and franchise record for doubledoubles with 43 (previously 42). Bosh also set the franchise marks for free throws made 504 and attempts 617. Jose Calderon led the team with 8.9 assists per game (fourth in the NBA) and finished the season with the NBA single-season record for free throw percentage (.981). 8 JAY TRIANO TORONTO RAPTORS HEAD COACH Jay Triano was promoted to head coach and signed to a three-year contract May 11, He is the seventh head coach in franchise history. The campaign marks Triano s eighth as a member of the Raptors coaching staff. He served as an assistant to three coaches before being named interim head coach. He became the first Canadian born and Canadian trained coach in the NBA when he joined Lenny Wilkens staff for the season. Triano took over the head coaching duties on an interim basis December 3, 2008 following the dismissal of Sam Mitchell. Triano guided the club to a 9-4 mark in its final 13 outings in the season, and a record after the all-star break. He finished overall. A native of Niagara Falls, Triano was the head coach of the Canadian men s national team from posting a (.553) record. He led Canada to a semifinal berth in the 2003 FIBA Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico and to a 5-2 record, second best to the United States, in the 2000 Olympics. He has also served as an assistant coach of the USAB Select Team (2007 and 2008), the head coach of the NIKE Skills Academy in Vancouver (2006) and Toronto (2007), and for the past six years as a coach at the prestigious EURO CAMP in Treviso, Italy. Prior to becoming a NBA assistant coach, Triano worked in the league from as a radio and televison analyst and director of community relations for the Vancouver Grizzlies. He moved to Toronto from Vancouver in 2001 to work as a basketball analyst for TSN. Triano began his coaching career in 1985 as an assistant at his alma mater Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. He took over the school s head coaching duties in 1988 and served in that capacity until In , he also worked as an assistant coach on the Canadian men s national team and in he was the head coach of the Canadian men s junior national team. During his collegiate playing career at Simon Fraser, Triano led the Clansmen in scoring all four seasons and set 11 school records, including the career scoring mark of 2,616 points. He was also a member of the football team during his senior season. In 1981, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the eighth round of the NBA Draft and by the Calgary Stampeders in the sixth round in the CFL Draft. Following graduation, Triano played for the Canadian national team for 11 years ( ) and was team captain from He represented Canada as a player on three Olympic teams (1980, 1984 and 1988), serving as captain for the last two.
