OREGON'S NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY - The Ducks are making their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and the 14th overall in program history. - Oregon's No. 2 seed this season is the best in program history. She broke Lauri Tennant's record of 10 vs. San Diego State on March 16, OREGON'S RUN LAST YEAR - The Ducks advanced to the program's first ever Sweet 16 and Elite 8 last season. The No. 10 seed Ducks upset No. 7 seed Temple, 71-70, No. 2 seed Duke, 74-65, and No. 3 seed Maryland, 77-63, before falling to No. 1 seed UConn, Ruthy Hebard averaged a team-high 17.8 points and 8.0 rebounds over four tournament games last year. GRAVES MAKES TOURNAMENT HISTORY Only three times in the history of the NCAA women s basketball tournament has a double digit seed reached the Elite Eight. Kelly Graves was the coach of two of those teams. Graves and the No. 10 seed Ducks advanced to the Elite Eight last year while Graves and No. 11 seed Gonzaga accomplished the same in IONESCU BREAKS PAC-12 ASSISTS RECORD With her fourth of nine assists against Minnesota on March 18, Sabrina Ionescu broke the Pac-12 singleseason assists record. The sophomore's fourth assist gave her 279 on the season. Arizona's Brenda Pantoja previously held the record with 278 assists in Pantoja is now a Pac-12 referee. Ionescu, now with 284 assists this year, is 33 assists away from having career points and 500+ career assists. The only player in NCAA history have points and career assists is Gonzaga's Courtney Vandersloot, who also played point guard under Kelly Graves. IONESCU A FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN After being named Pac-12 player of the year and Pac-12 Tournament MVP, sophomore Sabrina Ionescu continued to collect more accolades when both USA Today and ESPNW named her a first team All-American. Ionescu is Oregon's first first team All- America selection since Bev Smith in IONESCU EARNS PAC-12 TOURNAMENT MVP After leading the Ducks to their first ever Pac-12 Tournament title, sophomore Sabrina Ionescu was named tournament MVP. The guard scored a Pac-12 championship game record and career-high 36 points as the No. 1 seed Ducks defeated No. 2 seed Stanford, 77-57, on March 4 at KeyArena in Seattle. The Ducks had never been to the Pac-12 tournament title game before and came away with a win in their first appearance, thanks to Ionescu's dominating performance. Ionescu tallied her 36 points on 14-of-24 shooting, including four three-pointers. Ionescu also had four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Ionescu led the Ducks, averaging 21.0 points over three games at the Pac-12 Tournament on 51.0 percent shooting. Ionescu is the third player in program history to be named Pac-12 player of the year, joining Shaquala Williams, who won in , and Lauri Landerholm, who won in , the first year the Pac-12 handed out the award. After winning Pac-12 freshman of the year honors last season, Ionescu joins Washington's Kelsey Plum, Stanford's Chiney Ogwumike, and Stanford's Jayne Appel as players in the last 10 years to win both the league's freshman and player of the year honors. Williams also won both for the Ducks, taking freshman of the year honors in before being named player of the year the following season. Ionescu is the league's first sophomore to win player of the year since Stanford's Candice Wiggins did it in SABALLY NAMED PAC-12 FROSH OF THE YEAR After being the top scoring rookie in the Pac-12 this season, forward Satou Sabally was named the Pac-12 freshman of the year. Sabally is the second-straight conference freshman of the year for the Ducks, after Sabrina Ionescu won last season. Sabally is the third all-time at Oregon to win it, as Shaquala Williams also won in Sabally, a native of Berlin, Germany, is the third international player to be named Pac-12 freshman of the year, joining Washington State's Alke Dietel (Germany) and Oregon State's Tanja Kostic (Sweden). Sabally averaged 10.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while appearing in all 31 of the Ducks' regular season games with 22 starts. Sabally made her first career start on Dec. 2 against Weber State. Three games later, against Ole Miss on Dec. 17, Sabally was back in the starting lineup for good, starting Oregon's last 21 regular season games. Bando hit her 271st career three-pointer, breaking Taylor Lilley's record of 270, set between Bando now has 278 career made threes after the Ducks beat Minnesota in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The previous record was 209, set by Corrie Mizusawa in Ionescu has matched the single-game assists record twice this season, with 14 against both Weber State on Dec. 2 and Ole Miss on Dec. 17. Ionescu has posted double-digit assists in 11 games. FOUR DUCKS EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS The Oregon women's basketball team had four players earn all-pac-12 recognition, the conference announced on Feb. 27. In a vote by the league's coaches, Sabrina Ionescu, Ruthy Hebard and Maite Cazorla each earned all-pac-12 honors while Satou Sabally was named to the Pac-12 all-freshman team. Cazorla was also named honorable mention all-defense. The Ducks' three all-pac-12 picks are the most for a single-season in program history. OREGON'S CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS - With a win over Arizona in the final game of the regular season, the Ducks clinched their first Pac-12 title since the season. The Ducks won the title outright, ahead of Stanford in second. - Oregon had only won two Pac-10/12 titles in program history prior to this season. The Ducks shared the title in when they went 15-3 in conference play. He was named the seventh head coach in program history on April 7, Graves signed a contract extension with the Ducks on April 6, 2017 which will keep him in Eugene through the campaign. Despite being the only team in the 2017 tournament to start three true freshmen, No. 10 seed Oregon knocked off No. 7 seed Temple in the first round, No. 2 seed Duke in the second round and No. 3 seed Maryland in the Sweet 16 before falling to No. 1 seed UConn in the Elite Eight. Graves is the only coach in NCAA Tournament history to take two double-digits seeds to the Elite Eight (Gonzaga in 2011, Oregon in 2017). The Ducks exciting tournament run was fueled by Graves work on the recruiting trail the year prior, as the Ducks signed the No. 3 ranked class in the nation, highlighted by USA Today national high school player of the year, Sabrina Ionescu. The lead guard would go on to be named the ESPNW and USBWA national freshman of the year, in addition to all-pac-12 and Pac-12 freshman of the year. Oregon s offense under Graves was typically efficient in , ranking in the top-30 of the NCAA in field goal percentage (45.0), three-point percentage (39.2) and assists (16.5 apg). Graves guided the Ducks to a record and an appearance in the semifinals of the WNIT in Oregon s 24 wins was just one shy of the program record of 25, set in both and The Ducks started the season with an 11-0 mark, the second-best start in program history and later in the year won five straight Pac-12 games for the first time since the season. The Ducks led the NCAA in three-point shooting at 42.1 percent and ranked sixth overall shooting 46.6 percent from the floor. At the end of the 2016 season, star forward Jillian Alleyne, a two-time All-American under Graves, was selected in the second round of the WNBA draft, the Ducks first player drafted since Graves went in his first season with the Ducks in , taking a team built to run-and-gun under former head coach Paul Westhead and instilling strong fundamentals and a tough defense-first philosophy. Oregon held their opponents under 70 points 14 times in after allowing an NCAA-worst 89.1 points per game in The new offense also got going as Graves led his Ducks to a win over No. 19 ranked Stanford in the regular season finale, UO s first win against the Cardinal since Alleyne was named a third team All-American and first team all-pac-12 following the season, making the jump from honorable mention in both as a sophomore. Oregon is Graves fourth head coaching position, previously leading the programs at Big Bend Community College ( ), Saint Mary s ( ) and Gonzaga ( ). Graves coaching career started at Big Bend CC in Moses Lake, Wash., where he accepted an assistant coaching position on the men s team, but after the women s coach left, he moved over to lead the women s program instead. In three seasons ( through ) Gaves took a four win team his first season to a record in his final year. Graves left Big Bend CC to become an assistant coach under Jim Sollars at the University of Portland prior to the season. Following four years with the Pilots, Graves was named the head coach at Saint Mary s for the campaign. Graves advanced to his first NCAA Tournament with the Gaels during the season, his second of three seasons at Saint Mary s, and went to seven more over 14 seasons at Gonzaga. Graves left Saint Mary s for Gonzaga for the seasons. His first year with the Bulldogs, his team went 5-23, including 0-14 in WCC play. But by his third year at Gonzaga, the Bulldogs went overall and went to the WNIT the following season. Gonzaga won the first of 10 straight WCC titles under Graves during the campaign when his squad went 28-4 overall and 14-0 in league play. Including that year, Graves and Gonzaga lost just 12 total conference games over his final 10 years leading the program. Gonzaga s first NCAA Tournament appearance came in , when the Bulldogs went and 13-1 in WCC, and after a WNIT bid in , Gonzaga advanced to six straight NCAA Tournaments. Graves and the Zags advanced to the Sweet 16 for three straight years (2010, 2011, 2012) and went to the Elite 8 in Overall, Graves brought eight West Coast Conference Coach of the Year awards and a (.696) Div. I head coaching record to Eugene in 2014, with a record overall before joining the Ducks. Graves added USA Basketball to his resume in the summer of 2012, becoming an assistant coach with the U18 women s basketball squad and helping the team to a gold medal at the 2012 FIBA Americas. He again coached for USA Basketball in the summer of As an assistant, he helped the USA U19 squad win the FIBA Women s World Championship.
