2 retired numbers JONI DAVIS Mizzou Hall of Fame, 1991 The most prolific scorer in Mizzou history, Davis fi nished a four-year career with 2,126 points. She also made and attempted the most field goals and still holds the career steals record of 248. Davis stands second in career scoring average with 17.1 ppg and third in field goal percentage at.532. She pulled down 863 rebounds which is second on the career list. A native of Highland, Kan., Davis started 106 of her 124 games played as a Tiger. Davis also holds four season records including most points in a season (776), scoring average (25.0), field goals attempted (593) and field goals made (326). She scored 30 or more points in 13 of her games, including a career-high 35 against Kansas State on March 2, She ranks sixth in Big Eight career scoring and 10th in rebounding. The 6-0 forward was selected as the Big Eight Female Athlete of the Year in 1985 as well as the Big Eight Player of the Year in 1984 and Davis was also named the Big Eight Tournament s most valuable player in Twice, in 1984 and 1985, she received honorable mention All-America honors and was a firstteam District V Kodak All-American. An excellent student as well, she was a second-team Academic All-America choice as a senior and won the NCAA and Big Eight postgraduate scholarships. Following graduation from Mizzou, Davis served as a graduate assistant at the University of Georgia. She completed a graduate degree in film studies at Cal State-Fullerton and worked for Universal Studios in She now lives in Los Angeles and works as a therapist. On Sept. 13, 1991, Davis was inducted into the University of Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame, becoming one of the first two women in the history of MU athletics so honored. 42 RENEE KELLY Mizzou Hall of Fame, 1994 Renee Kelly capped her outstanding career at the University of Missouri by grabbing Big Eight Player of the Year honors her last two seasons and taking home the conference s top Female Athlete of the Year award as well. She set the career rebounding mark with 1,098 boards and holds the career record for scoring (17.4) and rebounding (9.0) averages. Kelly holds the best fi eld goal percentage of any Tiger at.566. She fi nished her four-year career with 2,119 total points, just seven points behind Joni Davis mark. Kelly scored 40 or more points three times and hit at least 30 points on 16 occasions. She scored 41 points against Oklahoma on Jan. 25, 1986 to set the MU singlegame high. The 6-1 center holds six career, three season and four single game records. She ranks seventh in Big Eight scoring and fourth in rebounding. She started 96 of her 122 games as a Tiger. The Augusta, Ga., native garnered honorable mention All-America and first-team District V Kodak All-America honors in She was also chosen as one of the 12 Naismith Award fi nalists in A two-time all-big Eight Tournament player, Kelly was named the tournament s most valuable player in Kelly lives in Augusta with her husband and two kids where she is a high-school teacher and coach. 3 looking back I fell in love with the campus, and I could really visualize how I could become an integral part of the Tigers success during my campus visit. My best experiences were breaking the single-game rebound record (22) at Kansas and winning two Big Eight Championships. Tracy Ellis-Ward ( ) New York City Area Director, Fellowship of Christian Athletes I chose to attend Mizzou because of the great balance of academics and athletics. I saw that players were expected to not only graduate, but to excel in their academic endeavors. I also realized that Columbia was a great town; the community rallied around the athletes and supported us 100 percent. I had a great time playing basketball for Mizzou because I made friends that will remain for life. I learned so much about myself, how to be a strong leader, a humble follower and an encouraging team player. The lessons I learned on and off the basketball court during my four years as a player have molded me into a better person. Ekpe Akpaffiong ( ) 147 My entire family went to the University of Missouri. When it came time for me to choose a school, Mizzou was a natural choice. My experience with the school and as a player for Coach Stein was more than I ever expected. I learned so much and enjoyed every second of it. Coach Stein really helped me discover and develop my true abilities as a player, a leader, and as a person. Being a Tiger is truly a special experience that I won t forget! Amy Monsees ( ) Playing at the University of Missouri taught me many things, but it truly taught me the meaning of competition. Competing was something I thought I had done all of my life, but at Mizzou it was at a new intensity and at a level higher than I thought was possible. It set the stage for many things in my professional life.
