8 Judges Arrival & Check-in Judges Meeting & Opening Ceremony Compliance Judges Arrive 7:30 All others between 7:30 8:00 Check-in at the Judges Registration o Event information o Staff shirt o ID badge and Number o Your assignment 8:30 am Judges General Assembly o Breakfast o Introduction of Lead Judges o Briefing o Q & A 9:30 am Opening Ceremony Compliance Officers report to Compliance 1 for instruction A continental breakfast will be served.
9 Compliance Responsible for checking design compliance, safety and sea worthiness Compliance checks are conducted between 8:00 9:00am Compliance is based on a pass or fail basis Compliance Officer initials the Team Check List to certify the team has completed compliance checks 1 & 2 1. Check Point 1 Officer Assess a. sturdy construction b. safety c. operations d.design compliance (# of standard motors, and mods are no more than $20.00) 2. Check Point 2 Officer Assesses a. sea worthiness of the vehicle b. check for buoyancy c. maneuverability (dive and surface in the pool) d. check ballast (changes by the team may be necessary) Ensure the vehicle is seaworthy to avoid delays at the pool!

11 Category II Pool Performance Vehicle Performance Round 1 Obstacle Course Round 2 Crane Salvage Recovery Each team should have a fully charged battery to power their Sea Perch Back up will be available and labeled as reserve If a team uses the reserve make sure it is left at the pool deck

13 Vehicle Performance Round 1 Obstacle Course Set Up 13
14 Round 1 Obstacle Course Complete the Obstacle Course Maneuver through a submerged obstacle course of pre-arranged hoops; disable one mine at the end of the return; balloons will be released
15 Scoring the Obstacle Course 1. Record 1 point for each hoop completed during entry 2. Record 1 point for each hoop completed on the return. 3. Record Yes or No for disabling the mine, 4. Final times should be recorded to the second minutes to complete.
16 Crane Salvage Mission The Crane Salvage Mission Overview 1. Teams will be required to navigate a small maze close to the pool edge to pick up various objects. 2. The SeaPerch must reverse back through the maze, and drop the objects one at a time into a chute that directs the object into a lift basket. 3. The SeaPerch must engage a trip latch to release the basket to the surface. 4. SeaPerch team member will retrieve the objects from the basket. 5. Teams may try to retrieve the five point bonus piece only after all five standard objects have been retrieved.

19 Crane Salvage Mission Points Mission points will be scored as follows: 1. Remove Items From Maze- (2 points each/10 points) 2. Drop Items into the Basket - (4points each/20 points) 3. Raise the Basket (Square Plate Pushed) - (5 points) 4. Retrieve Items from Basket at the Surface - (3 points each/15 points) Bonus Retrieve Flat item from maze, drop in basket, and retrieve from basket after basket surfaces (10 Points) Time to Complete Mission 10 minutes. Total possible points 60.
20 Crane Salvage Rules 1. Teams may only retrieve from the maze one standard item at a time. 2. The basket can only be raised once per round. It will NOT be reset, even if raised by accident. 3. Raising the basket indicates the team has completed the item retrieval portion, regardless of the number of items in the basket. 4. The bonus flat item may only be retrieved after the 5 standard items have been dropped into the basket. 5. This item can only be retrieved using a magnet. 6. The bonus item will be brightly colored.
21 Category III Oral Poster Presentation Structure Teams form a simulated company You are the naval engineering client, screening possible companies to award the contract for innovative design Teams give a 10 minute poster presentation; followed by a 5 minute question and answer period Judges will interact with students about poster content and design Supplemental aids allowed: Laptop, IPAD, models, etc High School Teams must submit resumes as part of the poster session All team members must participate

24 Questions to Consider 1. Did the team demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the naval engineering principles used in the design and performance of their Sea Perch? 2. Did the team focus on Naval Engineering? 3. Did the team use PowerPoint and/or other visual aids? 3. Was their design innovative and involve creative thinking? 4. Did all team members participate in the oral presentation? 5. Do you have a clear understanding of how students implemented their basic knowledge of fluids and propulsion.

28 Category IV Team Spirit and Sportsmanship All participating judges can contribute to the Sportsmanship category 1. Teams demonstrating sportsmanship. A willingness to help other teams Cheers and applause for the opposing teams 2. Judges that see an act of sportsmanship can make a notation on the score sheet to be recorded and added to the Spirit score. Spirit & Sportsmanship Judges should look for both: 1. A demonstration of the highest level of team spirit. Sitting together in bleachers Using flags, signs, mascots Cheers, etc to show team spirit
29 Mascot Dance Off Mascots will challenge each other in a Dance Off Mascots will be judged by crowd applause In 2014 mascots had a mini dance off that was a colossal hit, so we are bringing it back as part of the GPSPC

31 Qualifying for Nationals The Philadelphia Regional High School and Middle School teams awarded 1st and 2 nd Place in Pool Performance will be invited to move onto the 6th National SeaPerch Challenge May 20-21, Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge - Only Regional winners can register - Up to 100 teams will participate For more info visit: Note: Nationals will have a completely different mission
