1 Rowlett High School Girls Basketball Athletic Code of Conduct Participation in athletics means more than competition between two individuals, or two teams representing different schools. Athletics teaches fair play and sportsmanship, understanding and appreciation of teamwork. Athletes must always remember they are representatives of their school and community. Athletes must make a constant effort to project a positive, respectful image. Athletes should always be considerate of those around them and never allow themselves to get into embarrassing situations that may disgrace himself or herself, or the athletic department at Rowlett High School. The conduct of an athlete shall be closely observed in many areas of life. It is important that this behavior be above reproach in all the following areas: 1. Do not use profane or vulgar language. 2. Be gracious in defeat and modest in victory. 3. Do not display fits of temper or demonstrate lack of self-control at school or on the playing field. 4. Be respectful in language and actions toward officials. 5. Demonstrate appropriate classroom conduct toward teachers and other students. 6. Respect your coaches, teachers, administrators and teammates. 7. Be a model student in class. One must be a student before being an athlete. 8. Follow all team rules and regulations. a. Do not use alcoholic beverages, tobacco, e-cigarettes, and any mind-altering chemicals (i.e. narcotics, marijuana) b. Athletes should eat and drink properly and get adequate rest. 9. Follow all school dress code standards. 10. Athletes are not allowed to wear earrings or any other jewelry in practice or games. Jewelry at school must follow school dress code policy. 11. Do not use illegal tactics, which may result in technical foul and or an ejection.

2 12. Always demonstrate good sportsmanship. 13. Athletes should maintain a good attendance record at school. Truant absences are inexcusable. 14. School attendance on game days is required. 15. An athlete dismissed from the program or quitting the program will forfeit her/his letter award. 16. Demonstrate an unselfish attitude for the team and its members. 17. Be on time for practice. 18. Attendance at practice is mandatory. Make sure coaches know when and why you can t make practice in advance. Two unexcused absences of any kind (practice or games) can result in dismissal from that sport. 19. If an injury occurs, the athlete needs to communicate with the coaches and trainer first before seeing a doctor. Most injuries can be treated at school by the training staff. 20. Only a trainer, nurse, and/or doctor can excuse an athlete from participation. A parent note/ is not accepted. If you are at school, you are expected to dress out and participate. Even if the athlete is injured, she is expected to dress out. 21. If a student becomes academically ineligible for two consecutive six weeks, the athlete will be dismissed from athletics until they demonstrate academic stability for possible future reinstatement. This might also include removal from the athletic period. 22. All athletes are required to ride the bus to and from athletic activities, except in extreme emergencies. The Head Coach must approve the GISD parent release form from the student athlete s parent or guardian before the student-athlete will be permitted to ride with his/her parents. This form must be turned in 24 hours in advance. An athlete is restricted from riding with anyone other than his or her parents. 23. It is the expectation that all athletes will ONLY receive coaching from the RHS Basketball coaching staff during all games. Players are prohibited from carrying on conversations or acknowledging any one other than teammates and coaches during games. This includes all timeouts and half times. Coaches will be instructed to remove any player from the game that violates this rule. Players on the bench violating this rule will remain on the bench. *The spirit of this rule is to allow total team control for our coaching staff. This rule does not prohibit any motivation, encouragement, or spontaneous cheering by any one. The nature of the rule is to keep all players focused on the game, on teammates, and ultimately on the coach and avoid all distractions.*

3 Academic Requirements (NO PASS, NO PLAY) **A student who receives, at the end of any grading period, a grade of below 70 in any class (other than an identified exempted class) or a student with disabilities who fails to meet the standards in the IEP may not participate in extracurricular activities for three school weeks. However, an ineligible student may practice. The ineligible student is not allowed to travel with the team, or wear school-issued equipment outside of school. The student regains eligibility after the seven calendar day waiting period has ended following the three weeks evaluation period when the principal and teachers determine that he or she has earned a passing grade (70 or above) in all classes, other than those that are on the advanced list. **All students are eligible during a school holiday of a calendar week or more. When the bell rings to dismiss students for the December holidays, all students are eligible until classes resume in January. The same is true for summer recess; fall and spring breaks provided those breaks consist of at least a full calendar week. Reassignment Center (RAC) **All students who spend any part of a school day (full day or just one minute) in Reassignment Center (RAC) becomes ineligible for UIL play until 24 hours after they are released. Loss of Privilege (LOP) List **Any student on the LOP list is ineligible until they are cleared by an administrator. Violation of all other Athletic Code Requirements: Violation of all other athletic code requirements is subject to punishment ranging from disciplinary action, to dismissal, determined by the coach of the team, Athletic Coordinator, or Principal.

5 ATHLETE CODE OF CONDUCT AGREEMENT The basic principle of conduct under which we will always operate is: Conduct yourself in such a manner that you bring credit to yourself, your family, your teammates, and to Rowlett High School. Never engage in any activity that can be construed as inappropriate for a member of the Rowlett High School basketball program. I, have read and understand the athletic code of conduct for student athletes at Rowlett High School. I agree to follow this code of conduct and understand that failure to do so could result in termination of my privileges to participate in athletics at Rowlett High School.
