The season opener marked the first time Duke started four freshmen since the season when Johnny Dawkins, Mark Alarie, Jay Bilas, and David Henderson started 23 times together. Of Coach K s 1,303 games as Duke s coach, only 50 times have four freshmen started together (27 in ) and in only 94 games have three or more freshmen started. DUKE S ACC AWARD WINNERS Marvin Bagley III was named the ACC Player and Rookie of the Year, joining Duke s Jahlil Okafor (2015) as the only players in ACC history to sweep both awards in a season. Bagley is the 12th ACC Player of the Year under Coach K, the most of any coach in ACC history. North Carolina s Dean Smith coached six. The other current active coaches in the ACC have combined for five. Bagley was both a unanimous first-team All-ACC and All- Freshman selection. He was joined on the All-ACC team by freshman Wendell Carter, Jr. (second team and All- Freshman) and senior Grayson Allen (third team).
