3 General Information Dates and Provisional Itinerary Saturday 26 th April 2014* 0900 Head Coach Meeting 0930 Arrivals/Opening Ceremony 1000 Competition 1730 Awards/Closing Ceremony 1800 Departures *Please note that if team numbers are not able to be accommodated purely on the Saturday and there are sufficient entries to warrant a second day of competition, then competition and therefore award and closing ceremonies may spill over on to Sunday 27 th April. A decision on this will be made after the closing date and all teams notified asap. Venue o The competition will be held in the Soar Valley Netball Centre, Soar Valley College, Gleneagles Ave, Leicester, LE4 7GY o For general information on the local area please visit the tourist information office: Athlete Entry Form Deadline o The deadline for the return of all Athlete Entry Forms is Thursday 20 th March o Athlete entries will only be accepted after this date with prior authorisation from Mary Martin (stalis.crete@yahoo.co.uk) and Val Kindred (v.kindred@lboro.ac.uk) and are subject to a late entry fee of 15 per team. Cost o The Athlete entry fee for the 2014 National Netball Competition will be 35 per team. Fees are due with completed Payment Forms and Athlete Entry Forms by Thursday 20 th March o There is no fee payable for Coaches/Escorts, Family Members/Supporters What s included in the cost? o Opening Ceremony. o Closing Ceremony. o Award ceremonies. o Athlete s competition entry. o Insurance. o The organisers are also hoping to be able to have water on offer to athletes as well. 4 Late Entries o There will be an additional late entry fee of 15 per team for entries not received by Thursday 20 th March Please remember however that late entries will only be accepted with prior authorisation from Mary Martin (stalis.crete@yahoo.co.uk) and Val Kindred (v.kindred@lboro.ac.uk) o If you think that your entry will be late please inform Mary Martin or Val Kindred and give a date of when will be expected. Making Payments All monies must be sent with a completed Payment Form (see end of document). Cheques should be made payable to SOGB or Special Olympics Great Britain. Please do not send cash through the post. Accommodation o Teams, family members and spectators will all be required to book their own accommodation. o There is a Travel Lodge and Premier Inn close to the competition venue. Food and Refreshments o Teams, family members and spectators will all be required to make their own catering arrangements for all meals. o The nearest supermarket is Sainsbury (about 3 miles away) and there is a shopping complex about 20 minutes away as well. o The organisers are also hoping to be able to have water on offer to athletes as well. 5 Insurance o The event is covered by third part liability insurance, through Special Olympics Great Britain. Entertainment o Information concerning any entertainment that can be arranged (dependent on entries and costs) will be sent through in due course. Family Members/Supporters o Any Family Members/Supporters who would like to watch the competition will be able to do so from the bleachers at the end of the centre. o Family Members/Supporters need to organise their own accommodation and catering as noted in the above sections. Teams o As this is a National Competition, teams will be representing their Special Olympics GB regions. Entry into this competition must therefore be sanctioned by your Special Olympics GB regional committee. o Teams should abide by the Athletes Code of Conduct at all times o Only Athletes registered with Special Olympics GB may take part in this event. If individuals are not currently registered, they must contact Emily Onley (emily.onley@sogb.org.uk) who can provide details on how to being this process, please note however that this process will take time and so Emily should be contacted asap. Head Coach o Each region must appoint one person to act as the Head Coach for that region. The appointment of the Head Coach must be endorsed by the Special Olympics GB regional committee. o Head Coaches are required to attend Head Coaches meetings which will be held on the morning of the competition at 9 am. o Head Coaches are responsible for submitting all of the forms relating to the competition and checking that athletes skill forms are completed and in the correct rank is detailed on the form as well as the positions played by the athlete. They are also responsible for managing them during the competition. o Head Coaches are responsible for ensuring that athletes abide by the Athletes Code of Conduct at all times. Coach/Escorts o All Coach/Escorts (including the Head Coach) attending this competition must have completed the Special Olympics GB s volunteer registration process and have a DBS/Disclosure Scotland at enhanced level dated on or after 26 th April 2012 o Coach/Escorts should abide by the Volunteers Code of Conduct at all times Page 5 of National Netball Competition Last Updated:
6 Athlete to Coach/Escort Ratio o In accordance with the Special Olympics General Rules the maximum ratio of Athletes to Coach/Escorts for this event is 4:1. Athlete Eligibility For Athletes to be eligible to participate in this competition, they must Be at least 8 years of age on 26 th April Have a learning disability as defined by Special Olympics GB. Have a current membership of Special Olympics GB (SAM Registration) OR are in the process of registration with Special Olympics GB. Have competed in at least one regional competition or the Marion Smith Netball Championships prior to this event. Have been training regularly for a minimum of 26 weeks. Be technically capable of competing at the level of competition that they are entering. Page 6 of National Netball Competition Last Updated:
7 Competition Information Venue Layout Events Offered o Athletes can enter either the Junior event or Senior event o Please detail which event teams are entering on the attached ranking form. Divisioning o Due to the expected number of Netball teams entering this event there will be no divisioning matches played during the competition. Instead, teams will be divisioned based on the information given on the ranking form. o Protests cannot be made concerning divisioning. Page 7 of National Netball Competition Last Updated:
8 Registration o Head Coaches should register their team during the Head Coach Meeting. o Head Coaches are responsible for informing the organisers of what colours their team will be wearing during the competition. Protests o Protests will only be accepted from the named Head Coach of that Region. o Protests must be put in writing on the appropriate form and submitted within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the results being posted and before any award presentations. o Head Coaches protests must be accompanied by a 20 deposit, which will be refunded if the protest is upheld. o Video recordings will not be acceptable as evidence to support a protest. o The Sports Rules Committee will consist of three members including Mary Martin and Val Kindred who will review all protests and the Sports Rules Committee s decision shall be final. o Protests concerning divisioning will not be accepted. o Protests relating to Umpires/Officials decisions will not be accepted. Awards Ceremonies o Awards will be given out in accordance to the regulations as per Special Olympics Article 1 (section J). o Awards will be given out at the end of the competition, on one of the courts. o Athletes should wear their track suit tops for all awards presentations. o Spectators will be able to view the awards presentations from the seating area. o Photographs can be taken of the awards ceremonies but individuals taking photos must have completed the relevant form prior to the competition and display their badge. o The Closing Ceremony will follow straight after the Awards Ceremony. Photography o Individuals wishing to take photographs at the event will require to register on entry to the centre and will be given a badge to display their registration. Uniform/Clothing o All teams must be appropriately dressed and Head Coaches are reminded that competition uniform must be in accordance to the regulations as per Special Olympics Article 1 (Section X). o Please ensure that athletes also wear the appropriate footwear. o Teams must bring at least two different coloured sets of bibs with them in case of a colour clash. o Please remind athletes that no jewellery should be worn whilst playing and that body piercing should be either taken out or covered appropriately. Equipment o Size 5 balls will be used for the competition o Netball posts will be covered o There will be practice balls available for use prior to the competition. 9 Netball Specific Information Sports Rules o The competition will be run in accordance with Official Netball Rules published by the International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA) and adopted by England Netball as per 2007 as well as with the attached modifications. o The competition will be run as a round robin with play offs for 3/4 th place and 1 st and 2 nd place. o Substitutes should be detailed on the team sheet which should be given to the desk before the game. Head Coaches will need to indicate to the umpire when a substitution is required during the game. o Awards will be determined by using the system of 3 points for a win, 0 points for loss and 1 point for a draw. Umpires/Officials o At all times the Umpires/Officials decision is final. o Protests relating to an Umpires/Officials decisions will not be accepted. o Athletes and Coaches/Escorts should respect all Officials/Umpires as well as opponents in an appropriate manner. Ranking of Athletes o There is a ranking form included in this entry pack which indicates three levels of play. Please complete the form and return this with your entry forms. Honest Effort Rule o Coaches must ensure that Athletes participate honestly and with maximum effort in all divisioning and/or final competition. o Athletes who are identified as not have participated to their full potential with the intent of being placed in a lower division will be disqualified from the competition. 10 Forms All forms (see attached / end of document) are to be sent to: Name: Emily Onley, Special Olympics Great Britain Address: Corinthian House 1 st Floor, 6-8 Great Eastern Street London EC2A 3NT emily.onley@sogb.org.uk o The deadline for the return of Delegation Lists, Payment Forms, Ranking Forms, and Athlete Release Forms is Thursday 20 th March 2014 the organisers reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone whose forms and payments are not returned complete by this deadline. o Head Coaches should keep a photocopy of every form that is submitted. o Incomplete forms will be returned to the Head Coach of that region and the team will not be entered into the competition until all forms have been returned complete. Only one form per region will be accepted. o All payments must be accompanied by a completed Payment Form. Ranking Form (see end of document) o Please fill out all of the details in full. Incomplete forms will be returned to the Head Coach of that region and the Athlete will not be entered into the competition until all forms have been returned complete Athlete Release Form (see attached) o If an athlete has not already completed this form as part of their SAM registration, please ensure that Athletes sign the correct form relevant to the Athlete s age (either over 18 or under 18). 11 o Athletes aged 18 years of age or older at the time of completing the form MUST sign or make their mark on the form. If the athlete is an adult, forms signed by anyone else are not legally valid. o Athletes less than 18 years of age at the time of completing the form must have the forms signed by a parent or legal guardian Health Information Form (see attached) Health Information Forms do not have to be returned to the competition organiser however: o It is the Head Coaches responsibility to ensure that ALL individuals (Athletes and Coaches/Escorts) attending the competition as part of a region complete the Health Information Form. The Head Coach must ensure that they have a copy of ALL of these forms with them for the duration of the competition. o Individuals aged 18 years of age or older at the time of completing the form MUST sign or make their mark on the form. If the athlete is an adult, forms signed by anyone else are not legally valid. o Individuals less than 18 years of age at the time of completing the form must have the forms signed by a parent or legal guardian.
