Monday s game will culminate a $375 million renovation project at Arrowhead. The contest will also cap a rare NFL-MLB combination at the Truman Sports Complex as the Kansas City Royals face the Oakland A s at 2:10 PM. Kansas City is making its fi rst appearance on MNF since 2005 and is hosting MNF for the fi rst time since Kansas City will open the season at home for the fi rst time since 2006 and will host the Chargers on MNF for just the second time in this storied series between a pair of original American Football League franchises. An 86-yard punt return TD by the Chiefs in OT provided a thrilling conclusion to that initial MNF meeting at Arrowhead as KC secured a OT victory (10/9/95). Under the guidance of Head Coach Todd Haley, the Chiefs made substantial progress in The Chiefs improved in 30 different statistical categories and fi nished the year with a victory at Denver (1/3/10). The Chiefs led the NFL in Red Zone scoring effi ciency in 2009, scoring on 89.5 percent (34 of 38) of their Red Zone possessions. Kansas City also made dramatic gains over the course of the season s fi nal eight games as the Chiefs averaged an NFL-best 5.2 yards per carry over the second half of the year. Defensively, the Chiefs ranked eighth in the NFL, forcing three and outs at a 24.4% (49 of 201) clip. Playing smarter has been a point of emphasis under Haley. The Chiefs ranked eighth in the NFL with just 84 penalties in 2009 and were sixth in penalty yardage (667) a year ago. As of September 7th, 56.6% of the Chiefs roster (30 of 53 players) owned three years of experience or less, including 10 rookies. That rookie class features a seven-man 2010 draft class, six of whom were season captains for their fi nal collegiate season. In total, the Chiefs added 16 new players to their roster in Based on ages as of September 1st, the average age of the Chiefs 53- man roster is 25.9 years old. 2 VS. CHIEFS HEAD COACH - TODD HALEY Todd Haley was named the 11th head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs on February 6, 2009 and begins his second year leading the Chiefs. Haley enters his 16th season in the NFL in 2010 and his 14th season as an NFL coach after beginning his career as a scouting assistant with the N.Y. Jets in 95. Haley joined the Chiefs after a two-year stint as Arizona s offensive coordinator ( ), helping the Cardinals reach Super Bowl XLIII as the club won its first division title since 75. Under Haley s direction, the Cardinals ranked third in the league in scoring as Arizona registered a franchise-record 427 points in The Cardinals also threw a team-record 32 TD passes in Haley has won division titles with four different NFL teams. CHARGERS HEAD COACH - NORV TURNER Norv Turner was named the 14th head coach in Chargers history on February 19, 2007 after spending the 2006 campaign as San Francisco s offensive coordinator. He guided San Diego to a third straight AFC West Division title and a 13-3 record in 2009 before being knocked out of the playoff hunt in the divisional round. Turner s 25 years of coaching experience include 12 as a head coach with three different franchises. He led Oakland ( ) for two seasons and spent seven seasons as head coach of Washington ( 94-00), guiding the Redskins to a 10-6 record and an NFC East title in 99. The Lejeune, North Carolina native previously served as offensive coordinator in Miami ( ), San Diego (2001) and Dallas ( 91-93) where he earned Super Bowl XXVII and XXVIII rings. Prior to joining Dallas, Turner coached six years with the L.A. Rams ( 85-90), tutoring both the receivers and tight ends. He spent nine seasons at USC ( 76-84) and was part of the Trojans 78 National Championship squad and four Rose Bowl teams. He entered the coaching profession as a graduate assistant with Oregon in 75. Turner earned three varsity letters as a QB at Oregon. QB Matt Cassel begins his second year leading the Chiefs offense after being acquired via trade with New England in After fi nishing the 2009 season with 190 carries for 1,120 yards, RB Jamaal Charles is joined in the backfi eld by free agent RB Thomas Jones who rushed for 1,402 yards in 2009 with the N.Y. Jets. WR Chris Chambers totaled a team-high 608 receiving yards after being claimed off waivers from San Diego. He is joined by WRs Dwayne Bowe (D1-07) and Terrance Copper. TE Leonard Pope enters his fi fth year in the league after joining the Chiefs in 2009 TE Jake O Connell (D7-09) started a pair of contests in 2009 and is joined by rookie TE Tony Moeaki (D3b-10). Up front, four-time Pro Bowl G Brian Waters starts his 11th season in Kansas City. C Casey Wiegmann and G Ryan Lilja were both acquired in the off-season.
