August 2016 What a nice day it turned out to be at Whitehorse stadium. Clouds looked ominous at the start but did not develop into anything and then the sunshine made for a pleasant day. It is also nice that all sections get their fair Some of our older teams were depleted of their normal players as they were at zone academy try outs. This allowed for other players to step up to the mark and be given opportunities. Overall all teams did well on the day. The structure across all age groups that Banyule has instilled in all players allows us to have seamless Then there was our 2016 Presentation Night attended by 185 parents and players. It never ceases to amaze me how different the girls look with their hair down and all dressed up. Hard to recognize even your own team let Thank you to Rose De ` Lazzari and Julie Sealey for the organisation on the night and to Jayne McKenzie who was MC for evening. Great job Jayne. This was once again a special evening for all players to celebrate the season to date and time to present our awards. The recipient of the 2016 BDNA Community Award was Mr. Peter Weir former Board member and treasurer for his services in ensuring the financial status of BDNA was viable and stable. A special award for Outstanding Service to BDNA was presented to Mr. Alan Watson for recognition of his work in steering the ship during difficult and turbulent years and ensuring BDNA is now stronger than ever. 2 NOW FROM THE COACHES & PLAYERS UNDER 11Pink Pauline Zealley What an outstanding performance from our under 11 girls at this tournament. We went in with only 7 players knowing it would be a tough day but the fixture allowed us time for recovery and it wasn t until the last game that the fatigue set in, but they girls stayed strong and finished off the tournament undefeated. Coaching is full of highs and lows but for myself this was one of those days where I got to see the players on court use the skills that we work so hard on at training come to fruition. Our defenders have always had the ability to take lots of tap outs, usually resulting in throw ins to the opposition, but at this tournament Ella and Ursula experienced the rewards that come from attacking every rebound with two hands. This together with their strong one on one defence resulted in only 19 goals shot against them in the whole tournament. Bailee as WD was awesome, attacking every ball coming down court with two hands resulting in many clean intercepts or at the very least drawing contact. This hard work by our defenders, together with quick transition through the centre court by Bridget and her clever passing to our goalers ensured the results were on the board. With Liv working hard in attack, with quick changing of angles, provided the girls with an alternative option to the goal circle Evie s great timing and clever angles driving to the post together with excellent team work and the accurate shooting that Emma brings to the game our girls reaped the rewards shooting 70 goals over the day. A great display of netball all down the court. Well done girls. You so deserve your successes. Thank you to Amanda for stepping in as team manager and tracking me down and ensuring I was where I was meant to be and to all the parents for support.

3 Under 11 White Amy Leahy For this tournament we were missing Isabella and Bianca but we had gained Bree! Bree slotted in to the team beautifully, playing confidently and she listened to instructions well. We started with a couple of games outside. The courts were still wet and Jenna and Grace both slipped over within the first two games but were quick to brush themselves off and continue with the tournament. There was some tough competition and the girls had to fight hard against their opponents. The girls won their first three games with hard running down the court, using their angles and having their hands over the ball. The defenders put in a great effort all day and Alex, Grace and Siena are improving at watching the GS run out and dropping back to the post. Siena B has improved greatly at getting the ball out of defence and used her angles towards the ball. Alice moved out of WD and played well in WA, finding the space and feeding the goalers well. Ella and Sienna M powered on in the mid court throughout the day, also putting pressure on the opposition when the ball was turned over. Jenna teamed up with Bree and goaled consistently. In the end we ended up winning 4 gamed and losing two. One more tournament to go!! On Sunday the 14/8/16 we all travelled to Vermont south for the Whitehorse Netball Tournament. Our first game was at 8.30am so we all met at 8.15am for a warm up. We played 6 fantastic games. We won 4 and lost 2. Our whole team played really well and well done to our 2 shooters who worked especially hard. Thank you very much too all the parents who helped out on the day. Thank you to Pauline and Amy for being so supportive. It was another awesome tournament. - Alice Williams

4 Under 13 Pink Libby Ellis What a delight to coach the u/13 1's! Thank you to the girls and parents for making me feel very welcomed. Thanks Deb for your timely hot drinks, much appreciated. A mix of inside and outside games 8 in total. The girls played some solid netball under a new coach (always hard) I was very impressed with the girl s willingness to learn and execute new things. A tough draw meant only top 2 teams advanced to the GF. We ended up equal points with Mornington for second and unfortunately went down by 1 goal. Great effort girls considering all the changes to your team.

5 UNDER 13/2 - JULIE SEELEY Our second last tournament was at Whitehorse Netball Association. With Madeline, Ella and Eleanor playing up in the 13/1s, we welcomed Mollie and Rose into our team for the day. We played against MPNA, Pakenham Power, Whitehorse, PV Comets and Waverley City. So with 5 games to play we had to make each one count. Our only loss was against the home team, Whitehorse. We finished second for the day and booked a semifinal against MPNA who we beat in our first game of the day We beat them again 13-9, playing 2 solid halves of netball. Another great day of netball and another grand final. Running with 8 players, all the girl's legs were tiring but we had one more game to go against Whitehorse. The grand final was hard fought, all players giving their all but unfortunately we were runners up today. Thanks to Katrina for stepping into Cat's team managers shoes for the day. Thanks to all the family members for coming out and supporting their daughter/granddaughter. See you all at Doncaster.

6 UNDER 13/3 Olivia Turner Dickason The Whitehorse tournament was a very successful day for the under 13/3s team. Coming into the tournament today we welcomed four emergencies into the team, Abbey, Abigail, Eden and Evelyn. I was nervous at the thought of having only five original players but I was proven wrong. The way these four girls performed on the day was amazing. Looking at the team as a whole, the way they executed and delivered their skills out on court, got them to finals yet again! The semi-final was tough and ended up in time on. At the end of time on we successfully won by one goal. With the parents celebrating over the win, it was like the girls had just won the grand final but unfortunately they had one more game to go. Heading into the grand final the team really had to dig deep and give it everything they had left. Coming up against the home team Whitehorse, we ended up winning by two goals. Thanks Hasinah for doing your job so well. Congratulations to the girls for taking out another tournament, bring on Doncaster girls. This weekend s tournament was at Whitehorse. We had a bit of a slow start in the cold but came out undefeated the whole day, finishing on top of the table. Then came finals! The semi-final was a thriller against Southern Fusion, going into extra time which we finally won by one point. Then we competed in the grand final against Whitehorse which we won without extra time. Big thanks to Abi, Eden, Evelyn, and Abbey for playing with us today, you all did a great job. It was a great tournament and I look forward to the next one in Doncaster. 7 UNDER 15 Under 15 White Sharon Grimes The Whitehorse Tournament was going to prove challenging, with our Under 15 squad rather depleted with girls unavailable or trialling for Zone Academy. I took a group of girls, a mix of my 15/2's and 15/3's. We had the challenge of playing in the Open section on the day. The girls accepted the challenge and we went through the rounds with three wins and two losses, finishing the rounds in third place. We faced a tough Waverly Open team in the semi-final and were well beaten. However, the girls played some great netball during the day and whilst often facing taller and physically bigger opposition, they never stopped trying. Well done girls!

8 Under 15 Blue Jo Davies It was a Big day on court for the combination team U 15 Banyule Blue. With Lulu, Belle, and Cara in defense, Elly and Emily running centre and Tara, Ava and Chloe working in attack we took to the court with a balanced and positive crew; all well aware of the challenging day ahead. A tentative first game outdoors resulted in loss, driving our effort and determination to make immediate improvements for the following games. I was enormously proud of the girls as they gained confidence during the day, worked on creating space, timing of leads and strong holds in both attack and defense. They continued to support and encourage each other; were respectful of the skills around them and worked with incredible focus to make our draw, a win and a final game of only a 1 goal loss possible against strong opposition. There was great learning from having to fight hard for every goal, every intercept gained and having the maturity to deal with the physical challenges thrown at Banyule Blue girls this tournament. Just as well there was shoes and outfit talk for a little time out from court focus! Super effort girls, thank you to our parents for support and especially to Jayne for taking on the manager s role. It was a pleasant day at the Whitehorse tournament. It was great to play with all the girls and have Jo coaching us. When we heard we were playing in the 2 s section, we were a bit nervous and we knew today was going to be a challenge. Our first game was not the best and we lost to Yarra Ariels 7 to 13. The next team we played was Whitehorse and we lost 4 to 12. The next game was so tight against Mornington Peninsula and the end result was a draw! After that game we had our first win against Eastern United. Our last game was against Waverly city and we lost by only one goal. Unfortunately, we didn t make the finals however, we played like a strong team and kept our heads high the whole time. Thanks to all the parents, coaches and supporters on the day. - Elly McKenzie
