7 COMPETITION STRUCTURE The Championship structure is fully explained in the Rules and Regulations, printed in the back of this booklet. Below is a brief outline of how the Championship runs. The four days of competition gives students the opportunity to participate in and socially mix with their peers from schools across Australia and visiting countries. This structure allows teams to work through the initial rounds to then play against teams of the same standard. Teams finish up playing for positions 1 st through to last, providing matches that count for all teams right through to the end. Teams that draw one match throughout the tournament have ended up playing for positions 5 to 8 instead of 1 to 4. All matches count right to the end and this is what enhances the quality of competition for all schools and makes this championship, a championship for all schools and abilities. Girls Section: Day One & Two Teams are divided into Sections, with all teams playing each other in each section over day 1 & 2. At the end of day 2 the top 4 teams in each section go through to Blue Division on day 3, teams finishing 5 th to 8 th go through to Red Division. Day Three Teams are divided into Blue A, Blue B, Blue C and Blue D according to the rules and the position they finished in there section at the end of day 2. The same happens for Red Division. Teams usually play either morning or afternoon on day 3. The final position on the ladder in your division on day 3 determines what position you will play for on day 4.

8 Day Four All teams play for final positions on Day 4. From the results at the end of play on day 3, teams finishing 1 st on the ladder in their Blue Division are ranked on goal percentage and form a semi final scenario for positions 1 to 4 in the championships, Teams finishing 2 nd on the ladder in their Blue Division are ranked on goal percentage and form a semi final scenario for positions 5 to 8 in the championships, The same scenario happens for teams finishing 3 rd and 4 th in Blue Divisions on day 3 and all teams in the Red Divisions, giving every team a final position right through to the last positions in the championships. Opening Ceremony All Schools are to participate in the Opening Ceremony which is a presentation of each school a few words from officials and hopefully a Special guest to speak and officially open the Championships. Medical A qualified sports trainer or physiotherapist will be in attendance each day from 30 minutes prior to the first match commencing each day until the conclusion of play were possible. Teams are encouraged to include a primary care medico in their official party. Ice will be available for injuries and injury management. Team Photo s A Photographer is engaged to be the Official Photographer at the Waverley International School Netball Championships. We ask all teams to have a photo taken, as the photographer produces individual and team photos that are a real souvenir for the players. The photos are taken on 1 st day of play and returned to the teams by 12noon, on the Friday, the final day of play. Information about registering to have a team photo taken is sent out with the Acceptance Letter.

9 NOTES FROM SCHOOLS WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED Many schools have the Waverley International Schools Netball Championships as part of their annual calendar or bi annual calendar. We seek feedback from the schools at the completion of the event each year, below are a few of the comments taken from the evaluations forms over the years and also a note from Sophie Szabo, Governor Stirling Senior High School, Perth. Feedback: - We liked the length of the games. 4 quarters was great for rotating players. - Umpiring was of a great standard, we had no complaints all week! - Thank you, the players had an amazing time! - Good mix of indoor and outdoor games. - Kiosk had a good variety of food at reasonable prices. Lunch order system worked for us! - Opportunity to play against high standard teams. Governor Stirling Senior High School, Perth, Western Australia Governor Stirling Senior High School made its first appearance at Waverley International Schools Netball Championship in 2014, travelling all the way from Perth to experience one of the most challenging and highly skilled International Championships. The students from Governor Stirling were presented with a fantastic opportunity to compete against schools from Interstate and from overseas. This allowed us to experience a diverse range of skills and abilities in other teams playing styles throughout the whole tournament. It challenged our students to further develop their combinations, strategies and performance under pressure. A highlight for the girls was seeing Sri Lanka compete. The Waverley International School Netball Championships is a friendly, well organised tournament where athletes are able to expand and develop their skills, foster team building and collaboration and create new friendships. From the positive experience and personal growth that has occurred with our students from Governor Stirling this International Netball Championships has now been adopted into the yearly sporting calendar. The staff and students are looking forward to returning in the years to come. Sophie Szabo Netball Program Coordinator Governor Stirling Senior High School
