3 Meet the Head Coach Head Coach Bob Walsh Bob Walsh begins his fifth season as Rhode Island College's head men s basketball coach. He has presided over one of the most successful periods in the program's storied history. In , RIC went 23-6 and posted a 13-1 mark in the Little East Conference, establishing a new program record for league wins in a season en route to the Anchormen's third Regular Season Championship in the past five seasons. Rhode Island College, which advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight campaign, was selected as a fourteam host site for the second time in three years. In , the Anchormen posted a 23-7 overall record and an 11-3 (second place) mark in the Little East Conference. Rhode Island College won the LEC Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season where RIC won its first round contest. In , Walsh led Rhode Island College to a 27-4 overall record, establishing the best season in school history for wins. The Anchormen went 12-2 (first place) in the Little East Conference, capturing the program's first-ever LEC Regular Season Championship. The Anchormen hosted the Little East Tournament for the first time in program history, going undefeated with a 3-0 mark to win the tourney title and advance to the NCAA Tournament. RIC advanced to the Sweet 16 and then to the Elite 8 where the Anchormen lost to the eventual National Champion (Amherst). It was the program's first appearance in the NCAAs in 28 years. Walsh led the Anchormen to a overall record and a 9-5 (third place) finish in the Little East Conference during his first season at the helm in He led RIC back to the Championship Game of the 2006 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Men's Basketball Championship for the second consecutive season where the Anchormen hosted the title contest for the first time in school history. Walsh, 37, spent seven seasons as an assistant coach with the Providence College basketball program prior to coming to RIC. The hard-working assistant joined Head Coach Tim Welsh's staff in 1998 after spending the campaign as an assistant coach at the University of San Diego. At San Diego, Walsh's duties included developing an individual workout system, working with the team's guards and post players, scouting upcoming opponents and coordinating the school's off-season improvement program. Walsh got his start in college coaching when he served as an administrative assistant on Welsh's staff at Iona from while working on his Master's Degree in Mass Communications and Public Relations. In two seasons at Iona, the New York native organized office recruiting, coordinated scouting, handled the team's travel and directed the Gaels' study hall and academic improvement programs. Prior to joining the staff at Iona, Walsh served as a student assistant coach at his alma mater, Hamilton College. A 1994 graduate, Walsh has a bachelor of arts degree in sociology. Walsh is single and resides in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. 3

4 Meet the Assistant Coaches Assistant Coach Kareem Hayletts Kareem Hayletts enters his fourth season as an assistant men s basketball coach at Rhode Island College. He assists head coach Bob Walsh with all phases of the RIC men s basketball program including recruiting, scouting, administering practices and game coaching. Hayletts joined the Anchormen after four varsity seasons at Providence College, where he played for then assistant coach Walsh. The three-time recipient of the Unsung Hero Award earned a scholarship prior to his senior season. During his senior campaign, Hayletts saw action in a career-high 31 contests. On Feb. 18, 2003, Hayletts scored a career-high six points on three field goals to propel Providence past Miami, The Friars accepted their 16th berth into the N.I.T. Tournament that season, advancing to the third round. Hayletts also has previous coaching experience on the summer camp circuit, serving as an instructor at the Providence College Basketball Camp, International Youth Basketball Camp, and Eastern Invitational Basketball Camp. A native of Bergenfield, New Jersey, Hayletts earned a bachelor s degree in finance in 2003, and is currently working on his M.B.A. at Providence College. He is single and resides in Providence, Rhode Island. Back-To-Back Little East Conference Tournament Champions

5 Meet the Assistant Coaches Assistant Coach John Weir John Weir begins his first season as an assistant men's basketball coach at Rhode Island College. He assists Head Coach Bob Walsh with all phases of the RIC men s basketball program, including recruiting, scouting, administering practice and game coaching. He previously served as an assistant coach at Connecticut College during the season. "I'm very excited to be back at RIC contributing to one of the best programs in New England, Weir said. This is an excellent opportunity for me to learn from Head Coach Bob Walsh and I look forward to continuing the success that the program and athletic department have enjoyed in the past years. The Danbury, Conn. native starred as an Anchorman at RIC from He played in 111 games, starting 34 of them. He totaled 443 career points, 355 rebounds, 25 assists, 43 steals and 105 blocks. He averaged 4.0 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for his career. At the time of his graduation, Weir was second all-time at RIC in career games played. As a senior in , he played in 31 games, starting five of them, during the Anchormen s Little East Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships and subsequent run to the NCAA Elite Eight. He averaged 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Weir recorded season-highs of 10 points twice, six rebounds on four occasions, three blocks vs. UMass Boston on Jan. 13 and three steals vs. Western Connecticut on Feb. 6. As a junior in , Weir played in 29 games, starting nine of them. He averaged 4.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and a team-high 1.1 blocks per game. He registered a season-high 16 points and a career-high 14 rebounds vs. Johnson & Wales on Dec. 6, posted a season-high two assists vs. Keene State on Jan. 21, a career-high five blocks vs. Salve Regina on Dec. 8 and three steals vs. Coast Guard on Mar. 1. As a sophomore in , he played in 29 games, starting 20 of them. He averaged 5.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and a team-high 1.1 blocks per game. He registered a career-high of 18 points vs. Plymouth State on Jan. 22, grabbed 10 rebounds twice and five blocks vs. Southern Maine on Jan. 11. As a freshman in , Weir played in 22 games. He averaged 2.0 points, 2.4 rebounds per game and was second on the team with 15 blocks. He registered season-highs of 10 points vs. Eastern Connecticut on Dec. 13, seven rebounds vs. Newbury on Dec. 11 and three blocks vs. Kean University on Dec. 27. He graduated from Rhode Island College in 2008, earning a bachelor s degree in history. Weir is currently taking graduate courses at Providence College. He is single and resides in Providence.
