These are just a few words that come to mind when talking with Jim Jabir. On April 8, 2003, the University of Dayton introduced Jabir as the women's basketball team's eighth head coach and first male head coach in the history of the program. The Flyers have been one of the most improved teams in the nation under the direction of Jabir. UD had the fourth best single-season turnaround in the nation in the season with an improvement of nine wins over the previous campaign. Jabir and Dayton continured the trend in with an improvement of five more wins, giving UD the second best improvement over a two-year span in the nation. The season also saw two different Flyers earn Atlantic 10 All- Conference accolades as UD advanced finished sixth in a conference that sent five teams to postseason play. Dayton also advanced to the Quarterfinals of the A-10 Tournament and finished with a winning record for the first time in five years. Jabir came to UD after spending one season as an assistant at Colorado. In his last season at CU, the Buffaloes (24-8) advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament and were ranked as high as 23rd in the ESPN/Coaches' Poll and 24th in the Associated Press Poll. Jabir was primarily responsible for the development of CU's post players, including the Buffaloes' first-ever First Team All-Big 12 selection. Basketball Information Head Coach... (937) Jabir had been a head coach for 16 seasons prior to coaching at CU with an all-time career mark of His broad coaching experience ranges from the Big East Conference to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Brooklyn, NY native began his coaching career as an assistant at Nazareth College ( ) and at Buffalo State ( ). Jabir was instrumental in leading the Bengals to a 23-3 slate, the SUNYAC title, a 22-game winning streak, an NCAA regional tournament appearance and a national ranking (No. 3) during the season. After one season as an assistant, Jabir became the head coach at Buffalo State during the season at the age of 24. He led that team to a record and guided the Bengals to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship and an appearance in the Division III Tournament. Jabir matriculated to Siena College from Buffalo State, where he served as the head coach of the Saints for three seasons ( ) and compiled a record. Jabir's teams posted three consecutive winning seasons. In his first season, Jabir was responsible for the development of Siena's first-ever Freshman All-American. After his stint at Siena, Jabir spent six years at Marquette University becoming one of the most successful coaches in the history of the program, elevating the Golden Eagles into the national spotlight. After posting a 7-20 record during his inaugural year ( ) at Marquette, Jabir guided his team to four consecutive winning seasons, two 20-plus winning seasons and three post-season appearances, including back-to-back bids to the NCAA Tournament. In , Marquette won the Great Midwest Conference Tournament, the first tournament championship in school history. This followed the campaign in which Jabir compiled a program-best 22-7 overall record and its first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Before his stint at Colorado, Jabir was at the helm of Providence College for six seasons, During his last three years, the Friars' record improved with each season and in his final season, the Friars finished overall and eighth of 14 schools in the prestigious Big East, its highest finish ever since the Big East went to a one division format. Jabir was a two-time Reebok/Great Midwest Conference Coach of the Year. Jabir is a 1984 graduate of Nazareth College in Rochester, New York, where he received a degree in English. He also earned his Masters degree in Student Personnel Administration from Buffalo State in Jabir and his wife Kathy have three children, Lauren, Shane and Jackson.

Additions to the UD Arena included suites and loge seats, and the new Time Warner Cable Flight Deck -- all overlooking Blackburn Court with a powerful view of all of the action. The Boesch Lounge received a face-lift along with new restrooms and upgraded concessions for the fans. Environmental graphics were added throughout the building that tell the story of the long tradition of Dayton basketball. Overall, the facility was modernized with an eye to the future while maintaining its steadfast roots as a landmark in the Dayton community. The Arena, built in 1969 for approximately $4.5 million without the use of public funds, has hosted 18 of the last 35 NCAA Men s Basketball Tournaments. That covers 65 games, fourth all-time behind Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium, New York's Madison Square Garden, and Salt Lake City's Huntsman Center. The Arena has also hosted six Women s NCAA games, including the 2003 East Regional. The Flyer Faithful proved that Dayton is a basketball town regardless of gender, as the two session drew the third-largest and seventh largest East Regional attendances. 5 DAYTON HIGHLIGHTS In , UD continued its improvement as a program and had one of the best seasons in school history at overall. The mark was the first winning record since the season and just the 19th time in the history of UD women s basketball. Cara Wright was named an Atlantic 10 First Team pick and led the Atlantic 10 Conference with 15 double-doubles and was the only player in the conference to average a double double on the year. Wright led the A-10 and ranked 22nd nationally in rebounding at 10.2 per game. She also ranked third in the conference in scoring (16.2 ppg), third in blocks (1.62 bpg) and second in field goal percentage (.520). Jennifer Strong earned A-10 Second Team honors for her first All-Conference honor after ranking second on the Flyer roster and 18th in the A-10 in scoring at 11.9 ppg. She started all 29 games and leads UD with 72 consecutive starts in a row at the end of the season. Strong scored in double figures during 20 of the final 23 games including a career-best 24 against Xavier on Jan. 19. UD has been one of the most improved teams in the nation over the past two seasons under the direction of Head Coach Jim Jabir. In his first season with the Flyers, Dayton won just three games. Last year, UD had the fourth best single-season turnaround in the nation with 12 wins overall for a nine-game improvement. The Flyers won 17 games in and tied for the second best improvement in the NCAA from the season to the campaign. Dayton s regular season record was not only one of the best turnarounds in the nation, but is among the most successful seasons in Flyer women s basketball history. UD hit the 17-win plateau for just the second time in its Division I history and the first time in 22 years. This season s win total matches the third most wins since the current Flyer seniors were in preschool ( season). Dayton was also 8-8 in Atlantic 10 regular season games this season, to place sixth in a conference that sent five teams to postseason play. UD added two new assistants to its coaching staff during the offseason as Susan Blauser and Melanie Halker came to Dayton. Blauser served as an assistant at Akron for two seasons. While at UA, She coordinated travel and team equipment while directing the Zips' community service activities. She also helped to recruit the first ever Street & Smith All-American to play at Akron. Blauser went to Akron from Boston University where she spent the season as an assistant coach. In addition to working with the post players, she served as the Terriers' recruiting coordinator and facilitated preseason conditioning and individual workouts. From she was a graduate assistant at Division II Clarion (Pa.) University where she earned a master's degree in rehabilitative sciences. Blauser created the "Eagles' Nest" youth fan club and was named the 2003 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Graduate Assistant of the Year. She was also instrumental in the development of All-America honoree Heather Cigich while at Clarion. A 2000 graduate of the University of Illinois, Blauser was first-team All-Big Ten and Illinois team MVP as a junior in 1999, leading the team in scoring at 17.1 points per game and was a nominee for the Naismith Player of the Year. A preseason All-America pick her senior season, she went on to earn second-team All-Big Ten accolades and was named to the WBCA Top 15 Senior All-Star Game after averaging 14.5 ppg and 7.9 rebounds per contest. The Fighting Illini (23-11) spent most of the season ranked in the top 10 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Blauser played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Rutgers where she was named to the Big East All-Rookie team in 1996 and the Rutgers Most Valuable Player in She was named the Scarlet Knights' Most Courageous Player both years on the roster and was a team captain as a sophomore. Halker served as an assistant coach at Indiana State for the past two years and led the Sycamores through their most successful seasons in program's history. Indiana State recorded a school-record 27 victories in and dominated the Missouri Valley Conference with a 16-2 record and the program's first ever outright MVC Regular Season title. The Sycamores participated in the 2006 Preseason and Postseason WNIT under Halker's direction. She also tutored the 2005 MVC Newcomer of the Year as well as the 2006 MVC Player of the Year. Halker had worked as an assistant coach for the previous two seasons with the Siena (N.Y.) women's basketball program. At her alma mater, she helped lead the Siena program to back-to-back MAAC Conference Championships in & In , Halker's Siena squad advanced to the second round of the WNIT, with a victory over Seton Hall. During her time with the Saints, Halker mentored the MAAC Player of the Year and recruited the 2005 MAAC Rookie of the Year. Following her graduation from Siena in 1999, Halker spanned the globe playing basketball before returning to Loudonville. From 1999 to 2000, she played in Luxembourg. In the fall of 2001, she made a brief stop to play in Israel. Halker is one of the greatest players ever to pull on a Siena jersey. She is the school's second all-time leading scorer with 2021 career points and is the school's alltime leading rebounder.
