The information contained in this packet will guide you in making sure that your responsibilities to students, families, school administration and district requirements are met. 3 Coach Checklist Review Coach Job Description (included in this packet). Review the Coach Code of Conduct (included in this packet). Review the following (included in this packet): o Policy & Regulation 1080 Automatic External Defibrillators o Policy 4116 Intramural Athletic Coaches o Policy Evaluation, Intramural Coaches o Regulation Concussion Training for Athletic Coaches o Policy Sudden Cardiac Arrest Determine the start date, after school practice schedule, equipment safety check/needs, competitions, and end date that meet the requirements on the job description. Keep a log of days and times that you actually meet with students. Send out communication to students/families via Principal to sign up for the sport. All students that sign up MUST have a parent/guardian complete and sign the following REQUIRED FORMS (included in this packet): o Permission to Participate o Sudden Cardiac Arrest Form o Concussion Consent Form Students that do not return ALL of these forms are NOT allowed to participate. Once all forms have been signed and returned, create a roster with student names. a copy of the roster to the Principal and School Nurse. Send all original signed forms and a copy of the roster to Sue Carpenter. Send out communications to families. (If you would like to set up and maintain a website for your sport, contact Sue Carpenter.) End of Season & Stipend Payment The Principal will complete the Coach Evaluation Form with input from participating families, if available. Complete the Coach End of Season Form on the District website under Faculty Resources, District Forms. You will receive your stipend once the evaluation and this form have been completed and approved. You will need to attach a copy of your meeting log to the online submission. Page 2

4 COACH CODE OF CONDUCT You have an important impact on a group of young children. Enthusiasm and excitement are contagious, direct it in positive ways. The goal of intramural sports is to provide the best opportunities for student-athletes to excel in teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline and moral character. The purpose is to provide each participant with experiences that will be positive, memorable, and help him or her develop the capacity for commitment to a cause, acceptance of responsibility and loyalty towards any chosen endeavor. The coach shall be aware that he or she has a tremendous influence, for either good or bad, on the education of the student-athlete and, thus, shall never place the value of winning above the value of instilling the highest ideals of character. The coach shall uphold the honor and dignity of their profession. In all personal contact with student-athletes, school administrators, and the public, the coach shall strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct. The coach shall take an active role in the prevention of drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse. The coach shall avoid the use of alcohol and tobacco products when in contact with players. The coach shall be informed of the rules of the sport and shall teach them to his or her team members. The coach shall exemplify standards consistent with good citizenship as well as good sportsmanship. The coach will maintain strict confidentiality at all times to guard, protect and ensure the rights, health, safety and physical well-being of participants. Before and after contests, coaches for the competing teams should meet and exchange cordial greetings to set the correct tone for the event. Page 3

5 PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT Participation in elementary intramural sports is a privilege that carries responsibility and commitment. Participating players represent BCS and other members of the student body, it is the player s responsibility to conduct himself or herself in a manner that is becoming to the athlete, his/her family, Bethany Community School and community. The player shall treat the coach, teammates and opponents with respect at all times. The player shall follow all rules of the school, team, sport and contest. The player shall play in a positive manner. Physically aggressive and verbally abusive behaviors will not be tolerated. The player shall care for all equipment as though it was their own personal property. The player shall demonstrate good citizenship and good sportsmanship at all times. Failure to follow these rules may result in disciplinary action. Page 4
