13 THE LAST GAME Chiefs 34, Titans 14 December 26, 2010 Arrowhead Stadium 65,606 TENNESSEE KANSAS CITY The Chiefs used an explosive 31-point first half en route to a win over the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium, pushing the Chiefs to a pristine 7-0 record at home. The game was highlighted by a 75-yard TD strike from QB Matt Cassel to WR Dwayne Bowe in the second quarter, while S Eric Berry registered a 54-yard INT return for a TD with less than a minute left in the first half. RB Jamaal Charles set a career high with a pair of TD catches. Kansas City registered 458 total yards of offense in the contest, tallying 306 yards through the air and 152 yards on the ground. The Chiefs limited Tennessee to 270 total yards and only 57 rushing yards. The Chiefs took the opening kickoff and marched 69 yards in seven plays to grab a 7-0 lead on a 14-yard TD pass from Cassel to Charles on a screen pass. Cassel opened the game with eight straight completions, while the Chiefs scored on their first four possessions. Tennessee moved the ball to the Chiefs 38-yard line where LB Andy Studebaker sacked QB Kerry Collins for a one-yard loss. Collins fourth-down pass fell incomplete, giving the Chiefs the ball back at their own 38-yard line. Cassel and company quickly moved into Titans territory highlighted by a 17-yard catch by TE Tony Moeaki. Cassel hit Charles coming out of the backfield for a five-yard TD to put the Chiefs up The Chiefs defense forced a three and out on Tennessee s next drive K Ryan Succop booted a 35-yard FG through the uprights to put the Chiefs up 17-0 with 11:31 left in the first half. Following a Tennessee punt, Cassel scrambled 16 yards for a first down. Moeaki hauled in an eight-yard pass, but an unnecessary roughness penalty against the Chiefs pushed the offense back 15 yards. Following the penalty, Cassel found Bowe for a 75-yard TD catch and run, putting the Chiefs up The two teams traded punts on their next possessions. On the first play after the Chiefs punt, Collins connected with WR Kenny Britt for a 53-yard TD to cut into the Chiefs lead, making the score 24-7 with 4:15 left in the first half. The Chiefs then moved the ball to the Tennessee 30-yard line. Succop attempted a 47-yard FG that fell just shy of the crossbar. On the Titans following possession, S Eric Berry stepped in front of Collins pass and returned it 54 yards for a TD to put the Chiefs up 31-7 at intermission. Succop hit a 42-yard FG after the break to give the Chiefs a 34-7 lead with 5:43 left to go in the third quarter. The Titans responded when Collins hit TE Jared Cook for 22 yards and a TD to cut the Chiefs lead to Tennessee was offsides as it attempted and recovered an onside kick, then proceeded to kick it deep. QB Brodie Croyle entered the game for Cassel and on his second pass, the ball was tipped into the air and intercepted by LB Will Witherspoon and returned to the Kansas City 48-yard line. A Collins pass on the ensuing Titans possession was intercepted by CB Brandon Carr as he ripped the ball away from Britt at the Chiefs nine-yard line. Cassel re-entered the game on Kansas City s next series. RB Thomas Jones had the ball stripped by DT Jason Jones and it was recovered by S Chris Hope at the Tennessee 19-yard line. The Chiefs defense forced a three and out and a Tennessee punt, effectively ending the contest. GAME NOTES C Casey Wiegmann extended his streak of consecutive snaps at center to 10,069 dating back to 9/23/01. The Chiefs have registered a six-game improvement in the win column compared to 2009, the biggest oneyear improvement in franchise history.
