The Braves and Ramblers will square off in the opening round of the Valley Tournament for the third time in four seasons with Loyola winning the two previous conference tournament matchups. Bradley swept the regular-season series from the Ramblers in , but the teams have split 10 meetings since Loyola joined the MVC for the season. Senior Leti Lerma, the MVC s top rebounder at 10.6 rebounds per game, has averaged 18.8 points and 10.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in the last five outings. (Brown County) points in 9 of last 13 Following The Braves Braves Women s about the braves First-year Bradley head coach Andrea Gorski has three starters and a total of eight letterwinners returning in from last year s team which came one point short of reaching the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament semifinals. The lone senior on the roster, 5-10 forward Leti Lerma is the team s active career scoring and rebounding leader. Lerma, who is 14th in the nation in rebounding, leads the MVC in rebounding at 10.6 boards per game to go with a team-best 11.6 ppg. In addition, she has averaged 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Lerma has had double-doubles in nine of her last 18 games and a conference-best 11 times this season. Junior guard Anneke Schlueter paced the Braves in scoring at 9.5 points per outing in Schlueter, who was the only player to start all 31 contests last year, is just the fourth Brave in the last 12 years to return after leading the team in scoring the previous season and is scoring 10.6 point per game this year. She hit her 100th career three-pointer against Drake (Jan. 13) and is now sixth in school history in three-point makes with 117.

Brewer scored a career-best 18 points to highlight the Feb. 5 home win against Indiana State and has averaged 9.6 points per game over the last 12 outings, while shooting 49 percent from three-point range during that span. Sophomore Vanessa Markert is the most experienced post player for the Braves and is collecting 10.9 points per outing. Over the last 13 games Markert has scored 12.9 points per game on nearly 50 percent shooting. Freshman Chelsea Brackmann started 11 of 18 MVC games and has averaged 7.6 points and 8.2 boards per game in MVC action. Since returning from an injury which sidelined her for the Dec. 2 game against Northern Illinois she has averaged 8.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 block per game (22 games). Bradley leads the MVC in free throw attempts per game (20.6), attempting almost 100 more free throws than any other Valley team and the Braves are second in rebounding (39.8 per game) in addition to ranking third in the league in rebounding margin (+2.2 per game). The coach Andrea Gorski (Bradley 92) is in her first season as head coach at her alma mater and sixth overall as a collegiate head coach. After the Redbirds made 8-of-15 from the field in the first quarter, the Braves held Illinois State to 15-of-43 (34.9 percent) over the final 30 minutes. Junior Danielle Brewer made all three of her threepoint attempts and had 14 points as she helped Bradley shoot a season-best 60 percent from beyond the arc. Junior Anneke Schlueter added 12 points of her own in the victory. MVC Tournament History Bradley is 6-25 (.194) all-time in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament after edging Wichita State in the opening round of last year s event before a loss to eventual champion Northern Iowa in the quarterfinals. The Braves are 4-9 (.308) since the Valley Tournament has been held at a neutral location and Bradley is 5-17 (.227) in neutral site tournament games all-time. Bradley has advanced out of the opening round four of the last seven times the Braves have played on the first day of the tournament and will be trying to make consecutive quarterfinal appearances for the first time since a five-year stretch ended in Bradley has reached the quarterfinals in seven of the 11 seasons the Valley Tournament has been a 10-team event. The Muscatine, Iowa, native came back the next day to tally 16 points, 13 rebounds, one assist and three steals as Bradley came one point short of its first Valley semifinal appearance since 2009 with one-point loss to UNI. Third time is the charm For the third consecutive year Bradley will enter a first-round MVC Tournament matchup looking to complete a three-game sweep. Last year the Braves topped Wichita State in the opening round to sweep the three games in from the Shockers. Since the MVC started holding the league tournament at a neutral site in , Bradley has played six of its 13 games against a team which it swept in the regular season. In fact, Thursday s contest against Loyola will be the eighth Valley tournament game since against a team the Braves swept the regularseason series. Bradley is 4-3 in the MVC Tournament against teams it swept during the regular season during that 10-year span. 4 taking care of the ball Part of Bradley s late season success, which saw the Braves go 5-5 in their last 10 games after a 6-13 start to the year, was due to cutting down on turnovers. Bradley had 15 or less turnovers a total of 13 times in , with six of those coming in the final 10 contests. The Braves are 5-1 in their last six outings in which they had 15 or fewer turnovers. Bradley averaged 14.8 turnovers per game in the final 10 games, compared to 16.9 turnovers in the first 19 outings. better the second time around The Braves have made a habit of posting a better record in the second half of league action and season was no different with Bradley going 4-5 the second time through the Valley after a 3-6 first half. This season s improvement marked the seventh consecutive year and 11th time in the last 12 seasons the Braves were better in the second half. Bradley has matched or exceeded its first-half MVC win total in each of the last 15 years dating back to the season, including this season. During the 15-year stretch, Bradley has tallied 44 wins in the first half of league play compared to 64 in the second half. The March 4 victory against Illinois State gave Bradley its best overall (11) and MVC (7) win totals since finishing the season with a overall record and 8-10 league mark. In addition, first-year head coach Andrea Gorski and the Braves posted the first three-game improvement in conference play under a first-year head coach in program history. going out with a bang Senior Leti Lerma saved one of the best performances of her career for her final home game as she highlighted Sunday s victory over I-74 rival Illinois State with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go with 13 rebounds, six assists and four steals. Lerma s performance was the first 20-point, 10-rebound, six-assist and four-steal effort by a Bradley player since Tammy Van Oppen s triple double performance against Southern Illinois on Dec. 31, Lerma has scored 10 points or grabbed 10 or more rebounds in all eight career games against Illinois State and has career averages of 10.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game vs. the Redbirds. Heating up from long range Junior Danielle Brewer has scored 10 or more points in three consecutive games and four of the last five. During that five-game stretch she has made 8-of-15 from three-point range and averaged 10.4 points per outing. In fact since her careerbest scoring output of 18 in the home win against Indiana State back on Feb. 5, Brewer has scored 10.5 points per game (8 games) and connected on 13-of-23 (56.5 percent) from beyond the arc. She was averaging 7.7 points and shooting 18.2 percent from three-point territory prior to the 10-game outburst. back with a vengeance Since missing the Feb. 12 game at Drake with an injury, senior Leti Lerma has returned to the lineup to average 18.8 points on 53 percent shooting, 10.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists and nearly two steals per game in the last five contests. Over her last nine games, she has scored 16.0 points per outing to go with 12.7 rebounds per game. Lerma has collected five of her 11 double-doubles during the nine-game stretch and finished one point or rebound short of three other double-doubles during that stretch. to markert we will go Sophomore Vanessa Markert has been one of Bradley s most consistent offensive threats down the stretch, scoring in double figures in three of the last four games (14.5 ppg) and five of the last seven (12.9 ppg). In fact in the second half of the MVC schedule, Markert topped 20 points twice and averaged 13.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.7 blocks per game. After scoring 10 or more points in seven of the first 16 games of , she reached double figures in scoring in nine of the last 13 outings and shot 49.3 percent from the field during that span. ending with a win Bradley capped the regular season with a victory for the first time since and will head into the MVC Tournament off a victory for just the second time in six years. Lerma breaks rebound mark Senior Leti Lerma became Bradley s career rebounding leader with her 800th career board in the Feb. 26 game at Southern Illinois and has her eyes set on the Braves single-season rebounding mark. Lerma s 818 career rebounds are 23rd in Missouri Valley Conference history. Currently 14th nationally in rebounds per game at 10.6 rpg, Lerma needs two boards for just the third 300 rebound season in school history and is 11 from breaking Bradley s season mark of 308. Six of Bradley s 11 losses in MVC play were a one-possession contest with less than two minutes remaining in regulation. In fact, eight of Bradley s 15 road games this year have had a margin of three points or less in the final two minutes of the contest and Bradley s three MVC wins by six points or fewer are the most since

5 Triple Threat Senior Leti Lerma has taken over as Bradley s leading scorer at 11.6 points per game, but sophomore Vanessa Markert has averaged 12.9 points per outing on nearly 50 percent shooting over the last 13 games to become the first Bradley underclassman with 300 points since Shronda Butts (363 points as a sophomore in ). Junior Anneke Schlueter scored her 300th point of the season in the final regular-season game to give the Braves three individuals with 300 or more points in a season for the first time since The last time Bradley had two non-seniors top 300 points in the same season since dishing the rock Freshman point guard Alona Johnson made 17 of her 20 starts in Missouri Valley Conference play and averaged 5.0 assists per game over the last four games which included a season-best eight assists at Evansville (Feb. 24). Johnson s 88 assists rank fourth among Bradley freshman marks and her 48 steals would be sixth among school freshman records. The last MVC freshman with at least 88 assists and 45 or more steals was Evansville s Dakota Weatherford in In fact, Johnson was the first Bradley player with 65 assists and 30 or more steals in MVC play since Skye Johnson in and joined Jen Brown ( ) as the only freshmen in school history with those numbers in league play. rare sweep The Feb home win against Missouri State gave Bradley the first regular-season series sweep of the Bears since and gave the Braves 10 wins in a season for the first time since In 34 years of sharing conference membership, Bradley had swept Missouri State just three times prior to The victory matched the longest home win streak (4) in the seven-year history of Renaissance Coliseum. freshman phenom Freshman Chelsea Brackmann turned in her own rebounding record in the Feb. 26 game at Southern Illinois. Brackmann had her second double-double of the year (10 points & 12 rebounds) off the bench as she broke the school freshman rebounding mark of 174 held by Heather Best ( ). Through games of March 5, Brackmann and Joyner Holmes of Texas, who was listed as the #1 recruit in the country last season, are the only freshmen in the nation to collect 225 points, 190 rebounds, 40 assists, 30 blocks and at least 15 steals. In fact, Brackmann is the only freshman in the MVC to tally those totals since at least the season. 1-2 Punch Junior Anneke Schlueter scored 18 of her gamehigh 22 points in the second half of the victory over Missouri State (Feb. 17) and senior Leti Lerma added 21 points of her own. Bradley had two players with 20 or more points in a game for the first time since Michelle Young (32) and Kelsey Budd (23) in a Nov. 8, 2013 home win against Illinois. The last time two Braves reached 20 points against a Valley opponent was an overtime loss to Evansville in the MVC Tournament semifinals on March 14, In addition, the last time two Bradley players scored 20 or more in the same regular-season MVC contest was at Creighton on March 2, 2006 (Devyn Flanagan - 23 points & Ashley Chelleen - 20 points). cleaning the glass Senior Leti Lerma turned in her seventh consecutive double-digit rebounding effort against Missouri State (Feb. 17) with 17 boards against the Bears. She collected her first career double-double with season-highs of 23 points and 19 rebounds with her 23 points the most in game by a Bradley freshman since the season. Brackmann tied the school record for rebounds in a game by a freshman with her 19 boards to match the record set by senior Leti Lerma during the season. Over her last 18 games she has averaged 13.7 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. For just the second time in program history, Bradley women s basketball will be coached by an alum with 1992 graduate and Bradley Hall of Fame member Andrea Gorski taking over the head coaching duties in April welcome back Bradley ushered in a new era in after former standout Andrea Gorski was named the ninth head coach in program history in April. A 1996 Bradley Hall of Fame inductee, Gorski was a firstteam All-Gateway Conference selection as a senior in and finished her career ninth in scoring on The Hilltop. Gorski spent the previous three seasons as Associate Head Coach at Missouri Valley Conference rival Southern Illinois ( ) and five seasons as head coach at Concordia University ( ) in Ann Arbor, Mich., where she led the Cardinals to three consecutive NAIA Tournament appearances and back-to-back Sweet 16 s. She held the Bradley career record for three-point makes (148) at the time of her graduation and still ranks fifth in school history. Chelsea Brackmann, a 6-1 forward from New Berlin, Wis., was an all-state selection as a senior after leading Eisenhower High School to a state championship in 2016 and was a two-time allstate pick. 19 A member of the school s Athletics Hall of Fame as one of the best players in the history of Bradley Women s Basketball, Andrea (McAllister) Gorski returned to The Hilltop when she was named the ninth head coach in program history in April Gorski returns to her alma mater from Missouri Valley Conference rival Southern Illinois, where she spent the last three years as associate head coach on former Bradley assistant Cindy Stein s staff. A native of Dearborn Heights, MI, Gorski boasts 20 years of coaching experience, including 17 years as a head coach at the collegiate and high school levels. Before joining Stein s staff at Southern Illinois, Gorski was head coach at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, MI, from In just five seasons, she became the winningest coach in the program s history. Inheriting a team which had never made the NAIA national tournament, Gorski s squads reached the NAIA Tournament each of her last three seasons and made consecutive Sweet 16 appearances in 2012 and During her tenure with the Cardinals, the two-time conference coach-ofthe-year selection led Concordia to a (.667) overall mark and (.674) conference record. In fact, Gorski s teams combined for an (.769) overall record and 48-8 (.857) league record in her last three seasons at the school. In addition to leading Concordia to its best national ranking in program history, Gorski s achievements included mentoring three first-team All-Americans and three conference players of the year. Gorski entered coaching shortly after graduating from Bradley in 1992 with a degree in business management and administration, serving as a graduate assistant for the Braves in before venturing into the private sector. She returned to coaching three years later, taking over as head coach of Ladywood High School in February She led her squad to a (.650) record in 12 seasons at the Livonia, MI, school and the Blazers claimed 11 district titles and a pair of conference championships during her prep coaching career. Gorski was a threetime Catholic League Coach of the Year and was selected as the state coach of the year in 2005 by the Associated Press, Detroit Free Press and Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan. A 1996 Bradley Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Gorski was a first-team All-Gateway Conference selection as a senior in Her sophomore season included a school-record 12 conference victories and her final three seasons mark the only time in program history the Braves finished in the top half of the league standings in three consecutive seasons. Gorski finished her career ninth in scoring at Bradley with 980 career points and she still is 18th all-time in scoring on The Hilltop. She shared the 1992 Charles Orsborn Award with baseball player Matt Quinn after averaging 14.7 points per game as a senior.
