7 OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER NOTES.... Best in the West: The Thunder enters the 213 playoffs having wrapped-up the most successful regular season in the Oklahoma City era. With a record of 6-22 (best in the OKC era), the Thunder heads into the postseason as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference after capturing a third straight Northwest Division title. Oklahoma City is now set to begin postseason play for a fourth consecutive season. In fact, Oklahoma City is now one of just two teams to currently maintain a.6 or better winning percentage in each of the last four seasons (San Antonio Spurs). Sweet 6: With a victory versus the Sacramento Kings in the final days of the regular season, the Thunder claimed a 6 win season for the first time in the Oklahoma City era. In the all-time history of the Thunder franchise, the team had recorded 6 or more wins three times previously, with the most recent occurrence coming during the season (61-21). To highlight the rarity of a 6 win season, in the past 2 seasons, 16 NBA franchises have failed to record a single season with 6 wins. Per the Elias Sports Bureau, the Thunder became the fourth youngest team to win 6 games in NBA history (weighted by minutes played). Better With Age: After the 27-8 season in which Oklahoma City won 2 games after a 3-29 start, the Thunder has proceeded to increase its winning percentage in each subsequent season. With a 6-22 record this season, Oklahoma City became just the second team in NBA history (Boston Celtics; ) to increase its winning percentage for five consecutive seasons (while maintaining a winning percentage of.7 or better in two of those seasons). The chart to the right illustrates the Thunder s improvement during each of the last five seasons. Season Winning % Current.732 (6-22) Secured # 1 seed (47-19) Advanced to NBA Finals (55-27) Advanced to Conference Finals (5-32) Lost in first round (23-59) Missed the playoffs Bouncing Back: Dating back to the start of the season, Oklahoma City has demonstrated a high level of resiliency in those games played immediately after a loss. This past season, the Thunder responded to losses by posting a 17-4 record in the ensuing game played after a loss. Since the start of the season, OKC is 32-7 in games played after a loss (best record in the NBA during this span). Winning Big: The Thunder not only posted the top spot in the Western Conference this season, but oftentimes Oklahoma City prevailed in convincing fashion. With the regular season now complete, Oklahoma City registered a league leading point differential of 9.2 points per game this past season {largest point differential since the 27-8 Celtics (1.3 point differential)}. Dating back to 198, only six teams have finished with a larger point differential greater than what the Thunder posted this past season (all six of those teams won NBA championships). During the season, OKC won 44 games by double figures (most in the NBA), including 19 wins of 2 or more. The 19 wins of 2+ is tops in the NBA Team Record Point Differential Bulls ( ) Bulls ( ) Bulls ( ) Celtics (27-8) Celtics ( ) Lakers ( ) this season and the most in the NBA in the last five seasons (the 27-8 Celtics won 22 games by 2+). The chart to the right illustrates those teams since 198 to finish a season with a point differential of 9.3 or greater. Point Made: With the NBA season now complete, the Oklahoma City Thunder found itself among the league leaders in a number of offensive categories. By averaging 15.7 points per game, the Thunder recorded the most posts scored in the Oklahoma City era and the most for the franchise since the season (15.9 ppg). The chart below highlights the Thunder s offensive rankings in a number of key categories. OKC Thunder Rankings Category Points per game (15.7) Field goal percentage (.481) Free throw percentage (.828) 3-point field goal percentage (.377) Point differential (9.2) NBA Rank 3 rd 3 rd 1 st 3 rd 1 st Getting Defensive: As one might expect, team defense is always critical to overall team success. During the season, Oklahoma City held the opposition 96.5 points on 42.5% shooting. With respect to opponent field goal percentage, OKC held their opponents to the second worst field goal percentage in the NBA. On the year, OKC went 21-1 when limiting the opposition to sub 4.% field goal shooting. The Thunder twice set an Oklahoma City era record this season by limiting the opponent to just 69 points (11/26 vs. CHA and 2/1 at PHX). On Feb. 24 th the Thunder held the Bulls to.291 shooting. The Bulls.291 shooting performance stands as an opponent-low for the Thunder in the Oklahoma City era (and at the time, it was the lowest FG shooting percentage during the season). OKC also set a Thunder era record by limiting the Blazers to just seven third quarter points on Apr. 12. Record of Success: Since the start of the 29-1 season, only the San Antonio Spurs (219) and the Miami Heat (217) have claimed more victories than the Oklahoma City Thunder (212). Since Kendrick Perkins made his Oklahoma City debut in the middle of the season on 3/14/11 at Washington, the Thunder has posted a record (.726). Team Basketball: After defeating the Sacramento Kings on Apr. 15, Oklahoma City improved to 28-3 this past season when five or more players score 1+ points (OKC started season 14- when five players scored 1 or more). OKC went a perfect 5- when 6+ players score in double-figures. Home Cooking: During the season, the Thunder went 34-7 at Chesapeake Energy Arena (4 th best home record in the NBA) while registering a 13. point per game differential on their home floor (largest home point differential in the NBA). Prior to the team s home finale, OKC had gone 32- when leading after three quarters (OKC lost the final game of the regular season at home after leading through three quarters). Before the Thunder s home loss vs. Brooklyn on Jan. 2, Oklahoma City had reeled off 12 consecutive wins at the Chesapeake Energy Arena (second longest streak in the OKC era; won 14 consecutive outings during season). During the season (26-7 at home), the Thunder finished behind only Miami (28-5) and San Antonio (28-5) in the race for the NBA s best home record. Turnovers or lack thereof: During the Thunder s win over the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this season (Mar. 5), the Thunder matched an all-time NBA record (which was set twice previously) by committing just two turnovers in the game. Prior to committing just two turnovers, five turnovers had been the previous all-time low for the OKC franchise. On the season, Oklahoma City went 17-3 when committing 12 or fewer turnover.

8 5/4/9: This past season Kevin Durant became a member of the exclusive 5/4/9 club by shooting better than 5.% from the field, 4.% from 3-point range and 9.% from the free throw line. Durant actually became just the second player in NBA history (Larry Bird; season) to average 28+ points while going 5/4/9 during the year. The chart below illustrates those players to finish a season going 5/4/9 (min 15 FT and 3FG attempts). To highlight Durant s efficiency, he is also on pace to become just the second player in NBA history (Charles Barkley; ) to average 28+ points on fewer than 18 field goal attempts. Including his triple-double on Mar. 3 at MIL (the sixth of his career), Westbrook posted a team-leading 23 double-doubles on the season. In 82 regular season games, Oklahoma City converted at an 82.8% clip (1,819-2,196) from the charity stripe. As a point of reference, the best all-time free throw shooting percentage for an entire season in NBA history is 83.2% (Boston Celtics; ) followed by the 22-3 Mavericks who shot 82.9% from the line. In addition to the Thunder s accuracy, Oklahoma City was effective in getting to the free throw line at a high rate. When the dust settled this past season, Oklahoma City attempted the second most free throws in the NBA (L.A. Lakers). During the Thunder s OT win against Dallas on 1/18, Kevin Durant went a perfect 21-of-21 from the free throw line. His performance represented the second best free throw shooting effort in NBA history (Dominique Wilkins went 23-of-23 from the line in The Thunder has now led the NBA in free throw shooting in each of the past three seasons and during the season, OKC shot a league-best 82.3% from the free throw line (5 th highest percentage in NBA history). During the 29-1 season Durant recorded 756 free throw makes, an all-time OKC Thunder franchise record and the 6 th most in NBA history for a single season. Durant s 756 free throws made were the most for a single-season since Michael Jordan recorded 833 free throw makes during the season. KD is the ONLY player in NBA history to convert 7+ free throws while shooting 9.% or better. Points Leader: With 2,28 points scored during the regular season, Kevin Durant led the NBA in total points scored for a fourth consecutive season. Durant joins Michael Jordan (11x), Wilt Chamberlain (7x), Kobe Bryant (4x) and George Gervin (4x) as the only players in NBA history to accomplish such a feat. During the season, Durant (28.1) finished behind only Carmel Anthony (28.7 ppg) in the race for the league s scoring title (based on points scored per game). During the 29-1 season, Durant became the youngest scoring champion in NBA history (21 years and 197 days). The chart to the right highlights those players in NBA history to record three or more consecutive scoring titles. Most Consecutive Scoring Titles (based on ppg) Michael Jordan Wilt Chamberlain Kevin Durant Michael Jordan George Gervin Bob McAdoo Neil Johnston George Mikan ers Connection: Once again this season, the Thunder s D-League affiliate, the Tulsa 66ers has been a vital part of the player development process for the Thunder franchise. During the season, five Thunder players (Reggie Jackson, Perry Jones, Jeremy Lamb, DeAndre Liggins & Daniel Orton) were assigned to the 66ers. The 66ers led the D-League by receiving a total of 34 assignments during the regular season (the next closest team had 14 assignments). Under the direction of first year head-coach Darko Rajakovic, the 66ers recently won six consecutive outings as the team finished the regular season with a record. Since the Professional Basketball Club, LLC. purchased the Tulsa 66ers in 28, Tulsa has seen 12 different Thunder players compete in at least one game as a member of the 66ers. Block Party: With regular season now in the rear view mirror, the Thunder once again became the top shot blocking team in the NBA. Led by Serge Ibaka s 3.3 blocks per game (led the NBA), OKC averaged 7.61 blocks per game this season. After leading the league in total blocked shots for a third consecutive season, Ibaka joins Dikembe Mutombo ( ) as the only other player to accomplish such a feat in NBA history. During the season, the Thunder not only led the NBA in blocked shots (8.17 bpg), but Oklahoma City recorded the highest block per game total in the NBA in nearly 2 years. The Denver Nuggets team (8.37 bpg) was the last group to average more blocks than the OKC team. During , Ibaka led the NBA while setting an all-time franchise record with a 3.65 block per game average (most blocks per game since Theo Ratliff recorded 3.74 bpg during the 2-1 season). To put a bit more perspective on Ibaka s accomplishment; with a total of 241 blocks during the season, Ibaka recorded only 19 fewer blocks than the entire New Jersey Nets team that year. During the Thunder s game versus the Nuggets on 2/19/12, Ibaka set a franchise record by blocking 11 shots en route to his first career triple-double. OKC is Fan Friendly: As was the case in , the Thunder once again sold out each and every home game during the season. The Thunder has now registered sellouts in 88 consecutive regular season home outings. Fans in attendance this year once again enjoyed the improvements made to the Chesapeake Energy Arena as part of a taxpayer funded initiative passed in March 28. Thanks to the publically funded initiative, the team s arena boasts a state-of-the art scoreboard, new terrace suites, an updated main concourse with new concession stands, a new Sunset Lounge on the Club Level and a first-class courtside club.

9 Road Warriors: With the Thunder road schedule now complete, OKC once again found success out on the road this season. After closing the year with four straight road victories, OKC posted a record on the road this season. With a road winning percentage of.634, OKC registered the second best road mark in the NBA (Miami). Earlier this past year, the Thunder amassed a 3-point road victory on Dec. 29 at Houston (largest road win for OKC since winning by 41 at LAC on 4/15/9). During the season, the Thunder also found a high level of success playing away from Chesapeake Energy Arena. In 33 road games, the Thunder registered a mark (3rd best road record in the NBA behind Chicago and San Antonio). The Thunder was one of only THREE Western Conference teams (DEN & SA) to boast a winning road record. Just Another Back-2-Back: During the season, the Thunder competed in 15 sets of back-to-backs. In those back-to-back pairings, OKC finished the year with an 11-4 record on the first night to go along with a 1-5 mark on the second night of the club s back-to-back sets. On the season, Oklahoma City registered sweeps in seven of their back-to-back match-ups. During the season, the Thunder competed in 18 sets of back-tobacks (in addition to the team s lone back-to-back-to-back) while recording nine sweeps of those back-to-backs in addition to the club s sweep of their only back-to-back-to-back. Oklahoma City posted a 15-4 mark on the first night and a 14-6 record on the second or third night of a back-to-back during the season. Three for All: With the season now complete, Oklahoma City finished the year as the third best 3-point shooting team in the NBA (37.7%; 598-1,588 3FGs). Thunder players Kevin Martin (ranked 1 th in NBA; 42.6%), Thabo Sefolosha (ranked 16 th in NBA; 41.9%) and Kevin Durant (ranked 19 th in NBA; 41.6%) ranked among the top 3-point shooters in the NBA this past season. During the Thunder s victory over the Clippers on 1/22, the Thunder set an Oklahoma City era record by converting 15 made 3-point field goals. On two occasions this season Kevin Martin registered six made 3- point field goals (one shy of the OKC era record). Boards are the Barometer: As one might expect, Oklahoma City has traditionally found its greatest success when outrebounding the opposition. This past season, OKC went 44-8 when outrebounding the opposition (16-14 when OKC failed to outrebound opponent) and a perfect 12- when outrebounding the opponent by 1 or more. During the season, Oklahoma City went 31-5 when outrebounding the opponent (12-1 when outrebounding the opponent by 1 or more). Conversely, OKC failed to outrebound their opponent in 14 of the team s 19 losses last season. Dynamic Duo: With a record of this past season when Westbrook and Durant each score 2+ points, the Thunder continues its run of success with the tandem of Durant and Westbrook leading the way. For a second consecutive season, the Durant and Westbrook duo became the highest scoring pair of teammates in the NBA (averaged 51.3 points per game). The two players combined to score a total of 51.6 points per game during the season to become the highest scoring duo in franchise history (surpassing their own previous record of 48.2 ppg during 21-11). Earlier this season, the pair combined to score 77 points (Durant and Westbrook combined to score 47 of the Thunder s 51 second half points) on 1/14, before combining to score 83 points four nights later on 1/18 against Dallas (third highest combined scoring performance for the pair). Durant and Westbrook combined to score a career-best 91 points on 2/19/12 (the 91 combined points is a franchise record). Triple Threat: In just 27 minutes of action, Kevin Durant recorded his third triple-double of the season (had never registered a triple-double in his career prior to the season) on Feb. 27 vs. New Orleans with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 1 assists. Russell Westbrook also recorded a tripledouble this season on 3/3 at Milwaukee (The Thunder is 6- when Westbrook records a triple-double in his career). Thunder All-Stars Shine Bright: Playing in their third and fourth All-Star games, respectively, Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant helped lead the Western Conference All-Stars to a victory in Houston this past year. Kevin Durant led all scorers with 3 points on 13-of-24 shooting. In his first four All-Star appearances, Durant has now scored a total of 115 points (most in NBA history through a player s first four All-Star appearances). Durant also became the first player in NBA history to score 3+ points in three consecutive All-Star outings. Russell Westbrook, meanwhile, registered 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go along with four rebounds and three assists in 18 minutes of action. Standing Tall: In his first season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Hasheem Thabeet finished the season shooting a team-best 6.4% from the field (64-16 FGs). Thabeet, the tallest player in the NBA (7 3 ), recorded his first career double-double this past season after registering a career-best 13 points to go along with 1 rebounds during the Thunder s win versus Charlotte on 11/26. During the season, Thabeet scored in double figures on three occasions (Thabeet had accomplished such a feat three times prior in his career before the season). A November to Remember: The Thunder kicked-off the season by setting an Oklahoma City era record after compiling 13 wins in the month of November. The 13 November wins is tied for the second most in all-time franchise history (the team went 14-3 in Nov. of 1996). Through the first month of the season, Oklahoma City finished tied with San Antonio for the most wins in the NBA. Meanwhile, OKC led the NBA during the month of November with nine home victories. Kevin Durant was named the NBA s player of the month award for October/November after averaging 26.5 points, 8.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. 3 it is: For a seventh time this past season, the Oklahoma City tandem of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook each proceeded to score 3-plus points in the same game on Mar. 18 at Dallas (OKC 5-2 this season when the pair scores 3+ points). Since Durant and Westbrook began playing together during the 28-9 season, the Thunder has posted a 19-7 record when the duo each scores 3 or more in the same game. In fact, the 26 games in which both players score 3 or more, is tops in the NBA during this span. Awfully Good in OT: Dating back to the start of the season, the Oklahoma City Thunder has been incredibly successful in overtime affairs. Despite falling in OT to the Grizzlies on Mar. 2, Oklahoma City is 4-2 in overtime affairs this season and 15-5 in overtime games during the past three seasons. The 15 OT wins is the most in the NBA during this span. Last season, the Thunder started 3- in overtime games before falling to the L.A. Lakers in double overtime on 4/22/12. During the season, the Thunder became just the FIFTH team in NBA history to win eight overtime games in a single season (8-2). OKC set an all-time franchise record by winning five straight overtime games to start the season and the club s eight OT wins are the most in the NBA since 22, when the Detroit Pistons went 8- in their overtime contests. During the season, OKC captured the franchises first-ever triple-overtime victory (12/1/1) against New Jersey (the OKC franchise was previously -4 all-time in triple overtime games). 1 points/5 percent: Prior to the Thunder s game vs. New Orleans on Dec. 12 in which OKC was limited to 92 points, the Thunder had scored 1 or more points in 12 consecutive games. The 12 game run of 1+ points was the longest such streak for the franchise since the season (scored 1+ points in 19 consecutive games). On the season, OKC posted a 5-8 record when hitting the 1 point plateau. Another impressive streak worth noting came to an end on Feb 12 at Utah. Prior to falling to the Jazz, OKC recorded a perfect 18- record on the season when shooting 5.% from the floor and an impressive 43- when shooting 5.% or better dating back to the season. The Thunder s 43- streak had been the longest in the NBA. OKC finished the season with a record of 27-2 when shooting 5.% or better.
