3 PRIMETIME SPORTS - PRETTY IN PINK CONTEST What is the purpose of the Pretty in Pink Contest? The Tournament for Hope is not your average select basketball tournament. The focus of this tournament is not basketball. It is awareness and education! We want the girls to become empowered to educate their communities about a devastating disease that strikes 1 in 8 women. The Tournament for Hope organizers and sponsors see basketball as more than a game: it is a vehicle for hope, education and empowerment. We are asking the girls to be creative and have fun with this contest! While we hope the girls compete, play their hardest, and excel in their games, we want all participants and attendees to understand the real purpose of the tournament. By being pretty in pink, the girls will fill the gyms with a reminder of breast cancer awareness, and bettering the Austin community by helping to make the Breast Care Center at SMCA a reality!! The teams and coaches are being asked to show their support for breast cancer awareness by wearing as much pink as possible. Of course the parents and families should wear pink as well but, they will not be eligible for the contest. What can the girls wear to be pretty in pink? The girls should have fun with this! Here are some ideas of what teams can do to incorporate pink: hair ties (no metal), hair ribbons (no metal), socks, shoelaces, undershirts, warm-up shirts, t-shirts, sweatbands, headbands, knee pads, elbow sleeves, mouth guards, towels, water bottles, etc.. What cannot be worn to be pretty in pink? We do not want teams buying new uniforms, shoes, gym bags, or backpacks just for this contest. Any of these items will not be considered valid when judging this contest. We want this to be about fun and creativity for the girls and not about how much money is spent. Also, general safety rules apply for the contest. Girls cannot have any hard accessories in their hair or metal in any hair ties. Jewelry is also not permitted. How many winners will there be? Each division will have one winner. Who will be judging the Pretty in Pink contest? The Volunteer Officials and Gym Directors at each of the gyms will be judging the contest on Saturday, June 11th. Team Sportsmanship and Spirit will also be a considering factor. Their votes will be the sole and final determinant of winners in each division. What will the winners receive? The winners will receive a Tournament for Hope Pretty in Pink Trophy. When will the winners be notified? Winners for each division will be notified after that team s last scheduled game on Sunday Afternoon.

4 What is the shoe challenge? EASTBAY SPORTS - SHOE CHALLENGE We challenged all participating teams to raise as much money for this cause as possible. Over the past three years this has been a huge success, raising over $29,000 with the shoe challenge alone. We hope to meet or exceed last year s total of over $4,600 by asking each TFH participating team to raise as much money as possible! The team who raises the highest dollar amount will receive the grand prize of women s basketball shoes for each team member, with the second highest total receiving 2nd place, and so on. What are the prizes? First Place (10) Women s Basketball Shoes from Eastbay Second Place - (12) Black Nike Backpacks from Eastbay Third Place - (12) Black Nike Gym Sacks from Eastbay Who can the teams ask to donate money? Anyone! We encourage all the girls on the teams to reach out to everyone they know for donations. This means grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, friends, local businesses, etc. This will be largely an campaign. How can people donate money? When your team registers for the Tournament for Hope, a donation link specifically for your team will be created. You can send out this link to your potential donors, who may then make an on-line donation. Visa and Mastercard are accepted credit cards. How will the winners be determined? Only donations received by 6pm on Sunday, June 11th will be considered for the contest; donations received after this time, while gratefully received, will not be considered in determining contest winners. The highest dollar amount, as tallied with credit card donations and cash or check donations will be used when awarding the prizes. Please understand it will take some time to accurately tally the results. The organizers will announce the final winners by Thursday, June 15th. The winners will be notified by a representative of BSN Team Sports. (Please note that shoe orders may take up to 8 weeks to be processed and delivered.) We ask that all teams keep in mind, that while the prizes are wonderful gifts and serve as a great incentive, the primary goal of the contest is good-natured competition, and to raise as much money as possible for the Breast Care Center at Seton Medical Center Austin. We want to show girls that they can make a difference in the lives of people in their community, and ask all involved to remember a spirit of sportsmanship.
