LFSN Radio (90.9 FM "The Light") THE STARTING 5 - LIBERTY'S TOP STORYLINES Big South co-leader Liberty (8-7, 3-0 Big South) will begin a two-game North Carolina road swing Saturday afternoon at Gardner-Webb (12-3, 2-1 Big South). The Lady Flames have won a season-best three games in a row. However, Liberty will look to improve upon its 2-5 road record in. The Lady Flames have suffered their first Big South setback of the season at Paul Porter Arena during each of the last two years. To avoid that on Saturday, Liberty will need to win in Boiling Springs for the first time since Feb. 5, 2015 and snap GWU's seven-game home winning streak. Liberty sophomore Keyen Green has hit her stride in Big South play, scoring 16.3 ppg on 64.3 percent field goal shooting. She averages a double-double (16.0 ppg, 10.5 rpg) against Gardner-Webb in her career. Lady Flames junior KK Barbour starred at GWU last season, hitting three game-tying free throws with 4.9 seconds left in regulation as part of a 17-point effort. The lone upperclassman in Liberty's starting lineup has posted back-to-back 10-rebound efforts. GARDNER-WEBB Liberty has suffered its first Big South loss of the season at Paul Porter Arena for two straight years. The Lady Flames dropped their Big South opener, 61-57, at Gardner-Webb on Dec. 2, Last season, Liberty started 3-0 in the Big South before falling, in overtime, Jan. 15, 2017 in Boiling Springs. The home team has won four straight meetings. The Lady Flames are seeking their first win at Paul Porter Arena since a triumph on Feb. 5, Gardner-Webb is 8-1 at home this year, including a current seven-game winning streak at Paul Porter Arena. Twelve of the 21 all-time matchups between Liberty and Gardner-Webb have been decided by 10 points or fewer. Last season, the teams' two contests were decided by a total of five points. The Runnin' Bulldogs are led by senior guards Tierra Huntsman and Alexus Hill, who have combined to win three Big South Player of the Week awards this season. Huntsman leads the conference with 17.3 ppg, while Hill ranks third at 15.5 ppg. Gardner-Webb Head Coach Rick Reeves served as Liberty's head coach for nine seasons ( through ), leading the Lady Flames to their first three Big South Conference titles (1997, 1998 and 1999). LAST MEETING WITH GARDNER-WEBB FEBRUARY 4, 2017 LIBERTY 66, GARDNER-WEBB 63 LYNCHBURG, VA. (VINES CENTER) The fourth quarter featured three ties and six lead changes before Lela Sellers' corner three-pointer with 2:04 remaining gave the Lady Flames the lead for good. Keyen Green scored 12 of her 16 points after halftime, while Ola Makurat contributed 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds and Sellers finished with 10 points. Kiera Currie paced the Runnin' Bulldogs with 20 points and five three-pointers. Tierra Huntsman had 13 points and five assists but missed a three-pointer at the final buzzer. PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES Liberty has survived a grueling travel schedule to begin the season, playing 11 road/neutral games in seven different states (Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia). The Lady Flames spent 11 nights in seven different hotels in the 17 days between Nov and have racked up 18 total hotel nights this season. Liberty has flown through 11 different airports already this season, including Atlanta (during the Dec. 17 power outage), Charlotte, Charlottesville, Des Moines, Detroit, Dulles, Hartford, Kansas City, Lynchburg, O'Hare and Raleigh/Durham. Due to the Dec. 17 power outage at the Atlanta Airport, a majority of the Liberty travel party had to bus 800 miles from Atlanta to Kansas City the next day. LAST YEAR AT PAUL PORTER ARENA Gardner-Webb handed Liberty its first Big South loss of the season with an overtime victory, Jan. 15, 2017 at Paul Porter Arena. The game is the Lady Flames' most recent overtime outing. Alexus Hill led the way for GWU, scoring 21 of her 27 points after halftime. KK Barbour hit three free throws with 4.9 seconds remaining in regulation as part of a 17-point outing, sending the game to OT. Keyen Green (16 points, 16 rebounds) and Kierra Johnson-Graham (12 points, 12 rebounds) both notched double-doubles for the Lady Flames. LADY FLAMES IN THE BIG SOUTH Liberty and High Point are the only two remaining unbeaten teams in Big South Conference play, sporting 3-0 records. The Lady Flames are looking to start 4-0 in conference play for first time since , when Liberty won its first eight Big South contests. Liberty is off to a good start as it looks to win 10+ Big South games for the 19th consecutive season. The Lady Flames are also chasing their 16th Big South regular-season title, but their first since the season. ON THIS DATE: Liberty is 8-4 all-time on Jan. 13, having won five consecutive games played on the date. JAN. 13 The Lady Flames are 5-1 on Jan. 13 under Carey Green and have not lost on the date since his first season, when Liberty suffered a home setback to Elon on Jan. 13, Liberty is all-time in January, including under Carey Green and 3-0 this season. 3

Green paced the Lady Flames in points (12.3 ppg) and rebounds (8.1 rpg) in , earning Big South Freshman of the Year and VaSID State Rookie of the Year honors. This season, Green is No. 2 in the Big South in FG % (56.9) and earned Roo Holiday Classic all-tournament team honors. STELLAR SOPHOMORES Keyen Green Keyen Green, Iva Ilic and Ola Makurat all made the Big South All-Freshman team a year ago, making Liberty the only NCAA Division I women's basketball team in the nation with a trio of all-freshman honorees in Adding in the production of classmates Kierra Johnson-Graham and Lela Sellers, the Lady Flames' five sophomore returnees accounted for 58.9 percent of the team's scoring last season and are scoring 51.7 percent of the points in. MEMORABLE SUMMER Iva Ilic Junior Molly Reagan (left) and senior Sheana Vega (right) both graduated with bachelor's degrees in criminal justice in May. The following month, they traveled to Kenya together on an Athletes in Action basketball tour. MEMORABLE SUMMER, PART 2 Sophomore Iva Ilic represented Croatia in the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship Division B during July in Eilat, Israel, helping her team capture the bronze medal. 4 Ola Makurat INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR The Lady Flames' roster features three foreign-born players, including sophomores Iva Ilic (Croatia) and Ola Makurat (Poland) and junior transfer Melis Ucar (Turkey). This marks Liberty's most international players since (Roli-Ann Nikagbatse of Germany, Karolina Piotrkiewicz of France and Egle Smigelskaite of Lithuania). FABULOUS FRESHMAN Ashtyn Baker has opened her collegiate career in style, earning Big South Freshman of the Week honors on Nov. 13, Dec. 4 and Dec. 27. Baker is following in the footsteps of teammates Keyen Green and Ola Makurat, who combined for nine honors in AUTOMATIC OLA Ashtyn Baker Ola Makurat Sophomore Ola Makurat made 25 straight free throw attempts between Feb. 4-Dec. 2, She finished one away from Jaymee Fisher-Davis' program record of 26 in a row. 5 LADY FLAMES BY THE NUMBERS 3: Three former Lady Flames have gone on to play in the WNBA, including Katie (Feenstra) Mattera, Megan (Frazee) Leuzinger and Avery Warley-Talbert. 4: Liberty has won 10+ conference games for 18 consecutive seasons entering. The Lady Flames are one of only four NCAA Division I teams with an active streak of 18 or more seasons with double-digit victories in the same conference, along with Chattanooga (Southern), Green Bay (Horizon) and Stanford (Pac-12). 6: Carey Green is the sixth head coach in program history. The Lady Flames are outscoring opponents in the fourth quarter this season by an average of 6.4 points per game. WANTED FOR THEFT Liberty came up with a season-high 16 steals at Duke on Dec. 29, the most by any Blue Devils opponent this season. It also marked the Lady Flames' most steals in a game since Jan. 9, 2012 vs. Campbell. Liberty is averaging a Big South-best 10.1 steals per game in.
