I has been our prvlege n years pas o work wh more han 200 alened arss o produce CowParade Samford (2000), ART-o-Mobles (2001), Samford Safar (2003), I s Regnng Cas & Dogs (2010) and Horsn Around n Samford Downown (2012) n Samford Downown. These engagng exhbs were an enormous success aracng housands of people o he downown durng he summer o see he beauful sculpures ha showcased he breadh of alen n our local ar communy. Samford wll once agan brng he alen of he ar communy no he downown for hs year s oudoor ar exhb, Sree Seas n Samford Downown. Arss are nved o subm desgns for he benches, whch wll be on exhb all summer n Samford Downown. Desgn submssons wll be revewed by a jury, whch wll selec a pool of fnal desgns for sponsor revew and selecon. The benches wll arrve as unpaned wooden sculpures ready o be ransformed by seleced arss. A he end of he exhb, he benches wll be auconed and a poron of he proceeds wll go o a chary, ye o be deermned. To dae, our four prevous evens rased almos a half a mllon dollars for seleced chares. Arss whose desgns are seleced by a sponsor for exhbon wll be provded wh a blank bench form o pan, decorae, sculp, ec. One week afer he openng of he exhb, each ars whose work s on dsplay wll be pad a $ honorarum. Specfcaons See Addendum A The benches are manufacured from souhern yellow pne (sea) and oudoor MDF (back of bench) and can be alered by arss as long as hey reman srucurally nac. The surface of each bench s fnshed so ha can be prmed and paned. Arsc Desgns

2 The ars may pan, sculp, ransform and adorn he bench as he or she wshes, bu he srucural negry of he bench mus no be compromsed, and he mechansms for aachng he bench o s concree bases canno be alered or obsruced. The vewng publc wll have full access o he benches, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Therefore, benches should be desgned and execued wh publc accessbly, safey, weaher and possble vandalsm aken no consderaon. In pas year s arss have used sandard ar acrylc pans and prmers and varnshes o fnsh he sculpures. However, easly damaged maerals, lke fabrcs and papers, as well as ems ha are easly removed, should be srcly avoded. Samford's benches can be paned n an endless varey of paerns, colors and fnshes. Arss can use mosac les, wood, n and oher maerals. They can reshape he benches o dance or play he pano. The DSSD and he publc wll delgh n hese flghs of fancy. However, you may no use pershable maerals, lke coon, ulle, feahers, and velve, whch have proved o be subjec o he elemens and vandalsm. Sree Seas n Samford Downown submssons mus be of durable maerals. In addon, f an ars s sculpng or oherwse decorang a horse, a narrave of he durably of hs desgn mus be ncluded. As shown on he applcaon oulne drawng, benches are avalable n one syle only. Selecon Process Arss may subm up o four desgns, and wll be pad he honorarum for each desgn seleced for producon ha yelds a fnshed, approved bench for fnal exhbon. The selecon jury wll conss of noed members of Samford s ar/culural communy. The jury wll revew all he applcaons receved before he submsson deadlne. Those arss whose desgns were no seleced by he jury wll be nofed by mal. The approved desgns wll be presened o he exhb sponsors who may selec desgns from among hese submssons, or may drecly commsson work from arss of her own choosng. Once a sponsor selecs a desgn for producon, he ars wll be nofed

3 mmedaely. Please bear n mnd, ha he sponsor selecon process wll be ongong, so arss may have as much as 6 weeks or as lle as 2 weeks o fnsh her sculpures. Producon of Sree Seas n Samford Downown Arss may execue her desgns n eher her own sudos or n sudo spaces accessble o he publc, locaed n Samford Downown. These publc sudos wll showcase area arss as hey execue her produc. The arss who have worked n he publc sudos n pas years enjoyed he camaradere. If you prefer o work n your own sudo, you mus arrange your own ransporaon o ge he unpaned bench o your sudo and lkewse, he fnshed produc, back o he DSSD s desgnaed warehouse.
