1 Criteria for the Awards of, High Achievement and Service Students receiving colours will generally have been a member of the top team or group for at least two years, having made a full commitment to all practice sessions and events. Students receiving will have represented the school in that activity, if there is the opportunity to do. All students awarded or High Achievement must have shown a high degree of leadership, commitment and responsibility, as well as dedication, loyalty and appropriate behaviour. Achievement of points will act as a guideline to the awarding of, Service and High Achievement. Final decisions on the awards of and High Achievement will be made by the Committee consisting of representatives from SMT, Sport Department, Head of PE and Health, Music, Debating, Drama as appropriate. Student heads of Music, Drama, Debating, Sport may be invited to attend for part of the meeting. Umpiring/bench duties etc that are required by teams to ensure their competition runs smoothly are expected of all members of the teams/groups. are awarded to students in Year 11 and above. Junior will be awarded to students from Y7-10 who have reached exceptional levels of achievement in their chosen field. Service will be awarded to students who have made a valuable and extensive contribution to sport or cultural activities at Marsden. Points gained by a student can only be used for either or Service not both. However, students may be awarded both and Service if they meet the criteria for both. To receive awards, students must be a current student at the school at the time of the presentation of the awards.

2 SCHOOL COLOURS, SERVICE COLOURS CERTIFICATES OF HIGH ACHIEVEMENT, and HONOURS BARS, Service,Certificates of High Achievement and Honours Bars are awarded annually in recognition of Cultural and Sporting achievements associated with the school. are awarded for excellence and outstanding achievement. In most cases the student will have represented the School in the top team/group for two or more years and must be studying at Year 11 or above. The student must have been continually committed to the team/group in both practices and competition and must always display good team spirit. Service Service are awarded to students who have made an outstanding contribution to the sports or cultural programme. This may be over one or more years during their time at Marsden. Certificates of High Achievement Certificates of High Achievement are awarded to girls who have reached a high standard in their chosen activity but who have not fulfilled all the criteria for to be awarded. Junior Junior are awarded to students in Years 7-10 for excellence and outstanding achievement. The student must have been continually committed to the team/group in both practices and competition and must always display good team spirit. Honours Bars Honours Bars are awarded to any student in years 7 13 who is selected in a NZ, age group, or development team that competes in an international event. Selection in a NZ Squad that does not actually play a fixture or perform may not earn an honours bar.

Reaching Inter-School Zone semifinals 1 point 4. Winning Inter-school Regional final 1 point 5. Winning NZ Secondary Schools final 2 points 6. Selection as a Wellington representative 1 point 7. Selection in any external development/promising players squad or tournament team 1 point 8. Winning 80% of Inter-School matches as an individual (i.e. singles matches) 1 point 9. Selection as a National representative 6 point 10. Coaching junior players 1 point 11. Gain Level 1 Coaching 1 point

7 MUSIC High Achievement 5 points 7 points NB Music awards are made in the various disciplines i.e. choir, symphony etc 1. Merit Pass or Higher in a Music Examination up to grade V (ABRSM or Trinity College) NB Credit can only be obtained if the student is contributing to some aspect of school music 2. Pass in a Music Examination Grade V and above (ABRSM or Trinity College) NB Credit can only be obtained if the student is contributing to some aspect of school music. If a student gains Merit/Distinction/Honours pass a further ½ point is available 3. Pass in a Diploma Practical Music Examination (ABRSM or Trinity College). NB Credit can only be obtained if the student is contributing to some aspect of school music 4. Regular membership of a school music group that has performed at least twice in a public concert. E.g. Senior chamber Choir, School Orchestra, Jazz Combo, Swing Band, Handbells etc 1 point 1 point 2 points 1 point per group (max 2 points) 1 point 5. Placing in the first 3 in a regional contest of some standing e.g. Westpac Trust Schools Chamber Music Contest 6. Winning the Netball Wellington Saturday competition (in own grade) 1 point 5. Reaching the top 4 in the Lower North Island Tournament 1 point 6. Winning the Lower North Island Tournament 2 points 7. Reaching the top 4 in the National Secondary Schools Tournament 1 point 8. Selection as a Wellington representative 1 point 9.
