7 THE LAST TIME Bills 16, Chiefs 10 December 13, 2009 Arrowhead Stadium 68,668 BUFFALO KANSAS CITY Despite 181 yards from scrimmage from RB Jamaal Charles, including an electrifying 76-yard TD run, the Bills held on for a win at Arrowhead. Kansas City s defense forced three turnovers, but the Chiefs committed four turnovers themselves. KC held Buffalo to 73 net passing yards, but relinquished 200 rushing yards in the loss. LB Mike Vrabel registered the game s first big play as he sacked QB Ryan Fitzpatrick on the Bills second possession of the game and forced a fumble that was recovered by DT Ron Edwards at the Buffalo nine-yard line. But the Bills rebuffed the Chiefs scoring opportunity when QB Matt Cassel was tackled on fourth and goal at the one-yard line. On Buffalo s next offensive play, RB Marshawn Lynch rattled off a 47-yard run to set up Fitzpatrick s nine-yard TD pass to WR Terrell Owens giving Buffalo a 7-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter. On the Chiefs next possession, a replay review upheld that WR Chris Chambers was short on third and three from the five-yard line, setting the stage for a 21-yard K Ryan Succop FG that made the count 7-3 in favor of the Bills with 10:25 left in the first half. On Buffalo s ensuing possession, CB Brandon Carr stripped the ball from TE Shawn Nelson and recovered it at the Buffalo 49-yard line, but the Chiefs were forced to punt. Buffalo would score on a 41-yard FG from K Rian Lindell to up their lead to 10-3 before halftime. KC s defense forced the Bills to go three and out on their opening possession of the second half. But on the Chiefs initial play from scrimmage, Cassel was picked off by CB Terrence McGee at the Kansas City 27-yard line. Chiefs CB Brandon Flowers returned the favor, intercepting Fitzpatrick in the end zone. Again, the Chiefs couldn t move the ball after the turnover, and the Bills extended their lead 13-3 with a 24-yard Lindell FG with 3:10 left in the third quarter. On the Chiefs next play from scrimmage, Charles exploded for a career-long 76-yard TD run to narrow the Buffalo lead to with 2:53 left in the third stanza. He finished the game with 143 rushing yards. After a Kansas City punt, Lindell misfired on a 51-yard FG attempt, giving the ball back to the Chiefs at their own 41-yard line. Two plays later, a Cassel pass went off the hands of Chambers and into the arms of LB Paul Posluszny, who returned the ball to the Kansas City 35-yard line. Charles appeared to strip Posluszny on the return, but instant replay was unable to verify that the ball was recovered by Kansas City. On Buffalo s ensuing drive, the Bills were able to register another FG from Lindell, this time from 36 yards out as Buffalo took a lead with 8:01 left in the game. After Kansas City orchestrated a 13-play drive that put the Chiefs at Buffalo s 21-yard line with 3:01 to play, a third and 10 pass slipped through the hands of Chambers inside the Buffalo five-yard line. Cassel s subsequent pass on fourth and 10 was tipped and ultimately intercepted by S Jairus Byrd. Kansas City s defense forced another three and out to give the Chiefs one last possession at their own 27-yard line with 1:00 remaining. Kansas City s final desperation heave was thwarted as Cassel s pass was intercepted by S George Wilson in the end zone as time expired, sealing Buffalo s victory. 12 THE LAST GAME Chiefs 42, Jaguars 20 October 24, 2010 Arrowhead Stadium 69,105 JACKSONVILLE KANSAS CITY The Chiefs registered a win over the Jaguars at Arrowhead as all three phases contributed to the victory. Offensively, QB Matt Cassel found WR Dwayne Bowe for two TD passes while RB Thomas Jones recorded 20 carries for 125 yards and one TD as the Chiefs piled up 42 carries for 236 yards. Defensively, Kansas City held the Jaguars offense to 300 total yards. The Chiefs recorded two interceptions of QB Todd Bouman with LB Derrick Johnson returning one for a 15-yard TD. On special teams, CB Javier Arenas forced a fumble on a Jaguars punt return that led to a Chiefs TD as KC registered 21 points off turnovers. The Chiefs were forced to punt on their first possession as Jacksonville WR Mike Thomas returned the ball 49 yards before Arenas caught him from behind and forced a fumble. LS Thomas Gafford recovered it, giving the Chiefs possession at their own 26-yard line. The very next play, Jones scampered up the right side for 70 yards to the Jacksonville four-yard line. RB Jamaal Charles took the ball in from there putting the Chiefs up 7-0. The Jaguars answered with a 35-yard K Josh Scobee FG to cut into the Chiefs lead, making it 7-3. After the Chiefs were forced to punt, Bouman connected with RB Maurice Jones-Drew coming out of the backfield for an 18-yard TD to put the Jaguars up 10-7 with 9:38 left in the first half. Cassel hit TE Tony Moeaki for 20 yards and a first down and then found Bowe for 22 yards, both on second-and-13 plays, to move the ball to the Jacksonville 22-yard line. On second and nine, Cassel connected with McCluster for nine yards and a first down. Jones picked up eight yards to the three-yard line. On the rush, Jones eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the game. Two plays later, Jones leaped over the goal line to put the Chiefs up with 1:31 left in the first half. Jacksonville moved the ball to the Kansas City 19-yard line before CB Brandon Carr was called for defensive pass interference in the end zone, giving the Jaguars first and goal at the one-yard line. However, the Chiefs defense held, forcing the Jaguars to settle for an 18-yard FG to make the score at half. On the Chiefs second offensive play of the second half, Cassel hooked up with Bowe for a 53-yard catch and run to put the Chiefs up just 37 seconds into the third quarter. Jacksonville followed the Chiefs TD with a nine-yard TD pass from Bouman to WR Mike Sims-Walker, tightening the score to After a Chiefs punt, Johnson intercepted a Bouman pass and returned it 15 yards for a touchdown to put the Chiefs up After moving the ball to the Kansas City 44-yard line, Jacksonville was forced to punt to the Chiefs. Facing third and eight from the KC 17-yard, WR Terrance Copper climbed the ladder to pull down a 16-yard pass from Cassel to keep the drive alive. Cassel then hit FB Mike Cox for 13 yards on another third down moving the Chiefs into Jacksonville territory. Five plays later Bowe hauled in a six-yard TD pass from Cassel giving the Chiefs the lead. S Eric Berry recorded his first career INT as he stepped in front of a Bouman pass and returned it 35 yards to the Jacksonville 12-yard line. RB Jackie Battle put the exlamation point on the victory with a one-yard TD to push the Chiefs lead to GAME NOTES RB Thomas Jones registered his 34th career 100- yard rushing game and second straight this season.
