With so many playrs rturning and th insrtion of a fw talntd individuals, much is xpctd. This is a tam hungry to accomplish mor than thy vr hav. Th standards hav bn st high for this sason. Four startrs and a host of last sason s tam ar rturning. This is th cor of th tam that won 0 of its last 2 gams and avragd narly 85 points a gam. In fact, last yar s Tigrs scord mor points pr gam than ach of th prvious 4 ONU tams. Th bst nws is that narly thr-fourths of th playrs who scord points, mad and attmptd fild goals last sason will b back in uniform. Th Tigrs should b vn bttr offnsivly and with mor dpth and vrsatility. With that said, Had Coach Ralph Hodg in his 39th sason and now th winningst activ coach in th NAIA along with his xprincd staff hav th job of prparing this tam in ordr to rach th goals thy hav stablishd. Coach Hodg is a strong blivr in prparation. Our numbr on goal is to prpar and play with a momnt-to-momnt xpctation, h says. H was a mmbr of two NAIA Division II National Championship participants in 205 and 206, and hlpd lad th Tigrs to CCAC rgular sason tournamnt titls in 205. Following his snior sason, h was namd CCAC Honorabl Mntion. Cratr was also outstanding in th classroom during his four yars as a Tigr. H was namd a two-tim Daktronics- NAIA Scholar-Athlt, thr-tim CCAC All-Acadmic Tam mmbr and NABC Honors Court mmbr this past sason. In addition, h was th first in program history to b honord as a CoSIDA Acadmic All-Amrica Collg Division Scond Tam slction. In 206-7, Cratr put togthr a fantastic snior sason. H playd in 4 carr gams, including all 3 last sason. Swindl avragd 3.4 points and was scond on th tam with 09 assists. Coach Hodg knows xactly what h has in this yar s tam: Th biggst factor for this yar s tam is th xprinc rturning and gaind from last yar. Evn though this yar s squad will xprinc changs, thy rturn with a vry solid cor that has alrady shown itslf wll. Hadlining th group and back aftr an outstanding frshman campaign is 6-foot, 5-inch Nic Rd (Nw Albany, Ind.). H will b countd on havily aftr garnring accolads that ar usually rsrvd for upprclassmn. Rd was namd CCAC Frshman of th Yar and First Tam All-Confrnc, along with arning NAIA Division II Honorabl Mntion All-Amrica honors. H is only th 3th Tigr to b namd to th award, and only th scond frshman in th history of th program. During his first sason with th Tigrs, Rd also arnd NAIA Division II Playr of th Wk honors and thr CCAC Playr of th Wk slctions. Not only did Rd lad th Tigrs in scoring in with 22.4, but h ld th ntir CCAC. H playd in all 3 gams, starting in 30, and ld th tam in minuts (34.2). H also ld th tam in rbounds pr gam (8.8), dfnsiv rbounds (84), offnsiv rbounds (90), fr-throws mad and attmptd (64-of-9), fild goals mad and attmptd ( ), and prcntag (.542). Chris Grn (Bonfild, Ill.) is now in his fourth sason and has th uniqu rsponsibility as th only snior with xprinc in a varsity uniform for th Tigrs. This summr and into th prsason, Grn has bgun to rlish th duty of ladr for this yar s tam. In his junior sason, Grn postd carrhighs with 9. points pr gam and 24.0 minuts pr contst. H startd 2 of 25 gams playd last sason and was th Tigrs sharpshootr, lading th tam in thr-pointrs mad (45). H postd a carr-high 40.5 prcnt shooting from bhind th arc, and anothr carr-high whil dishing out 2.6 assists and grabbing 2.5 rbounds pr gam. In his carr, Grn has scord 452 points and has 22 assists. H has mad 03 thr-pointrs and shoots 83.0 prcnt from th fr-throw lin. Now in his final sason, Grn will dmand as much out of himslf as h dos out of his tam. On of fiv frshmn to play last sason, but arguably on of th most dynamic, is 6-foot, 3-inch Dakota Bnnington (Poria, Ill.). Bnnington hlpd backup snior Tylr Cratr a sason ago. Now as a sophomor, h is rady to tak th torch passd down and hlp lad ONU s primtr gam. Evry gam, h brings with him his athlticism, xplosivnss and uncanny ability to scor in various ways. Furthrmor, thr is always a possibility of his bringing th Tigr fans to thir ft with on of his dunks, making him on of th most xciting playrs in all of th CCAC. A sason ago, Bnnington was th Tigrs third-lading scorr (0.2), scoring in doubl figurs 6 tims, and avraging only 6.7 minuts pr gam. H startd fiv of th 27 gams h playd in, missing a fw to injury. Bnnington was third on th tam in shots mad and attmptd (08-for-232,.466), was third in fr-throw prcntag (.837) and is an improving thr-point shootr who mad 24 a sason ago. Bnnington is maturing as a dfndr and rboundr. If h combins thos aspcts with his ability to s th gam and pass th ball, thr is no tlling whr his gam can go. Two mor young playrs, now in thir scond sason with th Tigrs, hav grown and maturd: Strling Thornton (Strling, Ill.) and Luk Tuttl (Hampshir, Ill.). Thornton is a 6-foot guard who playd off th bnch for th Tigrs as a frshman. H is tough-nosd and hustl-mindd in all facts of his gam. H also brings an intllignc to his dcision-making. H playd in 28 gams and startd in four, playing 7.0 minuts pr gam. Thornton avragd 3.8 points and 2.3 rbounds to go along with his 2: assist-to-turnovr ratio. Six-foot, 3-inch Zach Tuxhorn (Naprvill, Ill.) is back for his junior sason, and th Tigrs ar xcitd about his dvlopmnt during his sophomor yar and ovr th offsason. Tuxhorn avragd only 9.0 minuts pr gam last sason, but th undrsizd post always had a way of accomplishing somthing whil on th floor. His 2.5 points and.9 rbounds pr gam wr small compard to othrs, but his willingnss to compt on vry position was hug for th tim h was on th floor. Also making his mov to th varsity this sason is Solomon Barwgn (Otsgo, Mich.), who has run th point guard for th junior varsity th last two sasons. On of th most intriguing additions this offsason is transfr Luis Bcrra Dominguz (Svill, Spain). Bcrra Dominguz will b with th Tigrs for his snior sason and is looking to finish his carr wll. H most rcntly playd at NCAA Division II St. Josph s Collg (Ind.) for his junior sason, sing action in 8 gams, whil starting in fiv. H playd 4.4 minuts pr gam, avragd 3.7 points pr gam and.7 rbounds.
