6 IT S RAINING IN SEATTLE In 2015, 23.8 percent of the shots Seattle took were three-pointers, one of the highest marks in the WNBA. That percentage was even higher during the previous five seasons, when the Storm was always either first or second in the category. This year could be similar, as 10 of the 12 players on Seattle s roster have proven to be threats from three-point range. In game one of the 2016 season, 10 of the 49 shots Seattle took (20.4 percent) were three-pointers. When the Storm defeated Phoenix on Friday, 23 of its 65 shots (35.4 percent) were three-pointers. Seattle made nine of the 23 attempts, including seven in the second quarter alone. TEAM NOTES JEWELL S A GEM Following Friday s win over the Phoenix Mercury, Storm guard Jewell Loyd ranked first in the WNBA with 25.0 points per game. She scored a career-high 30 points on 12-of-20 shooting against Phoenix, including the game-winning jump shot with 2.9 seconds remaining. Loyd, who won Rookie of the Year last season, made more three-pointers on Friday (three) than she did in any game her first year. Before her game-winner in the final seconds, she also hit a crucial jumper with 41.9 seconds left to bring the Storm within one. Loyd scored the final 10 points for Seattle, finishing the fourth quarter with 12 on 6-of-7 field goals. She became just the sixth player in franchise history to score 30 points. 20+ CLUB In the season opener against Los Angeles, Seattle had two players score 20-plus points: Reigning Rookie of the Year Jewell Loyd had 20 on 6-of-14 shooting, while 2016 No. 1 draft pick Breanna Stewart notched a team-high 23 points on 9-of-13 from the field. Only once in 2015 did the Storm have two players score at least 20 points. On June 28, 2015, both Loyd and fellow rookie Ramu Tokashiki recorded season highs with 21 points apiece on the road against the Tulsa Shock. SHE S A THIEF Now in her 15th season in the WNBA, Sue Bird is ninth in career steals with 548. She averages 1.3 steals per game for her career, which included one season missed due to injury. In eight of the 13 years she played, Bird recorded 1.4 or more steals per contest. Her 548 career steals rank fifth among active players, and there s a good chance she moves up two spots on the all-time list this year. POPPIN CHAMPAGNE IN FRANCE RK. NAME STEALS 6 Taj McWilliams-Franklin (Ret.) Tully Bevilaqua (Ret.) Jia Perkins (SAS) Sue Bird (SEA) Yolanda Griffith (Ret.) 529 On the same day her Seattle team opened the WNBA season, Storm forward Jenna O Hea captured a championship with French club Lattes Montpiellar. O Hea s team won this past Sunday to take the series-clinching game three. On their way to the title, Lattes Montpiellar won in the semifinal round over Charleville-Mezieres, which features fellow Storm forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis. O Hea, who also won the French Cup the previous year, averaged just under 10 points off the bench for Lattes Montpiellar in Last season, her first with the Storm, she was one of three Seattle players that appeared in all 34 WNBA games. JUST THE BEGINNING... Breanna Stewart put up an impressive stat line in her WNBA debut: a team-high 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Her 23 points represented the sixth highest total by any player in the league on opening weekend. Compared to other rookies, Stewart ranked first in points, tied for fourth with six rebounds and tied for second with three assists. After Jewell Loyd was the only 2015 rookie in the top five in points, rebounds and assists, Stewart could be in line to do the same this season. In her final season at the University of Connecticut, Stewart led her team in points, rebounds and blocked shots while ranking second in assists. WELCOME TO THE WNBA, ROOKIE Five days after scoring 23 points against Los Angeles the third-highest scoring debut in WNBA history rookie forward Breanna Stewart made history again in her second game. She scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds against Phoenix, tying Lauren Jackson for the most boards by a Storm rookie. Stewart was especially dominant in the second half, recording nine points and 10 rebounds after the break. Matched up with 6-9 center Brittney Griner, the 6-4 Stewart finished with seven more rebounds than Griner. Heading into Sunday s matchup with Minnesota, Stewart ranks fourth in the WNBA with 9.5 rebounds per game, while Lynx center Sylvia Fowles is No. 1 with 13.5 per game. STACKED ROSTERS On Opening Night against Minnesota, three of the four No. 1 draft picks in Storm history will share the court at KeyArena for the first time (Sue Bird, Jewell Loyd and Breanna Stewart). Lauren Jackson, who was selected with the top pick by Seattle in 2001, announced her retirement from basketball prior to this season. The Lynx also has three No. 1 picks on its roster (Maya Moore, Seimone Augustus and Janel McCarville), meaning six No. 1 draft picks will be on court together on Opening Night for the first time. MONNIE S FORMER TEAM When the Storm hosts Minnesota on Sunday, guard Monica Wright will be facing her former team for the first time. Wright was acquired midseason last year the Storm traded Renee Montgomery and a draft pick for her but she missed the final two months of the season due to knee surgery. Wright played in 161 regular season games and 29 playoff games during her six years with the Lynx, which featured a pair of championships (2011, 2013). The No. 2 overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft, Wright averaged 7.9 points and 19.8 minutes per game for the Lynx, plus 1.8 steals per 40 minutes. Her 32 points scored in a game as a rookie represent the third highest total in WNBA history by a reserve. Wright finished second in the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year voting in 2013, when the Virginia product averaged nine points per game off the bench.

7 TEAM NOTES STEWART S STORM During a historic, unprecedented career at Connecticut, Breanna Stewart won four consecutive national championships and guided the Huskies to a pair of perfect seasons ( and ). She was named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four in all four of her team s title runs and won AP Player of the Year three straight seasons. A four-year starter at Connecticut, Stewart becomes the fifth Husky to be selected with the top pick in the WNBA draft. She finished her college career with a record after leading the Huskies in scoring for the past three seasons. During her senior year, Stewart averaged 19.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.4 blocks per game while shooting 57.9 percent from the field and 42.6 percent from the 3-point line. Stewart is the only player in Division I women s basketball history to record 300 blocks and 300 assists in her career. At the 2013 Final Four, she became the first freshman in 26 years to earn the tournament s Most Outstanding Player award. Stewart has also played for the United States National Team, helping the USA win gold at the 2014 FIBA World Championship. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR RETURNS FOR SOPHOMORE SEASON Following a season where she led all rookies in scoring percentage (10.7), and was the only rookie ranking in the top five in points, rebounds and assists averages, Jewell Loyd, the 2015 WNBA Rookie of the Year, returns to Seattle for her second season. Loyd s rookie season featured a pair of 21-point outbursts Tulsa, Chicago), 17 ten-plus point scoring efforts and she led the team in scoring 10 times. She went 14-of-14 from the free-throw line on 8/30/15 vs. Washington, snapping Lauren Jackson s record of 13-of-13, the most made free-throws without a miss in Storm history. ONE OF THE ALL-TIME BEST DISHIN THE ROCK Sue Bird is just 379 assists shy of tying Ticha Penicheiro (2,599) on the WNBA all-time assist rankings. She boasts a 5.2 assist per game career average, sitting in second place on the all-time list. The 2015 season saw Bird fall just.4 assists per game short of leading the league in the category (Courtney Vandersloot, 5.8 apg, 2015). RK. For the first time in franchise history, two Storm players were named to the roster: veteran guard Sue Bird and rookie forward Breanna Stewart. Bird is a three-time Olympic gold medalist, compiling a 24-0 record over her three appearances. Stewart, named to her first Olympic squad, won a gold medal with Bird at the 2014 FIBA World Championships in Turkey. Additionally, with the Minnesota Lynx roster including four Olympians (L. Whalen, S. Augustus, S. Fowles, M. Moore), Sunday s Opening Night game will feature half (6) of the 2016 USA Women s Basketball Olympic roster. TAK-ING THE WNBA BY STORM Seattle s Jewell Loyd won Rookie of the Year in 2015, but teammate Ramu Tokashiki wasn t too far behind her in terms of statistical dominance compared to other first-year players. Tokashiki was third among rookies in points (8.3 per game), third in blocks (0.9), fourth in minutes (20.6) and second in free throw shooting behind Loyd (86.2 percent). She ranked in the top 20 of the entire WNBA in free throw shooting and overall plus-minus rating. Tokashiki played in 30 games for the Storm, leading the team in scoring four times and posting a team high in blocks 17 times. HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF Seattle owned the No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft for the second straight year, the second time a WNBA team has selected first back-toback years. After doing so in 2001 and 2002, the Storm won its first WNBA title within three seasons. Including Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird, seven of the players taken No. 1 overall in the WNBA Draft between 2001 and 2013 have won at least one title. In the NBA, having backto-back top picks has proven to deliver even quicker success: All three times NBA franchises have chosen first overall in consecutive years since 1965, they have made the NBA finals within two seasons (Orlando Magic , Houston Rockets , Cleveland Cavaliers ). MIGHT WANT TO GUARD HER Crystal Langhorne sits in fourth all-time on the WNBA s FG% charts. A career 55.9% shooter, Langhorne has led the Storm in scoring since joining the team and in consecutive seasons (2014, 2015). RK. Crystal Langhorne (SEA) Tamika Raymond (Ret.) 54.9 Now in her fifth season as a WNBA head coach and second with the Seattle Storm, Jenny Boucek is tasked with guiding the Storm back to the playoffs for the first time since The club was this past season, finishing four games out of the playoff race. Prior to taking over as head coach in Seattle last year, Boucek held the same role for the now-defunct Sacramento Monarchs from She was an assistant coach in Seattle from and Boucek was around for both of the team s WNBA titles before being promoted to head coach. The Storm made improvements in a few different areas after Boucek took over, namely on the defensive end. Seattle s opponents scored just 7.1 fast break points per game last season, good for second in the WNBA. The Storm also allowed just 30.5 points in the paint on average, the fourth best mark in the league.

8 DUSTING OFF KEYARENA Since its inaugural WNBA season in 2000, the Storm is 10-6 in home openers, including an 8-2 mark in its last 10. Seattle has faced Los Angeles in seven of the 16 home openers, going 3-4 in those games. In its lone home opener against Minnesota, the Storm won on May 20, 2004, thanks to 31 points from Lauren Jackson and 17 from Sue Bird.
