1 Differentiated Instruction & Understanding By Design Lesson Plan Format Title: Algebra 1: Plot Points, graph linear equations, quick graphs, slope, slope-intercept Subject Matter Emphasis and Level: Math-8 th grade Author: Kristie Vanden Hoek School District: Mt. Vernon Middle School

2 Brief Description of the Lesson/Unit: Students will use linear equations and their graphs to model real-life situations. To do so, they will draw and make predictions from scatter plots. The students will graph linear equations using a variety of techniques, including a table of values, two points, and a point and the slope of a line. They will be able identify equations of vertical, horizontal, and parallel lines, and equations that represent direct variation. Students will identify and evaluate functions. They will also use their graphs of linear functions to model and solve real-life problems. Directions of unit: Each student needs to complete all assignments under the daily work. They will need to complete 50 points out of the activities by choosing at least one activity from each level. They will also need to complete 30 points from the technology column, one activity from each level. The last part of the unit, each student chooses at least one project from each level. When completing these columns they need to complete the assigned points. If they complete more points then assigned, they will receive bonus points.
