Each drill/activity is shown in detail in the Practice Plans section of Kudda basketball Flexibility Each practice has ample drills and activities to allow coaches flexibility to tweak each practice to their needs.

Practice Plan Rationale and Assumptions The Kudda Practice Plans have been developed with the best coaching practices being utilized. Using a combination of both the Traditional style of coaching with the Games Approach, these practices will teach both the technical and tactical aspects of the game. Each practice will maximize the number of touches with the increased opportunity to apply these skills in competitive activities. The skills will be taught using a model of: Teach the skill Drill the skill Apply that skill to a competitive activity Kudda is a firm believer in the learning power of playing 3v3 and this will be the cornerstone of most competitive activities. Everything that a player needs to learn and develop can be taught using the 3v3 model. Not only will Kudda s practices be heavy into the 3v3 concept but for all drills and activities, players will be grouped into 3 s. Two man drills are flat, 2-dimensional and deal with straight lines. By adding a third player to every drill, depth and shape are added to replicate the 3D experience. All of Kudda s basketball practice plans have some common assumptions: Practices are 90 minutes Players will stretch on their own before practice starts Ball handling warmups will be completed prior to practice 2 Coaches are present One half court is available with one basket Teams have between 6-12 players Teams have between 6-12 basketballs; enough for each player Practices are twice a week for 10 weeks Water breaks in between uarters

Teaching 3 on 3- - Skills Needed for 3 on 3 Reprinted with permission from CoachRB.com Terminology 1) The first ball handler is referred to as the top and the other two players as wings. 2) As you face the basket, right and left. 3) Direct pass a pass that is throw in a direct line to your teammate without hitting the floor or floating in the air too long. 4) Sweet Spot feet above the top of the key. 5) Free throw line extended An invisible line that is even with the free throw line as if it is extended to the sideline. 6) Foot war placing your foot over the foot of the defender to gain an advantage for getting open to catch the ball from a teammate. On right side; right foot over the defenders right foot. Left side; left foot over the defenders left foot. 7) Nail at the free throw line the small hole that is in the middle of the free throw line directly in line with basket. 8) Inside foot the foot closest to the basket. 9) Target hand Extended arm and open hand shown to the passer to indicate placement of the pass. Right side, left hand. Left side, right hand. 10) Spots on the floor T- Top, R- Right wing, L- Left wing 11) Outside of body when passing you must fake one direction, step across the defender and pass it so the defender cannot touch the ball. This gives you a clear path to throw a good direct pass to your teammate. You cannot throw a pass through a defender and must throw it outside their body. 12) Change of speed and direction Used when creating distance or separation from the defender to catch the ball from a teammate. 13) Window Place your hands in front of you with arms extended. Spread out all fingers and form a window in front of you so you can see the pass coming and prepare to catch it. 14) Checkmark From the wing, cutting in the shape of a checkmark at an angle into the paint then out to the wing to catch pass. 15) Ball in the air Begin making cut to open spot on the floor as ball is in the air, not once ball is caught by teammate. 16) Entry pass- The first pass in a possession from Top to Wing. This pass begins an offensive possession for the offense.

17) Hula Hoop once you catch the ball it is the space in front of you and around you that you are in control of; as if you have a big hula hoop around you that doesn t allow the defender to get close to you with the ball. This is a term we use that is the same as triple threat position. 18) Stride Stop When player penetrates into the paint, anchor the inside foot on the floor as pivot foot. Use pivot foot for balance, strength, step through shots, or pass to open teammate.

Teaching 3 on 3- - Skills Needed for 3 on 3 24 skills by three players in just two passes! 12 additional skills in pass/catch category 36 total skills for 3 on 3 play (Reprinted with permission from CoachRB.com) Top player Skill # Start at half court with head up and keep dribble in the middle of the floor. Skill #2 See each teammate on the wing, right and left, and choose which one to enter the ball to. Skill #3 Change speed and direction in middle of the floor to the side you are passing to. Key is to get outside the body of the defender to make the pass. Skill #4 When passing, step to your teammate as you pass and pass with two hands. **This pass is a direct pass, not a bounce pass. Pass to the target hand of the receiver, away from the defender no to your teammate. Skill #5 Cut in front of your defender to the basket. Skill #6 When cutting, show your window and expect the pass to be thrown. Skill #7 If you do not receive the ball, cut to the opposite wing.

Teaching 3 on 3- - Skills Needed for 3 on 3 24 skills by three players in just two passes! 12 additional skills in pass/catch category 36 total skills for 3 on 3 play (Reprinted with permission from CoachRB.com) Wing Player Skill #1 Start in the correct place on the floor. If your cut to get open will be a checkmark you will want to start on the sideline even with the first mark above the block. Skill #2 Your head and eyes are up in case your point guard gets in trouble and needs you to help. Skill #3 Wait until the point guard has reached the sweet spot on the floor (6-8 feet above the top of the key) to make your checkmark to get open. Skill #4 Execute your checkmark properly using a) Change of speed and direction, b)drive defender to the paint, c) Win the foot war, d)explode to the wing and create separation from your defender, e) Cut under control so you can catch and hula hoop without getting off balance, f) Show a target hand which is your outside hand. On the right wing it is your left hand, on the left wing it is your right hand. Skill #5 Catch with two hands Skill #6 Pivot on the proper foot; right wing, right foot; left wing, left foot. Skill #7 Hula Hoop position, facing the basket, ball in ball pocket, rip ball across body, jab step, eyes on rim. Skill #8 Look to pass to cutter if they are open. Step by defender to make pass and pass is a direct pass, not a bounce pass. Skill #10 If teammate is open on top, step to your teammate as you pass outside the body of your defender. Skill #11 After passing, stay on your wing and begin getting open again.

Teaching 3 on 3- - Skills Needed for 3 on 3 24 skills by three players in just two passes! 12 additional skills in pass/catch category 36 total skills for 3 on 3 play (Reprinted with permission from CoachRB.com) Opposite Wing Player Skill #1 Execute skills #1- #4 from above Skill #2 When ball is thrown to other wing, be in the proper place on the floor; on the sideline and even with the free throw line (free throw line extended). Skill #3 As the ball is in the air from point guard to other wing player, a)cut to the nail at the free throw line, b)plant your inside foot (foot closest to the basket; right wing, right foot; left wing, left foot), c)win the foot war, d) make an angle cut to the top of the key, but 3 feet toward the ball. e)show target hand (your outside hand). Skill #4 Catch with two hands. Skill #5 Hula Hoops position, facing the basket, ball in ball pocket, rip ball across body, jab step, eyes on rim. Skill #6 Look for open teammate cutting into the lane. Skill #7 With your eyes up, look for the next open teammate on the wing, right or left and deliver the pass to them.

Teaching 3 on 3- - Skills Needed for 3 on 3 24 skills by three players in just two passes! 12 additional skills in pass/catch category 36 total skills for 3 on 3 play (Reprinted with permission from CoachRB.com) Options after Catching Skill #1 Hula Hoop Skill #2 Jab series; Jay/x- over/triple threat Skill #3 Catch and shoot Skill #4 Catch and drive by defender; a)catch/sweep, b) catch/jab series Skill #5 Pass to open teammate Skill #6 Dribble and fill. Example; catch ball on wing/opposite wing cuts to nail hole and back cuts. Dribble hard to the top to space the floor. Options after Passing Skill #1 Basket cut; cut over top of defender; ball/you/defender. Skill #2 Inside cut; pass and cut to the ball side corner. Skill #3 Replace. Pass and fake a cut, replace to same spot. Skill #4 Screen for teammate; screen away/ball screen. Skill #5- - Screen and go; slip the screen. Skill #6- - Basket cut and post up. ***From here the cycle continues from above and is repeated over and over. The possession never stops or needs to be set up because it is a constant flow of offense. Additional options for 3 on 3 1. Wings communicate before possession begins and exchange their positions, called swing the wings. 2. Start with two players on right side; wing/corner. Start possession with wing/corner screen down. Corner man catches on wing as screener cuts through under basket to opposite wing.

3. Back screen from post. Player is posting up on right post with ball on right wing. Ball is reversed to the top. Post steps out and sets back screen for wing. Screener goes to right wing, cutter cuts through lane to opposite wing. 4. Start with two man stack in midpost. One player screens the other to catch on wing. Screener fills open spot. 5. Start with play on each midpost. They communicate and screen and cut to fill spots. 6. Use of the on ball screen can be used, but just once in a possession.
