KNOCKING OFF THE LEADERS A 19-4 second-half run helped Lafayette take the lead for good against then first-place American. The Leopards erased a six-point halftime deficit and outscored the Eagles after halftime en route to the 12-point victory. Lafayette made a season-high 60 percent of its shot attempts (27-of-45), the highest percentage since Jan. 8, 2013 against Penn when it went 30-of-49 from the floor (61.2 percent). BLOCK PARTY Lafayette s victory was aided by its best performance of the season in terms of blocking shots. The Leopards sent back a season-high nine shots, led by career bests by freshman Michael Hoffman (four) and sophomore Nathaniel Musters (three). Hoffman s four blocks were the most for any player in The rejections helped Lafayette hold Loyola to season lows in points (44) and shooting percentage (33.3 percent). GETTING DEFENSIVE In five of Lafayette s last seven games the Leopards have held their opponents under 28 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The loss at Boston (11-of-25, 44 percent) and the win over American (10-of-21, 47.6 percent) were the only hiccups. Four of Lafayette s last five opponents have been held to fewer than 62 points and three teams were held to less than 35 percent shooting. Over the last nine games, opponents are shooting 27.7 percent from downtown (56-of-202). WINDEX WARRIORS? With the second half of Patriot League play underway, Lafayette has turned the corner in terms of rebounding the basketball. The Leopards won the battle on the glass against Navy (+9), Bucknell (+2), Boston (+3) and American (+5). In the last five games, Lafayette is averaging more than 2.6 rebounds per game than its opposition. Lafayette was outrebounded by 6.9 rebounds per game and opponents outscored the Leopards in second-chance points in the first round of League play. GUARDING THE THREE Navy (11-14), Bucknell (12-15) and vs. Boston (15-30) combined to hit 38-of-59 from beyond the arc, a 64.4 percent clip, during a three-game stretch. The Terriers 15 three-pointers were the most given up by Lafayette since Vanderbilt knocked down 15 on Dec. 21, Overall, Lafayette s Patriot League opponents are shooting 36.0 percent (107-of- 297) from downtown. SOLVING SOJKA Lafayette earned its first-ever win at Sojka Pavilion (1-15) on Feb. 5 in a final. Seth Hinrichs recorded his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Dan Trist scored 14 and Monty Boykins added a career-high 13 points in the win. The Leopards held Bucknell to 34.5 percent shooting from the field and outrebounded the Bison Bucknell went 2-for-16 from beyond the arc in the contest. DOUBLING UP Junior Seth Hinrichs became the second Lafayette player to secure a double-double with his 18 point and 10 rebound effort against Bucknell. The double-double was the third of Hinrichs career. Earlier this season, Dan Trist recorded his first-career double-double with by scoring 18 points and reeling in a career-high 12 rebounds against Robert Morris (11/12). In the win over American, Trist scored 19 points and pulled down 10 boards for his second double-double. Hinrichs (3) and Trist (2) are the only active players to register double-doubles in their careers. STOPPING THE NAVY Junior Joey Ptasinski didn t miss a shot in Lafayette s 18-point triumph against Navy. Ptasinski hit all six of his three-point attempts and was 4-for-4 at the free throw line en route to 22 a season-high points. As a team, Lafayette held Navy to 54 points and 34 percent from the floor. The Mids scored 20 second-half points, which was the least for a Leopards opponent in any half this season. Lafayette s rebounding margin (+9) was the highest positive difference of the year. LOOKING FOR STABILITY Only two players, junior Joey Ptasinski and freshman Nick Lindner have played in every game this season for Lafayette. Of the 15 players on Lafayette s roster, six have missed at least one game due to injury, including four starters, and Fran O Hanlon has used 13 different starting lineups. In addition, 12 players have made at least one start. BENCH PUNCH For the first time all season, Lafayette s bench outscored its starters (49-29) against Boston University. After Dan Trist and Nick Lindner each picked up two fouls in the opening four minutes at home against Bucknell, Fran O Hanlon decided to have the duo come off the bench in an effort to avoid early foul calls against two of his regular starters. The tactic worked as Trist (19) and Lindner (16) combined for 35 points in the loss to the BU. Trist has come off the bench in Lafayette s last 11 games and is averaging 13.2 points per game during that time. LIFE WITHOUT HINRICHS Lafayette s 11-game losing streak was the team s longest since it dropped 23 in a row through the end of the campaign and the start of During the run of losses, the Leopards were without Seth Hinrichs for 10 games because of a knee injury. They were outscored by an average of 10.3 points per night and gave up an average of 77.5 points per outing. Opponents shot 48.4 percent from the field and 37.2 percent from beyond the arc during the slide. The Maroon and White were also outrebounded by an average of 7.5 boards per game. PTASINSKI LIGHTS IT UP Junior guard Joey Ptasinski found his rhythm over a nine-game stretch from Lafayette s first meeting with Navy (1/5) and leading into his best performance of the season against Navy in Easton, Pa. on Feb. 1. Ptasinski scored a season-high 22 points on 6-for-6 shooting from three-point land, had back-to-back 20 point games and nine straight games with at least 10 points. During the stretch, Ptasinski was second on the team with an average of 14 points per night and shot 58.7 percent (44-of-75) from the floor. From beyond the arc, Ptasinski was 27-for-49, a 55.1 percent clip, and made 11- of-12 from deep against Colgate and Navy. SUB!!!!!!! Much to the chagrin of official statisticians and public address announcers, Fran O Hanlon likes to run players in an out at stoppages of play. The Leopards have traditionally gone 9-10 deep into their bench, often substituting offensedefense as early as the first half LAFAYETTE BASKETBALL PAGE 2

After opening Patriot League play with a miss at Navy (0-1), Hoffman made six in-a-row from distance, including a 2-for-2 night against Loyola (1/13). Hoffman missed his only attempt against Colgate to snap the streak. Career Three-Pointers Player 3FG Years 1. He nearly made it back-to-back double doubles with his 19-point and nine-rebound effort at Princeton. In Lafayette s loss to Navy, Trist had 14 points and nine boards and has scored in double figures 16 times. Trist scored 21 points in the loss to Bucknell, the third time in his career he reached the 20-point plateau and posted his second double-double with 19 points and 10 boards in the win over American. HOFFMAN STEPS UP During the four-game absence of forward Alan Flannigan, freshman Michael Hoffman stepped into the starting lineup and helped solidify the frontcourt. Hoffman started four games and averaged 6.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in 17.5 minutes of action. In the loss to Army, Hoffman blocked three shots. Hoffman grabbed a career-high five rebounds in the loss to Bucknell and matched his career-best effort with nine points in the first meeting against Boston. The freshman has started six of Lafayette s 14 Patriot League contests. Hoffman sent back a career-high four shots in the win over Loyola, the most for any Lafayette player in one game this year. TURNOVER TALES During Lafayette s four-game December winning streak, the team turned the ball over less than its opponent in every game. In Lafayette s loss to St. Francis Brooklyn, the Leopards gave the ball away 19 times, which was a season high. Overall on the year, the Pards average 12.5 turnovers and force 12.0 for a -0.5 turnover margin, which is sixth in the Patriot League. When Lafayette forces less than 10 turnovers per game, its record is 1-6. CLEANING THE GLASS Lafayette struggled rebounding the basketball early in the year and its rebounding margin is -3.2, which slots the team eighth in the Patriot League. Lafayette is eighth in the conference in offensive rebounds (8.6 rpg), and is ninth in defensive boards (21.8 rpg). So far this year, Lafayette is 6-3 when winning the rebounding battle. GLASS HALF FULL Lafayette was 11-0 last season when shooting better than 50 percent from the field. After beating American and shooting 60 percent (27-of-45), Lafayette improved to 5-5 on the year when hitting at least half its shots. The losses came at American and Princeton, and at home against Yale, Bucknell and Boston. INCREASED ROLE Sophomore Ben Freeland saw his minutes increase over Lafayette s seven-game stretch from Seton Hall (12/27) to American (1/18). The 6-9 forward averaged 13.7 minutes, while scoring 3.1 points and pulling down 3.3 rebounds per outing during that span. Freeland set career-highs in points (8) at Seton Hall, rebounds (7) against Navy and steals at American (2). Freeland has started eight Patriot League games, but averages 8.7 minutes in conference play. Freeland has played less than 10 minutes in the last four games. FLANNIGAN UP FRONT Junior forward Alan Flannigan started every game for the Leopards before sitting out the Immaculata game with a knee injury. The Dexter, Mo. native missed four contests before returning to the starting five against Navy. Flannigan played 28 minutes in his return and scored a career-high 14 points, including a pair of three pointers. In conference play, Flannigan has started five games but has only played 15 total minutes over the last four games. COLONEL MUSTERS With his countryman Dan Trist in foul trouble early in the game against Villanova, sophomore Nathaniel Musters was called on to play important minutes off the bench against the Wildcats. The 6-10 center proved to be up to the challenge as he secured a career-and-team high six rebounds in 19 minutes of action. Needing to fill the void in the starting five left by Trist against Penn, Musters stepped in admirably with five points, five boards, three assists and two blocks in 20 minutes. Musters averaged 11.8 minutes and 2.5 rebounds per game in non-conference play. Since Patriot League play started, Musters has played in 11 of 14 games, is averaging 7.8 minutes and has played less than 10 minutes in four of the last five games. Musters blocked a career-high three shots in the win over Loyola. FOLLOW THE LEADER Lafayette s leading scorer last season, Seth Hinrichs (14.5 ppg) is leading the team with 17.4 points per game and has 13 career 20-point games after scoring a career-high 28 points in back-to-back games against Yale and Penn. Hinrichs scored 20 points in four straight games for the first time in his career prior to netting 12 against Wagner LAFAYETTE BASKETBALL PAGE 4

5 WELCOME TO THE CLUB Junior Seth Hinrichs now has 1,019 career points. Hinrichs became the 39th member of Lafayette s 1,000-point club, and the eighth player to reach 1,000 points in his junior season when he scored 13 against Loyola. The other seven occupy seven of the top eight spots on Lafayette s all-time scoring list. EXTRA POSSESSIONS Over the last four seasons, Lafayette is 14-2 when winning both the rebounding and turnover margin in the same game. This year the Leopards are 2-0 when holding the edge in both categories, with victories coming against Wagner and Sacred Heart. SCOTT ERUPTION After sitting out the Immaculata game with a right ankle injury, sophomore Bryce Scott exploded for 35 points in Lafayette s three-point setback at St. Francis Brooklyn. The guard from El Dorado Hills, Calif. scored 22 of his career-high 35 points in the first half and his total was the most since Jim Mower 12 had 37 against Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 22, Scott made 10 of his 17 field goal attempts and went 11-of-12 at the free throw line in the loss. He hit four threes, including one that tied the game at 62 with 20 seconds to play. Scott became the 20th player in Lafayette history to score at least 35 points in a single game. POLL POSITION Lafayette was picked to finish second in the Patriot League s Preseason Poll behind new Patriot League member Boston University. The Terriers were a unanimous pick to finish at the top of the League as they collected 18 first-place votes and 162 points in the poll. The Leopards followed with the final two first-place votes and 130 points, while Army (115 points) was picked third. Defending Patriot League Champion Bucknell (113) finished fourth in the poll, while Loyola (109) was projected fifth. Lehigh (93), Holy Cross (70), Colgate (49), American (36), and Navy (23) rounded out the preseason poll. SHARING THE WEALTH Lafayette went 4-0 last season when at least five players reached double digits in scoring. Additionally, the Leopards were 10-1 when four or more players scored 10-plus points. Lafayette s only loss last year with four players scoring in double figures came at Maryland (83-74). Lafayette is 3-8 in when four players score at least 10 points. FINE AT THE LINE Lafayette shot 75.4 percent from the line in the season and was ranked 15th in the nation. This year, Lafayette is 339-of-456 (74.3 percent), which is second in the Patriot League. Bryce Scott is second in the conference with his 60-for-70 effort at the line and is tied for 66th in the country at 85.7 percent. WHEN IT MATTERS MOST Lafayette was even better at the line in crunch time last season. The team was 116-of-136 in the final five minutes of regulation and overtime, a 85.3 percent clip. This year Lafayette is 100-of-126 (79.4 percent). LEADING THE CHARGE One of the contributing factors to Lafayette s four-game non-conference winning streak was the play of Nick Lindner at point guard. The rookie scored in double figures in every game during the winning streak and was second on the team with 15.8 points per game during the stretch. He racked up 16 assists, compared to three turnovers, and shot 50.0 percent from the floor (14-of-28). Lindner did most of his damage at the free throw stripe, where he was 81.8 percent (32-of-37). His 24 points against Sacred Heart were the most ever for a freshman since Brian Ehlers 00 had 23 against Navy on March 2, ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Nick Lindner scored a then career-high 18 points in Lafayette s narrow loss to Yale (79-76). The rookie PG hit on 5-of-8 from the floor and was perfect at the line (7-for-7), in addition to handing out five assists and pulling in a season-high five rebounds. He followed up that effort with another double-digit scoring performance as he netted 12 in Lafayette s threepoint win over in-state rival Penn. Lindner went 8-of-10 at the charity stripe and had four assists with only one turnover in the victory. Over those two games Lindner averaged 15 points, three rebounds and 4.5 assists en route to earning his first Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor. 1,000 Point Scorers Player Points Seasons 1.
