The course which will run at North Inch Community Campus, Perth and is fully funded on the basis that candidates will volunteer at least 5 hours to support their school netball team. For further information, or to request an application form, Please contact Claire Mulqueeney, Active Schools Coordinator for School Sport CMulqueeney@pkc.gov.uk or SECONDARY SCHOOLS NETBALL LEAGUE The Perth & Kinross Secondary Schools Netball League recommenced on Wednesday 12th September. Seventeen teams from across six schools competed in the central venue league, which takes place on most Wednesday s afterschool at Bells Sports Centre. Schools which have entered include Perth Academy, Perth High, Perth Grammar, St. John s Academy, Blairgowrie High and Breadalbane Academy. The remaining four secondary schools in Perth and Kinross (Kinross High, Crieff High, TCSOA and Pitlochry High) will play centralised friendly fixtures at Bells across the academic year, building on the success of the pilot which ran last year which engaged every secondary school in competitive schools netball. The Secondary Schools Netball League would not be possible without the commitment of school staff and coaches from across the local authorities, who volunteer their time to train school teams and bring them to league fixtures.

HOLIDAY PROGRAMME Sports Development ran a successful netball summer camp at the Glenearn Campus, Perth. It attracted youngsters not only from Perth but Bridge of Earn and Abernethy as well. Those attending had a fantastic time, taking part in the variety of drills and games throughout the week. The girls also participated in a mini Olympic event of athletics which included hurdles, relay and sprinting. COACHING COURSES If you are interested in developing as a coach then the Netball Scotland getting started and UKCC courses can give you the confidence, skills and qualifications that you need. For more information on courses check out Netball Scotland s website: With fitness in mind the girls were provided with an obstacle course by Ultimate Sports Leaders volunteers Megan Laird and Gillian Campbell. The volunteers were running fun games and coaching the children. The children were able to look up to the volunteers as role models as both leaders play for netball teams. The programme was a great success in player development and getting netball participation levels higher. It was great fun. I have learned how to shoot properly and my favourite part was the Olympic course. - Charlie Annandale: a P6 student of Dunbarney Primary School. BLAIRGOWRIE VS RENFREW Sports Development has started a ladies netball club in Blairgowrie this year. As a result of this work the club was put in contact with a Renfrew netball team thanks to Tammy McKinlay, Active Schools Manager. The Renfrew ladies team came through to Blairgowrie on the 30th of June for a fixture and the Blairgowrie team were joined by players of the Perth Pumas. Both teams were excellent and it was a very exciting match to play and watch. Blairgowrie won the game Everyone played really well, it was a great game. Well done to everyone who played. - Andie Todd: Netball player and coach from Blairgowrie

LADIES LEAGUE The Ladies Netball League runs from September to May, with a tournament at the end of the season. There are 13 teams in the league from Perth, Dundee and Angus. Games are played on a Wednesday night at Bells Sports Centre. There are three games from 6-7 pm and two games from 7-8 pm. Two teams umpire these games. All games are competitive and played by Netball Scotland rules. There are sometimes teams looking for players so if anyone is interested they could Hazel Rylance at hazryl9@hotmail.com, stating the position they play. Each team is allowed 12 players to be affiliated to them. NEW LADIES NETBALL CLUB Recreational sessions started by Perth & Kinross Council Sports Development Team have proved successful as a new ladies netball club has been formed in Perth. This club is called the Perth Pumas. They are going through the constitution process and have affiliated with Perth and Kinross Sports Council this month. The club has played a few friendly matches and will continue to train at the North Inch Community Campus, Perth on Monday evenings from pm. The club is keen to uphold the main aim of the original sessions in increasing participation and interest of female sport and encouraging women to come back to sport recreationally. I have really enjoyed the netball at the campus, it s been great getting involved again in a sport I used to love when I was at school. - Kirsty Thompson Picture Netball Match at Bells Sports Centre Ladies league contact: Hazel Rylance hazryl9@hotmail.com DISTRICT NETBALL SQUAD The district netball squad train every second Thursday, Tammy Mckinlay is the lead coach with Sarah Patrick assistant, and Cathie Gunn is the main umpire for matches. The squad take part in the national U15 district squad competition which is organised by Netball Scotland, the first of which is Sunday the 28 th of October in Aberdeen.

BRIDGE OF EARN NETBALL CLUB Bridge of Earn Netball Club has been in existence for 17 years, but until last year it was only open to primary aged players. In 2010, the club joined forces with Bridge of Earn Tennis Club and a small netball court was marked on one of the tennis courts. This meant coaching was offered to local secondary age players in addition to primary. Since then the club has gone from strength to strength and currently has 60 players on the books. The club was officially constituted with a number of parents stepping up to share responsibility for committee duties, and achieved PACES Club Accreditation Foundation Level in 2011 as well as sponsorship for the trademark light blue hoodies from the Tower Bakery. A successful 2K funding application to the Lochelbank Windfarm has provided the club with a good supply of netballs, bibs, good quality netball stands and most importantly, the competition kit. Last season the club entered the Scottish Cup at U15 level, where the girls reached the quarter finals. This year entries have been made into the Scottish Cup at U13, U15 and U17. Winter training takes place at Kilgraston School on a Monday night for secondary players and at Glenearn Community Campus on a Friday night for primary and some secondary players. The older girls are encouraged and supported to develop as coaches and umpires, which not only helps them learn important skills such as communication, taking responsibility and leadership, but it also means they can help with the younger teams so the club can be sustainable and grow. The club provides good quality coaching, competition and (fun!) sporting experiences to local girls, and its aims are for the players to master the game of netball and to learn about fair play and being a good sport, as well developing an appreciation for an active, healthy lifestyle. The club is grateful to all volunteers, committee members and coaches as it is only with their support that the club can succeed. NETBALL PERFORMANCE CAMP There will be netball camps running on the 15 th and 16 th of December at Kilgraston School in Perth, 10am to 4pm each day. The camps are being run by internationalist Claire Brownie and top Scottish league player Susan Harrison. The camps are open to all ages and abilities but book early to avoid disappointment. The cost is 30 per day and this includes a t-shirt and certificate. Please contact PSTOTT@BTINTERNET.COM for further information or to book a place.

GET INVOLVED CAMP A Get Involved camp for secondary age pupils was held this October. The Camp is funded through Games for Scotland and is part of a programme designed to inspire, develop and support a range of exciting events across the country to engender pride in Scotland s people around the hosting of the 2014 Commonwealth Games and our own heritage. There were many different sports involved including netball. The girls who attended the netball camp were enthusiastic and developed their knowledge of play whereby the girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves! The week consisted of progressive drills and fun games ending in a tournament. The girls commented on how supportive and fun the coaches were and how much they enjoyed the Glasgow match. The camp in Perth was organized by Perth and Kinross Active Schools team with help from Sports Development. The week ended with a celebration event with dancing and a visit from Clyde the Glasgow 2014 mascot. NETBALL AUDIT We are collecting together information on all netball clubs in the Perth and Kinross area. This is to give us an idea of how many clubs and sessions that are running. Whether you are a group of ladies who just play for fun or clubs please get in touch so we can put you on our contact list.
