The Lady Flames are 8-0 at home and have won six straight home matchups against the Runnin' Bulldogs. Liberty recorded an victory at Gardner-Webb on Jan. 13 during the teams' first meeting this season. Riding a season-best five-game winning streak, Liberty is one win away from recording 10 or more Big South victories for the 19th consecutive season. Sophomore forward Ola Makurat is averaging 14.0 ppg in three career meetings with Gardner-Webb, highlighted by a career-high 20-point outburst in Boiling Springs on Jan. 13. Sophomore forward Keyen Green was limited to six points in 13 minutes at Gardner-Webb on Jan. 13 due to foul trouble. She has been extremely productive in recent weeks, however. GARDNER-WEBB Liberty, which posted an win at Gardner-Webb on Jan. 13, will look to complete its first regular-season sweep of the Runnin' Bulldogs since the season. Liberty has notched six straight home victories over Gardner-Webb since the Runnin' Bulldogs' lone victory at the Vines Center, a decision on Feb. 8, The Lady Flames' 25-point win at Gardner-Webb earlier this season was a bit of an outlier in the teams' head-to-head series. Twelve of 22 all-time matchups between Liberty and Gardner-Webb have been decided by 10 points or fewer. Last season's two meetings were decided by a total of five points. Gardner-Webb senior guard Tierra Huntsman ranks second in the Big South at 15.3 ppg, while classmate Alexus Hill sits fourth at 14.4 ppg. Liberty limited the duo to 16 combined points on 5-of-18 from the field on Jan. 13. Sophomore guards Carley and Savannah Plentovich are the latest in a series of twins Rick Reeves has coached over the years. Twins Sarah and Sharon Wilkerson played a key role in Liberty's first three Big South titles during Reeves' tenure in Lynchburg. Reeves spent nine seasons ( through ) as Liberty's head coach, guiding the Lady Flames to Big South championships in 1997, 1998 and LAST MEETING WITH GARDNER-WEBB JAN. 13, 2018 LIBERTY 85, GARDNER-WEBB 60 BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (PAUL PORTER ARENA) Liberty raced out to a lead after one quarter and never looked back. The Lady Flames shot 51.6 percent for the game, hitting nine three-pointers. Ola Makurat scored 17 of her career-high 20 points during the first half for the Lady Flames. KK Barbour added 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Savannah Plentovich paced the Runnin' Bulldogs with 15 points, but the duo of Tierra Huntsman and Alexus Hill managed just 16 total points on 5-of-18 shooting. PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES Liberty has survived a grueling travel schedule to begin the season, playing 14 road/neutral games in seven different states (Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia). The Lady Flames spent 11 nights in seven different hotels in the 17 days between Nov and have racked up 22 total hotel nights this season. Liberty has flown through 11 different airports already this season, including Atlanta (during the Dec. 17 power outage), Charlotte, Charlottesville, Des Moines, Detroit, Dulles, Hartford, Kansas City, Lynchburg, O'Hare and Raleigh/Durham. Due to the Dec. 17 power outage at the Atlanta Airport, a majority of the Liberty travel party had to bus 800 miles from Atlanta to Kansas City the next day. LADY FLAMES AT THE VINES CENTER Liberty is 8-0 at home this season and is looking for its first 9-0 start at the Vines Center since the Lady Flames went a perfect 13-0 on their home court. Liberty is the only Big South women's basketball team which is unbeaten at home this season. The Lady Flames have also played the fewest home games of any Big South team. This is the Lady Flames' 28th season of basketball at the Vines Center. The Lady Flames are all-time at the facility, including under Head Coach Carey Green. LADY FLAMES IN THE BIG SOUTH Liberty is alone atop the Big South standings at 9-1. The Lady Flames' next victory will give them 10 or more Big South wins for the 19th straight season. Chattanooga, Green Bay and Stanford are the nation's only other teams which entered with an active streak of 18 straight seasons with 10+ wins within the same conference. High Point owns the second-longest active streak among Big South teams, entering with six consecutive seasons of 10+ conference victories. Green paced the Lady Flames in points (12.3 ppg) and rebounds (8.1 rpg) in , earning Big South Freshman of the Year and VaSID State Rookie of the Year honors. This season, Green tops Big South players with 16.3 ppg in conference play, including a 19.8 ppg scoring average in her last five games. She has led the Lady Flames in scoring in four of the last five games. The following month, they traveled to Kenya together on an Athletes in Action basketball tour. MEMORABLE SUMMER, PART 2 Sophomore Iva Ilic represented Croatia in the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship Division B during July in Eilat, Israel, helping her team capture the bronze medal. 4 Ola Makurat Ashtyn Baker has opened her collegiate career in style, earning Big South Freshman of the Week honors on Nov. 13, Dec. 4 and Dec. 27.
