5 SPECIAL TEAMS SUCCESS KICKOFF RETURNS Miami averaged yards per return, ranking seventh nationally and 2nd in the ACC (0.88 behind Florida State). Miami s KOR average is the fourth highest in school history. Eight different players returned a kickoff in 2013 Stacy Coley, Duke Johnson, Phillip Dorsett, Herb Waters, Artie Burns, Malcolm Lewis, Jamal Carter and Corn Elder. Stacy Coley was the first UM player since Devin Hester in 2004 to return a kickoff and punt in the same season. He averaged 22.0 yards per punt return and 26.0 yards per kick return. Duke Johnson averaged yards per kick return before suffering a season-ending injury. Artie Burns averaged 26.1 yards per kick return. PUNT RETURNS Miami averaged yards per return, ranking 30th nationally and 3rd in ACC behind only UNC and Duke. BLOCKED KICKS Miami blocked two kicks (one FG, one PAT) including one returned for a touchdown. It was the most blocks by Miami in the last seven seasons. Artie Burns blocked the FG, while Olsen Pierre blocked a PAT. Dallas Crawford and Tyriq McCord also blocked a punt. Miami s four combined kicks blocked were tied for 10th nationally in It was the most combined blocked kicks at Miami in more than 10 years. KICKOFFS Miami s average kickoff return allowed was yards per return ranking 34th nationally and 4th in the ACC. Opponents average starting field position was the 20-yard line. The four-day combine will be televised live on NFL Network. QB Stephen Morris, OG Brandon Linder, OT Seantrel Henderson, WR Allen Hurns and P Pat O Donnell will be among the more than 300 prospects evaluated by all 32 NFL teams. Linder, Henderson and O Donnell will work out on Feb. 22, while Morris and Hurns will work out Feb. 23. Morris, a two-year starter under center and a 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team member, finished his career ranked third in Miami history with 7,896 passing yards and 49 touchdowns. A 2013 All-ACC third-team selection, Morris is one of only two QBs in Miami history with multiple 3,000-yard passing seasons (Gino Torretta). Linder started all 13 games along the offensive line in 2013 and concluded his career with 37 consecutive starters. He was a second-team All-ACC selection and was named the team s Offensive MVP at the end of the season. Henderson, a third-team All-ACC selection, played in 12 games along the offensive line, making eight starts at right tackle. Hurns enjoyed one of the greatest receiving seasons in program history in The second-team All-ACC receiver set a single-season school record with 1,162 receiving yards and finished with 62 receptions the third-most in a single season. He finished his career ranked seventh in both receptions (121) and receiving yards (1,891). In his one season in Coral Gables, O Donnell made a considerable impact, setting the school single-season record with a 47.1 yards-per-punt average. O Donnell booted 23 punts of 50+ yards and downed 19 inside the opponent s 20-yard line. In last two years, Miami has had SEVEN NFL Combine invites 5 on offense, 1 on defense and 1 on special teams. 8 NINE CANES NAMED ALL-ACC Nine Miami Hurricanes were selected to the 2013 All-ACC Football team by the league s 14 head coaches. GOLDEN HONORED WITH LOMBARDI AWARD Miami Hurricanes head coach Al Golden was presented with the 2013 Lombardi Award for Excellence in Coaching in December night at the 44th Rotary Lombardi Award Ceremony. The ceremony was televised live on CBS College Sports. Legendary BYU coach LaVell Edwards presented Golden with the award. What a great honor to receive this award from Coach Edwards, Golden said in his acceptance speech. I humbly dedicate this award to the 2013 Miami Hurricanes. They overcame a lot of adversity over the last three years. And in so doing, they taught us a lot about perseverance, and leadership itself, and - maybe perhaps - overall about class.
