MARC TRESTMAN QUOTES 2013 REGULAR SEASON GAME #16 Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers Sunday, December 29, Soldier Field - Chicago, IL Opening Statement I think I ll just start out by saying I left a locker room of some very, very disappointed players and coaches. I thought our guys came to play tonight. They played hard. They were resilient, coming off a first half where some odd things happened. They played hard up until the end. It wasn t enough. Congratulations to Mike McCarthy [Green Bay head coach] and the Packers for winning the division. Wish them well. Just to give you a little bit of feedback from the game (first half), I thought offensively, other than the one touchdown we had, we really didn t muster anything. We didn t take advantage of Devin s [Hester] return, into our end of the field. Our defense forced two turnovers in the first half. We weren t able to get much out of. We had a roughing the passer penalty and then we had the very unusually situation where nobody picked up the ball, which is something we re all disappointed about. But, at the end-of-the-day, we re down six at half time. Our guys came back, they rebounded. They didn t have any quit in them. You have to give the Packers credit, they came back, were able to convert on three fourth downs and Aaron Rodgers made the play that a player like him can make. He found a way to win the game with a great play. Very disappointed, as I said, for our players. Very disappointed for our fans, but really proud of the effort they put in today. On what happened on the winning touchdown play We had a blitz on and we lost an edge. Aaron was able to get outside and, once he got outside, things happened. When you have a zero blitz on, things can happen. We just lost coverage with our eyes in the backfield. On whether it was man or zone defense on the winning touchdown play It s man coverage. On what the defensive strategy was on the winning touchdown play The thinking, that s a fair question. The thinking is we can sit back in zone and give him the opportunity to make a play, or we can try to make him rush the throw and we had good pressure on. Kuhn [John] just got an edge, just got a piece of Pep [Julius Peppers] and Aaron was able to slip outside. It s not easy to go to your left and make a play like that and he did. What can happen if a quarterback breaks contain in a zero blitz like that it leaves a lot of field for any defender to have to cover. On the unusual fumble for touchdown play in the first half We talk about all the time. There s never been a time the whole year where I ve blown the whistle in practice and the ball is on the ground that we didn t pick it up and scoop and score with it. So, for me to try to explain why that happened, I really can t this time because we never allow the ball to sit on the ground like that at any time in practice. On whether he heard the whistle blow on the fumble for touchdown Yeah, that s the point. It didn t blow. That s why they allowed it to be a touchdown after I think it was Boykin [Jarrett]. On why anybody would stop playing on the fumble for touchdown I can t answer that question right now. I really can t. Twenty two players basically stopped. Eleven [Jarrett Boykin] probably got the word from the sideline to pick the ball up, because it was over on their side. Both teams stopped. So, that s why it s such an unusual situation. Nobody got on the football.

On his reaction to the fumble for touchdown play I didn t hear a whistle. So you know, I was as curious as everybody else. Why, why, nobody was moving towards the ball. Nobody. And certainly, completely disappointed as I told our players, no one play is going to make a difference in the game, that was a highly unusual play, no doubt about it. There are a lot of different ways to win a football game. Offensively, we only had 49 plays today, 21 in the first half. Part of that is the offense s own doing. We didn t convert on a couple of third-downs. We didn t make anything out of Devin s return. Our whole football team was able to gather themselves at halftime. It was a very good locker room at halftime. The understanding that we were only down by six, after all that happened. The roughing the passer penalty that got them a field goal and then the ball on the ground; it got them 10 points right there. So for our guys they didn t even flinch at halftime. Good locker room. Guys were ready to play. We knew we could move the football, we knew we could move it on the ground or in the air. We were going to get our opportunities. Defensively, our guys felt good they could make the stops. On the roughing the passer penality (against the Bears) I can t I m not going to comment on that. It s a subjective opinion by the officials. We all saw it. I ll just leave it at that. On whether he thought the play clock expired on the 4 th No, I did not. and inches play On what he thinks needs to be done to the team moving forward I won t go there. It s a fair question for another time. I just don t think it s a fair question after this game. The questions that relate to the game, I m more than happy but to get into I think it s fair that at some time we will talk about that, but I just don t think it s tonight. On Matt Forte s strong running They really didn t play the game we thought they were going to play. We were able to adjust to it. They came out and played a lot more zone coverage then we expected. They were playing shell coverages, which allowed us, a little bit softer front, we were able to start getting it up a little bit. I thought Matt ran really well. Eben Britton coming in the game for Jordan [Mills] right from the start, playing a full game like that. I can t comment on how Evan played on every play, but certainly running the ball effectively and he was a part of that, which is a good thing. Matt had a heck of a game. He played as hard as he could play. You could feel him on the sidelines running, cutting, doing everything he could. All our guys played that way. I thought our guys came to play tonight and I thought they played hard, but we didn t play well enough to win. The reasons on the scoreboard, we didn t play well enough to win. It starts with me. On how he thought Jay Cuttler played I thought Jay played very well tonight. I don t even know what the stats were. The first third down we had called, really we got boxed into a coverage we didn t expect them to play. They did a good job. You have to give credit to Dom [Capers] on that. And then we were able to dial into some things. I thought he threw the long ball well. He gave guys a chance to make plays, which you know the long ball. I thought he was efficient throwing the ball inside. I thought he was in total command on what was going on out there. Again, that s premature, but my feeling was he was in command of our offense tonight. On whether he thought Jay felt pressure to play well I m not in the outside world. I would suspect that you know a Green Bay game, rivalry game, a game that s going to play for a championship game. The speculation is let s see how he does at this kind of stage. I thought Jay played well enough for us to win tonight. On Jay Cutler s season Oh, I don t know. I think that s a question that we ll look back on. It s such a chaotic season with him starting the first part of the season then coming in later and getting hurt and all the things that happened. I think that s something for a later evaluation. Tonight I thought he ran our football team very, very efficiently.

Again, on how the receiver was wide open on the winning touchdown The answer is exactly as I said, originally. When you have an all-out blitz on you re leaving the back-end one-on-one. What you re counting on happening is that blitz is going to get there so he s got to get rid of the ball. So it s not going to be a six-second play. And once Aaron Rodgers got outside the pocket, anything can happen. You have to marvel at the fact that he was going to his left and made that kind of throw. If you re going to run a quarterback out of the pocket, you want him to go to the opposite of his arm. And he s a great player. It s hard for any defender to hold onto coverage for that long. Once you get outside the pocket and have that much space to work with.

BEARS PLAYER QUOTES 2013 REGULAR SEASON GAME #16 Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers Sunday, December 29, Soldier Field - Chicago, IL Jay Cutler, QB On swing of emotions That s a tough one to swallow. Like you said, Right there knocking on the door. That play didn t lose the game for us. Looking back on the season, there s one play here and there that - beginning of the game, end of the game, middle of the game - if we make it a few of those we re in a different spot. Offensively, we got kicked off on three-and-outs a few too many times early. We settled in. Kind of got them figured out. Started rolling a little bit. That third down to Alshon (Jeffery), I wish I could have pushed it out a few more inches and kept the drive going. It is those little things along the course of a game that you wish you could have back especially when it ends that way. On touchdown pass to Brandon Marshall It was heck of a play. Wasn t sure what they were going to do. They had an all-out blitz. I thought they were kind of just bluffing. Then get a bail out cause they were doubling B (Brandon Marshall) down there pretty much all game. I left the run on. Then I pulled last second. Just threw one up to B, and he did what he does best is make a play for us. On if the offense did enough to win I don t think you ever get in a situation where the offense did enough, did the defense do enough. Like I said, if we had been more efficient on third down early in the game. If we had converted that third down with three or four minutes to go, it might be a different outcome. So, we lost as a team. Just like if we had made some plays early on, we would have won as a team. On the feeling in the locker room at halftime All the things that happened that first half, and we were right where we wanted to be. Defense did a good job coming out, getting a stop and getting us the ball. Weird, weird first half with a roughing the passer call, fumble touchdown. It s just a weird, weird turn of events for us. On the 67-yard pass to Alshon Jeffery in the third quarter Great call. Great call. They were playing us in two-man. They were following B (Brandon Marshall) around. The safety was kind of lingering. So, [we] just had a double move out there. Two verticals. Alshon made a great catch for us. It was a heck of a call on Tres (Mark Trestman) part. On the season of Matt Forte He s underrated, I think, in the public s eye. He did a heck of a job for us. I think he s the best all-around back in the NFL. You leave him in there on third down, he pass protects. We throw him the ball (on) check downs. He had 60-plus catches this year. He ran the heck out of the ball, up the middle and on the edge. Glad he s on our team. Each week, how can we get Matt the ball? We got to get him more touches. We got to get him more touches. He s fun to play with. On wanting to stay in this offense You d love to predict the future. I m not really going to get into what s going to happen. It always works out how it s supposed to. Unfortunately, I only got 45 plays tonight. They controlled the clock well. Early in the game, we went three-and-out too much. We would ve liked to have [had] plays. On the feelings of controlling contract situation I think we ll deal with that later in the week. Right now, [I m] kind of living in the moment. I m a little upset about the game and how it went. This locker room is never going to be the same. Miss some guys. Some guys are going to leave. Some guys are going to stay. It s part of the business.

On his play against the Packers I think I touched on it. Didn t convert some third downs. We were pretty efficient in the red zone. But didn t make enough plays to win though. That s what it boiled down to. We got the loss. I thought Eben (Britton) did a great job filling in there for Millsy (Jordan Mills). We didn t really miss a beat. Brandon (Marshall) and Alshon (Jeffery) played a great on the outside. Matt Forte ran his tail off. We got the young kid (Marquess Wilson) a catch. He played for Earl, cause he was out. Got him a catch. He didn t blink. The lights weren t too bright for him. That was good to see.

BEARS PLAYER QUOTES 2013 REGULAR SEASON GAME #16 Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers Sunday, December 29, Soldier Field - Chicago, IL PAGE 1 OF 2 Brandon Marshall, Wide Receiver On his thoughts and emotions about the last play of the game The first thing I thought about was picking my head up. I laid there for a few seconds and I knew that wasn t a good look, so I immediately thought of Ray Lewis when he lost to, I believe, the Patriots, and I thought about Lebron James when he walked off the court in Orlando Arena and didn t shake anyone s hand and I just tried to figure out the best way to move forward, as fast as possible, and you know Ray Lewis picked himself up and put a smile on his face. Won the Superbowl the next year. On the feeling of losing It hurts pretty bad, but I am proud of the guys. We fought hard, we dealt with adversity all year. Today, was nothing short of that. Came down to a fourth and ten and then came down to 38 seconds with the offense with the ball, so I knew it was going to come down to who had the ball last. Unfortunately we did have enough time on the clock to get it done. On did it feel like one of those weird/crazy kind of games No, it wasn t a weird way to finish the season, it was a tough way to finish the season. Thankful, definitely thankful for the opportunity we had to control our own density and you can t ask for anything more than that and we didn t get it done. Aaron Rodgers led his team today. They won. We didn t get it done and he made some big plays, few big plays on the fourth down. We were in position, we just didn t get it done. On the last touchdown catch attempt from Jay (Cutler) They were going to play one-on-one outside and we were going to throw a fade route slant, hitch route, hot route, whatever we had single outside, whether me or Alshon (Jeffery). They played around a bit and had some disguises; we didn t know what they were doing. At first they were going to double me, and they came in and he gave a dumbie call and bounced out. Then he came back in and nobody knew he was coming, so Jay (Cutler) left the run on actually, at the last second I guess he just threw it up because it was the look to throw it, but he called the run play and I just came off and made a play on the ball. On starting a run block on that play I was going to, and then I saw the ball in the air, so it was kind of in between I didn t know. I wanted to tell Jay (Cutler) that they were bluffing us a bit, give us the one-on-one look, but he left the run on, so I kept my eyes inside a little bit just in case, but I was definitely in position to block, but I saw the ball up and good thing I got my head around, wish it was the game winner. On wanting Jay (Cutler) to come back next season That s a funny question, man. You know how I feel about Jay. That s my quarterback. We are attached the hip. On sensing if Jay (Cutler) wants to come back next season Jay will be back. Jay will be back. So all these stories for the offseason, you guys can...put that at the bottom. Write everything you have to say and then just say Brandon (Marshall) said Jay (Cutler) will be back. Just like I said Jay (Cutler) will be back from the groan injury, Jay (Cutler) will be back in a contract year. On having inside information as to if Jay (Cutler) is coming back I don t have any inside information but he s a heck of a player and that is my quarterback.

PAGE 2 OF 2 On knowing that Aaron Rodgers is in this division Listen, I m glad he played today. We had their best shot. You want to control your destiny and you want a team s best shot. We showed that we can play with them. It came down to, like I said, the forth and ten. It was going to come down to who had the ball last. Unfortunately we had 38 seconds [left] and didn t have enough time on the clock. That s all you can ask for. It s not lopsided [game]. You know Green Bay, 75% chance I mean 75% chance to win and, you know, Bears 25%. You know it s 50/50 and they won today and it s going to be like that moving forward. On if this is (Matt) Forte s best game I am not sure, I have to watch tape, but he played hard. Just like all of the other guys. He has been leading us all year and opening it up all year. From the running game to the passing game, so I m glad to be his teammate and I am proud of him. On Jay (Cutler) changing the offense this year Jay (Cutler) has done a great job. You know you got to understand that this is a new offense and very sophisticated offense so for us to move from last in the league, bottom of the list in the league on offense, to top 10 says a lot about Jay and the guys working hard to understand it. It s a mental thing, and physically, we know what we can do too. Coaches are going to put us in positions to be successful. For us to pick it up mentally, starting with Jay (Cutler). You know those days in OTAs where he had the rookies in the hotel leading those guys and getting it on the board, these are the hours he put in before the season even started. I can only imagine where he is going to be in our unit and our unit next year.

BEARS PLAYER QUOTES 2013 REGULAR SEASON GAME #16 Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers Sunday, December 29, Soldier Field - Chicago, IL James Anderson, LB On Boykin s TD after Rodgers fumble We all thought it was a dead ball. That was why everyone kind of stopped. It was a big play. We need to make sure that we hear the whistle. I thought I did [hear the whistle], but I don t even know initially if anyone else knew that it was a live ball. On being programmed to pick up any loose ball I guess the one time that you don t, it hurts you. But that is neither here nor there. That was one play in the game and we still had an opportunity to win. On being coached to react to any ball on the ground We preach turnovers. So any time you get a chance to get the ball, you want to try to get it. On what the fumble looked like as it happened I don t know what everyone else saw, but you did see an arm coming forward and you assumed dead ball. But you have to play to the whistle. On how tough it is to end the season like this That is a tough call there. We had the opportunity to get off the field and just have to make a play. On losing two consecutive games to clinch the division I don t know what you say. Guys fought hard, you didn t see anybody quit. Today Green Bay just had a better day. Tim Jennings, CB On whether Rodgers seemed to improve as the game went on I mean, he was Aaron Rodgers throughout the game. He made some plays, he gave us some plays and that s the NFL. But he made the plays when it counts. There weren t any improvements from him because I didn t see him down at all. He was Aaron Rodgers. On summing up the entire afternoon The only way you can put it is that we didn t play well enough. We fought for four quarters, they fought for four quarters, it came down to the last play of the game or the last minute. They made a play at the end and we didn t. As you can see, it has been that type of season for us, up and down. But we still found a way to fight. On the 4 th down TD pass Well, we had a little miscommunication, but we had an opportunity as a defense to make a play. We brought it, but that was Aaron Rodgers being Aaron Rodgers. He found an open receiver down the field and that was definitely what it was. Every guy has to be held accountable for what their job is, and we just didn t get it done. It wasn t man-toman, it was one of those check zones, fire zones. I think we blitzed everybody. We need to make a play in the back end, we can t allow that. But like I said, that was Aaron Rodgers buying time, finding an open man. That is one thing about when you blitz, there is going to be somebody open if you can buy enough time. Devin Hester, KR/PR On whether the NFL return record was on his mind this afternoon The biggest thing on my mind was me giving our offense good field position. I know when I give our offense good field position, we usually put points on the board. They did kick it to us a couple times at the beginning, but we knew once we hit them once or twice, there would be a couple bloops. We just came up short today.

On how it hurt to lose the way the Bears did It s tough. We have players in this locker room that we know are never going to play, this locker room will never be the same. That s just the way the business goes. And then there are guys like [Julius Peppers] and older guys that don t know whether they want to continue with their career, it s tough for those type of guys. To lose it like this is tough. On if he has given thought to his contract situation I really want to know right away. I am the type of guy, I don t want to go through the whole offseason not knowing where I am going to be at. I want to retire as a Bear. I put in too much hard work here and did a lot of things around here. I am pretty sure the fans want me back. So, who knows? On the frustration of this loss It s tough. Especially for it to come down this close. This is the closest you will ever see someone lose a playoff spot. How many seconds left were there? Thirty seven seconds and they were on the 50- yard line where they weren t going to kick a field goal. It s hard, it s hard to swallow. Matt Forte, RB On what was going through his head on Green Bay s final drive What was going through my mind was that I wish we would have kept the ball longer. That one drive we had a penalty that backed us up and we weren t able to make that one first down when we were driving a bit. If we could have done that, we maybe could have gotten a field goal. On the frustration of not making the playoffs We were in the position we needed to be in. We could have locked it up last week and we couldn t do that. We had everything lined up and we couldn t come through. We have nobody to blame except ourselves. On the success of the running game That s the way we expect things to go. If we can get the running game going, that takes the pressure off of him and he can work the open receivers on those deep throws. On the running game opening up the passing game Running against them takes a lot of pressure off of the quarterback. Also on third downs we can then get deep throws down the field and make them back off and then start running the ball again. Not just this game, but every game it is really important to establish the run.

MIKE McCARTHY QUOTES 2013 REGULAR SEASON GAME #16 Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers Sunday, December 29, Soldier Field - Chicago, IL Opening Statement First of all, I would like to congratulate the Chicago Bears team on a great season. What a great football game to be a part of. The Chicago Bears organization is such a classy organization. Marc Trestman has done a great job. What a battle that [game] was today. I m very proud of our football team, particularly what we ve been doing down the stretch. We needed to do what we had to do today. I think today s game was pretty much a microcosm of our season. I feel like I ve been saying that now for a couple of weeks. I just can t say enough about the fight. You talk about the guts, the grit and the final achievement, the glory that we were able to accomplish here on the field this afternoon. Offensively, we scored some points. Defensively, I thought we had a better first half, going up against a great offense. Special teams I mean, what can you say about Devin Hester? You try to control him with ball placement, but he causes you fits every time we play him. He obviously did a good job today. Just a great, great team win clearly one of our finer moments in our time in Green Bay. It s great to take the NFC North crown and take it home. On the 4 th and 8 play It was kind of a check route call. I wasn t expecting empty pressure, but they went for it. I think John Kuhn, as I saw it, did a great job coming over and just kind of clipping getting enough on Julius Peppers. Aaron [Rodgers] and Randall [Cobb] just made a phenomenal play - those two guys making a great, great play that will be running on the highlight reel for the rest of my time on this earth. What a great finish. On what that play means for both Rodgers and Cobb returning from injury I think Aaron and Randall show how they can impact a game. It was clearly evident tonight. On whether the first 4 th down on the Bears 22 yard line was a tough call It was a very tough call. We only had one timeout. Clearly the response of the players with one timeout it was the right call. If I didn t go for it, I might have looked back at that with some regrets. Our guys went and got it. We had three fourth downs on the final drive, so it was great, great resiliency from our football team. On his message to the team in the locker room I didn t get to talk in the locker room. We have the captains speak right before the game and he gets to speak at the conclusion of the locker room celebration. He s supposed to go after the head coach, but then Dietrich-Smith jumped right in front of me. I was having fun I had no problem with it. I will get to talk to the team tomorrow. On his message to the team before the game Oh I thought that s what you asked me. On the performance of Aaron Rodgers I thought Aaron played great. We can sit here and talk about what he didn t do, but I think we can clearly focus on what he did do. They challenged us schematically. The run game was hard. Our guys did a great job. He kept us in clean plays. We tried to get him some throws early. The vertical game was there. You hope and wish for people to play like that and ultimately Aaron got it done down the stretch. We scored a bunch of points, so I think that clearly reflects how he played offensively. When you re in the no-huddle, a lot of that is on the quarterback.

On the fumble play that was run in for a TD I think Edgar Bennett from the sideline was telling him, Keep running, keep running, because there was no signal or anything from the officials. Jarrett Boykin did a great job of just keeping playing. Obviously we learn this from a young age and it s still true in professional sports and in professional football, we just have to keep playing and keep playing through those types of situations. It was obviously a huge, huge play in the game. On whether it was all-go on the 4 th and 8 play The Bears went empty, and then we we call it I m embarrassed to say on camera what we call it. Randall Cobb saw their guy squat on him, so he was able to take off and Aaron was able to get outside and get the ball to him. [Comment from reporter That is not an easy throw. There are very few people who can make that throw.] Oh yeah. I think that speaks to Aaron s athletic ability. His ability to throw the football and the ability to throw the ball from all different angles. Aaron is a tremendous athlete. On the 180-degree difference from last week s post-game speech where he stated the Packers were probably out of the playoff race I got it right this week. [Laughs] On the Packers pass protection for Aaron Our guys did a good job. Once again, the Bears challenged us. We saw more pressure on the first series than I think they ve shown in eight weeks. They have very low pressure totals. Obviously, Mel Tucker called a different game than he has been calling, which I appreciate and respect. Everything was on the line and he came after us. I thought our run-blocking unit and both James Starks and Eddie Lacy ran hard and picked up tough yards. It was a challenge all the way around. On the health of Eddie Lacy I can t say enough about Eddie Lacy and what he pushed through. I know he aggravated the ankle early and aggravated it again in the third quarter. But he just keeps playing. He s as tough as they come. On the Packers WR corps Yards after the catch is something we take a lot of pride in and we thought it was going to be important to do that today, especially if they gave us the opportunity. And obviously with all the pressure, we had those opportunities. On whether he feels the Packers are a team of destiny I feel like a team that just won a divisional championship. We have an excellent opponent in the 49ers coming to Lambeau, assuming they win today not sure if that s been decided yet. Playoff football is different. Frankly, I m thankful we ve had the opportunity to play in these games because there s nothing like current experience that you need to carry it forward. We ve been playing playoff football for the last three or four weeks. We ll be ready to go. On whether this game is special It s the best one right now, I can tell you that. That s how you feel in these kinds of games. It is definitely one of those games when you are sitting on a porch one day and it will come up in conversation. During retirement, of course!

PAGE 1 OF 3 Aaron Rodgers, QB On the fumble play I knew right away that it was an open hand from me. After the Bears linebacker didn t scoop it up, I wasn t sure if they were going to wave it off. Either way, I was going to go over there and pick it up, and nobody on their team did. (Jarrett) Boykin finally picked it up, and I looked back at Clete (Blakeman), and he was looking at us. So, I think myself and everybody on the sidelines was telling Boykin to start running in one of the crazier plays that I ve been a part of. On 4 th and 8 It was crazy. I missed a couple of passes on that drive, but it was a character drive there for sure. Mike (McCarthy) letting us go for it there. We had the wrong formation on the 4 th and 1. I was able to get us into a legal formation. John (Kuhn) snuck up in there about a footenough to get us the first down. On the wide side of the field, a timing pattern to Jordy (Nelson) a tough catch, a low one to keep the drive going. Missed Jordy later in the drive. And, the fourth down. I think in situations like this, it s always good to highlight the unsung heroes in the play, and it was definitely John Kuhn, as usual, the guy making the smart play at the right time. They brought empty pressure. They checked to it late. I was trying to hit Jordy right away. The safety rolled out quickly. As I looked outside, I saw that Julius (Peppers) was coming free, and I was going to try and elude him, which the chances of that are pretty slim. John comes out of nowhere and cuts him. I was able to get the edge and find Randall (Cobb). In my peripheral, I saw, I looked outside to make sure we had a big play there, and, from the throw that I missed Andrew Quarless on earlier that drive, I knew I had to get a little bit on it just to make sure I didn t way underthrow him. And, when that ball came down in the endzone, it was just pandemonium. On where that play ranks in his career Right near the top. PACKERS PLAYERS QUOTES 2013 REGULAR SEASON GAME #16 Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers Sunday, December 29, Soldier Field - Chicago, IL On whether he felt the Shea McClellin hit early was dirty I didn t see who hit me. I may have asked Shea if that was him. We had a conversation earlier in the game I think it might have been in the first series. I was just joking around with him and said he had the opportunity to apologize. I don t think he s a dirty player, or that it was a dirty play at all. On whether 4 th and 8 protection was instinctive (by John Kuhn) We have a lot of trust in John. John actually makes some protection calls from time to time. I actually to be honest wasn t aware he was screaming a protection call, but he got us in a good protection call there and was coming over to get his responsibility, which was the nickel, who was in the strong side B-gap. The left tackle didn t hear the check. We actually squeezed down, which would have been the adjustment for the original protection, and John in his intelligence and great reactions just came across and cut Julius. John Kuhn is a big time football player. On if Randall Cobb made an instinctive play on 4 th and 8 No, that was the route. He had a vertical, but I didn t think that was going to happen. On how often he expects to see that coverage on 4 th and 8 I saw the check. The safety was still kind of high. It looked like they were trying to relay it quickly, so I thought that I was able to get Jordy [Nelson] on just a quick sight adjustment and get him the ball with enough space to probably get the first down, but once I caught the safety roll down very hard, as I took my eyes outside the number two, I saw Julius [Peppers], and then I saw the flash that was Kuhn.

PAGE 2 OF 3 On finally being cleared to play It was a lot of joy and excitement. It was tough to watch from the sidelines, but I have to give our guys a lot of credit for fighting through some difficult periods of the season and to put us in a position to be right here and be division champions, host a home playoff game. This has been a wild season; there has been a lot of stuff that s happened to get us to this point, from a comeback to get a tie, to a comeback in Dallas to win, a 61-yard field goal from Baltimore to give us a little edge there, to Detroit, and then there was today a sack/fumble that goes for a touchdown to a 4 th and 8 to win the game. On the interception Yeah, I didn t see him. He had Andrew (Quarless) on the play. That was again another empty pressure, and I was able to elude the end, and the guys were kind of working for me, and he just fell off of Andrew at the last second. It was just an uncharacteristic decision there. Luckily, it didn t come back to hurt us too much. On how his collarbone held up It felt good. I really didn t take any major shots. I slid a couple of times, I guess. The guys kept me really clean up front. I didn t really take a lot of shots after I threw it. The protection was very, very good. When you run the football, it alleviates some of the pressure, but with their pass rush, they had planned to come in and stop the run. I think it was their first objective. They played a lot of single-high safety, and actually rolled him down there early, so we had to make some adjustments to that, but overall, the pass protection was really good. On whether he feels the Packers are a dangerous team to face in the postseason Well, we re in right now, and that s the most important thing. We re hosting a playoff game. I think the NFC is wide open. I think from 1 to 6 there are a lot of talented teams. There are some teams that haven t been up as the lead dog before but wanted to, and some teams with some championship experience sitting down at the bottom half. On having another shot at the 49ers I haven t really thought about it. I m just going to enjoy this win. It was a special moment. There s nothing like a road victory, especially on this stage here, where we had to win or otherwise we re going home. There were a lot of opportunities for us to give up, and we just kept believing in each other. I m proud of our guys, and I m just thankful for the opportunity. I feel very blessed. I appreciate the prayers from all of the fans and obviously my friends and family. But, it s a great group of guys, and I just want to keep this journey going. On whether he felt rusty I felt good. I was throwing the ball the way I wanted to. I missed some, but the weather and the cold probably had something to do with that. It s a tough place to play in December here. I didn t feel any rust. I just missed a couple of passes, and unfortunately, they went for interceptions. It was a tough environment. I m going to get better as the weeks go on, and I continue to get back into the swing of things, but that run (where I slid) was just reactionary that I knew we had 3 or 4 or 5 yards to get, and I was able to get the necessary yardage, when my calves started cramping up somehow in this temperature, and I was able to gut through that. On if being away from the game made him realize football s importance Yeah, it s something I ve always wanted to do. I feel very blessed to have this job. I m fortunate to be a part of a great organization and an incredible fan base. I think there s an expectation that you re going to lay it on the line for your teammates and your organization, and that s what I wanted to do today. I know my guys did the same thing, and we came up with a big win.

PAGE 3 OF 3 On whether he felt the pressure on his shoulders during the last drive No, not really. I never think that way. I just think about doing my job and making the right throws and right decisions. I think when you re sitting on the sidelines and watching, you re reminded that it s not the incredible passes or incredible scheme that gets the job done; it s the simple plays done well. Throw the ball on time. Throw it accurately and good things happen. On whether this team is an emotional team This is a special group of guys who have been through a lot. Losing two of the first three, then winning four in a row. I get hurt. We had a rough stretch there where we didn t win for five weeks. Then a couple of one-point games. Then a tough one last week. So, it s been a roller coaster season. I think you have to applaud the organization and Mike (McCarthy) and his staff for keeping the guys focused and keeping them together. There were multiple times where guys could have fractioned off or said the heck with this season, that it s not going to happen. The guys just kept believing in each other, and I m just fortunate along with Randall [Cobb], who is coming up next here to be back out there and hook up a couple of times. Player, POS On On

PACKERS PLAYERS QUOTES 2013 REGULAR SEASON GAME #16 Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers Sunday, December 29, Soldier Field - Chicago, IL Randall Cobb, WR On when he knew he was open on the 4 th and 8 play As soon as I came off the ball, I actually had a hook route about ten or twelve yards, but I saw that the safety was flat-footed, so I just threw my hands up and stayed on the move, and Aaron [Rodgers] was able to find me. It s kind of a locked route, but I knew with the play called that there was nobody in the area that I was going to be running to, so I just communicated by throwing my hand up, and Aaron was able to find me. On how that play felt as it was happening It felt like the ball was in the air for so long! I had a bunch of thoughts going through my head: You better not drop this. If you drop it they re going to kill you. You better catch it. Just catch the ball. Body-catch it if you have to. Do what you have to do, just make the catch. On his first touchdown catch I actually had a corner route on that play. The DB was playing outside. I was trying to run my corner, but he was right there. I stopped. Again, I knew that nobody was going to be in that area. So, Aaron was able to find me again. On whether being away allowed him to understand how much football meant to him Definitely. When I woke up this morning, just laying in bed actually, I don t think I slept last night, I was so excited to play again- I was like a little kid. I m just grateful for the opportunity to put the green and gold back on and play. It was kind of a surreal day for me. On whether he expected to play more Actually, I expected to play less. We had in our plan that I was going to be on a snap count. It wasn t going to be as many reps as I would have liked, but the way the game was going, I was doing well. I actually didn t take me first hit until that touchdown at the end of the game. So, I didn t take any hits today, so that kind of helped out.

PACKERS PLAYERS QUOTES 2013 REGULAR SEASON GAME #16 Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers Sunday, December 29, Soldier Field - Chicago, IL Evan Dietrich-Smith, C On the game-winning TD catch It s a great player making a great play at a big moment. Aaron [Rodgers] escaped and Randall [Cobb] got open. We were trying to make a check at the line and I don t know if everyone was on the same page, but we made it work and we scored a touchdown. On winning the NFC North Division It s big time, especially to get the guys back at the end of the season and come down here and win a game like this on the road it says a lot to the character of the guys of this team. I can t be prouder of them. We went out there and battled. We battled for 60 minutes to give ourselves a chance at the end and we capitalized. Eddie Lacy, RB On winning the game on such a big stage I m excited. I don t know the words right now. To be able to come and get a win like this means a lot personally, being a rookie, and for us as a team and an organization. On the second half It was a completely different ballgame. It was still a tough game, but we went out and played our heart out. On winning the NFC North Division It s one of those feelings that I can t explain. I m just happy. I want to keep winning. On how fitting that Rodgers and Cobb connected on the last touchdown I think it was perfect. When he threw the ball I was following it. I didn t know who it was going to. It was in the air and I was like, Oh, it s Cobb. It was just excitement from then on. On winning the division despite all the adversity We re fighters. Every game may not go the way it s supposed to, the way we envision it going, but we never give up. We showed a lot of fight and a lot of heart. Andy Mulumba, LB On the touchdown pass to Randall Cobb I was just hoping for a miracle and I think that s what happened. It s just trusting the offense to do what they ve got to do. We have some good playmakers on offense and they did what they had to do to win the game. On the defensive adjustments after the Bears three-straight touchdowns We just have to keep playing. There were just some minor mistakes we had to adjust to. I think we did a pretty good job in the fourth quarter to keep them out of the endzone. There were just some minor mistakes we were correcting on the sidelines. On initial thoughts on the San Francisco 49ers We just have to get ready for them. It s a new game. Everyone is equal in the playoffs, so we just have to get ready for them. John Kuhn, FB On the Packers playoff chances You ve seen in the past that teams that get in late have been dangerous. We did it before and we d like to play every game as good as we can. I believe we re a tough out for anybody. On providing the block for Rodgers on the game-winning touchdown They brought a seven-up blitz and we made an adjustment. The line did a good job sealing everybody off, leaving one for me and I just tried to get as much of [Julius] Peppers as I could.

Jordy Nelson, WR On Aaron Rodgers performance It was big obviously. We believe he s the best quarterback in the league. To be gone for that many weeks and come back and play the way he did was great. It was huge. He and Randall [Cobb] both came in and played a huge part in this game. On how he felt the whole team performed I think guys played great. We had a few mistakes here and there, but for the most part we made plays across the board. Obviously, Aaron [Rodgers], like I said, he s the best quarterback in the game, but just because he walks out of the tunnel, doesn t mean we re going to win the game. Everyone else has to do their job. I think the offensive line did a great job of keeping him upright. He did a good job of getting the ball out and being smart with his situation. Finding Randall [Cobb]two times, it was fun to see Randall out there as well. On his reaction to the game-winning touchdown Obviously happy. You don t think about who it was, you re just glad that it was a touchdown and we get to move on. Those guys have battled. Randall s [Cobb] worked extremely hard in the training room to get back. Again, with his injury, it was still up in the air. We didn t know. Obviously we were in a situation not even knowing if we d have an opportunity to continue to play. To get both of those guys back and obviously play a huge part [in the game] says a lot about them and the way they prepare and stayed into the team, the offense and knowing what to do.
