1 DSC HIGH POWER RANGE COMMANDS A Guide for the HP Range Officer JANUARY 6, 2017 REVISION 1.0 Walter Opdycke

2 Introduction and Notes DSC High Power Range Officers: Thank you for your efforts! Without them, we would not have a league and because of them, I believe we have the best High Power league in Southeastern Michigan. We will continue to support those who would like to competitively shoot their Garand/Springfield/Vintage Military (VINTAGE) rifles in a separate category from the regular Service and Match rifles. We accommodate this request with only a few changes from the regular commands. I have written a version here but you do not have to slavishly follow it. Just remember whatever commands you use; they should promote safety, be consistent, and lastly, if possible enhance the shooting experience for all the shooters. We are an NRA Sanctioned league and NRA High Power Rules apply. If VINTAGE shooters are present, it is preferable that their rapid fire strings be fired separately from the service/match rifle shooters due to the difference in the allowed time. However, the range commands can also be modified to accommodate them. One way is to have two stops for rapid fire instead of the usual one stop to allow for the extra time that the VINTAGE shooters are allowed. One stop will be for the service/match rifle shooters and one is for the VINTAGE shooters and is 10 seconds longer. I am not sure what will work best, but I will start with an explanation for the service/match shooter that when they hear me yell 10 seconds their time is up. At the end of those extra 10 seconds, normal ceasefire commands are given. If there are no VINTAGE shooters please follow the standard rapid fire commands for simplicity. I would prefer that we all start in position. However, since the CMP still uses the Start for Standing commands these can be accommodated by the Range Officer at his discretion. These alternate instructions are given here: Shooters, your 3-minute prep time has ended, is any additional time required? If none, Shooters shooting the CMP course of fire, Stand. Only those shooters standing with the chambers remaining empty, load two or five rounds. Is the line ready? The line is ready. Commence fire. Start timer. Be sure to start every match with a safety briefing. The briefing should include the top three commandments of gun safety, the need to keep muzzles pointed below the berm, the use of OBIs, and that there is no handling of firearms while the line is safe.
