The Bullet Hole october 2014 Next business meeting: To be scheduled. Monthly Shoot is on December 21 st - Shooters meeting at 10:00 a.m. This year s Christmas party has been canceled Due to a number of problems, the SSS 2014 Christmas party will NOT take place. Next year s 2015 party is scheduled for the first Saturday in December of 2015 at the Carson Station Casino in Carson City, Nevada fall buffalo shoot 1
The winners are: (going from left to right) - REPEATER DIVISION 3rd place - Doc Holiday 1st place - Mark Tyme 2nd place - Smithy SINGLE SHOT DIVISION 1st place - Brier Patch 2nd place - Doc Holiday 3rd place - Big Ole 2014 Top Gun Award PETTICOAT DIVISION 3rd place - Annie Gunsinger 2nd place - Carson Kate 1st place - Daisy Single Shot - Brier Patch Repeater Smithy Petticoat - Daisy This is the last year for the Top Gun Awards. We gave out the last of the awards this shoot. 2
From our President: Hello everyone Well, another October is at an end. It was a very busy month. The monthly shoot was attended by 13 shooters and the weather was perfect. Blade Wade (our newest club member) was there for his first shoot with our club. Fargo John and Laramie Larry also shot as visiting shooters. No one cleaned the match but a couple came close. Afterward, some of us went to the Pizza Factory and lived through a couple of kid s birthday parties. The fall Buffalo Shoot was a little less attended than in the past. There are a number of reasons which might have contributed to this, not the least of which was the weather. We had a lot fewer campers than normal. The weather forecast was not good (for the weekend) so some might have chosen not to camp out. Of course, the die-hards were there and we had a good time. We had plenty of fire wood but the wind restricted us to one night of a camp fire. Big Ole and Brier Patch came to the shoot from that state to the west of us and seemed to have a good time. We are always glade to have the other state guys shoot with us. Saturday s shoot started out with the wind blowing hard and cold temperatures. Then the clouds rolled in and it rained a little. We got through the 300 yard stage but we didn t have any side shoots due to the weather. The wind actually blew down one of the buffalos! Sunday s shoot (400 & 500 yard stages) went off well in nice weather. Thanks to EVERYONE for helping tear down the range and store the equipment, even the ladies pitched in! The nightly pot-luck dinners were very good and I ate more than I should have (according to my wife). At this point, I m going to jump up on my soap-box. When we arrived at the range site (on Wednesday) we found the area littered with garbage. Old shot up TVs; all types of broken glass; full plastic trash bags; empty beer cans and water bottles and all kinds of other crap was scattered all over the area. There was even a cardboard box with a dead pet rabbit in it! The area seemed to be turning into a garbage dump. The BLM has rangers who could put a stop to this garbage dumping, but they won t do anything about it! Therefore, it is up to us (the good citizens & sportsmen) to help keep these areas clean and damn the no-good, scum-sucking, dirt- 3
bags who dump their trash in the backcountry! I ve always put my money where my mouth is so my son Dude and I spent some time picking up the trash littering the range. We carted out a 10 x5 trailer (stacked high) full of garbage and took it to the county dump. If each one of us did a little of this, the country we live in would be a lot nicer to look at. A reminder that next month s shoot will be the yearly Turkey Shoot. The top five shooters (on a selected stage) will get a frozen turkey. The bottom five shooters will get a frozen pie. I hope to see you there! Remember, we can use a little more help setting up the match each month. Sam and I will get to the range between 8:30 and 9:00 am (winter hours). Please come on by a little early and lend a hand, we can sure use the help! I hope to see you at the November monthly shoot. Shotgun Marshal Want to thank our new shooters for coming, Faro John, Blade Wade, and an old member, Larame Larry. Welcome to our shoot! There were some fairly easy stages, but because they were easy they seemed hard to shoot!!! Want to thank all of those who came early and helped me setup targets. All the help I can get is appreciated. Also, thanks to those who pulled and took back trailers. Also thanks for helping with tearing down and stages. Many thanks go out to all of those who helped out, even a little; it is appreciated. See you next month. Kate will bring some pumpkin and apple pie, for after the shoot. And remember we are giving away 5 turkeys to the top shooter of a special stage, and 5 pies to the lower shooters. The Buffalo Shoot - The Match Director Speaks: Howdy We had a nice shoot for October without the wind and not too hot. We had less than normal shooters because of the weather report, but it turned out just fine. First off, some of our members went up Wednesday and camped out. Thursday morning we met for breakfast at the Gold Rush Casino in Dayton at 9:00 a.m. Then we went back up the hill to get ready for the shoot. We had a very nice Buffalo Shoot, even though it was small. I want to especially thank Smithy, Dude, Blacksheep and Marshall for pulling and taking back all the trailers. You don't know how thankful I am for the help, as it makes it much easier of me and I wasn't hurting as much. Putting up the Buffalo targets is a job in itself, so all the help I got this time sure make it more like the club cared. Thank you so much for making this shoot a pleasure. The weather was terrible; we had winds like we have never had before. We thought it was windy the other shoots, boy, were we wrong. With the wind came a little rain, not much just enough to make it miserable, but we went ahead and shot. In between the wind gusts we tried to hit the targets, a lot of us didn't do well, but we had fun anyway. Sunday was another day and it was fine, not much wind and it make things more pleasant. Now, for the rest of the time, we had our pot luck dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, and we didn't have to push anyone out of the way. Lots of food and good people, and you can't beat that. We were glad to see Big Ole and Brier Patch come from Susanville; thanks for coming. I was the winner of the $50.00 dollar gift card. The $ went to Big Ole. Congratulations to both of us. The winners of the plaques for REPEATER were: 1 st Place - Mark Tyme; 2 nd Place - Smithy; 3 rd Place - Doc Holiday 4
The winners of the plaques for SINGLE SHOOT were: 1 st Place - Brier Patch; 2 nd Place - Doc Holiday; 3 rd Place - Big Ole The winners of the plaques for PETTICOAT were: 1 st Place Daisy; 2 nd Place - Carson Kate; 3 rd Place - Annie Gunsinger Well, another Buffalo Shoot under our belts; until May when we will do it all again. Hope everybody had a good time, I know we (Kate and I) did! Keep you powder dry...sagebrush Sam We have some new shooters and there seems to be some questions as to the rules our shoots are conducted under. So, we are starting a new newsletter section called: What is the rule? SPIRIT OF THE GAME Spirit of the Game means you fully participate in what the competition asks. A failure to engage occurs when a competitor disregards the stage instructions. The participate feels that taking a penalty would result in a lower score (or faster time) than they would get if they followed the stage instructions. This penalty is not assessed simply because a competitor makes a mistake. In such a case, in addition to any penalties or misses (5 seconds for each miss), a 30 second failure to engage/spirit of the Game penalty is assessed. Happy Birthday, Cowboy!
