1 World Games Player Selection Process Document approved by the High Performance Manager, September 206 SECTION PURPOSE The World Games National Team Program will compete in the 207 World Games. The purpose of this document is to set out the process that will be used by Ultimate Canada to select athletes to the 207 World Games team. This selection process has two objectives:. Select 20 eligible athletes (0 male/0 female) to form the Team Canada Long Roster. Athletes on the long roster are those identified by the coaches as having demonstrated potential to earn a position on the National Team. 2. From the long roster, select 4 athletes (7 male/7 seven) to form the Team Canada Final Roster. While some objective criteria will be used to select the team, it is also recognized that there is a significant subjective element. Subjective elements include such factors as previous and current performance, experience, positional requirements, leadership qualities and team cohesion. SECTION 2 ELIGIBILITY An athlete is eligible to be selected to a National Team if he/she:. Is a Competitive Registered Athlete in good standing with Ultimate Canada, 2. Meets any age requirements (if any), and 3. Meets any citizenship requirements stipulated by the organizers of the event at which the Team will be competing. Some events require a Canadian passport; players are strongly encouraged to have a valid Canadian passport well in advance of the season. Once selected to the Long Roster, all athletes will be expected to be training towards, or to meet the physical standards outlined by the coaches. These standards on their own will not be used to include or exclude an athlete from consideration for the Team, but they will be used by Ultimate Canada to measure and monitor an athlete s training, progress and preparation. SECTION 3 AUTHORITY FOR SELECTION The High Performance Manager has delegated authority for all decision-making under this policy to the Head Coach. The Head Coach has final authority for all selection decisions, including selecting athletes to the Long and Short Rosters, and selecting replacement athletes to the National Team where applicable. In making selection decisions, the Head Coach will consult with the High Performance Manager, and Document approved by the High Performance Manager, September 206
