1 Information: (M-F 8 am 5 pm) Philosophy Meridian Parks & Recreation provides this activity for those who enjoy pickleball and are interested in participating on an organized level. This is a recreational program and good sportsmanship is mandatory from those who participate. Registration 1. The team fee must be submitted by Friday, January 26 th by 5:00pm, in order to secure a spot the league for the upcoming season. All fees and the official (signed) rosters are due at the time of registration. League games will begin Sunday, February 4 th and run through Sunday, April 15th. Note that there will be NO matches played February 18 th, March 25 th, or April 1 st. a) Team Fee: $20 b) Player Fees: Meridian Resident Player fee = $10 per player Non-Meridian Resident Player fee = $20 per player NOTE: Men s Singles Players need to pay the Team Fee and their player fee. ALL FEES MUST BE PAID AT ONE TIME AND OFFICIAL (SIGNED) ROSTERS ARE DUE AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION 2. Each team should have a manager/coach who is responsible for: a) Collection and payment of all fees b) Submitting the team roster c) Informing players of rules and schedule d) Using only eligible players League Play / Schedule 1. All teams will play 6 matches that consist of 5 games or one hour and fifteen minutes (which ever comes first) during the regular season that will seed each team into a Single Elimination Tournament. If or when time expires during the 4 th or 5 th game, the score at this time is final regardless if you are winning by 2 point or less. If the score is tied, one final rally will take place to determine the winner. All your regular season games will be scheduled based on the amount of gym space available. During the creation of the schedule, the league coordinator will take into consideration each team s request but will not guarantee that each request will be met. Each team will receive the 1 st half schedule via approximately one week prior to the league starting. The schedules will also be posted on the Meridian Parks and Recreation website. The 2 nd half schedule will then be posted 2-3 weeks after the season has started. The league coordinator has
2 the ability to move teams up or down a division based on their current league record. If a team feels the need to move up or down a division after the first two games, contact the league coordinator. Teams will NOT be allowed to move up or down a division once the 2 nd half schedule is released. Teams may be move up or down when entering the playoffs. 2. League standings will be updated weekly and are available on the Meridian Parks and Recreation website, Standings will be based on number of games won. Each match will be reported as 5-0, 4-1, 3-2, etc. If a tie exists in the standings at the end of the regular season, head-to-head competition will be the first tie-breaker. If a tie still exists, a coin flip will be used. 3. Teams may request to reschedule ONE regular season game. To reschedule a regular season game, the team making the request must notify the league coordinator via 3 business days before the scheduled game. If the league coordinator is unable to reschedule the game due to unavailable gym space or the opposing team can t make what gym space is available, the game will be considered a forfeit. 4. A team may avoid a forfeit by canceling a match. Teams unable to play a scheduled match must notify the Parks and Recreation office at by 12:00 p.m. the Friday before the match or it will be considered a forfeit. Canceled matches will not be rescheduled and will still count as a 5 games to 0 match. A forfeited match will be recorded as a 5 games to 0 match. 5. All teams will be allowed two match forfeits. After the third forfeit, a team will be removed from the league for the remainder of the season with no refund. If a team drops from league competition before completing play of all scheduled matches, all of their remaining matches will be deemed as losses and all opponents will be credited with victories. 6. All games will be played on Sunday s between 2:00pm and 6:00pm at the Meridian Homecourt Facility located at 936 Tayler Ave. Meridian Idaho, Teams playing the first game of the day on their specific court are required to set up the net and teams playing the last game of the day on their specific court are required to take down the net. 8. All games won and lost MUST be reported to the site supervisor before you leave the gym. 9. Awards for each division: End of Season Tournament 1) 1 st place Individual T-shirts Mixed and Women s Teams 1. Two players are required on the court at all times. One male and one female in Mixed divisions and two women in women s divisions.
3 2. All players must be listed on the official team roster including signature. Roster additions or changes will not be accepted on the court. Teams can have a minimum of 2 players on a roster and a maximum of 4 players per roster. The official roster will only consist of players who have paid the player fee. 3. Each team can use two subs or pick-up players during the regular season only. Each team can use one sub/pick-up player in two matches or two subs/pick-up players in one match. After a team has used its subs/pick-up players, any player used as a sub/pick-up player must pay the player fee and be placed on the team roster. 4. Subs/pick-up players must be below or equal to the skill level of the player they are subbing for. 5. Subs can NOT be used during the end of season tournament. Starting Time 1. The game clock will start at the scheduled start time. If teams do not have 2 players present at the scheduled start time, it will be considered a forfeit. It is recommended that each team or player show up 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. Governing Rules 1. The City of Meridian Parks and Recreation is the sole governing body of this league. 2. USAPA rules will govern all play unless otherwise outlined in the City rules. 3. The City of Meridian Parks and Recreation department and the league coordinator reserve the right to expel any team or player from the league for reasons of conduct or failure to observe the rules, regulations, and procedures. Written notification of such actions will be provided to the team captain. NO refunds will be given. 4. Any situation not covered explicitly in these rules will be acted upon by the Program Coordinator and decisions will be made on the Coordinators best judgement for the betterment of the league. The League Coordinator reserves the right to interpret any and all rules and situations and further reserves the right to insert, delete, or change rules at any time and make retroactive decisions should it be deemed necessary for the benefit of the league or participant safety. 5. All matches will be five games or 75 minutes. Once the 75 minutes is up, the match is over. 6. There will be no officials. This is a self-officiated league. Honesty is expected at all times. 7. During regular season and tournament, games will be played to 11 points with the time limit in effect. Scores need to be said out loud before each serve. You must win by 2 points
4 8. Each match will consist of 5 games. League standings will be based on games won and lost during the season. During the tournament, the team winning at least 3 of the 5 games shall be declared the winner. 9. In tournament play, all games must be completed until a team wins at least 3 games. 10. Each team will be allowed one, one-minute time-out per game. The match clock will not stop during time outs. No time-outs will be allowed if there is 5 minutes or less left on the match clock. If play does need to be stopped when there is less than 5 minutes on the match clock for an injury, the clock will not stop. 11. The boundaries are clearly marked on the floor. If a ball hits the line, it is considered in. 12. Teams must switch sides after each game. Player/Team Eligibility 1. Players may not participate on more than one team in the same division. Please Note: If a player is playing on two teams, the league coordinator will take that into consideration when creating the schedule but cannot guarantee that both teams will not have schedule conflicts. To avoid conflicts, notify the league coordinator at the time of registration. 2. Players must be at least 16 years of age to participate and must have a parent sign a release form if under A player who is currently participating, whether active or red-shirted, on an intercollegiate team, is currently under professional contract, or is participating on an organized high school team is ineligible until the contract or the organized sport is completed or nullified. 5. Teams using an ineligible player or falsifying the line-up will be assessed the following penalties: a) Each match played by the offending team in which the ineligible player has participated will be recorded as a forfeit. b) During the tournament, only the game in which the ineligible player was discovered will be forfeited and the team will be removed from the tournament. c) The team manager will receive a 2-match suspension. A suspended manager cannot participate in the match in ANY manner. 6. All roster changes or additions must be completed at the Parks and Recreation office, not at the court, and must be completed before the new player plays in a game. 7. Players can only be added to a teams roster if that team has 3 or more games left on the schedule. Players being added or on a roster must have less or equal skill level to the league the team is registered for. There is no exception to this rule. Players must be added before the deadline. Teams need to plan for injury, schedule conflicts, etc. The official roster will only consist of players who have paid the player fee. Equipment 1. Court shoes must be worn.
5 3. Teams are not required to have matching uniforms. 4. The Meridian Parks & Recreation Department will provide the game ball and net for each match. There are a limited number of paddles so each player is encouraged to bring their own. Suspension Rules 1. Meridian Parks & Recreation staff have the authority to eject any individual or team from a game or facility. Grounds for ejection include but are not limited to: displays of unsportsmanlike conduct derogatory remarks or gestures threats of violence acts of violence other behavior deemed detrimental to the league 2. Any player, coach or spectator ejected from a match or facility must leave the gym immediately and will be given an automatic one-match suspension. The league Coordinator will decide if any further action needs to be taken against the offending player, coach or spectator and will notify the team manager if further action is taken. The league Coordinator s decision will be final and could vary from one game to a lifetime suspension depending on the severity of the act. 3. Any player or coach ejected during the post-season tournament will be suspended for the remainder of the tournament. If a player is ejected during his/her team s final match of the tournament, an automatic one-match suspension will carry over to the next Meridian Recreation Department Adult program the player participates in. 4. When a player is ejected from a match, it is the team manager s responsibility to report to the scorekeeper and give the player s full name. If a player is ejected from a match and is asked to leave the gym, they must do so immediately. If they do not, the match will be forfeited. 5. Any player that is playing under the influence of alcohol that could cause injury to themselves or others participating in the game will be removed from the game and serve a one game suspension. This will be determined by the judgment of the official or Site Supervisor. Spectator Conduct 1. Teams are responsible for the conduct of spectators who are affiliated with their team. Spectators can be ejected from a game using the same suspension rules as above. Spectators asked to leave the gym must leave IMMEDIATELY. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit for the team they are affiliated with. 2. Children must remain with an adult at all times. If kids are becoming a distraction to the match or causing damage to the facility in any way, the match will be stopped until the
6 situation has been taken care of. It is the team manager s responsibility to ensure that children will not provide any distractions or abuse of the facility. Teams can be removed from the league if children are not supervised during the game. The City of Meridian Parks & Recreation Department encourages teams to bring their children to the games but please keep them supervised. City Facilities 1. Matches will be played at the Meridian Homecourt. 2. Smoking or drinking alcoholic beverages will not be permitted on the premises however smoking in the parking lot is allowed but must be done in the second or third row of parking from the facility. No cigarette butts should be found at the entry or in the parking lots. Participants, all accompanying guests, and family members need to respect the property. Failure to comply will result in loss of facility use. 3. If any damage occurs to a net or other equipment due to inappropriate use, financial obligation will be the responsibility of the person who causes the damage. 4.
