JAGUARS HEAD COACH DOUG MARRONE POSTGAME PRESS CONFERENCE VS. TENNESSEE TITANS Sunday, September 17, 2017 (Opening statement) Obviously I thought from the beginning of the game we started well, defense went out there and had a nice stop, we get the ball offensively, we drive down the field and wind up kicking a field goal, which is something you like to go and get that first score on the board. I thought after that we really didn t have much going offensively. I thought the defense was doing a good job. We gave up a sack-fumble. We had a play-action pass that shouldn t be tipped at the line of scrimmage that was tipped, and then we had a ball go off one of our receivers that was thrown. We had the three turnovers; we were able to overcome one. We turned it over and then Telvin [Smith] made a nice play. Telvin and Gip [Tashaun Gipson] were in position to make it. The other disappointing part was we gave up three points early on in the first half, and we can t do that. We get a penalty that gets us out of field goal range and then wind up getting the ball tipped and a pick. Those things, we ve got to do a better job, starting with me in calling what we want to get called in those situations, how we re going to overcome them. I thought the second half we want out and a couple of things, most of the drives on offense started with penalties; very difficult to overcome that. We had a plan that, you know, screens had worked well. Give Tennessee credit. They did a good job. They were defending them well. They did a good job today from that standpoint. Then we kick the ball down the middle of the field and get a big punt return and that s seven. They get the ball back again on the 50, they take a shot and a guy makes a good play on a go, had some good coverages. At the end of the day when you look at three turnovers compared to one, you look at the penalties, when they occur, where did they occur, those things are very challenging for us and that s not the way we want to play. At the end of the day, just like I said before after the first week, I wasn t too high. This week I m not too low. I ve got to do a better job making sure the penalties, not putting us in those poor situations, and then at the end I talked to the team about obviously there is a frustration and those things need to be pointed to things that are going to make us better and get ready to play the next play. That was my talk with the team. Looking forward to obviously cleaning this thing up and getting back to work. (On if the offensive struggles were self-inflicted) Anytime you have holding or hands to the face, we run a mesh route for a big gain, and we just need to continue to run. It wasn t meant to be a pick. Two guys ran into each other. I think those are the things I know I can do, a better job of coaching, and I think we could do a better job that would help us in the execution. I would say those things are unforced errors, you know what I m saying? So yes, I would agree with that, and I think it s hard to overcome those things. (On if he considered changing quarterbacks) No. (On if the defense was putting more pressure on Marqise Lee without Allen Robinson in the game) I think what happened was, early on, coverage-wise was what we expected. Once the game got to a two to three score game, then obviously the coverage changed as most teams would do. I didn t see anything that was an emphasis on one or the other, but obviously I m not going to sit here and say that

losing A-Rob doesn t hurt, obviously it does. I said it last week. It s a challenge for us, and we ve got to find ways to do a better job. (On if the defense wore down in the second half) They popped us on a couple. We lost the edge. I think that s one of my concerns when we go back and look at it. They wound up getting the ball, dipping it in, dipping it out. We got hit inside, we lost the gap. We had as many people up there as we re going to get. We did everything we could to fill the gaps up, and we ve just got to make the plays. Credit to those guys jumping that ball outside, they made some nice runs. (On why he feels Blake Bortles was unable to provide an offensive spark) I think when you look at, again, a lot of emphasis is going to go back to that. It s kind of the question about the quarterback, you know? Sack-fumble, blind side is hit. What are you going to do there? It s not like he s not trying to make it. He s made some plays on his feet. The second one, I mean, the guy is open. It s a play-action pass, people shouldn t have their hands up. That s up front. That can t happen. The next one I ve got to take a better look at it, but anytime that ball touches anyone s body, some of the catches we have to make. Some of the things we have to do offensively. We have to put our players in good shape, but, you know, it s hard to call plays when you re starting out first-and-20, things like that. Those are tough things and you re making decisions like do we try to come at it and try to take some shots down the field? And we give the sack up and now it s field position again. These are things that are going through our minds when we re out there. (On Tennessee s ability to protect Marcus Mariota) I thought early on we were starting to get good pressure to him, I mean that s why I think you saw him throw the interception. He was throwing off his back foot. We were having some good rushes. I think you saw his escapability at times. I thought Myles [Jack] made a nice play on the first sack. He was ready to escape and run and Myles made the tackle on the third-down play. A couple of other ones he was able to create and get rid of the ball, so I don t look at it from that standpoint. A lot of times in games those things are dependent upon the score. I thought we didn t have a lot of opportunities later on, obviously, because our concern was trying to stop the run. I can t speak for them, but I m sure they were trying to run the ball and eat up as much clock. (On how big a concern are penalties) It s always a concern. You know, it s funny, penalties, most people talk about from an analytical standpoint don t really coincide with winning or losing. I don t agree with that. I think they do. That s something that we have to clean up, because I think when you look at this game and at the end of the year when they look at those statistics that they don t really win or lose, I always say, well look at this game. This does not give us the position that we want to be in from a standpoint of field position and a standpoint of being able to run the football the way we want to.

JAGUARS PLAYER TRANSCRIPTS QUARTERBACK BLAKE BORTLES (On the turnovers and penalties) I think it was a combination of the turnovers and the penalties. I think you can t turn it over, three times is tough. Two picks and a fumble and then the penalties. You re playing from behind the six and it s first-and-20, second-and-20, second-and-15. That makes it tough to call plays, tough to execute plays when you are playing from behind the chains like that. I think it was a bit of a combination of both. We were never really able to get anything rolling. (On how Tennessee was able to control the ground game) I thought they did a good job. I think we knew coming into it that they were a good front. We respected them but I think at the end of the day we had some good runs early and we were able to stay ahead of the chains but we have to be better. We have to be better all around. The run game, the pass game, the penalties and the turnovers. It s a collective group, it s a whole and it all has to be better. (On how much he misses Allen Robinson) I mean anytime a player like that goes down it s a huge, there s a huge void to fill. The targets, the plays he made, the yards, the touchdowns. All that s gone. We have to find a way to make up for that and get other people in positions to make plays. We don t have another Allen Robinson. He s a big-time player. We have other guys that can make plays for us and be successful and help us be successful. (On the confidence of the offensive line) I think they were as confident as they could be. I think going back to last week and what they did last week coming in here, we knew this was a good front. They have good guys outside. For the most part, I think they did well. I think we could have helped them out with some different things but I thought they played ok. I think we have to get better as a group. (On if the game plan changed when they fell behind in the second half) I think it definitely does. We want to run the football and you go down two scores, you re kind of limited on what you can do in the run game. You got to go score points in a hurry. I think we did a little bit of that. We will have to figure out how we can continue to run the ball and create plays there. But, like I said, when everything is firstand-22 and first-and-20 like it seemed it was in the second half, it s hard to get anything going. (On if the penalties kept them from their game plan) I think that was a big part of it. Like you said, those penalties and turnovers will hurt you, kill you. I think starting fast is something we wanted to do and I thought back-to-back weeks, our first possessions we ve gone down the field and we d like to score but we ve gotten three points, so it s a good start. We have to find ways to build on that throughout the game and continue to do what we did in those first drives. (On if stretching the field more would help) Yeah I think so definitely. I think we got to get guys backing up. It s all stuff that we have and are in the game plan and situationally we ll call and do all that. I think

that when our run game is going and we are able to do something off of play action, take shots down the field, it s definitely big and opens them up. (On if defenses play them differently without Allen Robinson) I think anytime, Allen because obviously, he s by himself a lot playing X there s teams that ll put a safety over there on top of him or leave somebody over there just to try and take you off of him. It s hard to say if there s been any adjustments on the defensive side with his absence. I thought our guys today wide out wise I thought they played alright, I thought they made some good plays. We just got to make more of them. (On the difference of the Titans in the first and second half) Nothing. They played the same defense in the second half they played in the first half. We weren t able to take advantage of the opportunities they gave us. We had a plan and talked about what we wanted to do at halftime. They came out and played what we thought they were going to play and showed us what were prepared for and we just weren t able to take advantage of it. (On how surprised he was on the performance today after last week) You know it s tough. We talk about it all the time, being able to stay poised and stay calm and level headed no matter how high it is or how low it is. There s going to be adversity. It s a long season there s no doubt about that. I think you got to be able to not respond to plays and series and stuff throughout the game. But you have to be able to respond to a complete game itself. You got to be able to take a loss and learn from it, move on, grow from it, get better. There s only been one time, I think, to ever go perfect so you re going to lose some games and I think it s finding out how to do that as little as possible. But now to try and eliminate, offensively speaking, the self-wounding errors. The penalties, the turnovers, the stuff we can take care of and are in control of so I think as long as we handle that we ll be alright. (On if he was disappointed they didn t take shots down field earlier) Obviously as a quarterback you always want to throw the ball, you want to throw it down field, you want to score touchdowns. I thought we had a good plan. I thought we did some good things in the first half and the running game and then when you get down by a certain point, you got to abandon the running game and start throwing the ball like we did towards the end. We will have to find what we can do and what we can take advantage of and how we can get the ball down field in order to create those big plays that we need to win. DEFENSIVE END DANTE FOWLER JR. (On how physical the Titans were on offense) It was a pretty physical game. We were just out of our gaps in some areas and we just weren t at the right place and at the right time. I think we played really physical. I don t think we got [outmatched physically], but I think they were able to run the ball better than we did and they put points on the board and we didn t. We just have to find a way to cause more turnovers and give our offense a chance to get back on the field and try to score. Tomorrow will be a really good day for us to get back in and correct some of the things that we did so we can go from there. (On the defensive pressure on Titans QB Marcus Mariota) I think as a whole we need to ball out pretty quick and we did a good job of that. We were getting pressure. We can t get down. It s only the second game of the season so kudos to them. They came out with the win and we ll be ready the next time we play them.

(On the missed opportunity to make a statement game) It s cool. They gained that momentum. We ve got to play it out in the division and win our games and we ll be fine. We can t put our heads down and we got a long season to go. It s just a little adversity that we got to get over and we ve been through that for a long tome so it s nothing new to us. It s time to go back to work. (On how the defense is dealing with adversity) Some people came from winning programs, so they re probably not used to losing on a consistent basis. They know what a loss is and they know how to take one on the chin, but the good thing about those type of guys is they know how to come back and work and they know how to forget about things and put it in the past. WIDE RECEIVER MARQISE LEE (On how hard it was to get anything down field today) We had a lot of mistakes. Even when we found ways to move the ball forward, we still found ways to bring ourselves back. You can t win the game doing things like that. Tipped balls and things and turnovers, we just have to improve in that standpoint. I feel like we had more control than the tipped balls and mistakes on our own. We will be fine. (On if he wondered how teams would play them without Allen Robinson) Yeah, but it doesn t bother me at all. We still have to get open and make plays, that is mine and (Allen) Hurns focus is along with (Keenan) Cole and AB (Arrelious Benn). We have to go out there and make plays. We have to take advantage of our opportunities. (On if the offensive margin of error is small like last season) We don t have a margin for error, we need to fix it now. (The) penalties and things we have to get rid of them. As you see with the penalties, we are going back to the same thing last year and two years ago. Our main focus is to come back to practice and focus on our assignments and things like that. It s only the second game. Just like when we won the first game, my first comment was, it s only the first game. It s only the second game, you still have 14. If you sit here worried then you have a problem. (On if he thinks the young guys might be worried) Yeah, but it s common though for a young guy who may not know what to expect, you know what I am saying? In my eyes, it s slim. We have a lot of mistakes to fix, but if we go out there and go to practice and fix what we need to fix. then we will be fine. DEFENSIVE TACKLE MALIK JACKSON (On the positives despite the loss) We did some good things and some bad things. We went out there and made some plays. We have to make sure we hold on in the third quarter to give our offense a chance to score some more points. It is what it is. (On the difference in what happened last week) They came out here and beat us, that s the big difference. We have some things we need to fix. We have to go back and watch the tape to see what we did right and didn t do right. That s all we can do. (On how physical Tennessee was today) It had nothing to do with physicality with what they were doing. It was just stuff we weren t doing and that is all that really matters. That can play anyway they want to if we come out and do what we are supposed to do, then it doesn t matter how they are taught to do. We just have to go back to the drawing board and fix the things that we can control.

CORNERBACK A.J. BOUYE (On when he felt the momentum changed) The field position battles in which they started some drives around the fifty yard-line, but at the end of the day, that s not an excuse, and from a defensive stand point, we have to bow up and make turnovers and make plays just like we did in the first half. (On Mariota s deep completion) Most definitely, I ve got to be more situationally aware with knowing the personnel. It was a good ball and a good catch on a deep play and it put them in good position to make a play and score a touchdown. We just got to come back and fight even harder and learn from mistakes and not really dwell on this. WIDE RECEIVER ALLEN HURNS (On if this setback is a sobering reality for the team) No, I wouldn t say that. I think today we know what we have to do from an offensive standpoint. I think the defense played well especially coming out in the first half of the game. Our offense, we have to put up more points. Once we get down two scores it going to be tough, especially for the defense. I don t how many plays that the defense played, but I am sure it s a lot. We have to stay off the field and keep drives going instead of turnovers and penalties. (On if penalties and turnovers were the biggest part of this game) Oh for sure. I feel like once we got something going we would have a first down and come back because it was a penalty. That haunted us in a lot of the drives. We have to stay consistent and play ahead of mistakes instead of being secondand-long or third-and-long. That is going to hurt us. (On how to keep the penalties and turnovers from being a lingering issue.) We to come in and learn from the mistakes. As far as the turnovers on tipped passes, that is going to happen and unfortunate that it went the other way. As for the penalties, that is something we can correct. I had one as well with the pass interference when the guy ran into me. At the end of the day, we have to find ways to get things done. (On if the offensive mistakes today felt like quicksand) Yeah. Like I said before, a lot of the things that hurt us was penalties. Once we got something going, we would have a first down then come back with a penalty to make it first-and-long. That is always going to hurt a drive with how we run our offense now. We want to get the running game involved and it hurt us. I know we were down a lot, but later in the game when we limited the penalties and went up-tempo offense that kind of worked for us even though we were down later in the game. SAFETY BARRY CHURCH (On what he has done to change the defensive culture) Last year, they (Jacksonville) had the number two ranked passing defense in the league last year. I have to come in here myself and make sure I help make more plays. Be that leader on and off the field and make plays. Today, I made a couple of tackles here and there but that is not good enough. We have to take the ball away somehow, some way and I feel like we will be able to do that. We just have to get better at it which takes a little time. The season is not too long so we will have to kick it into gear next to bounce back and get to the football we know.

(On if one game doesn t make a season is the message to the younger guys) Oh for sure. If anybody asks me, I have been a part of beatings like this before and it doesn t make a season. We have to do what good teams do which is go in and make adjustments and not make the mistakes the following week. We have a good team here so I believe we will be able to do that. (On how he saw the defense the second half) I didn t see it as wearing down because we have a wellconditioned team. I saw it as we weren t able to make the same plays we DID in the first half. That is what good defenses do, they make adjustments coming out the second half and they play. Early on, in the second half, we were able to do that, but as the game wore, we weren t able to make those same plays. As defense, we have to get better and take the ball away. Their defense had two or three takeaways. We have to match that and we didn t match that. That was going to be the difference. RUNNING BACK COREY GRANT (On how the second game is different from the first game) First game is kind of, teams really don t have a game plan for you, but they do in a way. As the season goes on and in this second game, they can watch last week s film and really dial in on what we did last week. (On how the teams adjusted to each other) You know, things like that happen throughout the game. First half it seemed like everything was going pretty good, and, in the second half, it kind of slowed down. So, that s something we ve got to find a way to adjust to once someone else adjusts to us. (On how to approach next week versus Baltimore) put this game away. Don t forget about it, learn from our mistakes, but get ready for a new game. Don t let this game carry over to next week, just learn from it and get ready for a new week. (On what Tennessee did differently defensively compared to Houston last week) They just stacked the ball. They played good fundamental football and brought some things we had seen and didn t see. You know, we made some mistakes, so we ve just got to go back and capitalize on them and correct them. LINEBACKER MYLES JACK (On the difference from today s game versus last week s) Honestly, we re going to have to go back and look at the film, just stepping off the field. I honestly don t know. We ve got to come out and do better all the way around as a team and especially as a defense we ve got to step up and get takeaways like we did last week. I honestly don t know. This just wasn t a good day today. (On his thoughts on the defensive penalties) Penalties and a lot of mistakes. We just got to come back and watch the film on this one game but we got a long season ahead of us but we ll learn from this. (On how he felt about getting pressure on the quarterback today) The really honed in on running the ball and they were successful with it as hard as it is to say. We have to put them in passing situations so the opportunity to get sacks can arise but we ve got to stop the run first and last week we stopped the run but this week we weren t too good at it. (On if he felt the defense lacked motivation once the Titans took the lead) The game in the NFL is big on field position. If they get the ball at our 30 that s tough on the defense but it s a team effort so the

defense has to do better. The offense and special teams have to do better. Definitely, that s tough to be backed up and they were already running the ball so it s a tough situation. CORNERBACK JALEN RAMSEY (On how the team reacted when the score was 16-3) I don t know. I don t really remember, to be honest. I just go play by play. I don t really remember. The whole time, field possession was divided. (On if this needs to be a one game mentality) For sure, yeah. We can t think about it too long. (On how to prevent this performance from becoming repetitive) We ve gotta grind. This week during practice is going to be key. We re going to London and we re going to have to remain focused and just move on and get after it (On if there s a small margin of error on both sides of the ball) That ain t just this team, that s any NFL team. Everybody gets paid on our side, their side. So that s any NFL team, any NFL contest can go that way. So that s every week. DEFENSIVE END CALAIS CAMPBELL (On what the team needed to do today) It s important to find a way to get things done, no matter what, when it s not going your way. Today was just one of those days where things didn t go our way. Opportunities we missed out on and the main thing was capitalizing on opportunities your team has. (On Tennessee s performance) They played a good game. I m looking forward to playing them again because I think the score was different than what I know we can do. (On how physical the Titans were) I think they made some good plays. They found a way to crack some holes and some trick stuff in the backfield. We ll grade the tape and figure out what happened. Same as always, never get too high after a win, never too low after a loss. Grade the tape and move on to next week. (On the game today) It wasn t pretty by any means, but you ve got to tip your hat off to Tennessee. RUNNING BACK LEONARD FOURNETTE (On how Tennessee s defense challenged the run game) I mean we ve just got to find our way, that s all. It was a tough game, but we ll get better. (On how challenging it is when the team struggles to run the ball) No, I mean not really. We ve just got to find ways to make plays when adversity hits. Just bounce back from it, that s all. Tough game for us, but we ve got plenty more games ahead. (On the difficulties in today s game compared to last week) We just had a bad day, that s all. We ll come back next week against Baltimore, practice hard, come back strong, and get the W. (On if there were holes to run through) Like I said, their defense is talented. When adversity hits, we ve just got to fight through.

LEFT TACKLE CAM ROBINSON (On his thoughts on the game) We have to win, so despite the loss, it was fine, but at the end of the day, we have to win. (On what he took away from Coach Marrone s postgame message) The message I got was that we shot ourselves in the foot with the penalties, but ultimately, we re not making excuses, but at the end of the day, we have to pull those out. (On his thoughts on Blake Bortles) He s a great leader for our offense. I think it s up to us to protect him and keep him clean and let him do what he does. (On his thoughts on the lack of a ground game) Ultimately, we ve got to get the run game started. This week, we worked on it, so it s something that we ve got to get better at.

TITANS HEAD COACH MIKE MULARKEY POSTGAME MEDIA AVAILABILITY VS. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS Sunday, September 17, 2017 (Before questions were asked) I m proud of our team, coming back, coming in here and getting a win, and playing well in all three phases. It was the difference. We hung in there, we came in in the second half, and just kept playing. That s credit to those guys. They were ready to play before, and came in at halftime, and wanted to come out and make a statement, and I think they did. It s a good football team. (The Jaguars) (On if there was any panic about the Jaguars not going away early) I ve said that, I ve always said it, and I think I said it earlier this week; you ve got to be patient on some things. It s a good football team over there, and we knew it was going to be a knock-down, drag-out kind of fight. We knew that from the beginning. We stuck with the plan. The plan never changed. (On if the team was determined to run the football, especially in the first two drives of the game) That is accurate. (The first two plays) They were runs. It was just the way we decided to put the scheme together this week. (On if there was more of an emphasis game this week) No, I don t think so. I just think that, again, every game plan is different. We sit there and spend a lot of time figuring out how to try and attack people. This one was run the ball early. (On going into more detail about scoring/big plays, sacks on defense, turnovers, points on offense) Again, if you can do that, that s good. We talked about it in the locker room before the game, just the three phases, and putting the game together, and making some plays. You had two teams that hadn t turned the ball over. We traded them early, and then we got two more. We got field goals, I think, because of them. We kept them from scoring, I think it was in our plus territory, and then that return by Adoree (Jackson). I mean, we haven t had anything like that it s been a while. So that was a big play, a really big play. It just kind of shows you what his potential is. (On what Derrick Henry was able to accomplish in the game) Yeah, he came in and had a big run, a really big run. We actually didn t put the play in until Saturday night, when we had a look at another thing. We never practiced it, and those guys blocked it up front like we wanted. It was a great run. He came in, and DeMarco (Murray) s got a little bit of a tight hamstring deal that he s dealing with, and we didn t want to risk that, and he came in and did what he was supposed to do. He ran the ball well. (On if a big run is what a guy like that (Derrick Henry) lives for, to get that opportunity) Sure. He s a good player, and got a number of opportunities, and took advantage of it. I think (David) Fluellen ran the ball pretty well for the few reps that he had. He ran the ball well.

(On what the satisfaction was to be able to pound it like you did in the second half following all of the emphasis that was placed on Jacksonville s defense based on what they accomplished last week) I think it says a lot about our guys, and their mentality. They know where we re at. They know it s early in the year, the second game of the year. That s our intent all of the time. We tried it in the first half too, and it wasn t going so well. It was the patience of sticking with it. (On if what the Titans did today in the 3 rd and 4 th quarter on a hot day like today is part of the patience of what they want to do) Yeah. That s one thing I think that--i m not speaking for anybody else but I like our conditioning. I really liked where we were late in the game, especially when you re running the ball like that. I felt like we were in good shape in the second half with the heat. (On if Demarco Murray s hamstring injury is new) He had it earlier in training camp. New today. (On the status of Corey Taylor) Same thing. We re just trying to be smart, and not expose him to some deeper routes. We put him down in the red zone, feeling like he wasn t going to blow it out down there, and felt I don t want to say the word maybe it is safer down there, with less territory to cover. That s why he went back in the game, where we were field-position wise. (On if it was the same hamstring for Taylor) Yes. (On if the young talent on the team is a driving force nowadays ) Well, they made some plays. That was a big play, obviously, by Jonnu (Smith). You might have been able to run it in, to be honest with you. *Laughter* The play was set up great. It was a great play call by Terry Robiskie, and just the way it unfolded, there was nobody over there for our guys to block. Jonnu (Smith) was in pretty much every one of the runs we were in. Obviously Adoree (Jackson) made some plays again, out there in coverage, and the return. I don t know if I can tell you that Jayon (Brown) and some of the other guys, and Cory (Davis) again, just, we have to get him healthy, and see what he can do for us. (On how key the success the team had of running the ball against the Jaguars defense was) Again, it s a very good (defensive) front, a very good one. You saw what they did last week. I thought our guys did pretty well, inside our O-line. We felt like, going into this thing, the guys inside, both sides of the ball that was going to be the difference of the game. (On the interception that Marcus Mariota threw, and the two defenders that he had in the area) Yeah, he didn t see them, so yeah, he just didn t see them, obviously. (On the significance of winning a division game early in the season) It s important. I mean, it s part of the process of learning; winning on the road, and winning on our division on the road, which we have not had much success doing. We have to do that, if we want to do it (have success). (On if he tells the team at this point in time Hey, we re in first place right now in the division this early in the season) No. Its two games. It s a good win for us. It shows us what we re capable of doing, and that we can do what we did today, with the turnovers, and running the ball. I m not sure what we were on third down, but we were much better in the red zone when we got down there. Those are things that we have to do every week.

(On if Jonnu Smith s run, Delanie Walker s sweep, and Taywan Taylor s sweep helps build confidence within the coaches that those play are working) Yeah. I mean, we d like to be able to think that they re going to work when we call them, and when we design them. We see something, that we think we have the advantage. So, I give a complement to the staff again, just coming up with some of those things, very good ideas. I like seeing that we have a chance. Some of them have been blown up over the last yearand-a-half. Today, we had some big plays off of them. (On if he was looking to rotate Da Norris Searcy and Curtis Riley, and about their interceptions) Yeah, it was just the rotation. We were using more free safety today, with trying to stop the run. That was part of it. (On his first look at Leonard Fournette, and what he thought) He s impressive, he s a really impressive back. He s tough to bring down, obviously you saw that numerous times. We didn t do a good job of bringing him down on first contact. (On the team s defensive efforts (Jacksonville s failed possessions in the middle of the game, the three turnovers) Outstanding. I ll say again...i don t what happened, what they did on the last two drives, where they went right down, nobody wants that. Take what they did before that, and that s why we were in the position we were in, with the score. (On the quarterback slides) Yeah, he s got to slide earlier than that. (Mariota) He s got to slide earlier. I didn t think the defender...he didn t either, and that s what Ed (Hochuli) told me out there earlier. It was too quick for him to try to avoid any contact with Marcus (Mariota). So he s got to get down quicker. (On Taywan Taylor s catch) Big-time. We actually threw it in practice on Friday, and he didn t dive for it, but he made a great catch to get to it. We re talking about a big-time play. (On what it means for Jonnu Smith to have that kind of success ) It s good, and anytime they can do well is good for them, for their confidence. They re going to keep growing. They have a lot of work to do, all of them. All of the young guys have a lot of work to do. I mean, there s things that we see that you (the media) don t see. But they re willing to do it. They want to work, and they want to be good, and that s the best part about our young rookies. (On what the biggest motivation was coming in from last year) We want to win the division. You have to beat division teams, and we learned our lesson last year. (On his thoughts about the defense, although playing a solid game, yielding points while burning some clock) It s frustrating for everybody, but just a lesson that we have to do a better job of slowing them down. (On if the points for clock is a trade-off he s willing to take ) No, I mean it is taking time, it s definitely doing that. Knowing the score, knowing how many possessions they probably have, the calls aren t different, we just have to make plays. (On how he felt about Marcus Mariota s performance in the pocket) I felt pretty good. He stood in, and he got out a bunch of times, and got out of some bad situations. The pick was a good defensive play, he didn t see him. But he made some plays on his feet, got us out of some issues, made some great throws. We missed a couple, again, the fine line I keep talking about, was some of the throws and catches. But

he has a lot on his plate when we put him in the game, with the things we re asking him to do, and he s functioning at a high level right now. (On the status of Adoree Jackson) Yeah, he s ok. He just took a knee to the ribs. (On Adoree Jackson s play on defense) Yeah, I would have like to have seen him get that pick. That would have been a big play for us. I see him growing at that position.

TITANS PLAYER TRANSCRIPTS QUARTERBACK MARCUS MARIOTA (On how the win feels) It was huge. A very important win for us. A really good divisional win on the road. It was huge. Really glad we were able to do it. (On if revenge played a part in the team s performance) It s a brand new year. Our main focus, our main concern was being better in our division and we were able to accomplish that today. It is one win, but maybe we can use this momentum for the rest of the year. (On if he was concerned about the lack of offense in the first half) You said it best. Going into this game, we knew it was going to be tough. They have a great defense, a great defensive front and we knew we had to just keep chugging along. We knew we could make some plays when they came around and I think the offensive line did a great job. The receivers found a way to get open and the tight ends made some big plays. (On how the offensive line played) You said it. Those guys deserve a lot of credit for how well we played today. It really starts up front and if we can control the line of scrimmage like we did, we can be successful. (On the play of RB Derrick Henry) I think Derrick did a great job, coming in, making plays. Towards the end of the game, when you are running out the clock, to have a back like that is huge. I think we will continue to find ways to get him the football and we will expect those things out of him. (On if he thought his running sparked the offense) I think it is helpful. I just try to do my best. Going into it, we knew we could make some plays. The guys did a great job blocking and I was able to find some creases. (On if he should have slid sooner instead of taking a big hit) Honestly, it was one of those bang-bang plays. I didn t see him until really the last second and I tried to get down. So that s part of it. That s part of the game. (On if the success of the running game helped out) Any time you can run the football, you re going to be able to get a rhythm going. Give a lot of credit to those guys up front and because of them we able to do that and were able to make some plays passing because of it. (On what was said at halftime) Stay the course. Really there wasn t a lot of adjustments. We just knew what we had with our game plan and if we could execute, we could find some success. Going out in the second half, give a lot of credit to the guys to trust the process and we would score some points.

(On being able to string together scoring drives) When you are in a rhythm like that, it s hard to explain. You just have to give credit where credit s due and the whole offense could start feeling the momentum sliding over to us and guys make plays. When it comes down to it, every week is not going to be like that. We will try to accomplish our goal of scoring on every drive. (On the play of the rookies) Those guys made plays like that throughout the offseason and even into the preseason, so we need to find ways to get those guys the ball and allow them to make plays. (On installing the play last night that RB Derrick Henry scored on) I think just going through practice and looking at different looks, seeing different fronts, what might happen, so the coaches really did a great job just making that an adjustment. We knew going in there were some plays that we liked and if they gave us certain fronts, we were prepared for it. Give credit to the guys. We didn t have a lot of practice reps at it, but they executed it well. (On how much better it feels to leave Jacksonville with a win) It was great. It was great. You know last year, I was leaving here on crutches. So it s better to be able to walk out of here with the guys. A huge divisional win and we re going to enjoy it. WIDE RECEIVER TAYWAN TAYLOR (On 42-yard reception to set up a touchdown) I just tried to make a play on the ball and it was great execution by our offensive unit. Our line did a nice job blocking for Marcus [Mariota], and I was able to get by the defender to make the play. (On getting a road victory) Coach Mularkey preached this week how important it was to have a division game on the road. He told us we owe ourselves to play hard, and last year we came here, and we didn t get the outcome we wanted. Today, we had a tough one on the road and did a good job. (On offensive performance in second half) We settled down a little bit in the second half and the offense got on a roll in the third quarter. One of the key words this week was finish, and we came out and wanted to finish and that s what we did. (On playing Seattle) It s a big game next week, Seattle, a great ball club. We have to come in and play hard. LINEBACKER WESLEY WOODYARD (On avenging last year s loss in Jacksonville) This was one of four games we have had with them here and they won the last three games in Jacksonville and just getting a victory here was important. Now we have a chance to get a sweep in the series this year. (On the defensive effort) We kind of let up a bit at the end of the game but at the end of the day, it s a good team victory for us. (On the offense scoring 30 unanswered points) That s what it s about and you have to feed the offense the ball, getting turnovers, getting three and outs. When they are hot, you have to give them the ball.

It s complimentary football. We have to get the stops and give them good field position. That s what we were able to do today. (On playing Seattle at home) We have to get that first home victory, that s what it s all about, not losing at home against a great Seattle team. They know how to win, they have won the Super Bowl and this would be a great step for us to get a victory against them. It will be another defensive battle. We can t have Russell Wilson make plays outside the pocket. SAFETY DA NORRIS SEARCY (On interception of Blake Bortles and overall team defensive performance) Really, my teammates made a good break on the ball and forced the ball to tip into the air, and I just made a play on it. Overall, as a defense we came out and played well. We knew it would be an old school type of game. We knew they would come out and try to run the ball. We had to button up our chin straps and come play. It showed. The first half went by so fast because both teams just ran the ball and ate clock, but we were able to get off the field and create turnovers. That helped out our defense a lot and put our offense in scoring position with the turnovers as well, so that was big. (On whether or not the Titans looked for tendencies from the Jaguars offense) Not really. We just lined up and played. We reacted to what we saw. A couple of tipped balls went into the air, and we were alert and able to get our hands on it. (On what the Titans learned from Jaguars performance against Houston) We knew they would come out and try to establish the run. That was a main focus point. Once we did that and forced them to pass, and forcing them to making some mistakes, that was pretty good. (On importance of winning in the division) It s especially good to get a divisional win on the road. We came down here and handled what we were supposed to do. We knew we had to get a win starting 0-1 and focused on that, so we were able to come down here and get the W. TIGHT END DELANIE WALKER (On TD pass from QB Marcos Mariota) We had the play in the week before and it was a great play. Jonnu (Smith) and Phil (Supernaw) made great blocks on the edges, and basically helped me do my job. I walked into the end zone. There you have it. Touchdown. (On lack of pressure from the Jaguars defense) Our O-line communicated. We talked about that all week about them communicating and knowing who to block. They did a great job communicating with each other. We just wanted to make sure we are all on the same page. They did that today. You have to give it to the o-line today. We would not have been able to run the routes and run the ball the way we did without the offensive line. That s why it was the way it was today. (On Jaguars secondary) I thought the secondary played great for Jacksonville. They did a great job early in the game, but when you come in at halftime, you make some adjustments. I m sure they made some adjustments, but it just so happened that our adjustments were a little better, and you started seeing big plays down the field.

(On QB Marcus Mariota s performance) Marcus is always steady, cool and collective especially when he has good protection. He can sit in there and make the reads he has to and that s what he did today. TIGHT END JONNU SMITH (On TD catch from QB Marcus Mariota) It was a simple screen, well-executed and offensive line did a good job. Marcus got the ball to me. That was a designed play. I saw daylight and I just took it. (On involvement of tight ends in Titans offense and other receivers) We have a lot of explosive players across the board and we just want to put our players in the best position to win. So we will make sure everybody makes plays that touches the ball. (On importance of win in the division) We had to. It was big for us. Now we have the momentum and will keep building off of these wins and take one game at a time. (On contributions of younger players and rookies on Titans) We re doing our job. We executed young guys and older guys across the board. When that happens, you get that result. DEFENSIVE BACK CURTIS RILEY (On defensive performance by Titans) We all played together, and communicated. We knew what we had to do to win the game. (On interception of deflected pass from Jaguars QB Blake Bortles) I was in and out with the linebacker. We switched and I dropped back in the hole. It was a good play by whoever tipped it up in the air and I just went up and got it. (On preparing for QB Blake Bortles) We knew what we had to do. We just prepared all week in practice, and executed. Today, we just made the plays we had to make. (On importance of division win on the road) Any win is important. We just try to come out and win every week. We keep working all week and try to get the win on Sunday.
