JSU Head Coach Adeniji Olagbegi is entering his seventh season as the Jackson State women s soccer coach. Olagbegi has served as JSU s head soccer coach since the sport was established as club sport in Soccer was adopted as an officially NCAA sponsored sport on the JSU campus in In 2003 Olagbegi led the Lady Tigers to a 4-10 overall record and a 1-1 conference mark. In 2004 JSU finished with an impressive overall record. The Lady Tigers finished 2-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. That year JSU was the third ranked team in the SWAC Eastern Division standings. Jackson State finished the 2005 season with record and was ranked No. 1 in the conference. In 2006 JSU finished third in the SWAC with a 3-2 conference mark and an 11-5 overall record. In 2007 the Lady Tigers finished with a overall record and a SWAC mark. The Lady Tigers fell 2-2 (5-3) to Mississippi Valley State in the semi final round of the SWAC Tournament Season Outlook Coming off an excellent 2007 season the JSU women s soccer team looks to be even better in The Lady Tigers finished last season No. 1 in scoring offense in NCAA Division I. Sophomore forward Niara Crimiel returns to lead the Lady Tigers. Crimiel ranked No. 1 in the NCAA in points/game (2.53) and goals/game (1.059). Crimiel scored 18 goals and recorded seven assists last season. Along with Crimiel JSU will have senior forward Zachene Crooks (7 goals), sophomore forward Rochelle Moncrieffe (6 goals), and junior midfielder Melissa Smith (6 goals) returning in 08. Other key players for JSU are senior Chioma Anosike, junior Chereka Hamilton, junior Stephanie Dennis, sophomore Lakiesha Herman and sophomore Joelle Gibson. Anosike will provide senior leadership and Hamilton is a solid goal keeper. Dennis, Herman and Gibson are good, tough defenders. JSU will open the 2008 season with two road games. The Lady Tigers will face the Alabama Crimson in Tuscaloosa, Ala. (Aug. 16) and Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La. (Aug. 19). JSU s first home contest will be against Alcorn State (Aug. 23) and LSU Shreveport (Aug. 24) for the 4 th Annual Ronald Mason, Jr. President s Cup tournament. The Lady Tigers will then participate in the Mercer (Aug ), Louisiana Monroe (Sept. 5-7) and Nicholls State (Sept ) tournaments. On Sept. 21 JSU will host Lipscomb. Conference play will begin in October. Arkansas Pine Bluff and Grambling will come to Jackson on Oct. 3 and 5 respectively. JSU will host Southern on Oct. 17 and the Lady Tigers final two home games of the season will be against Alabama State and Alabama A&M on Oct. 24 and 26.
