3 Nebraska Women s Basketball Page 3 vs. Oklahoma State Feb. 10, 2008 Huskers.com 4NU set a school record with 11 three-pointers in the win at Iowa State. The Huskers have hit 10 or more three-pointers on five occasions against the Cyclones. 4Nebraska is leading the Big 12 in conference games only by hitting 78.4 percent of its free throw attempts. Entering league play, NU ranked 11th in the league at 59.9 percent, ahead of only Oklahoma. The Sooners are ranked second in Big 12 games only at 74.4 percent. 4Nebraska (30-32) and Kansas (7-8) combined to hit 37-of-40 free throws on Jan. 12. The 92.5 percent free throw shooting was the best combined mark by both teams in Husker history, surpassing a 34-of-37 effort (91.9 percent) between Nebraska (18-19) and Oklahoma (16-18) in the Sooners win at the Lloyd Noble Center on Feb. 5, Nebraska's 45 points allowed in a win over No. 15 Texas were the fewest scored by a top-25 opponent in school history against the Huskers. 4Nebraska is the only team in the Big 12 without a player among the top 30 in minutes played. Husker Hype: Individual Notes 4Kelsey Griffin is enjoying a strong return to the court in Big 12 play after sitting out Nebraska s final four non-conference games with a rib injury. The first-team All-Big 12 forward and reigning Big 12 Player of the Week is coming off a season-high 25-point effort at Colorado, that included 17 points in the second half. Griffin is leading the Huskers in Big 12 play with 16.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. 4Last Sunday at Missouri, Griffin scored 23 points, including 17 in the second half, and pulled down nine rebounds to lead NU back from a 14-point deficit with 8:30 to play. She added her fourth double-double of the year with 19 points and 11 rebounds on Jan. 30 against No. 18 Kansas State. 4Griffin ranks among the top 10 in the Big 12 in league games only in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and free throw percentage. 4Griffin ranks 14th on Nebraska s career scoring list with 1,169 points. She needs 14 points to catch Jan Crouch at 13th (1,183). 4Danielle Page has blocked a shot in 19 straight games and 22 of 23 games this season. She has 56 on the year and 185 in her career to rank No. 2 all-time at Nebraska. She also ranks in the top 10 in Big 12 history. 4Page s seven blocks against Kansas marked the second time in six games that the 6-2 forward had produced seven in a game, joining her seven-block effort at Cal State Bakersfield on Dec. 13. Page has blocked seven or more shots three times in the last 33 games, including a school-recond nine blocks against Baylor on Feb. 3, A defensive star for the Huskers, Yvonne Turner leads the Big 12 with 3.0 steals per game in league action. She had six steals against No. 15 Texas and No. 21 Texas A&M, and five steals against Kansas. Turner owns at least one steal in 18 straight games, with two or more steals in 13 of those contests. She is tied for fourth on Nebraska s sophomore single-season steals list (65). 4Turner has 65 steals on the year, which is 29 more than NU s leader - Kelsey Griffin - had in In fact, Turner needs just four more steals to match the combined steals total of Griffin (36) and first-team All-Big 12 guard Kiera Hardy (33) who combined for 69 steals last season. 4Offensively, Turner has produced double figures in six of the last 13 games, including a career-high 18 points at No. 11 Oklahoma and 14 points at Colorado. She is averaging 10 points per game in Big 12 action. She has hit 14-of-27 three-point attempts over the last seven games, after opening the season 7-for-38 in the first 16 contests. She leads the Big 12 in conference action by shooting 50 percent (15-30) from long range. 4Cory Montgomery, who started NU s last four non-conference games in place of Kelsey Griffin, came off the bench to score 21 points and grab eight boards at Iowa State. It was Montgomery s 13th game in double figures this season. Montgomery owns the highest scoring average (10.4 ppg) of any non-starter in the Big 12. Nebraska s Roster in Depth No. Player Ht. Cl. The Cowgirls come to the Devaney Center with an 18-3 overall record and a 6-2 conference mark. OSU also brings the most explosive player in the league to Lincoln, as sophomore point guard Andrea Riley is averaging a Big 12-best 22.8 points per game. In Big 12 play, the 5-5 Riley has been even better, pumping in a staggering 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Oklahoma State also owns a plus-4.9 team turnover margin. Nebraska vs. Oklahoma State Series History Nebraska leads the all-time series with Oklahoma State, 30-24, including a 7-3 mark in the last 10 meetings. Last season, OSU snapped the Huskers five-game series winning streak with a win in Stillwater. Two seasons earlier at Gallagher-Iba, the game also came down to a last shot, as first-team All-Big 12 guard Kiera Hardy drilled a jumper from the left side to give NU a win. Nebraska has won the last two series meetings in Lincoln, including an win on Feb. 21, The Huskers series with the Cowgirls dates back to their first meeting on Feb. 12, 1976, as members of the old Big Eight Conference. NU won that meeting in the first round of the Big Eight Tournament in Manhattan, Kan. Huskers Battle Back to Beat Buffs in Boulder, Kelsey Griffin scored a game and season-high 25 points, including 17 in the second half, to lead Nebraska to its second straight comeback on the road with an win over Colorado in Boulder on Wednesday. The Huskers, who trailed by four at with 5:45 to play, erupted on a 13-3 run over the next four minutes to claim control of the game with a lead after Griffin s layup with 2:01 left. Trailing with under four minutes left, Yvonne Turner buried her third three-pointer of the game to tie it. Turner finished the night with 14 points on 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range. Senior Danielle Page put Nebraska in the lead with a layup to make it with three minutes left. Page suffered through a frustrating night with just eight points on 4-of-13 shooting from the field but hit two of NU s most crucial baskets in the final five minutes. Turner then made the biggest defensive play of the game by stripping CU point guard Whitney Houston at halfcourt and racing to the bucket for a layup to put NU up with 2:42 remaining. The Huskers hit 10 free throws down the stretch in the final 1:45 to seal the win. Freshman Dominique Kelley added 10 points, while Cory Montgomery pitched in eight off the bench. Page produced her first double-double of the year and third of her career with 11 points and 10 rebounds in NU s win over Florida on Nov. 17. She scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds and tied a career high with four assists while blocking three shots in Nebraska s win over Robert Morris on Dec. 2. She added a 17-point effort in a win over Creighton that included five rebounds and three blocked shots on Nov. 30. She had 16 points and eight rebounds in a loss at No. 18 Ohio State on Dec. 22, before producing 10 points, eight boards and three steals in NU s run past Denver on Dec. 30. Last year, Page bounced back quickly from ACL surgery on her right knee on June 29, 2006, to appear in NU s first game. She enjoyed her best season, averaging 7.0 points and 5.5 rebounds, including a season-high 17 points against Kansas on Jan. 27. It was one of seven double-figure scoring performances for Page as a junior, including her second career double-double with 11 points and 10 boards in NU s win over No. 25 Kansas State on Jan. 17. Page showed her defensive dominance throughout the season by setting NU s junior single-season record with 60 blocked shots, including a record-setting nine blocks, while tying a career high with 11 rebounds in Nebraska s win over No. 13 Baylor on Feb. 3. Page s effort against the Lady Bears was one of the best individual defensive performances in school history. She tied the previous school record with seven blocks in just 13 first-half minutes, before adding a pair after halftime. She also grabbed nine defensive rebounds. She added a strong effort in the NCAA Tournament with eight points, a game-high eight rebounds and an NU NCAA Tournament record five blocks in a loss to Temple on March 18. She added 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in NU s overtime loss to Iowa State in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals (March 7). Page scored eight straight points at the end of regulation and the start of overtime, including a pair of free throws with 9.7 seconds left in regulation to give NU a lead over ISU. Montgomery May Be Big 12 s Best Off the Bench Although Cory Montgomery made four consecutive starts to close non-conference action, the 6-2 sophomore forward returned to her role as one of the Big 12 Conference s best off the bench for the start of league play against No. 15 Texas when first-team All-Big 12 forward Kelsey Griffin returned to the lineup. Montgomery continued to supply big minutes for the Huskers by scoring 10 points and grabbing six rebounds in the win over the Longhorns. She added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds at No. 11 Oklahoma, before matching her career high with 21 points to go along with eight rebounds in just 23 minutes off the bench in NU s win at Iowa State on Jan. 19. It was her 13th double-figure scoring effort of the season. Through 23 games, Montgomery is averaging 10.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Montgomery gives the Huskers a formidable forward rotation, joining Danielle Page and Kelsey Griffin inside. She made her first career start in Nebraska s win at Long Beach State on Dec. 15, and scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, including her fourth three-pointer of the season against the 49ers. She added 14 points and six rebounds in a career-high 32 minutes in her second career start at No. 18 Ohio State on Dec. 22. Montgomery also knocked down a career-best two three-pointers against the Buckeyes. She pumped in 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds in a win over Denver on Dec. 30. Montgomery came up big in Nebraska s victory over USC on Dec. 8, by setting a career high with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds. She scored seven points in the final 3:14 to help NU turn a seven-point lead into an 18-point win, while scoring 14 of her game-high 21 points in the second half. In NU s win over Cal State Bakersfield, Montgomery scored nine points in the final eight minutes to help the Huskers surge to victory down the stretch. She hit 5-of-7 shots from the field for the game, missing only a pair of three-point attempts, to finish with 12 points. Montgomery produced the first double-double of her career with 16 points and a career-high 11 rebounds in Nebraska s win over Robert Morris on Dec. 2. She earned a spot on the five-player all-tournament team at the Oahu Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii, by averaging 10.3 points off the bench in three tournament games. Turner Turning it on in Big 12 Action Sophomore Yvonne Turner has turned up her production in Big 12 play. The 5-8 guard from Omaha is averaging 10.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 3.0 steals per game in league action. Turner, who is leading the Big 12 in both steals (3.0 spg) and three-point field goal percentage (50 percent, 15-30) in conference games only, is coming off an impressive 14-point effort at Colorado that included 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range. She added four steals, three rebounds and two assists in the come-from-behind win over the Buffs. Her final three-pointer tied the game at 64 with 3:30 left. She then stole the ball from CU s Whitney Houston at halfcourt and raced for an uncontested layup to put NU up Turner also hit three free throws in the final 1:45 to seal the win. In another clutch effort last week, Turner led NU back for a 14-point second-half deficit by scoring all nine of her points after halftime, including eight in the final 4:09 in NU s win at Missouri on Feb. 3. She opened league play with a similar nine-point, six-steal performance in a win over No. 15 Texas on Jan. 9. Turner scored all nine of her points in the second half to help the Huskers pull away from UT. Turner erupted for a career-high 18 points with a trio of three-pointers in a loss at No. 11 Oklahoma. She closed the best week of her career by posting 10 points, with three more threes, to go along with five assists and two steals in the Huskers 10-point win at Iowa State on Jan. 19. Turner continued her terrific play by posting 11 points, three assists and six steals while going head-to-head

7 Nebraska Women s Basketball Page 7 vs. Oklahoma State Feb. 10, 2008 Huskers.com with senior All-Big 12 guard A Quonesia Franklin from No. 21 Texas A&M. Turner s electric defense forced Franklin into six turnovers, while she held the senior to just four points and one assist in a Husker win. Turner ranks second in the league overall with 2.8 steals per game, while leading the Big 12 in league games only with 3.0 steals per contest. Turner s 65 steals this season are tied for fourth by a sophomore in school history and are 29 more than any Husker had all of last season. She owns at least one steal in 18 consecutive games, with at least two steals in 13 of those contests. She also owns seven double-figure scoring efforts on the year, including six in her last 13 games. Turner has hit 14-of-27 three-point attempts over the last seven games, after opening the year 7-of-38 from long range in the first 16 games. She had her most impressive defensive performance with a career-high eight steals in Nebraska s win over Florida on Nov. 17. Turner nabbed five steals in the first 1:31 of the second half, while her eight steals tied for the eighth-highest total in school history, just two shy of Kathy Hawkins school record. Amazingly, Turner recorded her eight steals in her first 12 minutes of action on the court in the game s first 22 minutes. She added eight more steals against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Jan.2), giving her two of the top-10 individual single-game steals efforts in school history. She is one of only three players in NU history to record eight or more steals twice in a career. Minimizing Minutes, Maximizing production Senior forward Danielle Page is leading the Huskers in playing time with 26.8 minutes per game. While she leads the Huskers, Page does not even crack the Big 12 s list of 30 leaders in playing time. In fact, Nebraska is the only team in the Big 12 that does not have a player who ranks among the top 30 in the league in minutes. The only other team with fewer than two players is Texas Tech (Dominic Seals, 30.0 mpg). Griffin Climbing Husker Career Scoring Chart Junior forward Kelsey Griffin has jumped to No. 14 on the Nebraska career scoring chart with 1,169 points. She needs 14 points to catch Jan Crouch in 13th with 1,183. In Nebraska s win over USC on Dec. 8, Griffin became the 23rd player in NU history to reach the 1,000-point mark in her career. She also became just the 15th player in school history with 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in her career. She enters the Oklahoma State game with 581 career boards. To join Nebraska s top-10 list as a scorer by the end of her junior season, Griffin will need to reach Diane DelVigna at 1,433 points. To become one of NU s top-10 career rebounders, Griffin (581) needs 60 more boards to catch Tina McClain at 641. Teammate Danielle Page (572) is also within striking distance of NU s top 10 in that category. Griffin needs three more blocks to crack NU s career top 10. She owns 60 blocks in her career and has 17 in her first 19 games this year. Pyra Aarden and Karen Jennings are tied for ninth on NU s career chart with 63 blocks. Freshman Kelley Produces Solid Early Numbers Lincoln native Dominique Kelley has her Husker career off to a strong start. The Lincoln Northeast High School graduate ranks sixth on the team in scoring with 6.8 points per game, while adding 3.1 rebounds per contest. She also ranks fourth on the squad with 2.2 assists per game. Kelley ranks among the top 10 freshmen in the Big 12 in scoring (ninth), rebounding (eighth) and assists (third). Her 15 three-pointers rank seventh. Kelley had a strong 10-point effort in a win over No. 21 Texas A&M, that included career highs with five assists and two steals. She also pulled down three boards against the Aggies. She is coming off another solid effort with 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal in NU s win at Colorado on Wednesday night. It was Kelley s sixth double-figure scoring effort of the year. She scored a game-high 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field in NU s win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Jan. 2. That effort followed a 15-point performance that included a career-high nine rebounds in a win over Denver on Dec. 30. Kelley also knocked down a career-high three three-pointers against the Pioneers. Kelley established her career high with 16 points in a win over Florida on Nov. 17, before leading the Huskers with 13 points and seven boards in a win over Akron on Nov. 25. She added a strong effort with nine points, five rebounds and two assists at No. 18 Ohio State on Dec. 22. Kelley is shooting a team-best 42.9 percent (15-35) from three-point range. She has been hot from long range in recent weeks, hitting 12-of-23 three-point attempts over the last 14 games. The 2007 Nebraska High School Player of the Year and a WBCA Honorable-Mention High School All-American, Kelley produced one of the best prep careers in Nebraska history at Lincoln Northeast. Kelley led the Rockets to a 70-3 record in her final three seasons, scoring 595 points as a senior, just 19 points shy of the Class A single-season scoring record set by former Husker and 1988 Big Eight Player-of-the-Year Maurtice Ivy. Kelley averaged 24.7 points per game last year. Hester Gives Huskers All-Around Threat On The Wing Junior guard Tay Hester has given Nebraska an all-around offensive and defensive threat on the wing early in her Husker career. The 5-10 guard from Moreno Valley, Calif., produced her first career double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds in the season opener against her former teammates from UTEP. Hester s double-double was the first by a Husker wing player since Keasha Cannon-Johnson had 11 points and 10 rebounds in NU s Postseason WNIT victory over Drake on March 18, Hester closed her strong weekend by adding 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the win over Ole Miss on Nov. 11. Hester added a team-high four assists, to go along with four rebounds and a steal against the Rebels. Preseason Big 12 Conference Poll Team (1st Place Votes) Points Finish 1.
