12 1959 Basketball While many GCU athletic teams have experienced National Championship success, only one team can lay claim to finishing their season without a loss. The Grand Canyon Men s Basketball team did just that, 20 consecutive victories in a 20 game schedule. No team in the now 60 year history of GCU athletics can match that feat. Dr. Dave Brazell guided the team that would turn the corner on establishing GCU as a championship quality small college basketball program. In their era, the Lopes were a scoring machine, averaging 82.4 points per game and outscored their opponents by an average of nearly 19 points per game. Inducted April 1991

After winning that title, Marlene followed another call, serving with a Christian ministries program outside of tennis in southern California. A three-time NAIA First Team All American, she teamed with two different partners (Pat Smith- Evola in 1981 & 1982 and Jo Murto in 1983) to win three NAIA Doubles National Championship Awards. Karen was also a two-time quarterfinalist in NAIA Singles (1981 and 1982) and capped her career by being named Outstanding Performer at the 1983 NAIA National Championships. Inducted April 1991
