1 STBL/Basketball Hobart Discussion Paper Summary SBL & BHJ review for club discussion Oct/Nov 12
2 As a result of the Southern Tasmanian Basketball League (STBL) be part of the solution not part of the problem forum [note this was an open forum to the basketball fraternity in Southern Tasmania in July 2011], a discussion paper was formulated. From this forum, a team of representatives from across the following associations including: STBL SBL BHJ Hobart Chargers have been meeting on a regular basis to develop and take on a pro-active role in delivering reforms for the development of Basketball in Southern Tasmania. In the original forum, the STBL were given a mandate to initiate and provide a paper that would investigate changes to the current structure of Basketball in Southern Tasmania both in its physical and financial modelling. The team have been involved in discussions around a comprehensive restructure of Basketball at the administrative and organisational level. From these discussions it is proposed that STBL be rebadged as Basketball Hobart. From the development of Basketball Hobart will evolve major reform to flow down through all levels of Basketball in the south. The representatives from STBL, SBL, BHJ and Hobart Chargers are providing advice as to the ongoing development and implementation of the proposed reforms over which they have jurisdiction.

4 Why Restructure Unanimous agreement by Basketball Community in Sep 2011 for a single entity Requirement of State and Local Govt to have a united entity. To Improve sporting outcomes for players, officials & administrators ( Academy ) To provide opportunities for development across the sport To improve the strategic direction and governance of basketball To provide professional Administration support (GM & Assistants) To grow the sport - ASC & BA desire to increase participation Rates through additional funding. Is Elitism a limiting factor in growing the sport? To grow the sport by creating 4 centres of major Basketball Activity- Eastern, Western, Northern, Southern To develop at least one central home, with 4 courts & a Show Court, for Basketball. To increase volunteer support - limited but not necessarily venue limited To provide common branding of Regional teams eg of this are U12 & U14 in Chargers colours at recent National U14 Club in Adelaide and Perth. To Maintain two teams in SEABL
5 Outcomes to Date STBL established a WTFH committee (Kevin, Glenn, Tim) and other representatives WTFH morphed into BHWG BHWG constituted to transition to BH BH business name registered BH Bank account opened BHC Constitution being developed to replace STBL Constitution Academy Paper developed TV awareness campaign on Southern cross TV Foundation membership package and brochure has been developed to generate $100,000 Grant for up to $80,000 from SRT being developed U12 & U14 Regional teams in Regional Uniforms as the Chargers Funding models for SBL, BHJ, Chargers and STBL are being developed A review of branding is currently taking place BHJ developed to provide a united single peak body for Junior Competition SBL continues and is encouraged to become the preeminent Senior Basketball competition in Tasmanian basketball. Revellers Association developed to provide Northern basketball development opportunities Strategic Plan developed and agreed to by BHWG Chargers imports contracted to work in Hobart for the Southern Region. Coaching level accreditation Induction for Chargers Imports agreed upon BHWG has secured stewardship of Stadium development Discussions ongoing with GCC re stadium development in Glenorchy BHWG continues to work with NFSRA Sponsorship opportunities are being considered with a major company

9 BHJ fee structure for 2013 Player Registration to STBL $6 has been $3 for last 5 years BH Membership fee $20/player for discussion & approval by club delegates Game fee $50/game - covers NFSRA court hire and referees & other incidental overheads Areas identified to reduce costs/increase external funding Remove $2 for representative uniform replacement based on decision to send club teams to State C Ships no future uniform replacement or entry fees Review $50 game fee NFSRA court will increase in line with CPI amount to be announced after their Nov board meeting, so may impact on reducing game fee Corporate sponsorship BH administration to assist If Chargers import engaged through BHJ money raised from camps/skill sessions etc Cheques sent to GHBA State representatives
