6 Tampa Bay Lightning: Media Notes TONIGHT'S MATCHUP The Lightning kick off their landmark 20th Anniversary NHL season tonight when they host the Washington Capitals at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Tonight's game is the first of four meetings between the two division rivals, with each of the first two both being played in Tampa Bay. The Lightning won their final home game of the season against the Capitals, 4-2, with Steven Stamkos notching the game-winning goal. The Lightning won all three games against the Capitals at the Times Forum last season and picked up points in five of six games total (3-1-2). TONIGHT'S STORYLINES Tonight's matchup features the top two goal scorers in the NHL over the past three seasons. Steven Stamkos has scored 156 goals, while Alex Ovechkin has tallied 120 since the beginning of the season...the Lightning will play six of their first eight games on home ice to open the season...the Lightning finished the season winning their final four games at the Times Forum and finished with a record of at home, ranking fourth in the Eastern Conference in wins at home, while also tying a franchise record. Three of the six games between the Bolts and Caps last season were decided in either overtime or a shootout. LIGHTNING SEASON OPENERS The Lightning have never faced the Washington Capitals in a season opener in the team's history...tampa Bay holds an all-time record of in season openers and are opening seasons on home ice...the Lightning have won each of their past two season openers (at Carolina in and versus Atlanta in )...In the Bolts opened up their regular season with five straight road contests. STAMKOS SHINES IN OVERTIME Steven Stamkos set a new NHL record last season by scoring his fifth overtime goal on 3/31 vs. WPG. He had been tied for the record with nine other players.
