1 Saskatchewan Hockey Association 2019 National Coaching Certification Program High Performance I Seminar May 24-26, 2019 in Saskatoon and June 7-9, 2019 in Regina Attendance mandatory for BOTH weekends All Head Coaches coaching Bantam, Midget, Junior A teams that compete in Interprovincial or National Championships or the highest level as determined by the Branch, must be High Performance 1 Certified. This includes Saskatchewan coaches coaching Bantam AA male, Midget AAA male and female & Junior A. It is required that all Assistant coaches be at minimum Development 1 trained. This took effect in the 2015/16 season and 2016/17 for Junior A. Rationale: Note 1: At minimum an HP1 trained coach must be on the bench for all games and on ice at all practices. -Consistency / Standardization in coach education for coaches working with like athletes across the country. -The athletes in question are on the pathway of entering high performance programming in either Branch and / or National programs (LTPD guidelines) therefore it is important that the coaches are provided with the appropriate materials to help them achieve that level. -Ensure that all coaches have the latest and most pertinent coaching resources for the athletes they are coaching. -Improve HP1 enrolment of qualified candidates in Branch HP1 Seminars. -Goal would be for each Branch to move as many coaches as possible through to the certified status within 2 years of becoming Trained The NCCP High Performance I seminar will feature professional speakers delivering sessions featuring topics such as specialty teams, yearly planning, offensive/defensive individual tactics, offensive/defensive team play systems, goaltending, Mental Training, Off-Ice Training and many more. The NCCP HP I delegates will be guided by some of the best leaders in Canada. Past guest speakers have included coaches from a wide range of levels and teams, including University, Junior, Minor Professional, Europe, and National Hockey League coaches. 1

2 High Performance I Background and Eligibility Criteria The NCCP High Performance I Seminar is historically held every two (2) years in Saskatchewan and is targeted at those coaches who have significant coaching experience, and want to pursue High Performance coaching opportunities with competitive athletes. With the changes to the coaching certifications Saskatchewan Hockey Association will be offering a two (2) weekend course. All coaches applying for NCCP High Performance Level I Certification through this Seminar will be reviewed by the SHA coaching committee: Coaches Coaching in the Male programs and Female programs that require HP1 will be given preference to acceptance in the seminar. NOTE: As per new Hockey Canada guidelines for the NCCP program, coaches DO NOT have to have completed NCCP Development Level certification before applying for the NCCP High Performance I seminar. To complete the NCCP High Performance I field evaluation following the seminar, coaches must meet the following criteria: For coaches in the Male program, you should be head coaching at the Bantam level or higher in the season, or be assistant coaching at the Midget level or higher. For coaches in the female program, you should be head coaching at the Midget level or higher or be assistant coaching at the College, University or Senior level in the season. All candidates applying for NCCP HPI Certification will be subject to selection by the Saskatchewan Hockey Association. Not all applicants will necessarily qualify for acceptance to the NCCP High Performance I Seminar. High Performance I Certification Process Participants must successfully complete the 4 evaluation stages in order: 1. Seminar attendance & workgroup evaluation - May 24-26, 2019 in Saskatoon and June 7-9, 2019 in Regina - Attendance mandatory for BOTH weekends = HP1 in-training 2. completion of 3 Multi Sport online evaluation modules deadline July Post-Seminar written examination submission deadline June 2020 (must be passed by September 1, 2020 = HP1 trained 4. Field evaluation - after October 1, 2020 Coaches will have two hockey seasons after attending the seminar to be fully certified. Field evaluations will only be completed under the minimum guidelines as set forth by Hockey Canada and Saskatchewan Hockey Association. 2

A maximum of 36 delegates will be selected to attend this Seminar. Seminar Costs 2019 SHA National Coaching Certification Program High Performance I Seminar Costs includes Seminar Binder, HP1 resources, Practical Evaluations, and Apparel. Seminar costs also include: o Lunches (Saturday and Sunday) and Coffee breaks during the seminar o Post seminar written exam grading and marking o Upon completion of passing the written exam, costs include field evaluations for completing the HP1 certification. SHA Branch Coaches: $1000 (GST included) Non-SHA Branch Coaches: $1250 (GST included) *Accommodations and meals (other than lunches) are delegates responsibility 3

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY Upon acceptance into the 2019 High Performance 1, full payment due by April 30 th, 2019 If full payment is not received your spot will be replaced. Any cancellation between May 1 st and May 15 th will be subject to a $250 cancellation fee.
