1 Belper Mini Hockey Summer Newsletter 2018 I hope you are all enjoying the summer and are looking forward to the new season. I m sure we ll all return inspired by the amazing hockey we ve seen at the Hockey World Cup where we had 3 of our very own Belper Ladies in the squad. Training starts on Sunday 9 th September at 9:30am to 10:30am for the Little Stars and 9:30am to 11:00am for the U10s (school years 4 &5). The U12s (school years 6 & 7) start back on Monday 10 th September 7:00 to 8:30pm. Last year was a successful season for Belper Mini Hockey. We had around 120 children train most weeks, despite the freezing temperatures! All teams attended a number of tournaments and we had fixtures arranged with Beeston, Repton, Foremarke and others. It was great to see so many children competing in competitive fixtures despite many being fairly new to the sport. The County Championships were held at Belper once more and we were able to enter 8 teams this year, 2 in each age-group, testament to our increasing numbers and levels of commitment from children and parents. All 4 of our age-groups had a team qualifying to the Regional Finals quite a feat! The U10 Boys, U12 Girls and Boys all qualified as runners-up and our U10 Girls were victorious in a penalty shootout to go through as County Champions! All our teams dug deep in the Reginal Finals against the best teams in the Midlands and after plenty of drama on the day as usual, we finished strongly as a club with teams placed 5 th 6 th, 8 th and 9 th out of 16. The number of postponements and cancellations tested our communication network on a few occasions and we are reorganising ourselves this season to make sure the comms are received by everyone in a timely manner. Look out for more info on this before the temperatures drop again! We will continue to use our Facebook group as an easy method of communication so please join the group if you haven t already. Search for Belper Mini Hockey & request to join. We will also be using our MiniHoc webpage more for news & calendar updates this year so please bookmark this. You will find term dates & fixtures here. Looking ahead, we are fortunate to have some new parent helpers coming on board this year thank you you know who you are! Details of coaches, squad managers and other contacts are on page 3. We are always looking for volunteers to help the club run smoothly. If you have any skills to offer and a little time, please get in touch. below.
2 We also had a successful year with regard to fundraising. As a section we raised over 2000 through our Sponsored Beat the Goalie and end of season Presentation night. I m happy to say that the New Clubhouse will be fully operational for the start of our season we re looking at having teas and coffees available during our training sessions and also holding some social events for the children this season, so look out for further comms on this. Looking at the wider club, many of you will know that our Men s and Ladies 1 st Teams have both been promoted into the National Leagues for this season, which means there will be some really high quality hockey to watch at Belper. We re planning to keep everyone up to date on these fixtures and on occasion organize MiniHoc fixtures or events prior to these games giving us an opportunity to support our senior teams. See you pitchside! Volunteers are always needed, no experience necessary, just lots of enthusiasm. If you want to help coach or manage a team, please let me know. FEES FOR THIS SEASON There will be no increase in fees this season, but we are simplifying payment methods to reduce the admin burden. From now on we will be a cash and cheque free section. Group Cost for the season Little Stars 80 U10s 100 U12s 120
4 This season we are moving to payment by Direct Debit, using the provider GoCardless. Fees will be charged in 2 instalments in September and January and you will receive an requesting sign-up & consent following your registration. For anyone who would rather pay up-front, a one-off BACs payment can be made as an alternative. Where a family has more than one child in Mini Hockey, a 50% reduction will apply to the younger child. Where a family has older children in other sections of Belper Hockey Club, a 20% reduction will apply. Registration will take place in early September and detailed instructions will follow at the start of the season. We will be changing our registration procedures to comply with the new data regulations. NEW STARTERS Due to the number of new starters in recent years we have decided to limit start dates to the beginning of each half-term. This will allow us to ensure a positive introductory session with a group of other new starters. New Starters will be eligible for one free trial session. Following this, fees will be prorated depending on start date. We will no longer be accepting cash at the pitch side. TEAM SELECTION It is acknowledged that playing competitive matches is important to a young player s development. Where possible, depending on the availability of coaches and volunteers, we endeavour to put out two teams giving players equal access to playing fixtures. These teams will be selected on ability, attitude and attendance. The children who make the most progress in a season are those who attend regularly. Towards the end of the season the County and Regional squads will be selected on ability as we play to win these. CLUB CLOTHING The new Adidas kit came in last season and is looking very smart. We will have samples of playing shirts and hoodies available at the start of the season so that children can try them for size. The lead time for most items is 2 weeks, but for playing shirts it is 2-3 months as the suppliers wait for a minimum order no, to process. Kit can be ordered here :
5 Players will continue to be provided with match shirts for fixtures as needed, so purchase is not essential, but where possible it makes life easier if the children have their own playing shirts once they start playing regularly. KIT & SAFETY EQUIPMENT Each player should have shin pads and gum guard. A stick is also useful but these can be lent out. If you require any help in purchasing the right stick please feel free to talk to any of the coaches. CODE OF CONDUCT Players FUN, POSITIVE ATTITUDES and GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP Respect for the game It is about friendship, enjoyment and always participating with the right spirit. Be on time for training. Give maximum effort and strive for the best possible performance. Respect for others Umpires, officials, coaches, opponents and spectators should be valued. Respect the decisions of umpires and officials. Protect others involved in the game from verbal or physical abuse and other forms of threatening or intimidating behaviour such as bullying. Self-Respect Young people should take responsibility for their actions on and off the pitch. Never use inappropriate language or gestures. Wear suitable clothing for taking part. Respect the facilities where you play and the equipment you use. Tell someone you trust if the behaviour of others makes you feel uncomfortable in any way. Code of Conduct for Parents Do not force an unwilling young player to participate. Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them. Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding good performances of all. Never shout or belittle your child for poor performance. Publicly accept coaches and umpires decisions. Support the volunteer coaches. Help your child recognise good performance, not just results. Insist your child uses protective equipment such as mouth guards and shin pads.
