The Terriers are 4-5 all-time with the NCAA championship on the line, having won the national title in 1971, 1972, 1978 and most recently in With Thursday s thrilling 5-4 victory over Vermont in the semifinals, the Terriers tied the school record for wins in a season with 34 - the most by any team since Michigan recorded 35 in the season. The last team to enter the national title game with 34 wins was Maine in , when it went a remarkable en route to the NCAA title. The Terriers handed the Black Bears their lone loss that season. The Terriers have now made 21 NCAA semifinal appearances, including two streaks of five straight ( , ), and are now (.476) all-time in the semifinal round. Vermont was the only team in the country that had a winning record against the Terriers, but Thursday s result means the two Hockey East rivals split their four meetings this season. A win against Miami would allow BU to become the first team since Minnesota in 2003 to not have a losing record against any opponent. In their last six games, the Terriers have ended the season of six opponents, including five Hockey East schools. BU eliminated Maine, Boston College and UMass Lowell in the Hockey East playoffs before defeating Ohio State and New Hampshire in the NCAA Northeast Regional. This is the first time that an NCAA title will be awarded in the nation s capital SO FAR, A SUCCESS BU has tied the program record held by the team for wins in a season with 34. Fifteen years ago, that team reached the NCAA title game, where it fell to Lake Superior State. This is the fifth time in program history that the Terriers have reached the 30-win plateau. Since Nov. 25, the Terriers are , and since Jan. 16. That run included a 17-game unbeaten streak (14-0-3). The Terriers won 27 games during the regular season for the first time since the campaign. Dating back to Feb. 8 of last season, the Terriers are in their last 57 games. KING OF THE HILL Jack Parker will attempt to become the first Division I coach to earn 30 career NCAA tournament victories, as the win over Vermont tied him with BC s Jerry York for the most ever at 29. Parker is coaching BU in the NCAAs for the 23rd time, breaking the all-time record set by Ron Mason, who made 22 NCAA appearances as a coach (19 at Michigan State, three at Bowling Green). On Thursday, Parker made his 13th NCAA semifinal appearance as a coach, also a record. GILROY WINS HOBEY Senior defenseman and co-captain Matt Gilroy was named the 2009 recipient of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given to the top player in collegiate hockey, on Friday evening. Gilroy, sophomore Colin Wilson and Northeastern goaltender Brad Thiessen were the three finalists for the award. He becomes just the second Terrier to win the award, joining Chris Drury (1998). Hobey criteria includes strength of character on and off the ice, displaying outstanding skills in all phases of the game, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements. Gilroy was selected from a group of 10 finalists by the votes of a 25-member selection committee, along with the results of an online fan ballot. Gilroy becomes the seventh Hockey East player to win the award, and the first since Boston College s Mike Mottau in ROAD WARRIORS BU is undefeated in its last 18 games (16-0-2) away from home, its longest such stretch in program history. The previous record of 14 was established between March 26, 1977, and Feb. 16, 1978, when BU won 14 straight contests away from Walter Brown Arena. The Terriers also put together a stretch away from Agganis in Freshman goaltender Kieran Millan is away from Agganis this season. The schools first met on Dec. 28, 1992, in the opening round of the Badger Showdown in Madison, Wis., with BU earning a 4-3 victory. In their last meeting, BU and Miami opened the season at the Lefty McFadden Invitational on Oct. 8. Miami posted a 5-1 victory. SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS Despite falling to Northern Michigan in three games in the CCHA quarterfinals, Miami earned the next-to-last at-large bid to the NCAAs and has reeled off victories over Denver, Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State to reach the national title game for the first time in program history. The RedHawks finished tied for second in the CCHA regular-season standings. Sophomore forward Carter Camper has turned in season with a team-best 41 points (20g, 21a), while classmate Pat Cannone has tallied 35 points on 11 goals and 24 assists. Freshman Chris Wideman has a team-best 26 assists and is tied with fellow rookie blueliner Matt Tomassoni for the team lead in plus/minus at plus-10. Like the Terriers, the RedHawks have relied on a pair of freshman netminders this season, as Connor Knapp and Cody Reichard have earned 21 and 19 starts, respectively. Reichard, however, has taken over the primary goaltending duties and has allowed only four goals in Miami s three NCAA games combined. He boasts a 2.02 goals-against average and a.917 save percentage. The RedHawks rank eighth nationally in scoring defense at 2.12 and boast the nation s second-best penalty kill, operating at an 89.6 success rate. Enrico Blasi is in his 10th year at the helm of his alma mater and has a career record of HEAD TO HEAD COMMON OPPONENTS BU and Miami have six common opponents on the year (Vermont, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Renesslaer, Denver) The Terriers are 7-2 against those teams, including a perfect 3-0 against the CCHA, while the RedHawks are NCAA TOURNAMENT NOTES WILSON PROPELS BU INTO NCAA TITLE GAME Sophomore Colin Wilson broke a 4-4 tie at 14:19 of the third period with his second goal of the night to lift Boston University into the national championship game with a 5-4 win over Vermont in the NCAA Frozen Four on Thursday night at the Verizon Center. After scoring the first two goals of the game, the Terriers were forced to come back from a pair of one-goal deficits, as Vermont responded with a three-goal run in the second before BU got a goal back in the late stages of the middle period to make it a 3-3 contest. The Catamounts regained the lead on their second power-play goal of the game at 9:40 of the third. Senior Chris Higgins, who matched a career high with a game-best four points (1g, 3a), tied the game at 4 with 6:54 to play and then set up the game-winner less than a minute later. Following a saved shot from the stick of Higgins, Wilson was above the left post to deposit the rebound under the crossbar before the Terrier defense held on in the closing minutes. In a battle of freshman goaltenders, national rookie of the year Kieran Millan made 23 saves for the Terriers, while Rob Madore also recorded 23 stops in the Vermont net. Wilson registered two goals and an assist, while senior Jason Lawrence posted a goal and an assist, as the line of Higgins-Wilson-Lawrence was responsible for nine of the Terriers 14 points on the night. 3 the game s biggest goal when he tied the contest late in the second. The game got off to a sluggish start, but the Terriers hit their stride in the latter part of the first period, breaking through when sophomore Kevin Shattenkirk sent the puck towards the slot and Wilson provided a nifty finish, redirecting the puck between his own legs to put BU on the board at 11:19. Lawrence doubled the Terriers lead before the opening frame was through, passing to Higgins, who returned the puck for Lawrence to chip in on the high glove side. The Catamounts struck back in the second, claiming the lead after three unanswered goals in the first part of the frame. Sophomore Wahsontiio Stacey struck with a wrister from the right circle to tally Vermont s first goal at the 3:50 mark. Vermont changed the complexion of the game with a pair of goals 45 seconds apart. Sophomore Justin Milo tied the game on a power play at 9:04, banging in a rebound off Millan s pad. Sophomore Josh Burrows gave the Catamounts the lead at 9:49 pulling in a loose puck in the neutral zone and shooting glove side from the high slot. Sophomore Nick Bonino outmaneuvered a Vermont defenseman and dished to Saponari, who sent in a one-timer over Madore s shoulder to tie the score at 3-3 at 18:39. BU continued its strong play in the third, but the Catamounts struck first in the final frame, scoring on the power play at 9:40 when freshman Drew MacKenzie scored his first collegiate goal with a shot from near the blue line that Millan got a piece of before it trickled into the net. Higgins answered to tie the game once again for the Terriers at 13:06. Junior Brian Strait picked up the puck in the neutral zone and passed to Lawrence in the slot. Lawrence dished to Higgins on the right side, who sent in a wrister to tie the game and set up Wilson s heroics just over a minute later. Freshman goaltender Kieran Millan was outstanding all game for the Terriers making a handful of standout stops in a 12-save first period and collecting 27 saves in the game. Lawrence was named the Most Outstanding Player of the regional and was joined on the All-Tournament team by Millan, senior Matt Gilroy and sophomore Nick Bonino. A UNH hooking penalty at 19:14 of the third allowed Lawrence to score the winner by taking a shot from the left of the crease that was headed wide, but a UNH defenseman sprawled on the ice in an attempt to block the pass and knocked the puck into the goal. The Terriers got on the board first 13:43 into the game on a goal by freshman Corey Trivino, but the Wildcats recorded an equalizer just under six minutes into the second. The Wildcats had back-to-back breakaway chances near the 15-minute mark of third, first a 3-on-1 and then a 2-on-1, but Millan was up to the task both times, capped by a fantastic glove save. TERRIERS ROLL PAST OHIO STATE BU scored the first six goals of the game and got at least one point from 11 different players to secure an 8-3 victory over fourth-seeded Ohio State in the NCAA Northeast Regional semifinals on March 28. Senior Jason Lawrence and junior Zach Cohen each scored twice, while senior Matt Gilroy tallied a career-high four assists. Sophomore Nick Bonino tallied a goal and two assists and seniors Brandon Yip and Chris Higgins each had one goal and one assist. Sophomores Colby Cohen and Colin Wilson each contributed a pair of assists. Freshman Kieran Millan recorded 22 saves for the Terriers to earn his 26th victory of the year and break the school record for wins by a goaltender in a single season. BU snapped an 0-for-21 skid on the power play when Bonino wristed a shot from the right circle that beat Carlson high at 8:49 of the first to open the scoring. NCAA RECORD The Terriers enter Saturday s title game with an all-time record of (.536) in NCAA tournament play. The 37 wins are the third most in tournament history. The only programs with more victories are Minnesota (49) and Michigan (44). The Terriers won the title in 1971, 1972, 1978 and They finished second five times (1950, 1967, 1991, 1994 and 1997), third five times (1951, 1960, 1974, 1975 and 1977) and fourth three times (1953, 1966 and 1976). There was no consolation game in 1990, 1993 or 1996 to determine if BU finished third or fourth. CURRENT TERRIERS IN THE TOURNAMENT Of this year s Terrier roster, 18 players now have NCAA tournament experience and 15 of them have figured into the scoring. Thanks to his game-high four points in Thursday s win over Vermont and his hat trick as a freshman in BU s first-round victory over Nebraska-Omaha, senior Chris Higgins has a team-high 10 points (5g, 5a) in NCAA play, while classmates Jason Lawrence (4g, 3a) and Brandon Yip (1g, 5a) have tallied seven and six points, respectively. Hobey Baker finalists Colin Wilson (2g, 3a) and senior Matt Gilroy (5a) each have registered five points. Each of BU s last five NCAA losses has occurred against a team that advanced to the national title game, but only Michigan State (2007) went on to capture the title. THIRTY-SOMETHING This year s Terrier squad is one of 71 teams to have earned 30 wins heading into the NCAA tournament during its 62-year history and the 12th Hockey East team to achieve the feat. This is just the second time in program history that the Terriers have 30 wins entering the national tournament ( ). HOCKEY EAST WRAP-UP MILLAN NAMED ROOKIE OF THE YEAR Freshman goaltender Kieran Millan became the third Boston University player in the last four years to be named Hockey East Rookie of the Year and was one of a league-high four Terriers named to the conference s all-star teams at the league s annual banquet on March 19. Senior Matt Gilroy and sophomore Colin Wilson were first-team honorees, as Gilroy became the first defenseman in league history to be named to the first team three times. Millan and sophomore Kevin Shattenkirk earned second-team accolades, while sophomore Nick Bonino and senior Chris Higgins were honorable mention selections. Millan joins Brandon Yip (2006) and Wilson (2008) as current Terriers who have claimed the Rookie of the Year award and he is the sixth BU player to earn the honor. He joins the late Scott Cashman (1990) and Rick DiPietro (2000) as the only other Terrier goaltenders to earn the accolade. Millan posted an impressive record during league play and his goals against average of 1.80 against conference opponents was nearly three-tenths better than any other Hockey East netminder. MILLAN BACKSTOPS BU TO HOCKEY EAST TITLE Tournament MVP Kieran Millan posted 32 saves and senior Brandon Yip recorded a late first-period goal to lead top-seeded Boston University past UMass Lowell, 1-0, in the Hockey East title game on Saturday evening at TD Banknorth Garden. For the second time in his career, Yip recorded a game-winning goal in the league title game after tallying one in overtime in 2006 to push BU past Boston College, 2-1. Senior John McCarthy and freshman David Warsofsky recorded assists on the goal at the 18:38 mark in the first period. The Terriers penalty kill squashed all seven of the River Hawks man advantages, including a 5-on-3 chance in the middle of the third. BU was whistled for another penalty with 1:52 remaining in regulation, and soon thereafter with an empty net, the River Hawks had a 6-on-4 advantage. Still, BU s defense held strong and pulled out the league s third-ever shutout in title-game history. Millan was one save shy of his career high of 33 and withstood a 14-shot barrage by the River Hawks in the second period. The freshman made the last of his 32 saves with 1.5 seconds remaining to seal the victory. Junior Nevin Hamilton turned in a strong 31-save performance for fifth-seeded UMass Lowell, which entered the title game on a five-game win streak. Joining Millan on the All-Tournament Team were McCarthy, senior Matt Gilroy and sophomore Colin Wilson. UMass Lowell filled up the other two spots on the squad with sophomores Scott Campbell and Maury Edwards. TERRIERS EDGE BC IN SEMIFINAL Boston University scored three goals in a 44-second span in the third period to erase a 1-0 deficit before holding on to post a 3-2 semifinal victory over No. 15 Boston College. Juniors Zach Cohen and Brian Strait and sophomore Colin Wilson all scored in the 12th minute of play in the third period after BC got on the board first at the 17:50 mark of the second. The Eagles scored just as a BU penalty expired with 5:42 left in regulation, but the Terriers held on to advance to the championship game. Both teams went 0-for-5 on the power play and BC held a shot advantage, but BU scored on three of its four shots in the decisive third period. Kieran Millan made 21 saves in the BU goal while his counterpart, sophomore John Muse, made 18 saves for the Eagles. QUARTERFINAL RECAP For the third straight year, the Terriers needed a third and decisive game to clinch their Hockey East quarterfinal series, as they defeated eighth-seeded Maine, 6-2, on March 15. BU had matched its longest unbeaten streak in the last 30 years with a run before Maine pulled off the victory on Saturday. The Terriers got goals from six different players in Sunday s clincher. Maine went 6-of-15 on the power play in the series, including a 4-for-7 showing on Saturday. BU converted on just one of its 19 power-play chances on the weekend. Sophomore Colby Cohen had two goals, including Friday s game-winner on a 5-3 power play with 2:56 left in regulation, and one assist in the series. Freshman Gustav Nyquist, who had three goals on the weekend, scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead Maine to its win and force a deciding Game 3. The Black Bears earned their first victory in Agganis Arena in their eighth contest in the building. When Maine scored three times in the first period of Saturday s contest, it marked the first time all season that BU had allowed three goals in a period. BU BLANKS PC TO CLAIM REGULAR-SEASON CROWN After looking up to Northeastern all year in the Hockey East standings, the Terriers finally leapt past the Huskies on the final day of the regular season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Providence on March 8 at Agganis Arena. The victory allowed BU to earn its second league regular-season crown in the last four years. BU has now won the Hockey East regular-season championship eight times, sharing it on two of those occasions. The Terriers finished with 18 wins in league play for the first time since the season. Freshman Grant Rollheiser made 16 saves to record his first collegiate shutout. TERRIER NOTES THREE TERRIERS GARNER ALL-AMERICA HONORS For just the third time in the last 30 years, BU had two players earn first-team All-America honors, as senior Matt Gilroy and sophomore Colin Wilson were named to the Reebok All-America East First Team, while sophomore Kevin Shattenirk earned second-team accolades. Gilroy becomes just the third Terrier to become a three-time All-American, while Wilson and Shattenkirk are first-time honorees. MILLAN EARNS NATIONAL HONOR Freshman goaltender Kieran Millan was named the HCA National Rookie of the Year on Friday. He is the first Hockey East player and the second goaltender to win the award in its brief three-year history. Millan is so far in his rookie campaign and his winning percentage of.894 is the best in the nation. He went undefeated in 20 straight decisions (17-0-3) before suffering a loss to Maine in the Hockey East quarterfinals. With his win over Ohio State in the NCAA Northeast Regional semifinal, Millan earned his 26th win to break the school record for wins in a single season by a goaltender. Jack Ferreria ( ) and Cleon Daskalakis ( ) shared the previous record of 25. Millan set the program record for best winning percentage in the first 20 decisions of a career (18-1-1,.925). Brian Durocher, BU s current women s hockey head coach, started out as a freshman in before earning the loss in goal in the NCAA semifinals against Michigan Tech. Millan s goals against average of 1.92 is good for fifth in the country and is tops in Hockey East, while and his.921 save percentage ranks 17th nationally. He has given up more than one goal in a period just seven times in his last 81 full stanzas between the pipes. Millan was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month back-to-back times, posting a record and 1.00 goals against average in January after putting together a December that included a record with a 1.30 goals against average. He was also tabbed as the Hockey East Rookie of the Month for March. Millan earned a win in each of his first five starts, becoming the first BU netminder to do so since Michel Larocque ( season). HOBEY HAT TRICK TURNS UP TERRIER PAIR Senior defenseman Matt Gilroy and sophomore forward Colin Wilson were two of the three Hobey Hat Trick finalists. Northeastern goaltender Brad Thiessen rounds out the trio of finalists, marking the first time that all three have come from the same conference. This is just the second time that two players from the same school have been included in the Hobey Hat Trick, as Brett Sterling and eventual winner Marty Sertich of Colorado College were both among the three finalists in While this is the 29th year that the Hobey is being awarded, it is just the ninth year that the top 10 finalists have been narrowed to three to form the Hobey Hat Trick. Gilroy and Wilson are the first BU players to be part of a Hobey Hat Trick. Chris Drury is the only BU player to have won the award, having earned the accolade as a senior in This is just the second time in program history that BU has two top-10 Hobey finalists, as both Drury and Jay Pandolfo were among the final 10 in The Terriers last Hobey finalist was John Curry in Gilroy was one of only two defensemen among the finalists, joining Jamie McBain of Wisconsin, and Alaska goaltender Chad Johnson was the only other senior in the top 10. WALTER BROWN GOES TO GILROY Hobey Baker finalist Matt Gilroy added college hockey s oldest honor to his growing list of accolades, as the senior defenseman was named the winner of the 57th Walter Brown Award, given annually to best American-born college hockey player in New England. Gilroy is the 11th Terrier to earn the award and the first since John Curry in FOUR TERRIERS EARN ALL-NEW ENGLAND HONORS Senior Matt Gilroy, sophomores Kevin Shattenkirk and Colin Wilson, and freshman Kieran Millan were all named to the New England Division I All-Star Team. Three of them earned individual awards as well, as Gilroy was named New England s top defenseman (Bob Monahan Award) for the second consecutive year, while Wilson (Herb Gallagher Award) and Millan (George C. Carens Award) were named top forward and rookie, respectively.

They became the eighth team in league history - and the first since BC in to finish first in both scoring offense and scoring defense. FASTEST TO 20 BU reached the 20-win mark earlier than ever before in the program s 88-season history with its triumph over Harvard on Feb. 2 in the Beanpot. The previous record was beaten by one day, as the team earned its 20th victory on Feb. 3. CLASS ACT This year s six-member senior class has posted a (.678) record during its four seasons at BU. That is the most since the Class of 1999 also recorded 98 wins, but only 14 in its final season. The Terriers winningest class ever was the Class of 1996, which graduated with an impressive total of 124 victories. NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS BU was the only team in the country to post a perfect non-conference record (9-0-0) during the regular season. Last year, the Terriers went in non-conference play. BU went undefeated in its 10 non-conference games (9-0-1) during the season, but had not won its first eight non-league contests since the campaign, when it was a perfect BU has not lost to a non-hockey East team since Dartmouth on Jan. 15, RANK AND FILE The Terriers are ranked first in both national polls for the eighth time in the last 10 weeks. BU had a six-week run at the top of the USCHO national poll come to an end on March 16, marking their longest run as the No. 1 team in the 12-year history of the poll. On Nov. 10 of this season, BU was ranked first in both national polls for the first time since March 20, The Terriers had not been at the top of the polls during the regular season since Jan. 5, In just its fourth season at the varsity level, the Terriers women s ice hockey team earned its highest ranking ever in November when it was fourth in the USCHO.com poll. COUNT ON IT The Terriers are undefeated in the 26 games ( ) in which sophomore Nick Bonino has scored at least one point this season. ALL-AMERICAN HERO Senior defenseman Matt Gilroy became just the third player in Boston University hockey history to earn All-America honors three times with his first-team accolades on Friday. The Hobey Baker winner was also named to the RBK All-America First Team last year after earning second-team honors as a sophomore. Rick Meagher 77 earned first-team honors three straight seasons, while Chris Drury 98 was named to the second team before capping his career with back-to-back first-team accolades. Gilroy leads all Hockey East defensemen in scoring this season with 36 points on eight goals and 28 assists. He has played in 145 consecutive games and boasts a career rating of plus-78, including a plus-22 mark so far this season. Gilroy was one of Sports Illustrated s Faces in the Crowd on Jan. 26 and was the subject of a New York Times feature by George Vecsey. MR. WILSON Sophomore Colin Wilson leads all Hockey East players in points with 55 on 17 goals and 38 assists. He ranks second nationally in points per game (1.31) and is fourth in assists per game (0.90). With his game-winning goal in the Hockey East semifinal, Wilson become the first Terrier to tally 50 points in a season since Chris Drury. Wilson s 38 assists are the most by a Terrier in a single season since Bob Lachance also recorded 38 in the season. One more assist would mark the highest assist total by a Terrier since Shawn McEachern posted 48 in Wilson tallied seven goals and 18 assists during BU s 17-game unbeaten streak. The 2008 Hockey East Rookie of the Year, Wilson was selected seventh overall in last year s NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators. Opposing teams have scored just three powerplay goal against BU in their last 34 chances. TERRIERS HOIST BEANPOT FOR 29TH TIME Powered by three short-handed goals, Boston University captured the 2009 Beanpot - its 29th title in the 57-year history of the tournament - with a 5-2 win over third-ranked Northeastern on Feb. 9 at the TD Banknorth Garden. Sophomore Colin Wilson scored a goal and added two assists in the title game, while classmate Nick Bonino scored his third goal of the tournament to claim MVP honors. Sophomore Kevin Shattenkirk and seniors Chris Higgins and Brandon Yip each tallied two assists in the victory. BU, which got a 23-save performance from freshman goaltender Kieran Millan, extended its winning streak against Northeastern in the Beanpot to a record 14 games. Senior Jason Lawrence broke a 2-2 tie midway through the second period with what ended up being his third career game-winning goal in the Beanpot and the second in as many weeks. A third-period slashing penalty on sophomore Joe Pereira ended up producing two short-handed goals, as freshman David Warsofsky and Wilson scored within 30 seconds of each other to seal the victory. Junior goaltender Brad Thiessen made 29 saves in a losing effort for the Huskies. Thiessen captured the Eberly Trophy for posting a tournament-best.925 save percentage. Northeastern, which was attempting to win the Beanpot for the first time since 1988, got goals from freshman Mike McLaughlin and sophomore Tyler McNeely. The Terriers never trailed in the contest, using a power-play tally from sophomore Colby Cohen at 16:09 of the first to open the scoring. Northeastern, however, potted a powerplay goal of its own when McLaughlin knocked in a rebound just 26 seconds left to play in the opening period to allow his team to head into the first intermission tied. Bonino gave BU the lead back with his first career short-handed tally just 27 seconds into the second, as the sophomore sent home a rebound from a shot by senior Brandon Yip that bounced off the caromed off the glass and right to Bonino s stick in the left slot. McNeely scored the Huskies final goal of the night at 10:01 of the second to make it a 2-2 affair, but Lawrence countered just 65 seconds with the game-winner off assists from senior Chris Higgins and Wilson.

POWERFUL POWER PLAY BU s power play is currently ranked second in the nation at 22.1 percent (55-of-249). Senior Jason Lawrence has 14 power-play goals, which ranks second in the nation (Jacques Lamoureux of Air Force finished with 15). The last time a Terrier had 14 power-play tallies in a season was in , with Jay Pandolfo (16) and Chris Drury (13) combining for 29. The Terriers tallied 20 power-play goals in a 10-game stretch from Jan Feb. 13, scoring at least one each contest during the stretch. FINE LINE BU s line of Nick Bonino, Brandon Yip and senior John McCarthy combined for 30 points in March, as each forward had 10 points in the month. The line combined for 12 points in an 8-2 road win over Providence on March 6. Bonino scored a career-best five points (2g, 3a), becoming the first Terrier in nearly nine years to record a five point game. Chris Kelleher tallied a goal and four assists against Merrimack on March 14, Yip recorded four points, including his first career hat trick that was capped with his 100th career point. He became the 76th Terrier to reach the 100-point plateau. McCarthy tallied a career-high three points on a goal and two assists. BONINO MAKES HEADLINES After scoring 14 points and earning Beanpot MVP honors in an undefeated month for the top-ranked Terriers, sophomore forward Nick Bonino was named Reebok Hockey East Player of the Month for February. Bonino recorded six goals, eight assists and a plus-nine rating in nine games, helping the team post a record of in the month. He scored at least one point in eight of the nine contests and had five multiple-point efforts. Bonino was involved in a busy day of dealing at the NHL trade deadline, as the forward s draft rights were traded by San Jose to Anaheim in a fourplayer deal. The Sharks traded Bonino, goaltender Timo Pielmeier and a conditional 2009 draft pick to Anaheim in exchange for defenseman Kent Huskins and left wing Travis Moen. For the season, Bonino ranks second on the Terriers in points with 48 on 17 goals and 31 assists. His plus-27 rating is tied for second in the nation. Bonino scored 20 points (8g, 12a) in the final 12 games of the regular season. HIGGINS MOVES UP THE CHARTS Senior Chris Higgins leads all active Hockey East players in career points with 132 on 49 goals and 83 assists. He ranks tied for 33rd all-time at BU in points, having passed Jacques Jobert and Tom O Regan with his four-point effort on Thursday. Higgins became the 75th Terrier to reach the 100-point mark with an assist in a 4-1 win over St. Lawrence on Nov. 29. EVERYBODY CONTRIBUTES BU is the only team in the country to have 11 players with 20 points or more this season. Denver finished with 10.

The Terriers entered the semester break this season with 11 wins for the first time since the campaign. QUICK HITS The Terriers offense is ranked first in the country, averaging 3.93 goals per game. The defense is allowing just 2.00 goals per contest, good for third. BU is the only school in the country to be ranked in the top five in both. BU has scored more than twice as many goals as its opponents in both the first (58-25) and third periods (60-27) this season. The Terriers are ranked first in the country in scoring margin (1.93). BU s combined special teams percentage of.555 also ranks first in the nation. The Terriers are when allowing three goals or fewer. BU has outshot its opponent in all but eight of its games this season, but has gone in those eight contests. The Terriers are 9-3 in one-goal games this season after going 4-7 in those contests a year ago. PARKER REACHES 800 Jack Parker became just the third Division I hockey coach to earn 800 career victories following the Terriers 3-1 road win over Merrimack on Jan. 30. Parker - the first hockey coach in NCAA history to win 800 games at one school - joined Ron Mason (924) and Jerry York (821) in the 800-win club. Matt Gilroy scored the game s first goal and added an assist. Colin Wilson earned two assists, while Brandon Yip and Colby Cohen each tallied a power-play goal. BU opened the scoring with consecutive goals just 72 seconds apart late in the first period and never lost the lead. BLUE LINE SCORING BOOST BU boasts three of the top five scoring defensemen in Hockey East: Matt Gilroy (36, 1st), Colby Cohen (31 points, 2nd), Kevin Shattenkirk (27, 4th). Freshman David Warsofsky is tied for eighth with 22 points. EVEN STRENGTH A STRENGTH BU has more than doubled up its opponents in even-strength play this season (102-46). A DIFFERENT DEFENSE BU has allowed 88 goals through 44 games, giving up more than two goals only 11 times. Last year, the Terriers let in 117 goals in their 40-game season and gave up three or more goals in 12 of their first 16 games. A GOOD WINTER FOR THE TERRIERS BU s women s basketball (19 straight wins) and men s ice hockey (17-game unbeaten streak) put together a combined 36-game undefeated streak before both runs came to an end on the weekend of March EQUAL-OPPORTUNITY OFFENSE The BU offense has spread out its chances this season, as eight players have recorded 90 shots or more, led by Brandon Yip with 127. Three of the eight players are defensemen. POSITIVE IMPACT Led by sophomore Kevin Shattenkirk, who leads the nation at plus-28, 21 of the 22 BU skaters that have played this season have a positive plus/minus rating. HOME RUN The Terriers went at home this season and are now in their last 31 contests at Agganis Arena. TOUGH TO BLANK The Terriers have gone 97 games without being shut out - the longest active streak in the country. BU was tied with UNH at 75 games before ending the Wildcats streak on Jan. 23 (5-0 win). BU has not been handed a shutout loss in 110 games (1-0, vs. BC, 12/2/06) - the longest such streak in the nation. It has been over five years since the Terriers have been shut out on the road (4-0, at BC, 3/12/04). SOPHOMORE SENSATIONS Sophomore Colin Wilson has a team-best 55 points on the year with 17 goals and 38 assists and classmate Nick Bonino is second with 48 points (17g, 31a). BALANCED ATTACK Nineteen different Terriers have scored at least one goal so far this season. Only Wisconsin (21), Connecticut (21), St. Cloud State (20) and North Dakota (20) spread out their scoring more. Senior Jason Lawrence has a team-high 25 goals - the most by a Terrier in a single season since Chris Drury put up 28 as a senior in Classmate Brandon Yip is second with 20, while sophomores Colin Wilson and Nick Bonino have 17 and 16, respectively. Senior Chris Higgins has added 14 and junior Zach Cohen has 12 to give BU six players with a dozen or more goals for the first time since the season. SCORING BY CLASS The seniors hold a lead over the sophomores in the race for scoring by class. Last season, BU ranked 41st with just 13.2 penalty minutes a game. Senior Brandon Yip has 116 penalty minutes this season, which is a new BU single-season record. Doug Friedman previously held the record at 112, set in the season. FIRST-HALF FLIP The Terriers went in the first half this season after posting a record before the semester break during the campaign. WEEKLY WARRIORS Five different Terriers have earned a combined eight Hockey East Reebok Player of the Week honors this season. Senior Jason Lawrence has won it three times, while sophomore Colin Wilson has earned the accolade twice. Sophomores Nick Bonino and Kevin Shattenkirk and freshman Kieran Millan have all won the award once. TWO TERRIERS PLAY AT WORLD JUNIORS Sophomores Colin Wilson and Kevin Shattenkirk served as alternate captains for the U.S. National Junior Team at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship, in Ottawa, Ont., on Dec Jan. 5. Team USA placed fifth in the tournament. Wilson, Shattenkirk and UNH s James van Riemsdyk were named Team USA s three best players of the tournament. Shattenkirk was the top scoring defenseman in the event and tied for eighth overall with nine points (1g, 8a), while Wilson recorded eight points (3g, 5a). Wilson played at Juniors for the second straight year, as the centerman scored seven points, including a tournament-best six goals, for the 2008 U.S. squad that finished fourth. Shattenkirk made his World Junior debut. BU was one of five schools (Michigan, Minnesota, UNH, Notre Dame) to have multiple players named to the team and Hockey East led all conferences with five players selected. OFF AND RUNNING The Terriers won six of their first seven games for the first time since winning 11 of their first 12 games during the campaign. DEFENSE MAKES OPENING STATEMENT For the first time in program history, BU allowed two or fewer goals in each of its first six games. OCTOBER REVERSAL Last season, BU went in October, resulting in its worst start since This year, the Terriers posted a record in October. NTDP REPRESENTATION Nine current BU players played for the Ann Arborbased USA Hockey National Team Development Program, marking the highest total of any school in the country. Minnesota has eight former NTDP players on its roster, while Michigan has six. Each of the last three captains of the U.S. National Under-18 Team (Brian Strait, Kevin Shattenkirk, David Warsofsky) is part of the Terriers defensive corps this season. FUTURE PROS Boston University has 13 NHL draftees on its roster this year, tying it with Michigan and North Dakota for the second most in the country. Minnesota has a nation-high 17 NHL picks. HONORING HIS BROTHER Senior Matt Gilroy is just the second Terrier to wear a number higher than 40 (Jason Tapp wore 83 for his sister from ). The North Bellmore, N.Y., native made a promise to his mother, Peggy Ann, that he would always wear 97 to honor his brother, Timmy, who died after a bike accident. Timmy wore 97 while playing hockey at the Mite level. His brother, Kevin, is his freshman teammate this season. PRESEASON ACCOLADES Senior defenseman Matt Gilroy, who earned first-team All-America honors last season, was named to the Inside College Hockey Preseason All-America Third Team and the All-College Hockey News Preseason Second Team. Sophomore forward Colin Wilson earned a spot on the INCH Preseason Second Team, while freshman defenseman David Warsofsky was selected to the INCH Preseason All- Rookie Team. WELCOME ABOARD The Terriers welcomed 10 freshmen to their roster this season, including six forwards, two defenseman and two goaltenders. The class was ranked third in the country by Inside College Hockey and half of the class has been drafted by an NHL team. The 10-man group represents eight different states and Canadian provinces. 88TH SEASON The Terriers are in their 88th season of intercollegiate play and currently hold a (.630). BU s 1,365 wins are only surpassed by Minnesota (1,594 wins - 88 seasons) and Michigan (1,477 wins - 87 seasons). The three geographically separated programs represent a trio of the top NCAA Division I college hockey conferences in the WCHA (Minnesota), CCHA (Michigan) and Hockey East (BU), and hold a combined 18 national titles between them. COACH PARKER NOTES 36th SEASON Jack Parker is now in his 36th season and holds an overall record of (.652). His 815 wins mark the most of any college hockey coach at the same institution. He ranks second among active coaches in wins and fourth in winning percentage. IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT Parker is (.547) all-time in 53 NCAA tournament games. His win total is tied for first all-time with Jerry York (29) and he holds the national record for Frozen Four appearances as a coach with 13. IN ALL TOURNAMENTS Parker has guided Terrier teams to an overall record of (.674) in 22 different tournaments over the years. BU has skated off with a tournament title 47 times during his career, including 21 Beanpots, two NCAA championships (1978 and 1995), six Hockey East titles (1986, 1991, 1994, 1995, 1997 and 2006) and four ECAC crowns (1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977). GOOD COMPANY Head coach Jack Parker ranks second among active coaches with 815 career victories, just six behind BC s Jerry York, who has 821.
