Last time out Ohio had its winning streak snapped heading into the all-star break. New York edged the Sheens at James M. Shuart Stadium. There was a heart breaking 2pt goal with just one minute remaining in the game. The Machine out-shot the Lizards but only won 12 of 32 faceoffs. New York collected 26 ground balls while the Machine collected only 16. Kyle Bernlohr and the Faceless men turned away 15 of 29 shots with Matt McMahon leading the pack with four caused turnovers. Tom Schreiber scored four times and had one assist, while Jake Bernhardt and Mark Cockerton scored hat tricks with six and four points respectively. Marcus Holman scored twice and assisted two and Peter Baum scored once and added an assist. The Machine s win-streak was snapped at five games, the longest by any team in ohio vs. Denver Last years MLL Championship Game featured these two teams in a nailbiter in Atlanta. The Machine couldn t have dreamt a more perfect first half. The Machine were winning nine goals to three with a little over eight minutes left in the half when the rain started to come down at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Peter Baum left the game with a leg injury in the second quarter after the weather delay. The Machine avenged him with a 5-0 run with goals from Tom Schreiber and Marcus Holman. The Machine s defense only gave up seven goals in the first half. The game appeared to be very lopsided, with the Outlaws outscoring the Sheens 11-1 in the first twenty minutes of second half. Denver led with 9:33 left in the 2016 MLL Season. The Machine had its back against the wall. Ohio scored three very quick goals to tie the game with 6:06 left on the clock. Eric Law was the hero with the championship winning goal. The game was won with a goal in the closing seconds. The final scored was Scotty Rodgers had 11 saves against 29 shots. Marcus Holman was the big scorer for the Machine with four goals and an assist. Tom Schreiber scored three times and had two assists. Kyle Harrison had a goal and three assists. Brian Karalunas had his first goal of the season on lacrosse s biggest stage. Denver leads the all time series between the two teams claiming seven out of ten games. Denver Notes The Denver Outlaws returned to first in MLL rankings after beating the Atlanta Blaze in the annual fourth of July game in Mile-High Stadium. The 24 goals marks the first 20-goal effort in MLL this season and tied the second most in Outlaw history. With the victory over the Blaze, the Outlaws resumed its spot at first place in MLL. Matt Kavanagh is the offensive powerhouse for Denver this season with a team leading 36 points off 21 goals and 15 assists. Attackman Michael Bocklet is not far behind with 33 points off 26 goals and seven assists. Jeremy Sieverts has been another notable player for the Outlaws this season with 11 assists. Faceoff man, Thomas Kelly has also been noteworthy for the Outlaws in 2017, Kelly is currently fourth in MLL standings winning 137-of-250-faceoffs giving him a faceoff percentage. Goaltender Jack Kelly has been astounding in net thus far in 2017 grasping an goals against average and a.546 save percentage.

2 all-stars shine Seven Ohio Machine players have been named to the 2017 MLL All-Star roster. This list includes: Marcus Holman, Tom Schreiber, Peter Baum, Jake Bernhardt, Brian Karalunas, Jackson Place and Kyle Bernlohr. These players all represented the Ohio Machine on Saturday, July 8 at Papa Murphy s Park in Sacramento, CA. Although all seven Sheen s participated in the game. No one shined brighter than Marcus Holman. Ohio s Captain led the game with six goals for Team Stars. Holman walked away from the game with the most goals and the most points scored by any other player in the game. Surely if Team Stars would ve pulled of the win Holman would ve been named MVP. Tom Schreiber scored twice in the game and had an assist. Kyle Bernlohr scrapped two saves in a game with the world s best. Peter Baum scored twice for the winners team Stripes. Schreiber s dominance Tom Schreiber has been a tyrant with the ball since returning five games ago. Schreiber was officially named NLL Rookie of the Year for his outstanding season with the Toronto Rock. Finishing the season with 94 points was a new Rock rookie record, Schreiber led the NLL in rookie scoring and also topped all Rock scorers. He also set the NLL rookie and Rock rookie record with 61 assists. His 33 goals were second best on the team. He s brought his excellent play to the field for the Machine as well. He s one of those players that makes everyone better around him. The Machine has not lost a game in 2017 when he s played.. The former first overall pick Tom Schireber in the 2014 MLL draft has over 100 Major League Lacrosse goals and over 200 points under his belt and looks to contiune his dominance. Sheens leading the way Marcus Holman has been the most consistent scorer in 2017 as he leads the league in points at 40 in front of his teammate Peter Baum who holds a strong tie at second with 36. Holman also leads MLL in goals with 28, trailed by the 27 goals from Ryan Brown of Charlotte. The best passer in the league is Tom Schreiber and he s tied in first place at 17 assists with Ned Crotty of Rochester, with Crotty playing three more games than Schreiber in Jake Bernhardt is also on the board for his 16 assists from Ohio has three players in the top of MLL points and five in the top 20, with Holman, Baum, Bernhardt, Mark Cockerton and Schreiber each making their mark on Players, coaches and fans alike the cockerton success story Mark Cockerton has been a huge part of the Machine s success story in He s scored 16 goals trailing only Marcus Holman for most goals for Ohio. His seven assists in 2017 breaks his single season record. 14 ground balls collected is just three short of what he had last year. He s on pace to have the biggest season of his career. Cockerton is living in his prime as a Major League player and has room to grow as one of the best to ever wear a Machine jersey. Cockerton doesn t do much off the ball. He s only suffered one penalty this season and it was a delay of game. Cockerton hardly ever turns the ball over. He never draws much attention to himself, but then he gets the ball and he automatically becomes a major threat to opposing teams. Mark Cockerton has a seven game streak where he records multiple points on offense. The Warrior Offensive Player Of The Week after the Atlanta game was Cockerton after he scored four goals and helped his team with three assists. When people look back on the first season at Fortress Obetz they ll remember seeing #41 diving and hitting the golden goal in overtime. Goaltenders everywhere gameplan around Cockerton, realizing his ability to light up a scoreboard. Probable Starters Attack 6 Connor Cannizzaro 41 Mark Cockerton Midfield 15 Peter Baum 3 Jake Bernhardt 23 Dominique Alexander 26 Tom Schreiber Defense 11 Matt McMahon 12 Steven Waldeck 17 Jackson Place goalie 35 Kyle Bernlohr Faceless Men hold at 10 The Machine have been outstanding when playing man-down as New York went 0 for 5 in the last matchup. The penalty killing by the Machine is on a different level compared to the rest of it s competitors with the Sheens have killing percentage of its penalties thus far this season. The Faceless Men lead by almost ten percent with the league average at percent. Kyle Bernlohr has been outstanding in the net with a goals-against-average. The Ohio Machine have the two best goalies in the league according to MLL statistic standing with Scott Rodgers at goals-against and Bernlohr at 10.90, combined the two goaltenders have lead the Machine to seven wins. However Bernlohr holds a slight edge over Rodgers in save percentage with Ruthless Power play The Machine have the best team on the penalty kill, but what is even more impressive is its powerplay. Ohio has scored on percent of its man-up opportunities in With the league average sitting at only 26.78, MLL opponents are struggling to keep the Machine off the board when a man-down, with the Sheens harboring offensive fire powerhouses like Marcus Holman, Peter Baum and Tom Schreiber. Connor Cannizzarro has been dominating goalies this year during power plays after only playing in 3 games this year. usa, usa, usa US Lacrosse announced its 59-Man roster who will try out for the U.S. Lacrosse Team July Among those 29 selected are five current Ohio Machine standouts; Jackson Place, Greg Puskuldjian, Tom Schreiber, Jake Bernhardt and Marcus Holman will compete for a spot on team USA. Marcus Holman is the only returning Machine member who has competed in international play with team USA in 2014, but Tom Schreiber 2016 MLL MVP and 2017 NLL Rookie of the year is sure to standout amoungst his competition. Bernhardt is another player who will be quickly noticed during his tryout. After some post season reflection, Bernhardt took to the gym and began to train himself in the most elite way possible. Jackson Place and Greg Puskuldjian will be competing for the first time to be a part of team USA and the two 2016 MLL All Stars are sure to make a big impact on the tryout.
