The Griffs will play at Bentley with games scheduled for Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. OFFENSE FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS 4 During the month of December, the Griffs offense was at its best, scoring 25 goals in just four games. 4 The 6.25 goals per game are the second-most in any month since the program moved to Division I. 4 The highlight for the Canisius offense was scoring nine goals against Bentley, the most for the Griffs since Canisius and Colgate also combined for 13 goals in the Highest Scoring Months Month GPG March December October Griffs 7-6 victory on Dec. 20, the most in a Canisius game since Jan. 8, The Griffs have scored at least four goals in four-straight games for the first time since the season. Canisius has also netted at least four goals in nine of its last 12 games. 4 Canisius has scored at least five goals in three-consecutive contests for the first time since the campaign. 4 The Griffs currently lead all Atlantic Hockey teams and rank 12th nationally with a 3.40 scoring offense this season. NO LEAD IS SAFE 4 Another common theme in Canisius games during the month of December was a struggle for teams to close out games. 4 During the month, the team leading with five minutes remaining was just Canisius led Bentley 4-3 before losing 5-4 and led Robert Morris 5-3 before a 5-5 draw. The Griffs also rallied from a 6-4 deficit to defeat Colgate in overtime, 7-6. The only lead that was safe was Canisius 9-3 advantage over Bentley. LET S GO STREAKING! 4 Senior defender Carl Hudson and junior Cory Conacher have led the Canisius attack as both players have tallied a point in a career-best eight-straight games. 4 Their streaks are the longest by a Griff since Chris Duggan finished the season by tallying a point in 15-straight games. 4 Hudson s run is the longest by a Canisius defender in the program s Division I history. Daryl Pierce held the previous standard by registering a point in six-straight games from January 11 to January 31, Hudson has also netted a goal in a career-best four-straight games. 4 Sophomore Scott Moser (four games) and freshman Torrey Lindsay (three games) also have active personal-best streaks. GRIFFS FINISH NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE STRONG 4 Canisius wrapped up its non-conference play in its last two games, tying CHA member and future Atlantic Hockey rival Robert Morris and defeating ECAC foe Colgate. 4 The Griffs win against Colgate marked the program s second-ever victory against an ECAC team. Canisius is now all-time against the conference, including a mark during the last two seasons. 4 Canisius also defeated Ferris State earlier in the season for their second all-time victory against a CCHA team. 4 The Griffs and Bentley are the only two Atlantic Hockey schools to defeat a team in two other conferences this season.

The Griffin is a mythical creature of supposed gigantic size that has the head, forelegs and wings of an eagle and the hindquarters, tail and ears of a lion. They are well known for their speed, ability to fly and having eyes like an eagle as well as the strength and courage of a lion. Griffins have been known for centuries as symbols of strength and vigilance, have been called The Hounds of Zeus in Greek mythology and are said to have mastery of both the land and sky. They are thought to be from India, where the natives of the land made their talons and claws into drinking cups because the talon of a Griffin was said to detect poison in a liquid. Griffins would find gold in the mountains and line their nests with it and as a result, were forced to become great guardians of the nests to keep the hunters away. GRIFFS EARN FIRST SWEEP VERSUS MERCYHURST 4 The Griffs two wins against Mercyhurst was a historic first for the Canisius College hockey program, marking the first time that the Griffs swept a weekend series from their rivals. 4 Canisius has played Mercyhurst more than any other school in program s history. The sweep was the first for the Griffs in the 60-game, 21-year series. 4 The Griffs also won consecutive games for the first time against the Lakers since Dec. 2, 1996 and Jan. 19, Canisius needed to play Mercyhurst 39 times at the Division I level before winning consecutive games in the rivalry. DUO SCORES FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL 4 Freshmen Ben Parker and Preston Shupe scored their first collegiate goals in a win over AIC. 4 Shupe leads all Canisius freshmen on the team with 13 points, two goals and 11 assists. 4 He is currently tied for first among Atlantic Hockey rookies with his 13 points. Shupe also ranks 23rd in the country among freshmen with 0.65 points per game. 4 The point was the second in Parker s career. The defenseman also added an assist in his second career game against Ferris State. OFFENSIVE OUTBURST 4Canisius got out a lot of frustration in a 9-3 victory over Bentley on Dec. 5. 4The Griffs dominating victory not only ended the team s three-game losing streak but also ended Bentley s hold over Canisius. The Falcons had won 7-of-8 meetings in the last two seasons. 4The nine goals for Canisius are tied for the second most in the program s Division I history and the most since a 9-2 win over Bentley on Nov. 2, Junior Cory Conacher tied school records with five points and four assists in the victory to lead the Canisius offense. 4In total, seven Griffs scored a goal in the win, while 13 players registered a point. ZUKE ADDS ANOTHER OPTION 4 Junior Matt Zuke is making his move back to forward a successful one. 4 Zuke, who started his freshman season as a forward but played the next season and a half as a defender, netted a goal in three-straight games from Dec. 4 to Dec The three goals in his last four games are two more scores than Zuke had in his first 55 career contests. KOSTUCH REGAINS ROOKIE FORM IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER 4 After a slow start to the season, Dave Kostuch quickly diminished any talk of a sophomore slump during the months of November and December. 4 The Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Year, Kostuch opened the season by recording only one assist in five October games. However, the sophomore has responded by netting seven goals and adding three assists in the last 13 games in November and December. GRIFFS RECEIVE FIRST NATIONAL VOTE 4 Following Canisius split against CCHA foe Ferris State, Canisius earned a vote in the USCHO.com/ CBS College Sports Division I poll. 4 The vote was the first for the Griffs in the program s history.
