NEW FACES: On June, 7 the Islanders acquired forward Jordan Eberle from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Ryan Strome. Eberle, 7, is entering his eighth NHL season. BENCH BOSSES: Doug Weight was named interim head coach of the New York Islanders on January 7, 7, and became the 9th Head Coach in Islanders history. The Islanders went 4--4 in 4 games under Weight. On April the interim tag was removed. Weight promoted Greg Cronin to associate coach and named Kelly Buchberger, Luke Richardson, Scott Gomez and Fred Brathwaite to his coaching staff over the summer. Weight, Cronin, Buchberger and Richardson will coach from the benches ingame. Weight is one of 4 NHL coaches who will make their opening night head-coach debuts this week. STRONG FINISH: The Islanders finished the 6-7 on a six game winning-streak, just one point shy of a playoff spot. Mathew Barzal,, made his NHL debut last season before being sent down to juniors (Seattle, WHL) after two games. Anthony Beauvillier,, made his NHL debut and recorded 4 points (nine goals, 5 assists) in 66 games during his rookie season last year with NYI. Josh Ho-Sang,, also made his NHL debut in 6-7. He scored points (four goals, six assists) in games with up with the Islanders. Beauvillier, who turned on June 8 th is the youngest player on the roster. He is 3 days younger than Barzal. BACK-TO-BACKS: The Islanders will play 6 sets of back-to-backs this season. The home opener vs. Buffalo will be the back end of their first set.
