1 Seattle Thunderbirds Host Coaching Seminar for Coaches Ice Centre, Kent, WA. December 20, 2012 KVHA s Hockey Director Danny Lorenz and 23 of KVHA s coaches were guests of the Seattle Thunderbirds coaching staff at the December 18 th Seattle Thunderbirds hockey game with the Tri-Cities Americans at ShoWare Center. T-Birds Assistant Coach Darren Rumble conducted a pre-game coaching seminar for the group. Following the seminar, the KVHA coaches enjoyed a superb buffet dinner on the second floor concourse and enjoyed the game from a T-Bird s suite. Coach Darren Rumble presented strategies and tactics of fore-checking, D-zone coverage, face off, power play, neutral zone fore-checking and other aspects of play. Rumble showed video clips of T-Bird game situations where the various strategies and tactics were employed. KVHA s Danny Lorenz said, The session was great, particularly for our newer coaches who may not be as familiar with the strategies and tactics of the games as are some of our veteran coaches. I thought it was wonderful and I appreciate the Thunderbirds hosting our group of coaches. Thank you to Coach Darren Rumble and the Seattle Thunderbirds. Go Birds! December 15, 2012 The KVHA Squirt Tornadoes hosted the SJHA Bulldogs on home ice Saturday and simply overpowered the Bulldogs, winning their ninth regular-season game by an impressive score of 7-0! s Squirt Tornadoes have earned five shutouts this season in league games most of them occurring on home ice which puts special meaning to the saying, Not in my house! They have conceded only 1 goal since Thanksgiving and an unimaginable six goals all season, leaving them in first place overall in NPSHL league play. And, they ve amassed this amazing record with 2 different goalies. The team is enjoying a great year and so are the parents! Keep up the good teamwork, Tornadoes! Period 1 - The Tornadoes took full advantage of home ice and didn t waste any time to take the lead by scoring on a pair of goals from Steven Rosenquist (#5) - the first was unassisted; the second a long shot from the blue line, assisted by Steven Bautista (#11). Although the Tornadoes got a minor penalty during the period, their extraordinary defensive skills allowed them to prevent the Bulldogs from scoring and hold this lead to end the first. Period 2 - With a flurry of activity, the second period opened the same way the first period played - with several remarkable shots on goal. Eventually one would make it in when Steven Bautista (#11) scored, getting the assist from Tyler Sherwood (#2). Although the

2 Bulldogs battled hard, they couldn t generate enough offense to keep pace with the Tornadoes. Period 3 - The Tornadoes continued the scoring into the final period when Caleb Chaloner (#6) scored on an assist from Steven Rosenquist (#5). This would extend their lead to four unanswered goals. Only a few minutes later, Maxwell Mudge (#15) added to the score with his own pair of goals - the first assisted by Quinton Gessner (#10); the second assisted by Steven Bautista (#11) & Sean Smith (#14). The play-making moves continued throughout the period with a heated battle for the puck. While the Tornadoes showed their strong wills to succeed, the Bulldogs seemed overwhelmed. With just seconds remaining in the final period, Michael Geddes (#7) scored his first goal of the season (and on his birthday no less) on an assist from Quinton Gessner (#10) to end the game. Great offensive performance, Michael! Summary - The Tornadoes are enjoying a magical season and are working so well as a team. During this match, they put together their three best periods of the season so far and dominated their opponent in every aspect of the game. The Tornadoes outshot Bulldogs and were physically dominant winning the majority of the puck battles. In another stellar performance, the Tornadoes took the eventual win by a final score of 7 to 0. Goalie Cameron Steinocher (#19) put on the armor and turned away several close shots to earn this remarkable shutout. Although it seemed more of a lopsided affair, the Bulldogs showed great spirit and tenaciousness for the game! Congratulations to both teams on a very exciting and entertaining game! Next up, the Tornadoes will have a holiday break but will face the SJHA Blades at Lynnwood Ice Arena for an evening thriller on Saturday, January 5th. Good luck, Tornadoes! The True Meaning of Winning the Cup:

8 "We were the first expansion team to win a Cup, which pissed off a lot of the old-school guys. Hell, we didn t care. We were having fun and changing the game at the same time. It was a different era. People would say, Oh, those Flyers just fought their way to the Stanley Cup That s B.S. We didn t fight our way to the Cup; we just got sick and tired of being pushed around and decided that we weren t going to take any more crap from anybody. We just made up our minds that we weren t going to be intimidated. And as soon as we did, things changed for us in a hurry. We earned some respect around the league, and teams started to take us seriously. Intimidation went both ways, though. You don t think going into Boston to play the Big Bad Bruins wasn t tough? I will never forget sitting in the penalty box and having Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito skate by and say, Hey asshole, the boys are going to get you tonight You don t think that was intimidating?
