1 THE BOSTON BRUINS WEEK AHEAD MARCH 18 MARCH 25 THIS WEEK S NEWS, NOTES AND NUMBERS: HOME SWEET HOME: Saturday s contest against the Maple Leafs concludes the Bruins final multi-game road trip of the season. Following the game, the Bruins will play their next three games in the friendly confines of the TD Garden. Tuesday night will see the Bruins welcome the red-hot New Jersey Devils to Boston (7:00 p.m., TV: NESN, RADIO: ). The Devils are in their last ten games and since starting the season The Bruins have won both previous contests against New Jersey this season, 4-1 on October 16 in New Jersey and 3-0 on November 15 in Boston. After the tilt with New Jersey, the Bruins will welcome the Montreal Canadiens, to Boston (7:00 p.m., TV: NESN, RADIO: ). The Habs are currently three points back of the Bruins in the Northeast with the Bruins holding a game in hand. The B s have gone against the Habs this season, with the lone win coming 8-6 on February 9 at the Garden. That meeting produced 14 goals, 6 fights and 182 combined penalty minutes. Following the Canadiens, the Bruins will square off with another Original Six rival, the New York Rangers, at the TD Garden (1:00 p.m., TV: NESN, RADIO: ). The Rangers currently sit in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference with 78 points. The Rangers have four 20-goal scorers in Ryan Callahan (21), Brandon Dubinsky (20), Marian Gaborik (20) and Brian Boyle (20). This season, the Bruins have gone against the Rangers, and the last time they played was a 3-2 B s win way back on November 17. MAGIC NUMBERS: If Boston does not gain another point in their last 11 games, they will finish the season with 88 points. All other teams would take a wins tiebreaker if they win their remaining games, so the magic number will be one point more than their maximum possible points. The magic number is reduced by any combination of Boston points gained and points lost by an individual opponent. They currently lead the Northeast Division with 88 points, three clear of second place Montreal with the Bruins holding a game in hand over their rivals. After Saturday s contest against the Maple Leafs, the Bruins will have a three-game homestand with games against the Devils, Canadiens and Rangers. 2 HONORING A BROADCASTING LEGEND: The B s will pay tribute to Bruins legendary radio personality Bob Wilson on Saturday, March 26 during the Bruins/Rangers game at the TD Garden. At 11:30 a.m., the Bruins will dedicate their home radio broadcast booth to Wilson by renaming it the "Bob Wilson Radio Booth." The Bruins will also install a silver microphone encased in a black and gold frame on the TD Garden s level 9 façade beneath the home radio broadcast booth, which will be permanently displayed. Wilson recently celebrated his 82 nd birthday on Wednesday, March 9. CUTS FOR A CAUSE: Shawn Thornton and 14 of his teammates will be shaving their heads for charity on Thursday, April 7 as part of the 4 th annual Cuts for a Cause event. THE STAT OF THE WEEK, COURTESY OF THE BRUINS WEEK AHEAD STAT MACHINE: The Bruins have gone to overtime in four of their last six games (1-0-3) after having their previous 24 straight games decided in regulation. That was their longest stretch of 60-minute games since a 24-game span from Nov. 28, 2008-Jan. 17, AND COUNTING After Thursday s capacity crowd at the Garden, the Bruins have now sold out 63 straight games (regular season and postseason, does not include Winter Classic at Fenway or 2010 Premiere Game in Prague). The Bruins sold out every regular and postseason game during the 2010 calendar year, the first time the organization has done so since the 1972 calendar year. FIGHT CLUB: The Bruins are currently third in the NHL in fights with 66 this season. They did not get in any fights this past week, but this upcoming week might be a different story. The Devils, Canadiens and Rangers have combined to fight the Bruins 13 times this season. Of those 13, 6 came in the 8-6 win over Montreal on February 9. In that game, Tim Thomas, David Krejci, Andrew Ference, Shawn Thornton, Johnny Boychuk and Gregory Campbell all dropped the gloves. The Rangers bring two players with at least 10 fights this season Brandon Prust (15) and Sean Avery (10). The Bruins also have two players with at least 10 fights, as Shawn Thornton has 14 and Adam McQuaid has 12. TOP LINE: In the 13 games since a 6-3 win at the New York Islanders on February 17, the Bruins top line of Milan Lucic, David Krejci and Nathan Horton has been pacing the B s offense. Since the start of that game, the line has combined for 16-27=43 totals. Of the 35 points, Krejci has 4-13=17 totals, Lucic has 6-9=15 totals, and Horton has 6-5=11 totals. The latest report was sent on March 15 and featured P-Bruins goaltender Anton Khudobin and Kingston Frontenacs (OHL) forward Ryan Spooner. The next will be sent April 1. The parade begins at the Broadway 'T' Station and ends on Dorchester Avenue at Andrew Square, South Boston. While following along the parade route, Blades and the Ice Girls will be tossing out black and gold beads to fans.
