But the best move for his career was when the Penguins dealt him away. Since Ducks general manager Bob Murray acquired the defenseman for a 2014 fifth-round draft pick on Feb. 6, Lovejoy has managed to work himself into a semi-permanent spot on the blue line due to his solid all-around play. "I've loved everything about being a Duck since I've been here," Lovejoy said. "I've been given a chance to not only play but be effective and get a lot of minutes. It's really been amazing for my career and fun to be a part of." Lovejoy, 29, had been scratched often in Pittsburgh as he fell down the depth chart with several talented defense prospects ready to make the jump to the NHL. The Penguins need to clear a spot and the New Hampshire native was the odd man out. Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau originally saw Lovejoy as a depth piece to fill in occasionally in case of injuries to their six defensemen. "Same as other guys, you give them an opportunity and you build up their confidence a little bit," Boudreau said. "I'm sure when we got him, we were thinking of an upgraded seventh. "But then again, you start thinking and he's the seventh on Pittsburgh one of the best teams in the National Hockey League. You're thinking he must be pretty good."

Boudreau said it was he and assistant Bob Woods who were impressed with Lovejoy as an opponent over the past few years, whether in the NHL or in the minors. "We liked him in Wilkes-Barre," Boudreau said. "And we liked him when he did get a chance to play in Pittsburgh. As coaches, we focused on other guys that were in the lineup but he never seen to make any grade 'A' mistakes. "Bob (Murray) did a really good acquiring him and he's been everything and more than we've asked." Lovejoy readily points to one thing that is making him succeed. "I think that the biggest thing for me is confidence," he said. "I found when I arrived here that the coaching staff, particularly Bob Woods, said play your game. You're going to make mistakes and you're going to go out the next shift even if you do make mistakes. "And that was something I wasn't accustomed to in my previous career. At any time when I would screw up or make a mistake, I would be punished with ice time." HOLLAND SENT DOWN Young center Peter Holland has been scratched often and wasn't going to be in the mix so the Ducks reassigned him to their minor-league team in Norfolk (Va.). Holland has three goals and two assists in 21 games with the Ducks but inconsistent efforts have kept him from grabbing the second-line center spot that has been a season-long hole in the Ducks' lineup. The center position was going to become further crowded with Nick Bonino soon to return from a lower-body injury after adding Matthew Lombardi at the trade deadline. Holland hasn't played since April 5 at home against Dallas. "Right now it's just a lot of bodies," Boudreau said. "And there are certain teams that we need certain kinds of things in." Orange County Register: LOADED: Boston Bruins Bruins game against Senators postponed because of bombings at Boston Marathon By Kevin Paul Dupont Globe Staff / April 15, 2013 Meanwhile, in the press room, many of the reporters who arrived in the building before 10 a.m. for the Bruins day-of-game workout continued to work on stories and prepare for the planned 7:05 puck drop. A couple of miles away, in and around the Marathon finish line, chaos was the order of the day but time stood still inside the game-day time capsule of Causeway Street. While the likes of Dougie Hamilton and Anton Khudobin filed out of the building, newcomer Jaromir Jagr was just arriving, a somewhat quizzical look on his face as he eyed the exiting players. His teammates already had been told to go home, but Jagr wouldn t be told the same, reportedly by general manager Peter Chiarelli, until he walked through the big black swinging doors to the dressing room. Meanwhile, some 60 feet down the hallway, support staff could be seen loading Senators equipment bags onto skids that would transport them to the team bus on the opposite side of the building s third floor. At approximately 5:12 p.m., the Ottawa team bus slowly pulled away, the day s light growing dimmer on the chilly, somber afternoon. We fully support the NHL s decision to postpone tonight s game, the Senators team account tweeted. Another official Ottawa team tweet noted, The thoughts and prayers of the entire Ottawa Senators organization are with those people affected by today s tragic events in Boston. No Bruins were made available to the small press corps that remained in the building in the minutes before and after the players were told to go home. A member of the media relations staff shooed members of the press away from the dressing room door and later closed two doors in the adjacent hallway, blocking reporters views of players as they arrived and departed. Goaltender Tuukka Rask was willing to accommodate a reporter s request to talk until the member of the media staff abruptly cut him off. Neely s statement was issued just prior to 6, and at 6:03 p.m., Matt Chmura, the club s director of media relations, informed the few stragglers in the press room, So, that s it, we re closing up here at 6:30. Pedestrian traffic in and around the Garden was very light as 6:30 approached. Garden security members checked commuters bags as they made their way to trains headed north and west from North Station. A reporter nodded in near silence as one security member peeked inside his three bags and politely said, I doubt you have any bombs in there. Boston Globe LOADED: Boston Bruins By about 4:30 Monday afternoon, Bruins players were reporting to Causeway Street, prepared as usual for a night s work against the Ottawa Senators at TD Garden. But within minutes, many were headed back out of the Garden, informed by management once inside the dressing room that the game had been called off, just one of the many consequences of the fatal bombing earlier in the afternoon at the finish of the Boston Marathon. The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the Bruins organization are with the city of Boston and all those affected by today s tragedy, team president Cam Neely said in a release issued just before 6 p.m. No makeup date for the game was announced. It is possible, though not likely, that the game won t be rescheduled, provided the outcome has no consequence on the NHL s final standings. However, given how tight the standings are, the odds are in favor of a makeup, possibly Sunday, April 28. Both clubs are off that day, each of them scheduled to wrap up their seasons that weekend. Earlier Monday afternoon, some minutes before the players began to straggle in, there was no immediate sign that the game would be postponed. A visitor to the Garden box office at 4 p.m., a little more than an hour after the blasts, was told that the game was still on as scheduled. Bruins Patrice Bergeron ready to play again after latest concussion By Kevin Paul Dupont Globe Staff / April 15, 2013 His head clear again after his fourth concussion, his skating up to speed, veteran Bruins pivot Patrice Bergeron was ready to return to action Monday night in what was scheduled to be a Bruins-Senators game at TD Garden. The final decision s not mine, Bergeron said after skating in the morning on a line that he centered with Milan Lucic on his left and Tyler Seguin on his right. But I feel I can play tonight. The decision didn t have to be made, as the game was postponed because of the horrifying scene some two miles away in which two bombs were detonated near the finish line of the Boston Marathon Monday afternoon, leaving at least three people dead and scores injured. Bergeron is expected back at practice Tuesday morning in Wilmington, and his return is now likely to be Wednesday night when the Sabres visit Causeway Street. Just making sure we re all on the same page, said coach Claude Julien, noting that club doctors and trainers still had to sign off on Bergeron s

return. He s been feeling a lot better for the last few days, seems to be doing extremely well. But when you ve been through what Patrice has been through, we re always going to make sure we re extra safe with him. Bergeron, 27, sustained his latest concussion April 2, the Senators last visit to the Hub, midway through the second period when he took a whack from Colin Greening. He underwent a neuropsych exam three days later with Concord-based Dr. Robert Cantu and was encouraged that the concussion was not nearly as serious, or debilitating, as the hit he took from Flyer defenseman Randy Jones in October Bergeron began skating and working out off the ice last week and now looks as if he ll be back after missing only 6½ games. I feel good and back to normal that s the positive, said Bergeron, adding that overall he has been encouraged because, the first concussion was the biggest, and all have gone down from there. Greening s hit was not a targeted pop to Bergeron's head, but instead a typical, and seemingly harmless, collision in which Greening s shoulder caught Bergeron below the left ear, around the neck area that is not protected by the helmet. It wasn t a big hit, but it was the right spot, said Bergeron. It sort of caught me at that lucky spot, where it doesn t need a big force. Marchand skating Brad Marchand, concussed Wednesday night in New Jersey when popped by defenseman Anton Volchenkov, also skated in the morning workout. He also skated on his own Sunday. The two days of workouts left Marchand encouraged. I m feeling pretty good, he said. I felt like myself out there. NHL protocol calls for players to sit out at least a week before they re-enter the lineup. The next stage for Marchand will be contact drills, not likely to occur until the end of this week. If all were to check out OK, he might be able to suit up for 2-3 games next week. Rest for Hamilton Rookie blue liner Doug Hamilton, who sat out the two previous games (coach s decision), was slated to return against the Senators. Julien confirmed the move when noting that veteran Andrew Ference was to get the night off... Carl Soderberg is expected to land in Boston Tuesday and should be on the ice, in his No. 34 Black-and-Gold sweater, during the Wednesday morning skate. Just how soon he joins the lineup remains open to interpretation. I ll wait and see when he gets here, Julien said of the 6- foot-3-inch Swedish center. Boston Globe LOADED: Boston Bruins Tonight's Bruins game canceled Robert Burgess April 15, :05 PM The National Hockey League has postponed tonight s Boston Bruins game against the Ottawa Senators at TD Garden. The game was scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. The game will be rescheduled, according to the league. The Bruins have seven regular-season games remaining before the playoffs. Their next game is scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Buffalo Sabres. Here is the notice from the Bruins front office: The game between the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins scheduled for tonight at TD Garden has been postponed, the National Hockey League announced today. The game will be rescheduled. The date and time will be announced at a later date. The National Hockey League wishes to express its sympathy to all affected by the tragic events that took place in Boston earlier this afternoon. Here is the statement from Bruins President Cam Neely: After consultation with City, State and NHL officials we collectively made the decision to postpone tonight's game. Public safety personnel from the City and State are still gathering information regarding today's events and it is vital they have all resources available for their investigation. The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the Bruins organization are with the city of Boston and all those affected by today's tragedy. Boston Globe LOADED: Boston Bruins Game No. 43: Bruins vs. Senators Kevin Paul Dupont, Globe Staff April 15, :28 PM Hello from TD Bank Garden, where it appears Patrice Bergeron will return to the Boston lineup this evening when the Bruins face the Senators on Causeway Street. Bergeron was sidelined two weeks ago with his fourth career concussion when hit by Ottawa's Colin Greening in what appeared to be a routine goalmouth collision. ''The final decision's not mine,'' Bergeron said after skating this morning on a line that he centered with Milan Lucic on his left and Tyler Seguin on his right. ''But I feel I can play tonight.'' Coach Claude Julien said the decision, as always, will be made in concert with Bergeron, club management, coaches, trainers and doctors. In other words: game time decision. The bet here: 90 percent chance he suits up. ''When you have been through what Patrice has been through,'' noted Julien, ''you always make sure you are extra safe with him.'' Andrew Ference gets the night off. Doug Hamilton, given the last two games to rest, moves into Ference's blue line spot. Brad Marchand, concussed Wednesday night in Newark, skated for a second day in a row and reported that he felt well after the morning skate. He has yet to be cleared for contact. Look for Tuukka Rask to get tonight's start. Rask took the loss Saturday night in Raleigh and is now Puck drop: 7:05 p.m. EST Record: Bruins, ; Senators, TV/radio info: NESN (Jack Edwards, Andy Brickley and Naoko Funayama; 98.5 The Sports Hub (Dave Goucher, Bob Beers) Projected lineup: Gregoy Campbell-David Krejci-Jaromir Jagr Milan Lucic-Patrice Bergeron-Tyler Seguin Danny Paille-Chris Kelly-Nathan Horton Kaspars Daugavins-Rich Peverley-Shawn Thornton Zdeno Chara-Johnny Boychuk Dennis Seidenberg-Dougie Hamilton Adam McQuaid-Matt Bartkowski Tuukka Rask Anton Khudobin Healthy scratches: Aaron Johnson (D); Wade Redden (D); Andrew Ference (D); Jay Pandolfo (F); Carl Soderberg(F), Jordan Caron (F) Injured: Brad Marchand (concussion). Story lines: The Bruins are trying to reestablish their game after back-toback losses to the Islanders and Canes, only the second time this season they have lost two straight in regulation...one point tonight will clinch a sixth straight trip to the playoffs for the Bruins...Boston is a measley 3-for-30 on the power play over the last 15 games. The PK unit is 29-for-36 (80.5 percent) over the same 15 games...the Bruins have been outshot in each

of the last six games, for a combined deficit...ference is out (coach's decision) for the first time this season. He logged over 20 minutes of time on ice in each of the last five games...referees: Brad Meier and Chris Rooney; Linesemen: Michael Cormier and Brad Kovachik. Boston Globe LOADED: Boston Bruins Bruins forward Milan Lucic struggling to find game By Fluto Shinzawa Globe Staff / April 14, 2013 Saturday night at PNC Arena, Milan Lucic originally was credited with the Bruins first-period goal. Minutes later, the goal was switched to Matt Bartkowski. In the third period, after video review confirmed the puck had glanced off the holder of Lucic s skate blade and into the net, the goal was given back to the left wing. The power forward is grinding through one of the most challenging stretches of his NHL career. The goal was only Lucic s sixth strike. It snapped a nine-game goal-scoring drought, and was just his second goal in the last 26 games. For me, with the way the year s kind of gone, it s kind of nice to get a fortunate bounce there, Lucic said after the 4-2 loss to Carolina. Let s hope we can move past what s happened so far this season and move things in the right direction. Hopefully get my game going here with seven games left heading into the playoffs. When Lucic is at his best, like during a three-helper night March 16 against Washington, he plays with confidence. Lucic is a no-nonsense player who causes opponents to tremble because of his size, straight-line speed, and punishing play. But Lucic, known as one of the most fearsome fighters in the league, is fighting himself. He is playing with little confidence. Against Carolina, in the defensive and neutral zones, Lucic turned pucks over. He was flat-footed when defensemen hit him with outlet passes. In the offensive zone, Lucic looked to pass first to linemates Gregory Campbell and Jaromir Jagr instead of creating his own offense. It indicated a player second-guessing himself, baffled with how his touch has gone missing. There haven t been too many bounces where I can have something like that to hopefully build my confidence off of, Lucic said. When you look at it a lot of times, usually it s a goal like that that kind of gets things jumpstarted again. Lucic is one of the Bruins difference-makers when he s clicking. His thumps change a game s pace. When Lucic, David Krejci, and Nathan Horton are rolling, they create the team s most dynamic offensive line. It s up to Lucic to scratch through this stretch. For the last two games, Lucic hasn t been on either power-play unit. Campbell and Jordan Caron have been better net-front options. He still has to be better, coach Claude Julien said of Lucic. We know he s still a better player. He can t be satisfied with the goal. He can t be satisfied with his game right now. We ve got to push ourselves. He s not the only one. We ve got a lot of guys right now that still have the ability to be better. They ve got to push themselves and we re going to push them. Lucic can look to one of his replacements as an example. Saturday night, for the fourth straight game, Campbell centered the No. 2 line. He played a critical role in setting up Lucic s goal. First, because of the line s heavy forecheck, Campbell picked off a Tim Gleason outlet pass. Campbell and Jagr then engaged in some thorough wall work to initiate the cycle. When the Hurricanes collapsed down low, they left Bartkowski uncovered at the left point. Jagr spotted the defenseman and gave him the puck. It was a good forecheck, Campbell said. We were able to retrieve the puck. Jags is so good at protecting it and finding guys. We noticed that the weak-side defenseman had been open as part of our pre-scout. He was able to find Bart, and Looch is really good in front of the net. That s where we need to score more goals, in front of the net. With Patrice Bergeron unavailable for the last six games, Campbell has assumed additional responsibilities and has delivered on all fronts. He had two assists in last Monday s 6-2 win over Carolina. Two nights later, Campbell popped in a pair in the 5-4 win over New Jersey. Thursday night during a power play in a 2-1 loss to the Islanders, Campbell snapped a cross-crease pass to Tyler Seguin, who responded with a quick strike. In contrast to Lucic, Campbell is confident. When Bergeron returns, Campbell most likely will return to his fourth-line position. But Campbell was effective as a top-six fill-in because he didn t alter his hard-hat approach. If anything, he s gained confidence and made plays, Julien said. He s with some good players. He s taking the time to make those plays. He s continued to forecheck. He s continued to get his nose dirty in front of the net. We ve talked with him for a long time about the power play. He s one of those guys who ll stand in front, take the shots, tip those pucks, and battle in there. It s been a good sequence for him with Bergy s injury. He s really done a great job. We hope that he carries that confidence moving forward. If we can get everybody else going, he ll be a real good player where he plays a lot of times. Boston Globe LOADED: Boston Bruins Bergeron on verge of return Tuesday, April 16, 2013 Steve Conroy, Bruins Notebook Before last night s game was postponed, it looked like Patrice Bergeron was going to make his return, though he planned to meet again with the medical and coaching staffs to make a final decision. Bergeron has not played since suffering the fourth concussion of his career on April 2. I m cleared. Even for Carolina (on Saturday) I was cleared, Bergeron said after yesterday s morning skate. We ve got to talk to the doctors but also especially with (coach Claude Julien). It s not up to me, obviously. But I m feeling good, so I feel like I m ready, but we ll see. Bergeron said that he hasn t experienced concussion symptoms since the day after he took an inadvertent elbow to the side of the head from Ottawa s Colin Greening. I m feeling good, Bergeron said. It s almost two weeks now and it was only the day after that I felt it, so it s been a while that I ve felt good and felt like myself, so I feel like I ve taken my time. But like I ve said, it s not up to me and they ve always done a good job of taking care of me and I really appreciate it. But if it was up to me, I feel ready. Bergeron has been skating for a handful of days. Obviously I want to get out there, he said. I feel good, I feel confident. And I don t feel that cautious, either. We re taking the time and there s a reason for that, so that I m not hesitant. And I feel good. Julien said that the team is going to be as careful as it can be. Just making sure we re all on the same page here, Julien said of consulting the medical staff again before Bergeron gets the final go-ahead. He s been feeling a lot better for the last few days and seems to be doing extremely well. But when you ve been through what Patrice has been through, we re going to be extra safe with him. And if it takes a little extra time, we re willing to do that. Marchand skates Brad Marchand, who suffered what was termed a mild concussion April 10 when he took an elbow to the head from New Jersey defenseman Anton Volchenkov, skated for the second straight day (he got back on the ice for the first time on the Bruins off day Sunday), and so far, so good, though he said yesterday morning that he was not going to play last night.

While recovery from a concussion can come in fits and starts, Marchand feels he was a bit lucky. After taking the elbow, Marchand first steadied himself and then went down on the ice. I was a little worried right away, once I got hit. My head was pounding and I felt a little different, a little foggy, Marchand said. I remember everything, which is good. It could have been a lot worse. I m just trying to make sure every day I feel a little bit better and hopefully I can get back soon. Volchenkov received a four-game suspension for the hit. Marchand, who has found himself in trouble with the NHL s department of player safety a few times, admitted that nobody likes it when it happens to them. But he wasn t going excoriate Volchenkov for the hit. I saw it the other day for the first time, but that stuff happens, Marchand said. I ve been on both sides of it. The game happens quickly and the league took care of it. I m just going to put it behind me. Marchand said that he suffered a concussion when he was 16, but it wasn t very bad. So far at least, it looks like this one isn t too bad, either. I had a headache or two the next day or so, the next couple of days. I felt a little off, Marchand said. The last few days I ve just been trying to make sure I get lots of rest and get my head to feel a bit better. I felt good (yesterday) and hopefully I ll continue to make steps forward. The next step would be for him to take some contact, perhaps in today s practice in Wilmington. I hope so. I m not really sure, Marchand said. I have to speak with the trainers and doctors and coaches and everything and see what they say about it. Rest of the story Rookie defenseman Dougie Hamilton would have been expected to return to the lineup last night after being a healthy scratch the previous two games. Julien has pointed out that Hamilton has played more hockey than anyone, from the Canada-Russia series in August to his junior season and the world junior championships, and that the move was more for mental and physical rest than anything. Hamilton said it was good to get a different perspective while watching the game with assistant coach Doug Jarvis from the pressbox, but he was ready to play again. I think it s definitely a lot different from up there, Hamilton said yesterday morning. It s a lot slower and everything looks easy. It s just different. But going on the ice today, I was feeling refreshed and kind of eager to play. That s a good feeling. He feels the rest was good for him. Playing so much, it feels like the end of the year, which it is, Hamilton said. But I think to get a rest, mentally most of all, and to get away from playing and now to come back, it feels like junior a little bit, when you get a week off and you go back and play on the weekend. Hopefully I didn t get too rusty over that couple of days. But I feel good and I m pretty happy. Julien said Hamilton accepted the scratches in the spirit with which they were given. I don t think there s any issue with his reaction. He s a hundred percent on board with us, Julien said. I don t think I ve ever done anything to hurt a player more than I ve done to help a player. He knows that. He needs the rest and those two games gave him (four) days to rest. He s a guy that s played the most on our team this year with all the stuff he s been through before he got here, and then the compressed schedule. This is doing the right thing for the right player and for the right moment. No issues there. He ll benefit from it, one way or another.... Julien said he ll be rotating defensemen in and out of the lineup, and he said yesterday morning that Andrew Ference was going to sit last night. Boston Herald LOADED: Boston Bruins Bruins-Sens game postponed Tuesday, April 16, 2013 Stephen Harris There was no way a hockey game could have been played in Boston last night. The Bruins and the National Hockey League, in consulation with federal, state and city law enforcement officials, made the decision to postpone the Bruins scheduled game against the Ottawa Senators in the wake of the deadly explosions at the Boston Marathon finish. B s players immediately left the arena shortly after the game was called a bit before 5 p.m. Late in the afternoon of one of the most heartbreaking days in Boston history, Bruins president Cam Neely issued a quick release: After consultation with City, State and NHL officials we collectively made the decision to postpone tonight s game. Public safety personnel from the city and state are still gathering information regarding today s events and it is vital they have all resources available for their investigation. The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the Bruins organization are with the city of Boston and all those affected by today s tragedy. The reasons the game couldn t be played were obvious: First, if one crowded sports event could be attacked, there was concern a second like an NHL game could also be targeted. Second, police, EMTs and other emergency workers were not available for the Garden. And third, to carry on with a game after yesterday s horror devastated so many would have been unconscionable. Shortly before what would have been gametime last night, police were stopping every person entering North Station and checking bags and outer coats. Imagine trying to clear roughly 18,000 people going into the B s game. The NHL office also put out a release: The National Hockey League wishes to express its sympathy to all affected by the tragic events that took place in Boston earlier this afternoon. There was no immediate word on when the game will be played, but unofficially, Sunday, April 28 seems like a plausible date. This week obviously doesn t work. The Bruins have games scheduled for tomorrow, Friday and Sunday, while the Senators play tonight, Thursday and Saturday. Next week the Bruins already have an April 25 game that was added to their schedule the Feb. 9 contest vs. Tampa Bay that was snowed out. They ll also play the 23rd and 27th. Ottawa plays the 22nd, 25th and 27th. So it appears the already-weary Bruins may have to close the regular season with four games in six days and then head into the playoffs a couple of days later. After what happened on Boylston Street, however, that doesn t seem too important. Boston Herald LOADED: Boston Bruins Bruins game postponed, Celtics game canceled Monday, April 15, 2013 Steve Conroy, Steve Bulpett The tragic events that marred today s Boston Marathon have affected both the Bruins and the Celtics and their scheduled home games tonight and tomorrow. The NHL and the NBA have canceled those games. The Bruins were scheduled to host the Ottawa Senators tonight. That game has been postponed with no makeup date yet established. After consultation with City, State and NHL officials we collectively made the decision to postpone tonight s game, Bruins president Cam Neely said in a statement. Public safety personnel from the City and State are still gathering information regarding today s events and it is vital they have all

resources available for their investigation. The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the Bruins organization are with the city of Boston and all those affected by today s tragedy. The Celtics, who were scheduled to host the Indiana Pacers tomorrow night, have had that game canceled by the NBA, according to the league. The Celtics instead will close their season with a game in Toronto Wednesday night before taking on the New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs. Boston Herald LOADED: Boston Bruins NHL calls off tonight's Bruins-Senators game Monday, April 15, 2013 Steve Conroy The National Hockey League has officially announced the postponement of the game tonight between the Bruins and Senators due to the explosions that rocked Back Bay during today's Boston Marathon. No makeup date has been established. After consultation with City, State and NHL officials we collectively made the decision to postpone tonight's game," Bruins president Cam Neely said in a statement. "Public safety personnel from the City and State are still gathering information regarding today's events and it is vital they have all resources available for their investigation. The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the Bruins organization are with the city of Boston and all those affected by today's tragedy. The NHL also put out a statement. "The National Hockey League wishes to express its sympathy to all affected by the tragic events that took pace in Boston earlier this afternoon," the league said. Before the offical announcement, Bruins and Senators players, who were just arriving at the Garden, were told to go home. Bruins defenseman Anderrew Ference tweeted, "Game is off. Our best to everyone affected. Please be safe." Boston Herald LOADED: Boston Bruins B's Patrice Bergeron on return: 'I feel ready' Monday, April 15, 2013 Steve Conroy Unless the Bruins' medical staff nixes it some time today, it appears that Patrice Bergeron will make his return against the Ottawa Senators tonight. It was against the Senators on April 2 that Bergeron suffered the fourth concussion of his career. In this morning's skate, Bergeron centered a line with Milan Lucic on the left and Tyler Seguin on the right. I'm cleared. Even for Carolina I was cleared, said Bergeron. We've got to talk to the doctors but also especially with (coach Claude Julien). It's not up to me, obviously. But I'm feeling good, so I feel like I'm ready, but we'll see. Bergeron said that he hasn't experienced concussion symptoms since the day after he took an inadvertent elbow to the side of the head from Ottawa's Colin Greening. I'm feeling good, said Bergeron. It's almost two weeks now and it was only the day after that I felt it, so it's been a while that I've felt good and felt like myself, so I feel like I've taken my time. But like I've said, it's not up to me and they've always done a good job of taking care of me and I really appreciate it. But if it was up to me, I feel ready. Bergeron has been skating now for a handful of days. Obviously I want to get out there, he said. I feel good, I feel confident. And I don't feel that cautious, either. We're taking the time and there's a reason for that, so that I'm not hesitant. And I feel good. Julien said that the team is going to be as careful as it can be. Just making sure we're all on the same page here, said Julien of consulting the medical staff again before he gets the final go-ahead. He's been feeling a lot better for the last few days and seems to be doing extremely well. But when you've been through what Patrice has been through, we're going to be extra safe with him. And if it takes a little extra time, we're willing to do that.... Meanwhile, Brad Marchand participated in the morning skate, though he will not be play tonight, he said. Marchand suffered what was termed a mild concussion on April 10 in New Jersey. He began skating on Sunday.... Julien said that rookie Dougie Hamilton, a healthy scratch the last two games, will be back in the lineup. Julien said that he'll be rotating guys in and out of the lineup and tonight will be Andrew Ference's turn to take a seat.... The other lines in the skate were Gregory Campbell-David Krejci-Jaromir Jagr, Daniel Paille-Chris Kelly-Nathan Horton and Kaspars Daugavins-Rich Peverley-Shawn Thornton. Thornton and Horton also flip-flopped during the line rushes.... Tuukka Rask was the first goalie off the ice, indicating he'll be back in net tonight. Boston Herald LOADED: Buffalo Sabres Move to wing gives Ennis a needed lift By Mike Harrington on April 16, :37 AM updated April 16, 2013 at 12:37 AM When the season started, Tyler Ennis was the Buffalo Sabres No. 2 center and there were point-a-game visions of him dancing in the heads of the team s most optimistic fans. After all, Ennis between Marcus Foligno and Drew Stafford was perhaps the NHL s top line for the final month of last season. The hope when the lockout ended was that they could simply pick up where they left off. Hasn t happened. Stafford, the subject of numerous rumors at the trade deadline, and Foligno, a former healthy scratch now being tried at center, have just five goals apiece. And Ennis is out of the middle entirely, sent to left wing with Cody Hodgson and Thomas Vanek. Ennis endured a minus-4 game last week in Winnipeg and Saturday s 1-0 win over Philadelphia was his 11th straight game without a goal. He finally snapped his drought on a tap-in during Sunday s 3-1 win over Tampa Bay. Ennis has played wing before and is comfortable there, but the 23-year-old was supposed to be making big strides on becoming an elite center. Nevertheless, the numbers made it hard for him to argue interim coach Ron Rolston s move. I understood, Ennis said. Sometimes you need to make some changes to spark some offense. I m comfortable in both spots. I like the wing too. I ve played it the last few years. It s just about working hard all over the ice, just trying to win battles. When it s not going well, you ve just got to simplify. Ennis has 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points in 42 games. But he s gone from a plus-11 last year to a minus-9 this year as his defensive game has suffered dramatically. The Winnipeg game was obviously a low point, filled with a combination of bad luck and bad backchecking. Minus-4 was pretty embarrassing, he said. I thought I worked hard in that game and some things just didn t go right. Those things are going to happen unfortunately and it was a nightmare. Minus-4. It s something that

can t happen and it did. It s something you have to look at, bounce back from and do everything you can to not let it happen again. He s actually lately been doing some real good things, attacking the net and using his speed the last couple games, said Rolston. It s just mostly for him getting his feet moving because when he s skating he s one of the toughest guys in the league to handle. He uses his edges, darts in and out. He s just got to every night concentate on making things happen out there. Rolston wouldn t commit Sunday to keeping Ennis on the wing for the final five games of the season. The team was off Monday and will return to practice today, with another tour at center feasible. Ennis said he s not concerned about playing for next season, as the Sabres continue to play for this one. That s not something you want to focus on. You want to focus on getting points as a team. You can worry on those things in the summer time. Right now it s all about getting wins as a team. We did a good job battling [against Tampa Bay]. Whether they want to admit it or not, however, the back-to-back losses last week against Winnipeg and Montreal basically ended this club s playoff hopes. According to sportsclubstats.com, the Sabres entered Monday with just a 29.5 percent chance of making the playoffs if they won their last five games of the season. Dropping just one point sinks the chances under 10 percent and dropping two points sinks them under 3 percent. The Sabres haven t won more than three in a row in nearly 13 months, so it s pretty apparent where this is all heading. So their words of idle hope aside, this set of seven games has really become a referendum on several players looking toward next season. After Sunday s game, most players held on to the working-to-the-playoffs theme. Prior to the game, Rolston provided the necessary reality and perspective. They understand where the team is at but also where they re at individually and what they have on the line in terms of proving their spots, Rolston said. Especially for our young players for next year, just building that consistency, playing well and finishing strong. It s a key motivation for them. Buffalo News LOADED: Buffalo Sabres NHL postpones Bruins-Sens game in wake of Marathon explosion; Sabres scheduled to leave for Boston tomorrow, play on Wednesday April 15, :10 PM By Mike Harrington 6 p.m. update: A statement issued by Bruins president Cam Neely: "After consultation with City, State and NHL officials we collectively made the decision to postpone tonight's game. Public safety personnel from the City and State are still gathering information regarding today's events and it is vital they have all resources available for their investigation. The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the Bruins organization are with the city of Boston and all those affected by today's tragedy. Buffalo News LOADED: Buffalo Sabres Enroth giving Sabres good dilemma in goal April 15, :40 PM By Mike Harrington The Sabres are off today and will return to practice Tuesday morning before heading to Boston for Wednesday night's game against the Bruins. Interim coach Ron Rolston has a very interesting decision on his hands when it comes to his goaltending. Jhonas Enroth pitched a shutout Saturday against the Flyers and came back Sunday to backstop the 3-1 win over Tampa Bay. Enroth is red-hot right now in his last five starts with a 1.37 goalsagainst average and.958 save percentage. The Sabres basically have to win their last five games to have any shot of the playoffs, so how do you take him out now? But that, of course, has heavy implications for Ryan Miller. THREE straight starts for someone other than Miller when he's been healthy? Starting Enroth Sunday was no message for Miller going forward. It was simply a reward for Saturday's shutout. Starting Enroth Wednesday.... Well, that could be construed as something else entirely. It's not like Miller has been bad of late at all (3-2, 2.54,.924 in April). And he's been good against the Bruins both this year (2-2, 2.53,.930) and in his career (24-8-7, 2.53,.919). Enroth hasn't played Boston this year and his career numbers against the B's are ugly (0-3-2, 4.00,.888). Interesting call coming. What's your call? Buffalo News LOADED: Buffalo Sabres Laviolette staying in Philly but Tambellini out as GM in Edmonton In the wake of the explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon course, the NHL has announced the postponement of tonight's game between the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins at TD Garden. There is no word on a makeup date for the game. "The National Hockey League wishes to express its sympathy to all affected by the tragic events that took place in Boston earlier this afternoon," the league said in its official release. The Sabres are scheduled to leave for Boston on a 3 p.m. flight Tuesday afternoon and are slated to play the Bruins Wednesday night at 7. The Sabres are scheduled to stay at their normal Boston hotel, the Ritz-Carlton by the Boston Common. It is about 1 3/4 miles from the explosion site on Boylston Street. The situation is obviously a very fluid one, and the Sabres say it's too soon to tell if there will be any change in their travel schedule or whether the game will go on Wednesday. The Bruins have a very tight schedule the rest of the season because they already had a game postponed by snow earlier this year against Tampa Bay re-scheduled for April 25 at the Garden. They also host Pittsburgh on Friday night and Florida on Sunday afternoon, and play road games April 23 at Philadelphia and April 27 at Washington. April 15, :11 PM By Mike Harrington The Flyers looked like Dead Team Skating when they were here Saturday afternoon and I know I wasn't the only one thinking Lindy Ruff might have a chance at a small measure of revenge against Peter Laviolette for 2006 by taking his job behind the Flyers' bench next season. From the sounds of things coming out of Montreal today, it looks like that's not going to happen. As reported by Sam Carchidi in the Philadelphia Inquirer, General Manager Paul Holmgren said today that injuries are at the root of the Flyers' evils and "I haven t even thought along those lines" when asked directly if he was considering a coaching change. The Flyers, of course, went to the Stanley Cup final under Laviolette in 2010 and were and the last two years. But they floundered this year and discussion of the coach grew in full force. Those are called standards.
